Unfortunately, I am no longer at my goal. I am struggling to hold my own. I have some unknown health issues which need resolving. It will probably continue to take some time, and then it will be necessary to gradually return to my former exercise routine. I am hopeful that once the underlying cause is found, I will begin to return closer to my goal weight.
The key now is to continue what I can and prevent escalation.

Teresa

Greetings all,

I started on SP in May, 2009 and reached my goal weight quickly. Over the past almost three years I have done things I never thought were possible, including running six half marathons, plus my first marathon on my 51st birthday last October.

I have made lasting SP friendships and have met many of my friends in person at local events and destination races. I will be having hosting SP guests from Nova Scotia and Louisiana next month.

As I got more comfortable on Spark, I tracked my food less and less. A week after my marathon I stated experiencing IT band issues. My exercise minutes dropped. I felt sorry for my self, so I ate more. The holidays only added to the consumption.

I woke up on 1/1/2012 at .2 lbs from my original Spark weight. Rather than setting 2012 resolutions, I decided to set daily resolutions that I would try to commit to for one day, then the next, then then next...

My simple daily goals consist of:
* Track everything I eat
* Focus on ranges for fat, protein and carbs
* Eat at least 6 freggies
* Drink 8 glasses of water
* Get at least 30 minutes of cycling, running or walking a day

I am happy to say that I have lost 11 lbs so far in 2012 and am back into my maintenance range for the first time in at least a year. It feels great and this is the perfect team to share it with.

Thanks for reading,

John

I am at the point where no occasion is for overeating. I'll make a favorite dinner tonite, but no snacks or drinking. No occasion is worth gaining weight over.

I gained 2/10th of a pound this week, but am still under my goal weight. I'm taking this as success since my once-in-a-lifetime dog died a week ago. It's been a tough week, but I'm proud of what I haven't gained. I hope everyone is well and keep on Spark'n.

I got used to eating less and my weight has reached equilibrium these last couple of years at 102-103 (BMI of 17.5). Which is fine with me. I know I'll ease up someday when I least expect it. You won't keep losing; you'll hit a weight where your intake matches your output. Personally I find it harder to gain than to lose: I could gain 20 easy. 3 or 4 is really hard because how on earth do you stop there??

The charts say I am "underweight", although if I were 16 the same weight would be "normal". I think they mean "average", and average is a lot higher than it used to be.

Hi everyone!
I seem to be doing alright, except I'm still losing and I don't want to. My BMI ids 19.6, but I don't want to lose anymore. I eat right and take vitamins, but I don't seem to get enough calories. I got used to eating less, and I just am not hungry. What have you all done to switch from losing to maintaining?

Yeah, that looks like I'm maintaining. The blip up to 168 was scary, but I managed to make it a blip and not the start of a trend.

I was down to 4.6 pounds below goal this morning. With my mother having to move again, I am under extreme stress and it's hard to eat when I am stressed. I need a little boredom to get my weight back up to goal.

3 months into maintenance and I am 6 pounds under goal. Would really like to stop the loss and gain some muscle so I added 225 calories to my daily budget. Delighted to be staying under goal but would like to gain a pound or two.

Had a blip up in mid-January, but I seem to have taken that back off. In 20-20 hindsight, I was exercising less and eating as much or more. I cut 200 calories from my diet, and now I'm past the cluster of free food that's hard to quantify correctly, so I *think* I'll be okay; but maybe I'd better join the Springiest Maintainer challenge just to be sure I pay attention.

This morning I was below the 3% under my goal. The stress of dealing with my mother is getting to me, and stress causes me to lose weight. Maybe I need to be bored for a few days. That'll fix it.

emoticonteam! I weighed myself yesterday and it looks like I am still bouncing up and down between 138-140 pounds. I know I don't always have perfect days where I am eating the way I should be, but it seems to me I am always consistant with my workouts! Go figure. I am continuing to work on it! Today is a new day! My goal was to get up, worship God, workout and continue to eat right the whole rest of the day! Amen!emoticonemoticon

I entered the maintenance challenge starting at the end of the month and then lost a couple of pounds (without intending to) - after being dead on for several weeks it was a surprise! Overall I have a bit of leeway now and that feels good.

