MADJIK - i had about the same type of easter. not only did we have easter dinner but we also celebrated my nephew's birthday. I did eat a good dinner and had a slice of both cookie cake and ice cream cake. i wasn't hungry for supper that night and when i weighed in the next morning i was up only a pound and a half.

Good for you MADJIK -- life happens. It's important to celebrate with family, and it looks like you will go back to normal activity with exersize and all will be well again.

Well I have 3 kids, it was my birthday on the 20th and my son's on the 25th and my parents came for 4 days. There is a recipe for disater lol. Lots of candy, cake and my hubby bought chips, nachos and made 7 layer dip. I managed to sit and watch them eat the chips and nachos but did have cake and candy. So of course I am up 4 pounds arg.

On the bright side it is beautiful out and the snow is almost gone. I am enjoying my runs and have increased my time to 45 min from 30. The local gym ask me to clean twice a week and they would give me a free membership! lol He said women clean better then men so would you do it? lmao

Run faster, run farther until you hit the wall of realization that you CAN do anything you put your mind to!

I did not track yesterday, but ate two pieces of chocolate. So now, we will see how long the rest lasts and when I have enough calories to eat any, and what items I can find nutrition information on.

I do like dark chocolate and would indulge in some dark chocolate Easter candy, but since our kids are grown and far away, it probably won't be an option. There are going to be many other temptations, however, as we are having an Easter feast which will include traditional family food which has not been healthified.I might eat more than usual, but since I have changed my eating habits, I won't be tempted to go too far overboard.(I hope!)

Candy, on the whole, doesn't tempt me, but if it's in my house, it calls to me. So I don't keep any in the house. There is dark chocolate here for my husband, but I loathe dark chocolate.

Now that the kids are grown and gone, Easter isn't about candy anymore.

Now the sweet, yeast risen breakfast bread hot out of the oven is a different story!

I managed to spoil myself by only eating the best chocolate anymore that I can only afford in small quantities. Hershey's doesn't even tempt me anymore. Last year I bought one Lindt small easter bunny for everyone, this year it's some organic gourmet dark chocolate and some dried fruit covered in gourmet chocolate.

It's like alcohol for me sometimes I can't eat just one brownie, or cookie or whatever. Most days I am a complete angel and sometimes I just want to eat all I want and not think about it.
I am learning a balance I think, but I may have to be more diligent about tracking. emoticon

You know for me, it helps that I always have chocolate around. If I have some extra calories at the end of the day, I can have a small piece of dark chocolate. Yes, sometimes it involves breaking off a square of chocolate and putting the rest back in the fridge. But knowing it is there, helps me avoid the free sweets at church, the grocery store, other people's houses, etc. I think also having it available, in 30 to 50 calorie doses means that I can have it a few times a week and that helps me not to binge when I do get it. Now Easter day, is going to be hard for me, as I have an Easter breakfast at church and we will be doing a ham for Easter dinner, and I have some Easter candy for the family too.

I still distinctly remember that after the first diet I ever went on, for only two weeks, I attended a bridal shower and scarfed down the butter mints like there was no tomorrow. I won't subject myself to such a strict diet again, but I also will take responsibility for my actions. While it's true that restricting palatable foods can lead to powerful urges to overeat, I'm still the one who chooses to keep eating. When I give up responsibility, I've lost. (However, I also treat myself with kindness if I mess up. No browbeating.)

I have had some success with three techniques. One is I eat the candy in the presence of other people. I tend not to go overboard on sweets at parties and such. Two is that I eat it as dessert, meaning I have had a meal, though I often eat less starch than I normally would. Three is I cannot have more than the volume of my fist. That is pretty generous and I don't always need that much, depending on the density of the sweet. but it keeps me from feeling that I only get a smidgen.

I do find that rather naturally the next day I don't often feel as hungry. I don't usually purposely cut back on my food. I just find I want less, so I eat less. And I don't eat sweets during the week, so after Easter I go back to my routine.emoticon

Well, I have a plan. I decided even while losing that I was not going to miss out on special holiday treats. I would allow myself a limited amount, and end at that. Even though I often ate twice what I planned, I did a whole lot better simply by having a plan.

For Easter, I will be by-passing the candy... except that I will purchase ONE Cadburry Cream Egg, which I intend to save for May 1st, when I cross the finish line of my first half-marathon, rather than on Easter. Just knowing I have it coming as a special treat / reward helps me stay strong this weekend!

Anyway, that's the plan. We'll see how it works out. emoticon

I am replying just so I'll get notified when someone responds... not because I have any good ideas! I am TERRIBLE with holiday candy that contains chocolate. I usually don't do well at parties where there is a lot of junk up for grabs. So, I'd like to hear what strategies others use.

I'm curious how many of my fellow mainteners have allowed themselves (or will allow themselves) to indulge in some Easter candy. I have to admit that this past Tuesday I went a little overboard with the candy. At our monthly Bunko game our theme was Easter and our hostess had provided several of my favorite Easter candies, including Reeses PB Eggs and M&M's. I ate too much and felt horrible the next morning, I mean physically horrible. My body wasn't used to all that sugar and my stomache was upset most of the next morning. I watched what i ate the next couple of days and when I weighed in this morning i was well within my maintenance range.

So, have any of you experienced something similar to this? Have any of you been able to indulge in Easter candy without going overboard? If so, let me know what the secret is!
