Closed at work last night - got out at tem pm and in bed 45 minutes later.....tried to get up at 5, but just laid ther another 7 minutes...didn't snooze though AND made it to the gym on the way home for a half hour of abs and a mile of repeats on the track. Nutrition is good and in line for the day too. Wish the calorie burn had been higher, but there are more days left in the week and tonight I'll hit the sack early - yoga and more repeats on the track tomorrow between work and lighting practice at church. Hopefully I'll keep it all in balance this week and have the energy to really kick up the fitness/calorie burn this weekend.

I had a streak going from August 8 and it lasted 15 days where i stayed in my calorie range. In that time i had lost 8 pounds on the scale. For the past 5 days i have been binge eating consuming double my calories per day and the scale is showing a gain of 4 pounds. I need to get off this merry go round. Today i got back on track and stayed in range. Praying for a good day tommorrow. I am happy that my wokrouts have been consistent 2 sessions a day cardio and strength training.

a good day yesterday, or at least as good as can be expected with rain and wind most of the day and several deadlines for work. made a delicious hot and sour soup with tofu for lunch, and roasted veggies with chickpeas and whole wheat pasta for dinner. starting to clean out the fridge (hence the roasted veggies), today may actually be the last dinner i cook before we get back to washington late next week. traditionally the neighbors invite us for dinner the last few nights, and i am off to stockholm on friday for my race saturday.

nell, are you sure about beans and rice being off the menu for diabetics? here is a link to the mayo clinic recipes for diabetics, which even has a rice and bean salad on it:

www.mayoclinic.com/health/diabetes-recipes
/RE00091

my DH was prediabetic (borderline high blood sugar) for about 20 years when we switched to a whole food vegan diet, and after 6 weeks his blood sugar was completely normal for the first time, which convinced him (an MD) to continue - he was highly skeptical when we started. you may also want to look at what neal barnard (a doctor) says about diabetes:

www.pcrm.org/shop/byNealBarnard/dr-barnard
s-program-for-reversing-diabetes

just to say, we are not vegan for philosophical reasons, but for health - and DH does manage to bend the rules at home; i bend them when we are invited out or at restaurants as necessary.

anyway, back to yesterday, despite the rain we managed to fit in two 3 mile walks, morning and evening, without getting too wet. hoping for a better one today (wed).

I'm on Day Four of my current streak, eating clean and exercising + nothing after dinner! I had kept up the whole foods but was letting some old trigger foods into the mix.
Happy to report I finally have a job interview, using my 20+ years of software quality engineering skills with my new medical knowledge ( A&P, medical terminology, etc) at a medical information technology company!!

Sometimes you just need to rest.

I have a hard time in the car too, so I keep the snacks where I can't reach them from the driver's seat. That way I have to actually stop and get up and walk around to the back to get them. It helps keep me awake.

Driving is the only time I indulge in caffeinated diet soft drinks.

And in a pinch I chew on these. They're bitter and nasty and therefore not something I'm likely to nibble on, except in order to stay awake:

It's tough, but a long long drive can be done without overindulging. It's taken me a lot of tries to figure out what works for me...

I am doing terrible!! Yesterday, I had a 6 hr car trip for work and I eat so much when I have to drive - helps me stay alert and awake. Then I had to eat lunch with colleague and cook dinner for family at night. I had already gained weight from vacation and when I got on the scale this morning, I was up 6 lbs since before my vacation. I still feel sluggish and unmotivated. Ugh!! I watched my calories today but no exercise -- I am way to tired.

Holly/Texas. Time Zone: CST; Don't do anything today you can't maintain for the rest of your life; Studies show a mere 11 minutes of weight training 3 times a week is enough to reduce your body fat and raise your metabolism.

@Nell As the commercials say, cholesterol comes from famiy as well as food. Sometimes you can do everything right and it will still be too high. You can try adjusting your diet and exercise, but don't feel like a failure if that doesn't fix everything.

@Nell

I second the suggestion for someone to look at your diet, but I'd recommend a registered dietitian, rather than a nutritionist. Isn't your son in that field? Maybe I'm confusing him with someone else...

