KHAYNES-I lost weight on the weigh down workshop too. As soon as it was over, I started gaining it all back and then some. I think that the accountability of the group and weighing in each week was the only thing that kept me accountable. I am still attending Weight Watchers meetings so that I can have that same accountability. While WW recommends that you eat healthy, it is not necessary and is mostly portion control also. Portion control is definitely a problem that I have, but I want to eat healthier. I am trying to eat as little processed foods as possible. I have been making all of my own bread for the past year and try not to buy much that comes in a box or can. It's amazing how much less I spend on groceries now too!. It sounds like you have made the lifestyle change that you need to maintain your loss for life! Congratulations!

CHICKUMS - i know what you mean about eating healthy. i lost weight once on the weigh down workshop which is basically portion control. i lost weight but i wasn't eating healthy, just eating less of unhealthy food. i didn't feel any better than before i lost the weight and it didn't take me long to gain the weight back. this time i lost weight on the south beach diet and following the same principals for maintenance and i feel great.

CHICKUMS We also have charms at TOPS and I have oodles of them.
I already told you why I don't eat dill pickles. I hate them. They make my mouth pucker and I retain a lot of water also. I do eat things I didn't eat while I was losing though.
Try to have my 5 veggies and fruit a day along with protein and of course at least 8 glasses or more of water.

I would definitely have it again. I do not buy into the deprivation game. I just had no idea that it had that much sodium in it! It really is eye opening! I am not a big salt eater and never thought that I would go over on my sodium. But here I am on my third day of SP and I went over on my sodium! I really do like tracking all the different nutrients. I am realizing that just because I lost the weight, doesn't necessarily mean I am eating healthy. Also, I have yet to reach my daily allowance of protein. This is really going to help me eat a more balanced diet! emoticon

I'm up 3 pounds from last month and I'm working hard to loser those 3 pounds.
I wish losing weight would be as easy as gaining weight.....smile...
I threw to the garbage the rest of the delicious passover bagels. I just can't stop at one. Too many carbs make me gain weight.

When I'm 5 pounds above my minimum ultimate weight (149) , I declair a aserious "war" to lose the extra pounds.

Congratulations to all who are at maintenance and also to those who gained , but are back on track and working on losing those few pounds.
it's so much better to catch it at 3-5 pounds gain, than 10, 20, 50........

6 years, 9 months and 19 days on maintenance!

I'll celebrate 10 years of maintenance on July 2nd, 2014!

It seems a little scary that you can't go ahead and have a pickle at a ball game, even it means a little water weight gain for a day. Is that considered a slippery slope? emoticon

It is a good thing I hate dill pickles. I know they have a lot of sodium and i definitely don't need that as I swell enough anyway.
I still have my weight watchers pins. Did I tell you?

Yes, WW is expensive but it was well worth the money! Since I am a Lifetime member at goal, I don't have to pay now. That is one of the reasons that I am still going to attend meetings. I don't want to have to pay to attend, so that will help keep me motivated to stay at my goal and not let it start slipping upwards. I need that accountability. I am doing everything I can to set myself up to succeed. I have been wanting to start SP for a while, I just didn't think it was appropriate while i was a WW employee. I really do like tracking the other nutients. I had a pickle at a ball game last night and had no idea it had over 1700 grams of sodium! Really is eye opening!

Years ago I lost a lot of weight at WW in Mexico when I lived there. Then when I got to goal I quit and gained the weight back plus a lot more.
I still have my pins.
They are more expensive than TOPS though where I go now.

I have maintained a 61 pound weight loss for almost 2 years! I lost my weight on Weight Watchers and have been a WW leader for the past year. I have resigned from WW and am ready for a change. I am tired of counting points and am going to try and count calories on SparkPeople for a while. I am really liking the change. I also like tracking the other nutrients! I was in a rut and this is really helping me to be excited about journaling again. I am going to continue attending WW meetings though. I've seen too many people lose the weight disappear from meetings only to gain it back. I am going to continue to journal my food every day and get as much support as possible. Thanks SparkPeople. You are just what I needed!

I still consider my experience with the Spark lifestyle an amazing success story, even though I am up a few pounds from the goal weight I originally achieved at the end of 2008. I aim to get back to that goal and I'm working on it, but what's different this time is that I don't believe that this gradual re-gain of a few pounds is the beginning of a full-out yo-yo experience -- which is how it it would have been -- pre-Spark. The support of great teams like this one is a huge part of the difference. Thank you for being there!

MAGGIEROSEBOWL - congratulations on your achievement! you've done a great job. you're definitely right about maintenance - you pretty much have to do the same things you did when you were losing the weight. i've learned this after several unsuccessful attempts at maintenance. i just hit the maintenance stage a couple of weeks and i did add in a few more calories but they are calories that are allowed on the diet plan i follow which is the south beach diet. exercise will also definitely help with maintenance. good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing.

