JREIMER. I did the same thing. I am taking prednisone which is a steroid with side effects of weight gain and from the gout my foot is swollen. I feel really good today though and am almost through with the medication. Hope to see things going better.

Isn't it amazing that you can become possessive of a weight number? When I am low, it's more of a possession than an achievement, and I can hardly bear to part with it. How utterly dumb, but there it is.

I weighed in and I gained 2 lbs from last week. However, that put me in the middle of my goal range instead of at the very "bottom" so I'm ok with it. I'll admit, even though I'm still in my range, it was hard seeing the scale go up. I'll have to "watch that" mentally. I really don't want to become obsessed. emoticon

I weighed on my scales today which are with my TOPS chapters scales. I am still under goal although the steriods I am taking for the latest gout attack caused a lot of swelling One of the side effects of steriods is weight gain.

When I weighed this morning, I was back to 110 and am feeling very grateful! This week I cut out desserts and walked 40 min. instead of 30 a few times and that did the trick. It's still easier to gain weight unconsciously than to lose it consciously, so I'm going to try to stay conscious all the time of "calories in - calories out", even when circumstances get me off schedule sometimes.

This past week we had our daughter from California visiting and tried to have all her favorite foods. The trouble was they were all my favorite foods, too, so I gained 5 lbs. It really woke me up when I got on the scale and I'm upping my exercise and cutting my calories this week.
If I can gain 5 lbs. in a week, I should be able to lose them in a week - right? Wish me luck!

I've tried weighing weekly and I've tried weighing daily. When I only weigh once a week I don't feel like I'm getting the full picture and each weigh is too important. I find my morning naked weighs fluctuate about 6 pounds, so with only 4 weights per month I can't really tell if I'm gaining or losing. When I was losing weight I found the best measure was to compare my low weigh for each month and that way I saw steady progress. When I'm weighing daily I have to talk to myself to keep me from obsessing, though.

I've also tried weighing after good days to motivate myself and don't weigh after bad days in order not to de-motivate myself. This method works well for me as long as I don't allow myself to ignore the scale for too long. Sodium bloat is usually gone with lots of water drinking in 48-72 hours and then I make myself find out how bad it really is. Seems to assist me in getting back on program.

I weigh once a week for the team challenge, which works well for me. If I weigh more often, I obsess. If I weigh less often, I think "it's okay that I was over on calories again today, I don't have to weigh anytime soon". lol Also, if I am weighing for a challenge (sort of for an "outside" reason), then I tend not to give too much power to that number on the scale, as I would if I was weighing just for me (sort of for an "inner" reason).

Nell, my gynecologist told me that weight gain is "inevitable" with menopause/hysterectomy. That made me mad (because I already had soooooo many other symptoms to deal with! Hmph!!). So, I tried hard and lost the hysterectomy weight gain, hungry as I was. :P

I only weigh in once a week...otherwise I tend to get a bit obsessive. I agree with NELLJONES. I'm also below my goal range. About three pounds this week, but I love it, too! I figure this is the "new" goal range and since I'm feeling good, I'm very pleased.

It was fun going back to work after summer break and having others tell me how great I look. A few implied that I need to "stop" losing weight and some came right out and said it. It must be the strength training since I've only lost about five pounds since school let out last May. I honestly can't remember every weighing what I do now. My husband even said he thinks I'm thinner than when we got married. (I know the jeans are smaller!)

Thanks to all of you for your support! I really appreciate it! emoticon

I weigh every day. It keeps me honest for the day.

But I LOVE being below goal. My original goal many years ago was 114. It was the low goal in the tables WW used to use. Then I lowered it to 108 because I liked being thinner. Now I am about 104 and I get as panicky seeing 105 as I used to when I saw 147 all those years ago. As if I'd go from 104 to 147 in a day. I know I can get back up to 120 during menopause. (You know they always tell you about hot flashes and irritability, but no one calls weight gain a symptom, even though we all suffer it.) So I lost all that and got back down like I did before, same plan. Now I hang onto my current weight like it's gold. People tell me I never eat, but I do. Three, count them, three times a day, all planned and weighed out and entered in my journal. If I have nothing else, if I can control nothing else in my life, I can control my weight.

Yes, I'm there. Actually, I'm below my goal weight by 2 pounds. Someone else said the same thing, and for the same reason: Those 2 pounds are like money in the bank. But that's a dangerous attitude for me, I think. Because if I know I have some leeway, I'm too likely to take advantage of it.

To fight it all, I keep tracking, tracking, tracking. I haven't yet found just the right balance between calories that I have to burn and calories that I can take in. But it's only been a week!

Question to other team members: What works better for you, weighing daily or weighing weekly? I'm currently doing it weekly to support the team goals. But in the past, I've weighed daily with the idea that I'll catch a turn upward before it happens. What do you do?

Started at 138, aiming for 125. Got there, and 120 seemed possible. Got THERE, and 118 seemed possible. Got THERE, and 115 seemed possible. And that's where I want to stay. Maintain, maintain, maintain.

