Me too. I had a grumpy start today too. Monday I weighed 3lbs less then today. Who knows why. I am almost at my goal weight and it is just teasing me right now. I stay within calories range; I pass up the junk food; I ran 32 miles this week and still was up three. I should have been at goal this week but every week it does this. No explanation. Sigh :( I do weigh every day to keep my self accountable and on track. I shouldn't but Ive done it for years. Then I have days like this.... :( have a great day today is my rest day.

Good morning! I think I will try the walk run plan the nest time I start training for a 5K I don't think I will ever be able to run a mile without walking part of it but I think I can run 1 minute sprints.

there are also people who intentionally use the run-walk-run method for their races. i did that (run 30 seconds, walk 30 seconds) for a 10 k earlier this month and was 9 minutes faster than the same race when i ran the whole way a year ago. and next week i am going to do this, walking and running for a half marathon.

5 mile run (run-walk-run, really, but to me it is a run since it is faster than when i ran) this morning. very different running the flat city streets of queens compared to my country roads in washington state.

impossible to track nutrition for this trip - with restaurants and take out (vegan) food, i have no idea how to track. just trying to make healthy choices along the way.

I did the walk run at my Y. I had intended to just walk it but the excitement of the event had me doing some short runs. I doubt that I will ever be able to run 3 miles but I can definitly do a walk run combo. I also did a women's 5K with the local running club and I was not the only one who walked parts of it. Go for it! It is fun!

Lorilee,

I participated in one run/walk, and there were a LOT of walkers (including me) at the event. Even if there aren't at yours, don't let that stop you! You're doing something great for not only yourself but the Y (or whatever organization the run/walk is benefiting)! I would go, even without a partner (which is how I usually do it).

Don't worry about what your hubby said about this! Do what's going to be good for YOU!

I am considering joining a 5K walk/run at the Y next month. I showed the brochure to my hubby and didn't get the support I was looking for. He said I'll feel self conscious to be one of the few walking. I told him there will be other walkers, I'm pretty sure. He said, yeah, the people with walkers (!) He said I'd be better off finding a partner to walk with. (while writing this I just thought that maybe I should ask him to walk with me!) I do have one friend I walk with on occasion. Maybe I'll ask her, but she usually works on Saturdays.

Do most people run at these events? I've never been to one before.

Today has been a great day so far.

I did a 3 mile walk in my neighborhood, then enjoyed a nice breakfast of eggs, salsa and skim milk. Afterwards, it was walking to the gym for my spin and yoga classes...and I was able to stay in tree pose for the ENTIRE TIME without wobbling during that part of the class! That definitely makes me happy, since I don't have the best sense of balance, which is something I'm working on.

Walked home after yoga and had a good lunch, and will be off to do grocery shopping in a wee bit. Also heard from my parents who are headed home to Upstate New York today from a week near Glacier National Park in Montana, which was nice.

One of the reasons I weigh every day is for an awareness of the regular ups and downs. That way I'm not surprised or crushed (most days anyway!) when I get the 2 lb bounce out of nowhere. I had a pretty good day yesterday. Only escaped work for one walking break, but that's better than none. Stopped at the last neighborhood farmers market of the season and got berries, a cantaloupe, peppers and eggplant. Went out to dinner and, get this: I stopped eating when I was full, even though the food was really good and I left about half to go to waste. (I don't know why I didn't tell them to box it.) emoticon Have a great weekend everyone!

Peri, don't worry about daily bounces on the weight. Who knows what causes it. My father used to tell me that my liver would expand or contract based on what it was doing, showing up on the scale. I don't know if that's true, but it's as good an explanation as any. It's like watching the stock market minute to minute. It will drive you nuts, and concern over it can cause you to make inappropriate responses. I can pay a financial advisor to worry about the stock market for me, but I have to see the scale in proportion all by myself.

Grumpy start to the day when my weekly weigh in showed the exact same number despite keeping my calories just above BMR and keeping up the exercise. This is why I don't weigh daily. I hope haven't hit another plateau after the nearly month long one in August. I just want to lose another few lbs. After my usual hour walk, I did 35 minutes of step aerobics and tomorrow will get in my long beach walk. Weekends are usually my best times for increased activity and keeping the calories down, so I have that at least. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Since I eat a little heavier than usual on both Fri and Sun, I typically eat light on Saturday. Today I'm going to run, then have a salad bar at Jason's Deli. I'm training for a Thanksgiving 10K so the goal today is to run 5 miles.

