No. After I hit my first goal of a healthy BMI I started weighing in every Saturday and shopping to reward a maintenance weight. I allowed myself one piece of clothing, usually a great bargain. But I had one other rule. Every time I bought a piece of clothing, I had to get rid of at least one. I have gotten rid of all my 2Xs, 1X, 18, 16, 14, and almost all of my 12, 10, and now I'm getting rid of a lot of my 8s. I donate to a charity thrift store where I used to work.

I was wanting to get rid of them, but my Mom insisted on storing them for a year, finally, she gave them to charity. I had some nice clothes, but they couldn't be altered to fit without losing a lot of the design. I went from an XL top to S, but as women's sizing is so ridiculous, can't honestly say what pant sizes I dropped in numbers. I went from XL to some medium and some small. Its just not consistent. I recently bought what they call an 8. I still think sizes 0-6 should be reserved for babies as that makes more sense to me!!

(edited -- cause I realized I read the question backwards when I first posted) NO WAY! I'm NOT going back there ... and someone else can benefit from my loss! Have given stuff away in "batches" -- every few months I'd get rid of another bag of stuff, usually taking to a friend at work. She picked a few things she wanted, then the rest went to our church clothing exchange. I had a friend alter a few things, but I went from 16s to 8s, and you can't really alter THAT much!
Now (2 years into maintainance) I still find a few things that are too big. If I pull something out to wear, try it on & don't feel it flatters me, it goes away!!

I gave away a few pairs of pants. The rest I took to my friendly, highly skilled tailor, who did his usual fantastic job by taking them in. And I was never so happy to spend money on alterations in my life!

It took me 5 years after the initial 80 pound weight loss in 2001-2002 to really really believe that I wasn't going to regain it all: I tried to give away my size 20s, 18s, 16s, 14s and 12s to friends but without much success, ended up donating to thrift stores. I've been very grateful to accept clothes from friends and also happy to buy from thrift shops!!

At 5'9" 137 pounds I I wear mostly 8s, some 6s: recently tried on (but did not buy) a number of size 4 dresses which looked great!! My 10s are still sitting in my closet but mostly too large. It's probably time to cull and donate again . . .

All my "fat clothes" went to either 1) my mom to make a jean quilt or 2) to my aunt's "free store" for lower income people. I never want to wear them again!

I had one pair of pants I found in the closet and saw the size 44 waist on them! Then the range was from 42 down to 38. Shirt sizes from XXL to XL gone with some L. All donated to Goodwill! I will miss some of my tees but I will NEVER need them again! I now wear waist 34 with S/M shirt size depending on the designer. Sweet!

No, I've kept NO fat clothes. Now I kinda wish that I had kept a pair of jeans or something. But I didn't. As I lost weight, I had to buy clothes and started haunting the thrift stores, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. I had shopped there a little before, but not much. Now thrift stores are just about the only place that I shop for clothes. I find such nice, name-brand, hardly-worn things for such little money, it's crazy. I'm recycling and saving money, too. Just about the only "new" clothes I've bought are underpants and bras! And I have the nicest wardrobe that I've had in years and years. When I was fat, I hated trying on or buying clothes. Now it's kinda fun.

I have a few larger sizes saved away. As I lost and ran out of room in my storage totes, I just gave away the biggest sizes. I think the largest in there now are 12's (I'm wearing anything from a 4 to an 8 now, depending on the clothes). I guess I know from experience that life circumstances can make the weight come back (like injuries or illnesses), so I figure it's not a bad idea to have some bigger sizes around. Probably I will weed those down in the future, so it's just a size or two up.

No way! I got rid of any clothes that were too big as soon as they were too big! I donated them all to a variety of clothing banks--whichever one I could get to the soonest! I just bought a few things in each size on my way down the scale to hold me over til I reached my goal weight! Now, I just have the fun of slowly filling my closet with size 4 and small clothes! FUN for this shopaholic!! And I just read a sp article that shopping daily prolongs lifespan! That's my kind of news emoticon

I got rid of all my 2X, 1X, 18, 16, 14. I have a couple of my favorite 12s left, but they are too big. Need to donate them. I have almost no 10s. I have a bunch of 8s and some of them look okay. My clothes that fit are mostly 6s and 4s, although I even have some 4s that are too big.

Mostly my rule is when I get something new, I have to get rid of something. So maybe it is time for me to go shopping again!!

I donated all of mine. No point in keeping the security blanket there. If my clothes get too tight then that is a sign I need to back off the food and exercise more. I think not having them in the house make sit easier to maintain.

I donated basically all of my old clothes but have held onto a few tshirts (to sleep in) and my biggest pair of fat jeans. To me, that's my trophy emoticon It's not like I'll ever forget where I've come from, but sometimes I like/need the physical reminder!

I'm keeping one type of clothing (skirt, t-shirt, suit, etc) from the largest size (size 18-20). I want to try it on if I'm tempted to throw in the towel and quit maintenance.

The middle clothes have to go. I want a new wardrobe to show off my personal style. My old clothes are just the ones that fitted at the time.

My favourite clothes will have to be altered. I have a pair of trousers that's too loose now, but I love them so much that I don't want to let go!

I had to give up most of my clothes by the time I reached goal in April. I'd been wearing the same outfits for almost 5-8 years for the most part and it was time to let them go. However, there were clothes in my closet that I grew out of but I absolutely loved them. I had hoped to wear them again, but! They're too big on me now! emoticon Most of them are not worth the money to get altered.
So I've donated a LOT of my clothes, I still need to do so because now I need fall/winter clothes that fit. It's a nice problem to have, but it does take time to rebuild a wardrobe!