I have been mostly in goal range for about 2 years now, though I have bumped up a little at times of stress.

I struggled for a while with finding what my goal range should be. My body seems to settle between 138 and 145, generally staying around 141-143 when I am doing what I need to in terms of nutrition, exercise, and making the effort to reduce stress.

So I am at the top of my goal range. Time to cut back some
and rebalance my eating and activity levels.

Got through my first month of "official" maintenance (finally reached "goal" in early December although I'd been in quasi-maintenance since June because of a crisis). 110 pounds down -- haven't weighed this little since junior high -- but so far, I think I'm doing ok.

Hope to keep it up in 2012!

Starting Weight: 260 lbs. (November 2010)
Quasi-Maintenance: 165 lbs. (June 2011)
Goal Weight: 150 lbs. (reached December 8, 2011)

Size 22W to Size 4

Currently maintaining within 5 lbs. (+ or -) of goal. I weigh daily, but also use a tape measure and the fit of my clothes to guage how well I'm doing.

This marks my 7th year of maintaining! I can hardly remember what it was like to be so overweight, but I can never take it for granted. Healthy eating and excercise have to become a way of life. I do struggle with excercise in the winter months when I have to give up my bike. I walk daily, but also like to use DVDs. There are lots of good dvds for weight training, but it is harder to find ones without weights for cardio days. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks bunches!

7 years maintaining!

just joined the team. i am within my goal range... i have a range (145-155) because, as we all know, fluctuation is a fact of life. i figured if i maintained here for a while (150 my original goal) i might be tempted to drop another 10lbs. i am happy where i am and everyone keeps telling me stop loosing so i will take the advice for a few months and just do my thing. although, my thing is my daily healthy eating and exercise routine. those will not change since i incorporated my favs into my lifestyle change. i do not know if i know how to just maintain. lol. kat

I entered the challenge to stay at my goal weight and then I weighed in at a pound less this week! LOL - I am doing well and beginning to develop a sense of how much to eat by eyeballing portions. I have been using my fist to help me visualize about what a cup is....

Anyway I am doing okay and i wish everyone a great week coming up!

I'm very new at maintenance - it will be two weeks tomorrow - but so far, so good. I am still tracking (not paying attention to portions is what got me in trouble before), and my goal is to become fitter this year and gain more muscle.

I am very happy at this weight. I can afford to lose more, but from previous experience I know that weight loss doesn't happen from where I want it to (thighs for me), but from places I don't need to lose from (clavicles, chest bones) after about this point until I reach a much smaller weight, and I'm reluctant to go there.

In maintenance since Dec 2011

Well, I'm on antibiotics for my "cold." But the weather warranted that I do a bit of careful roadwork this morning. No friggin' excuses! I'm still doing my strength training cautiously. I will be ready for my HM in February. I'm starting to feel hardcore...and liking it! I'm thinking about all the people who have influenced me in going on. Oh, and I'm at a new weight, 166.4. After maintaining +- 3 # at 170 for seven months, I've ventured into a lower weight with a lower BMI. I like it. I'm think it's that much less to carry on my HM adventure. Yep, it's a new year but the journey continues!

I seem to weigh more often while I am at maintenance then I did losing weight.... guess that is okay though - I have stayed close to goal. At first I fluctuated about 2 pounds but lately I stay within a pound..... I know I have to give myself breathing room and not get obsessed..... so you guys are now charged with keeping me sane! What a team!! Well done everyone!!
As of February 1st this year I will have maintained two years! I had a loose goal of 121, ended up as low as 113 (which my Dr. was very unhappy with -she wanted me at 147!!) and am currently 124! I am extremely fine boned, have RA and OR and she wanted extra weight on me to prevent bone loss. Well hauling around 198 lbs at my heaviest didn't prevent it, so I will let my body decide where it wants to be. I for sure enjoy being lighter on my feet and don't want to go back to where I was. I love exercise and can do more when I am in shape :)
Keep up the great work!