The type of exercise you're doing might influence your cholesterol and triglycerides, too. I know you mostly learned to control your size by controlling your food (via old WW plan), but do you suppose you could investigate some strength or interval training? Just a thought. I know you're super busy with a lot of complicated things going on, so this suggestion may not be feasible.

As for me, I ate more than I probably should have this past weekend, but I'm reining it back in and getting ready to do my heavy lifting in my basement as soon as I'm done with this post.
(I'm following the New Rules of Lifting for Women www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_individ

I'm also finally starting to catch up on my sleep. Lately I've gotten exhausted awfully easily. And I think perimenopause is setting in because that Time of the Month was a week early in July and is now 27 days late!

Nell: Sometimes I don't think doctors know what to do when someone is *already* exercising and eating moderately. Maybe s/he can recommend a nutritionist (since doctors aren't actually required to be trained in nutrition). Is it possible that this cholesterol reading was a blip or mistake in the testing/reading?

Friends keep wining and dining us - so I ate half the breakfast I'd normally eat, aimed for a healthy lunch, and I've been active and busy and drinking my water. Not much else I can do, unless I want to be rude to our friends.

REally sore from the gym yesterday. Working 1-10 tonight and back at 7AM tomorrow till 4. Then to the gym again. Will do abs, maybe not strength and do a run instead. Meals are prepped for the next two days so nutrition should be good. Hope to see some movement on the scale this week. I'd love to be back below 140 by the end of Sept.

I went to the doc for my annual (if 3 mos late) physical. My LDL cholesterol is high for the first time ever. I'm not quite sure what to do. My hubby will not eat chicken or fish, and he's diabetic so beans and rice are out. I can't lose any more weight; my BMI is 17.8, and I have no idea what to do. My HDL is extremely high (97) but that's lower than it was last year. Let's see: no eggs, cheese, beef or pork for me; no beans, chicken or fish because of my husband. Hmm.

And I have so much going on right now with my husbands health, my mother's health, and a sick cat, that I just have no energy to put into figuring out my own problem.

Nell

Had a good day yesterday. Still a couple pounds over goal but down relative to the last few days. Today is DD's bday which will involve her choice of dinner and dessert. I'm being careful during the day but I will enjoy both dinner and dessert. Keeping up my exercise and making healthy choices as often as possible.

Slept slightly better last night, but still feel tired. I had an "aha!" moment this morning. I have an almost limitless fund of patience and persistence when dealing with our new kitten. I correct him gently time and time again until he gets it. Why can't I be that way with myself? Mentally berating myself for my shortcomings doesn't do me any good. Maybe if I just say, "No, don't do that!" and give myself a little time out a few thousand times I can learn just like Siegfried does.emoticon

Today I got up late.... so this means running late for my internship, and grabbing a poppyseed muffin on the go. Yesterday I weighed in at 161.4, today at 163.4. I am seriously thinking there is something wrong with my scale. Later today I have a BBQ I need to attend...

Yesterday was a completely off day for me. Eating was ok until dinner, but I knew that would happen since it was my mom's birthday and we went out. Actually I ate ok at Longhorn, except the bread. It was the birthday pie and ice cream. I know it's ok to eat that stuff when it's a special occasion but I was TOO full and slept horrible.

I got in some of my ST at about 11:30 (it was a long complicated day that included car troubles and a sick dog). We're camping and I'm commuting to work this week, so everything seems to be a challenge this week..that doesn't usually happen.

Good news is our rain is over and I think some evening kayaking is on the agenda after a dinner of yummy veggie soup from my partner's mom. And since my running and ST schedule is waaaaay off, I'll probably do ST again tonight.

Good morning, team!!!

I had a great vacation. I ate more than I should have, but I did walk at least 3 miles each day. I enjoyed it, and do not regret it, but it's back to business today.

Thanks to everyone for keeping this going while I was gone.

Wow, I just read OneKidsMom's blog that TinaJane pointed us to. So many words of no-nonsense wisdom, but my favorite takeaway is that by maintaining, I am saving my life one day at a time.

After Sunday's debacle, I needed some saving, and Monday came to my rescue. I had a good day with fitness (3.5-mile walk and yoga) and came in within my calorie range. Need to repeat yesterday's victory today and tomorrow and tomorrow....