Good luck on the 5K! (I wish I could run again, but my knee won't let me. I'll be with you in spirit. Guess I could walk a 5K though. Hm, maybe I'll do that one day.)

Peri, don't despair. You saw this coming, now it has, it could get "worse" after your birthday party, you'll feel awful, and you'll learn from the experience. If you aren't happy with the outcome of this weekend, think a lot about it and make it part of your maintenance education. (P.S. Sometimes when I was stuck at a kid event, I was able to sneak off and take a walk around the soccer field, outside the pool, back and forth along the sidelines, etc. I've even gone for a walk sometimes while my dye job is setting at the hairdresser's. Not THAT is a sight to see.)

God knows I'm always learning from my mistakes. I just read a blog from a year and a half ago, in which I gloated to myself about how my secret was consistency and a stable metabolism--as long as I didn't go down the slippery slope of eating whatever I pleased and "celebrating" too much. So what has happened? I started eating sloppily and "celebrating" too much after moving to Florida, and bingo, I gained 5 pounds. (I should read my old blogs more often.)

Good Morning!
Good luck on the race! I totally understand about the shoes.
Good luck on the weight training! I too am changing my weight training program. I had been getting tired of doing 2 sets of 15 at relatively high weights. I am now aiming for one set of 12 at the highest weight I can lift. I have cut 20 minutes off my weight lifting time. 70 minutes is not as wearing as 90.

Hang in the Peri, it isn't always salt that contributes to the weight gain....sometimes the carbs will cause some retention of water too, especially if you are involved in a ST program. It has to do with your glycogen stores and when you are back to your "normal" eating, the water will dissapate and weight will come back down.

Today is off to a frustrating start. Went to the Y at 6:30 to get in a quick run before taking my daughter to soccer at 8:00, and it turns out that they don't open until 7:30. So, got up early for no reason and missed my exercise window for the day (have another daughter's swim meet and have to pick up my son at a birthday party later--ah, the joys of being a chauffeur).

Also frustrated by my weigh-in this morning. Yesterday I weighed in at 129.0, the lowest I've been in 8 years. It felt like the reward of the righteous--I've been eating well and exercising consistently all week. Last night we went to a potluck dinner, and I ate reasonably well. Kept my portions under control, had a brownie but only one, and probably ate 2000 or 2200 calories for the day. Over my allotment, but not by a whole lot. This morning the scale read 131.5--up 2.5 pounds! What?!! I don't get it. I didn't eat anything particularly salty, and it just doesn't seem fair that I would gain that much from the one day a week in which I'm not eating 1500 calories.

Tonight is my 40th birthday party, and I'm going to splurge, no doubt. Serving all my favorite foods and going to get a bit tipsy, too (which I do about twice a year). I know I'll pay for it tomorrow, but apparently I pay for even moderate excess, so... I know this sounds like all or nothing thinking, but the difference this time around is that I'm going to get right back on track the next day. Already have my long run and ST planned for tomorrow!

~Peri

Lost 65 pounds just in time for my 40th birthday. Now maintaining my weight loss, training for a half marathon and lifting weights seriously. Love my body and love my life. It was all worth it!

Good morning!
Good luck in the 5 K tomorrow!!

Good couple of days for me too. Weight training went well this week, I was improved in 90% of the program. Changed my focus from pure fitness to building muscle as I don't want to lose any more weight but would like to lose 2 % of body fat. On to step class today and a family birthday party.

Have a great weekend! Carol

Good morning - well it was a good couple of days off. Spent some money that I really didn't want to, but running shoes were a necessity (REALLY)! I had over 450 miles on my last pair and I was starting to to really feel it. I've run injury free except for a couple in black and blue nails and a couple that ingrew, but my heels and shins and hips were really starting to get SORE. I changed brand for the first time since I started running. Bought Saucony Progrid Omni 11 this time. They fit like a glove! I've been wearing Asics Kayanos, so tomorrow I will run in the old pair with some insoles, but I can't wait for my first full run in the new shoes!

This morning going to a breakfast for the Community Impact Leadership Team from church, then work from 1-10. Up early tomorrow for my 5K, then church, then REST!!!

Hope you all have a GREAT day!!!