Kanoe, I've moved my goal weight down twice and find I like the lower weight. It doesn't take a whole lot more effort for me to maintain at 128 than it does to maintain at 139 or even 155. Best wishes for finding your true happy weight!

Nell and Barb, appreciate your discussion about maintenance being possible and worth it. I believe it, too, and Nell is living proof! I can give up that Big Mac forever, but I'm afraid from time to time I'm going to eat that whole sandwich. It might be on days I've run 6 miles or more, though. -Marsha

I was at goal and maintaining for three years but this year has been a hard one and I had to concentrate on other priorities, but I'm back with a vengeance this year.

My original goal of 175 was too high, but that just gave me a margin of safety to lose more while I figured out my final goal. As of today, 1/2/2012, I'm comfortable between 165 and 167. Call it a range of 163 to 169 to give me room to fluctuate; the entire range is below the "ideal weight" of 170 I picked for the Merriest Maintainer challenge. (When I picked it, I had yet to weigh that little.)

Right now I have 166 as the goal weight on my ticker, because I'm still more comfortable with a ticker showing 0.8 lbs. below goal than 0.2 lbs. over goal. Go figure.

Short answer, I'm maintaining in January 2012; but what "at goal" means is still a little fuzzy.

Ah yes, is it worth it? It's always the question, isn't it? I am a size 00 now (even though today's size 00 was a size 6 back when I first lost my weight) and in order to keep that size I have to give up a lot. I will probably never eat a Napolean or a Big Mac again as long as I live, much as I loved them. Or whipped cream. Or both halves of sandwich. It's the price I pay to stay at goal. For today it's worth it, but I have to make that decision every day. It's not like cutting my hair too short, which will grow back with no effort on my part. I can gain to see if I like it, but if I don't there is no guarantee I'll be able to muster the effort to lose it again. As much effort as maintaining takes, it's easier than losing it again.

Great addition, NellJones... and one more question beyond "can it be done"... "Is it worth it?" If you can say yes to that one, you're well on your way to long-term success!

Did anyone see the article in yesterday's New York Times Magazine about maintaining weight loss? Sure it's hard to maintain. I DO have to eat less than people at my weight who have never been overweight. My activity burns less than people who have never been overweight. But that doesn't mean I can't do it if I want. I also had to study harder than some people in school. There was always the guy who could skip every class and still ace the final. No way could I do that, but studying harder made up for it. Same with maintaining. The question shouldn't be "when will it be easy", but rather "can it be done?" And the answer is "YES!"

Awesome, team!! We have many successful long term maintainers. Congrats to all of you below who at goal. To the one or two who are almost at goal, you can do it!!

I'm within my current goal weight range, 124-129.9. This morning weighed 128.4. The lowest I have been in December is 126.2. I hope to go down one pound this month and one pound next month and to stay within the range 124-129 for 2012. I have said after I do that I'm going to lose my scale obsession. We'll see.

I reached my original goal of 145 on 8/14/2011
I set a new goal of 135, the doctor said I should be 136.5. I'm 5' 7".
I have maintained 136 to 139 for about 2 months.
I set 135 to 140 as my weight range.

Another at goal (actually below goal) year. Despite the press, it CAN be done. If I can do it, anyone can.

Nell

No one ever got up in the morning wishing she'd eaten more the night before.

Original Goal: 114. Current old lady goal: 106.

I gained 3 pounds over the holidays. So I am not presently at goal weight. Before January is over, however, I will be back at goal weight. I am an 8 year maintainer.

I reached my original goal in March, 2010, my body's final goal in August, 2010, and today am within 5 pounds of that final goal. So, YES! I am within range, and maintaining!

Day 45 of maintenance and am 2kg below goal. I am going to keep this up for the rest of the year, taking it one month/one day/one meal at a time. :) Happy maintaining everyone!