I JUST hit my goal on Friday (it's Monday now). I have never hit a weight loss goal before, and did notice my goal weight is higher than anybody else's here. But that's okay, I think I weighed more than anybody else here when I started too.
I am going to need all the motivation and inspiration I can get to maintain. I know that already. Over the weekend, I started thinking dumb things like, "Now that I'm at goal, I can eat this or that." NO NO NO! I can't! I need to continue eating exactly as I have been. In the first place, I want to lose at least 10 more pounds, so that when I fluctuate, my weight NEVER goes over my goal weight. S that means at least for the present time, I can't add any calories to my day, and should probably deduct even more, because the less I weigh, the fewer calories it takes to maintain. I also need to get off my butt and start moving. But GOAL is a great place to be, even though I know my work has just begun!

For me "getting serious" means changing from wishful thinking to specific goals and actions.

Like earlier this month I was several pounds over my goal weight. I complained for weeks about the weight gain, but didn't track calories or increase exercise. Finally I "got serious" by writing down specific diet & exercise goals to accomplish each day. Complaining didn't make a change in my behavior, but I showed I was "serious" when I took action.

PS I'm back at goal!.

I weighed 3 pounds heavier at Weight Watchers yesterday. I was wanting to gain half a pound. I think the rest of the gain is fluctuation, more food in system, and heavier clothes. In other words, I'm not freaking. But if I have a gain next week, I'm getting serious!!

Things had gone really well for three months, but today's weigh in had me 2# up. I know I've had a stressful week and I know I've been eating more and eating more junk. And, unfortunately, in the moment(s) I really didn't care. In fact I was a bit belligerent about my eating.
So now I need to regroup a bit. It's not the exercise, that's going just fine. It's eating all those things that got me in trouble in the first place (scones and chocolate to be specific). I know what to do, but I'm not sure how to shift my attitude so that I do it.

QFBRENDA - y'ou're exactly right. Maintaining isn't much different than losing. This is the main thing I've heard over and over since joining SP that I had never considered. Having this mindset is what I'm hoping will make the difference in my maintenance attempt this time around.

Yep, I'm at goal and maintaining. I've been bouncing around between 121 and 123.5. So far I'm finding maintenance to be pretty similar to losing. I have to keep doing the same things... exercise, eat lots of fruits and veggies, keep track of what I eat, etc. Not much has changed.

I am not at my weight loss goal, but my big issue has been binge eating. My meals are actually pretty good and have been for a long time. But when I wasn't eating meals, I was bingeing on pasta, chocolate, cake, cookies, ice cream, bread, etc. However, yesterday I completed 3 weeks of being binge free, and over the past 15 months, I have greatly reduced the number of binge events and the extent of them. I really feel I am getting a handle on this. When I do, I'll figure out if I actually need to target a lower number of calories every day, but not until then. emoticon

I am at my goal. I want to stay below 140#. For me it really takes a lot of exercise & planning my meals! I feel it very important to track my foods. My goal is worth all the work it takes me to do it. I have slipped many times but have to start all over again! So right now I am very pleased. We just got back from a 4 month vacation in Fl. My oldest brother & wife spent 3 months near us. We had a great time. Lots of eating out! My DH is a great help to me & great inspiration for me. It will always be a struggle for me to keep my weight down this I do know! I have fought it all my married life (going on 58 years)! It is worth all the effort to me as I feel so much better! Anne

On Monday I met my weight loss goal!!! My goal was 103 and when I weighed in I was actually at 101.5. Now maintenance begins! I have a really good feeling about it this time though. I've learned through several unsuccessful maintenance tries that just because I've lost the weight means the diet ends. I'll be adding a couple more snacks to my daily eating but still stick with the diet I've been following. And once in a while I'll add a cheat in but not let them become a habit.

Two pounds below goal since reaching it two weeks ago.
Still getting used to it and finding my way. Not making any changes in what I do yet.

Not at goal -- and gaining. Had a stressful winter but that isn't an excuse. I really need to get back to good habits. I've been exercising more, but have only been tracking calories 3 days. Hope to get it under control soon...my "fat" jeans are getting snug & I had to go into storage to get clothes that fit appropriate for attending a funeral today.

Thankfully I am within 2 pounds plus or minus from my 6 year maintenance weight. Moderation and consistent exercise - I just have to keep these two concepts at the forefront and sometimes it is tough!!

I have some "winter weight " to work off, but I'm making progress. + 5# and I get pretty serious about getting back down where I belong.

I'm not quite at goal but that's because I measure it differently now. I consult a mirror only rather than the scales. If I think a bikini looks good I'm at goal so I'm working on adding some more muscle and losing some more fat.

Yes. I've managed to keep within a couple of pounds of my goal weight since losing it all almost 5 years ago.

DIET IS A FOUR LETTER WORD!!!!

We are constantly creating our "karma" or destiny through our intentions, thoughts and deeds in this moment. It is achieved through countless deliberate acts of selflessness.

It's hard to be happy with others if we are not happy with ourselves.

Just keep on moving and you'll get there.

If you ever want to feel good about yourself, go out and help someone else!

Just got back from a 3 week vacation - road trip with college roommate from Midwest to LA, over 3500 miles. Will get on scale tomorrow... think I will be up some, but hope not too much.

Lost 65 lbs and maintained since 2006.

Yes. I'm where I want to be, but it feels tenuous.

I'm below my goal weight range, but just barely. Don't need to stuff. Don't even need to eat more unless a downward trend continues.