Its two weeks post surgery and I actually dropped from my goal weight in spite of no exercise and staying at my Mom's (high carb cooking) Go figure. I have learned to live with weight fluctuations. For me they seem to be as much as five pounds either way. But it always seems to go back to around 121. Currently 118. I only weigh in once a week.

Monty and Nell, I absolutely understand. Just this week I was thinking will there ever be a time when I step on the scale and a 2 pound gain/fluctuation doesn't freak me out?? I hope I can gain greater peace with food, the scale, the mirror, food trackers, etc.

Nell,
You are not alone. Suffice to say, I'm new to weight maintenance but not to human behavior and thought process. I set my goal weight range early (165-175 with my goal weight at 170) and have been at 174.8 twice. (as late as yesterday.) As I crept up, my anxiety levels rose. I thought I had understood that weight fluctuation is to be expected and I can manipulate it. But I still became paranoid over it. Today, I won again, and am down to 173.5. I believe I know the source of my gaining and I resolved it.

There is no doubt that, for me, it is psychologically unhealthy to live this way. I have to watch my weight daily. I am also going to speak to my doctor about my thought approach to this and resolve it. I don't need added stress like this. We're all just human. Be well.

There is something terrifying about gaining weight, even when it's OK. I am under my goal, and just the couple of pounds upward TOWARD my goal scare me. The pounds below goal are like savings that I don't want to spend. (I'm a saver by nature.) I have been obsessing about my weight since I was 12. That's 50 years now. I know what to do and how to do it, and I have been at or around goal for 41 of those 50 years, but the panic and obsession live on.

Not the past few weeks. I gained 2 pounds this week and was already up 2 pounds from my goal weight. So, I'm at 4 pounds above my goal weight. I have been exercising consistently but have been eating more.

I have to watch it because I don't want to continue this upward trend.

In the last ten days I have maintained around the middle of my range (165-175) from 171.1 to 172.4. My BMI has been between 23.17 and 23.35. I found that my calorie range was too high and it was keeping me close to the high point of my range. Just dropping 200 calories put me in better line with my cardio and strength training. But I will still do some tweaking with my workouts in the gym and see what happens. I do know that I can manipulate my weight now so I don't stress out at all if I start to rise towards that high range. Craziness. I also have a better understanding of what foods will take me there as well. Live and learn!

I am but it's been awhile since I tracked my food and my exercise. I'm starting up again to keep myself in check. I worked too hard to get rid of this weight to start putting it back on. I started off wanting to lose 30 as a realistic goal but ended up with 45 instead and I'm soooo relieved!!!!

Give up everything you love, and everything that tastes good = weight loss! Simple as that!

It IS a bummer to break a streak! Just spinning the wheel checks me in, and that's the one thing I can't do on my phone.

I'm bummed. I got really busy one day and then went out that night and didn't get to log in so I broke my streak. I guess if that's all that happens then I'll be doing ok. Keep up the good work and don't stop trying! emoticon

Hi everyone. I thought it would be a good idea to join a maintenance team like this since I reached my goal weight sometime around March. I'm looking forward to being a part of it.

I love reading all the responses. So many people doing so very well on this team. Congrats to all of you. We've got a few people working their plans to get off a few pounds. Sounds like every one knows what to do. I feel pretty confident in this team!!!

I'm still a pound under my range, but I did gain almost a pound back. I'm getting there and I'd rather be under than over. Good job to the rest of you maintaining! emoticon

I'm up 2 pounds from where I want to be, but I'm working on it very seriously.

I am still at the low end of my range. As long as no part of my thighs touch each other when I have my heels together, I'm happy.

Weighed in at the gym yesterday after work. Right in the middle of my range. Hooray! I'm like you, Marsha, always amazed that I am staying here! Not without consciously choosing healthy foods and continuing to walk, hike, and do strength training, though! I love being healthy and the old ways don't pull at me as strong as they used to.

I am in my goal range and have finally dropped most the 7 lbs I gained over the holidays. New yoga practice is helping a lot.

This summer has been good -- I am still in my range. I think it is because of the added exercise when I joined the Amazing Race on the Wii Fit team. I have doubled my activity level so haven't struggled so much maintaining. When this is over, I'll have to find another strong motivator.

Yes, I'm starting August right at my goal weight and plan to stay there by logging my food and exercise every day. Hope the weather cools off soon so I can get back to walking outdoors.

My clothes are still fitting, but I feel gross. I can tell my body fat is up right now. I need to make better choices when it comes to food! I do good for the most part, but darn I love to eat! Exercising only makes up for so much of it! lo.! Good job everyone! Keep making good choices! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Still struggling to get back into goal range, or to determine exactly what my goal is. Always thought it was 130-135, and did get there briefly last September and again in January, but keep bouncing back up. Now I am thinking maybe it should be 137-142, which puts me at the top of my range right now.

Ugh! I am 6 lbs above my goal range but I know I will get back there. Like Lisaw/3 said I've got a plan implemented to get back into my range!