I struggle with this one too. I have gotten rid of my 14's and XL shirts. I have not gotten rid of all my 12's simply because the pants are Limited Brand and I don't want to just give them to Goodwill (I know, sounds pretty selfish). I did just recently send some 12's to another Sparkfriend which was awesome! Most of the non-name brand ones, I've sent to GW, the others I'm holding on to until another Sparkfriend can use them.

Now that I just bought 6's, I guess it's a good time for me to clean out my 10's too. I would have to say that buying clothes has been one of the most frustrating things about losing weight because they are so expensive.

I've really be struggling with the idea of being at goal so I was holding on to them, because I still wake up of a morning and feel like the size 22 I used to be. I decided it was time and took 5 garbage bags full to good will on Friday!

I've still got mine, but packed away. My mum has started swearing some. I'll keep the biggest ones so I can always remember where I'm coming from. Otherwise, I'm getting rid of them.

I think it's best not to have them to grow back into. Little wiggle room means every few pounds will show, so you'll be less tempted to cheat yourself.

I gave away my biggest item every time I bought a smaller one, which was usually every week. I now have pretty much and entire wardrobe at goal size.

Absolutely NOT!! No way will I give myself an excuse to gain the weight back. All went to the Goodwill.

I have to admit, tho, that I kept many skinny clothes from many years ago....and I'm so enjoying wearing them now.

I have gotten rid of most of my too-big clothes. I do have some work clothes that are a size too big since I can't afford to replenish my entire wardrobe! And I've kept some t-shirts that are a size too big to wear as sleep shirts/comfy around the house shirts.

But everything that is more than one size too big is gone!

As a former yo-yoer I always kept my fat clothes in the past. I finally gave them to charity after getting involved in a thread like this. I became convinced that I should close off the possible escape route back to being bigger again.

This was the right decision for me.Getting rid of the clothes was a symbolic act for me (that also benefitted others).

I got rid of the clothes I had when I first started my weight loss journey. But I did keep the clothes that are one size up from where I am now. Just in case! Maybe it's keeping me in line. emoticon

Last fall I got rid of almost all of my larger clothes, except for some summer shirts I liked and thought I could wear "around the house". But this summer when I wore one, my daughter said, "that is just too big", so I am going to finally purge all clothes that don't fit. I think it will be a free feeling to only have a few clothes to look after.

I did not keep them either as I didn't want to grow back into them.

I did however, keep 2 pairs of jeans because I just loved them so much and didn't have them long. My justification for keeping them was that I could put longer underwear on under them and use them for winter riding.

However.. I know better now, and running tights would keep me warmer and they will fit under my current jeans...but until I need the space in the closet, they are there.

I absolutely did not keep my fat clothes. I did keep a couple of sweatshirts for camping, but everything else is gone. I don't want a fall-back wardrobe. Anything to help keep me in line.

I have gradually given most of my too-large clothes away and was surprised when I recently came across 2 pair of jeans I had stashed away, 'just in case' I needed them again. Those are gone now, too. It really feels like this time the weight is off for good.

When I got down to an 8/10, I gave all my 12's and 14's (2 huge bags!) to a friend who is also trying to lose weight. Now that I am in 4s and 6s, the 8s and 10s (just one small bag this time!)are bagged and ready to go to the same friend. I don't intend to need any of those things again. I don't have nearly as many clothes as I once did, but everything is in good shape and fits well.

Hmmm. I packed all that was too big and it is all hidden away in storage. Figured I would keep them for a year and then get rid of them. Sort of like a good luck charm. Read somewhere that only 20% of the folks that have lost a great deal of weight manage to keep it off long term. I really want to be in that 20% and figure if the big stuff is packed away and bugging me because it is taking up space that will be incentive to keep it off so I can get rid of it in 8 months time! I have a SIL that keeps asking me if I am getting rid of anything yet and a DS that is losing weight as well and will be fitting into my big clothes soon. Love the idea of sharing clothes...my favorite places to shop tend to be thrift/goodwill stores...clothes are expensive!

Being a man I don't become attached to my old ' BIG' clothes. They all went to the Salvation Army. Had to sneak some to the bottom of the stack so GLBH wouldn't see them and comment, why that's one I bought you,I always liked it so well. LOL Life is sure GREAT!

I had everything from sixes to twenty-twos. Already got rid of everything over a 10. As I maintain, I will get rid of those, too. Right now the sixes are getting kind of loose. We'll see where it stabilizes and get rid of what's too big. Always in the past I've kept the clothes. Not this time! I don't want it to be easy to get something else to wear. I'm tired of hauling them up and down from and to the basement.

Some Weight Watchers groups operate an informal clothes "swap". No matter how fat you were at the start, someone will be going through that size on the way down, and can't afford to buy temporary wardrobes. It's a way to cheer people on.

I am gradually getting rid of the biggest sizes, keeping things that still "reasonably" fit, but may be a little loose. And a couple of big sloppy sweaters for warmth as as "comfort clothes".

Unless I really, really love it... it's out of here!

This is a burning question in my mind. I got rid of clothes as they no longer fit. When I got where I wanted to be, I bought a new wardrobe. It's limited, but everything in my closet and bureau fit.

I thought it would help me not to have clothes to grow into.
