Some interesting statistics:

Mouse over the charts to get more information about specific categories.

Pie chart of how many people reached maintenance, in which year:
spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl
=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0Ah4KrA4GkhKgdC1oV
GRkVTA0bUNTZk5zTGtzeHZGRmc&single=true
&gid=3&output=html

You can see the attrition rate, here. Most people drift away a couple years after reaching maintenance.

Histogram of how many people reached goal weight in a given month:
spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl
=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0Ah4KrA4GkhKgdC1oV
GRkVTA0bUNTZk5zTGtzeHZGRmc&single=true
&gid=4&output=html

A lot of people seem to reach goal weight in mid summer and November. Almost no one reaches it in October or the beginning of the year. I suspect because most of the "food holidays" go from Halloween until Easter.

...And here's a table of the longest maintainers:
spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl

July 2010 I reached my goal weight of 158 and I've managed to stay around that weight, or less for the past year. Working out, watching what I eat and tracking has been my friend. Running 3x's a week has also helped. I want to stay this size for the rest of my life!

Yeah, there isn't a way to automate calculations on those spreadsheets. I have to cut & paste the formula for all the new entries, then sort by date, then by month.

It's one reason I'd love help with this.

Just fill out the form.
spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/viewfo

The very first question is where you put your Spark ID.

You appear to have done it right; I have a formula in the spreadsheet I use to format the spark page url from the spark id.

Did you read the DailyBlog about maintenance today? It suggests that we 1) remind ourselves of why we lost the weight and 2) reward ourselves for the behaviors needed to maintain. Yes. Let's do that!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who think that it takes a lot of work to stay at maintenance.
I also can't say it has become easier in time. I'm patient and that's good!
I'm sure for many members it is easier in time. Congratulations to those members.

I'll celebrate 10 years of maintenance on July 2nd, 2014!

I love this idea! I used to wonder if I'd ever take for granted that I am thin. The answer is NO! For starters maintaining takes constant vigilence. I can still f eel like an imposter shopping in the smaller clothes sizes. I went into Lane Bryant with my niece and drew dagger looks from some of the staff and customers. I wanted to shout "Hey just a few years ago I was this stores best customer"!!

What a great idea!! I filled out the form . . . thanks for thinking of it . . . but had lost the original 80 pounds in 2001-2002 (from 230 to 150) then joined SP in May 2009 when I'd put about 20 back on, at 172 then -- took it off, back down to 150-155, and since then have further slimmed down, maintaining at 138 or so for the last several months.

Maintaining is tough . . . and the support of other maintainers is terrific!!

@ SLENDERELLA61

You're welcome!

I'm really hoping that we can build something here that acknowledges and celebrates how rare and valuable maintainers are.

It will also be helpful for those of us who are in the beginning stages of maintenance to see who are the real success stories of maintenance so we can explore their spark pages and see what kinds of strategies they use, how they wrap their minds around it, etc.

@ CARTER4414 and SUSIEMT
Sounds good to me. "When" you get to goal is kind of a fuzzy concept anyway because the transition from weight loss mode to weight maintenance mode is frequently not smooth.

If you don't know when you reached it, then just pick a date and we'll celebrate THEN. Just take your best guess and if you really don't know, then pick some random but reasonable date (like not when you were 6 months old, or something, LOL)

Honestly, it doesn't matter how accurate it is, as long as we celebrate it, right?

This is such a terrific idea. At TOPS where I started about the same time I started SPARK they celebrate anniversaries. We just celebrated two five year anniversaries in our team in the past few months.
Also we give a party for the person who becomes a KOP and honor them. That is what one of the pictures is on my page of me holding a plaque.
It is really an encouragement. We have people in TOPS who have celebrated decades of being a KOP
Thank you.

This was great, by accident I put the weight that I lost when I joined Sparks, but I should of put my total loss, which I did and refilled out the form. You may see me twice on the list,if so,can you delete the10 lbs loss? It was37lbs total. Wow, can;t believe I did that!

Great idea. Have logged it in already. I've kept track on my cell phone. Have changed my goal weight three times but finally settled on the "100 lbs gone" milestone as my goal weight and that was May 6, 2011. Puts me in a healthy BMI and I feel amazing. Actually currently 6 lbs under that. Still very motivated and thankful for forums like this to help in the maintaining journey. More confident than ever because I have changed my whole way of thinking. As I was just thinking about it, I created an anniversary reminder in my cell phone. Maybe will create a monthly reminder also.

emoticon to those of you that have been maintaining for YEARS! I hope that will be me this time. I reached my "second" goal weight on April 15th. I am now 4 lbs under that! So far so good, but I'm really watching it so the weight doesn't start creeping back on again.

emoticon for all the support and for the new maintaining challenge! It really helps to be accountable. It also taps into my competitive side which, in this case, is a good thing!

That would be fun if I could remember. I lost my initial 33 pounds in 1970, I think at the end of the year. Gained 10 pounds in the 90s, lost it again I can't rem
ember when but it was awhile ago.

I can remember feeling destroyed by fat, the elation of losing, the frustration of the menopause 10, but I can't for the life of me remember dates.

The awesome news from PERSISTENCEMIMI that she has maintained for SEVEN YEARS reminded me of something else I wanted to do for us.

I'd like to keep track of maintenance anniversaries so we can celebrate them and give people a big woo-hoo.

If you'd like to participate, fill in this form here:
spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/viewfo
rm?hl=en_US&formkey=dC1oVGRkVTA0bUNTZk

Here's the spreadsheet of anniversaries so far:
spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl
=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0Ah4KrA4GkhKgdC1oV
GRkVTA0bUNTZk5zTGtzeHZGRmc&output=html

I've added PERSISTENCEMIMI so you will have an idea of what it will look like.

Periodically we can sort it by calendar date so we'll know whose anniversaries are coming up next.

If anyone would like to volunteer to manage this project (periodically sort new entries and send team spark goodies) let me know! I'll show you how to do everything and give you access to the spreadsheet. You would need to be a team leader in order to distribute congratulatory goodies. The more team leaders we have, the better!

Never, ever, EVER give up!
