I know protein is important and I eat it every time I put a carb in my mouth, but.. Has anyone found a protein bar that really fills them up? They do nothing for me.

For years my food choices were dependant on hormones and blood sugar levels, in a constant cycle of 10lb weight shifts up/down from one year to the next. I was either very good or very bad, with no in between. I finally learned that protein with every meal completely removes any cravings for sugar, as something as simple as a banana breakfast would have me eating McDonalds at lunch. A food diary spelled out my habits pretty well.

Protein is the key for me, protein bars, slim fast drinks...

I still weigh myself every day but that is because I prefer finding myseld 1-2 lbs up than 5 lbs a week later. The sooner I know I am off track the sooner I am back on. Then I will never weigh 164 ever again :o)
I stopped weighing and measuring and just eyeballed my portions. I also allow myself desserts and occasional treats. It is satisfying to eat what I want (if not necessarily the portions) and not gain anything.

Looking for chat buddy to vent and be accountable to :o)

One thing I have changed is my daily weigh in habit. I know I fluctuate a pound or two so it's best for me to weigh in once a week now. I don't weight and measure everything like I used to.

For the first six months after I lost weight I spent a lot of time shopping and looking in the mirror, trying to get used to my new body. I felt really different and had trouble recognizing myself in the mirror. I'm getting over it now, although when the weather turned cold I had to go through my closet looking for things that aren't too big.

So much has changed and for the most part it was really slowly so I can hardly even remember. I really like to drink water now. I look forward to exercise now. I enjoy oatmeal. I drink milk now. I really enjoy fruits and veggies.

I only want to weigh when I think I'll like what I see, but that is several times a week usually. I'm still fairly nervous about gaining back weight. Even though I've been at a healthy BMI for 16 months and around my personal goal for the past 6 months, I always remember that I've gained 30-80 pounds back about 9 times in my life. Constant vigilance!

I am less obsessed with the scale and pay more attention to how I feel and the way my clothes fit.

Congratulations of making such a great start to maintenance.

I don't weigh myself nearly as often now and use the fit of clothes as a guide. I'm astonished that I'm now more concerned about losing too much weight rather than putting too much back on. Changed days indeed!

Interesting... I freak out over every pound, too. I've been thin all my life, but once I got to college and pounds started creeping up slowly, I started to explore anything and everything that would put me in control. I'm still exploring, but I'm in control now. I thought I was just psychotic, but maybe it's a good thing!

I have learned that thin people freak out over a few pounds and I am learning to do this too. I think it is a good thing; I feel I am finally thinking like a normal person. If I had freaked out before, I wouldn't have reached 210 pounds.

I am also more conscious of my BMR now and accept that without exercise my daily limit is 1400 calories but with exercise I am allowed to indulge myself.

I do still weigh daily and for me it keeps things from getting totally out of control. Mind you, this is just me.

It's amazing how apparent to me it is how I used food for comfort. Now that I'm at maintaining I really notice the sad days and the pms days. I would just cover them up with food. Now that isn't an option and I have to just feel these bad feelings some days. Its not fun but I've realized that is what thin healthy people do. I guess I have to suck it up and deal with my feelings :( . Its not that easy but spark helps :). I also noticed that those around me don't really like the new me all the time. I seem to take care of my appearance more at this weight. I do my hair and wear flattering clothes and it seems to intimidate some people. I want them to know its still me just healthier and happier. Any ideas on how to do that wisely?

Have a healthy day!

I weigh myself every morning, and write it down in my calendar. Since I am maintaining, it has no more emotional import than checking the oil and tire pressure on my motorcycle: it just tells me if I need to do anything. If I'm up (like now..I gained 3 pounds after a 3 week trip eating at restaurants every day) then I weigh and measure for the time it takes to get back down.

I think the big difference now is the absolute knowlege that I can control my weight with a little effort and no angst.

I'm still obessed w/ getting on the emoticon every day, but that's okay. It's a reminder how far I have come and my motivation!

I have not been weighing everything either, unless I have the opportunity, I do. If not, I don't panic about it. I have also found that I am MUCH better at estimating than I had been before!

I'm working on trusting my body to tell me what it wants, including when it comes to cheat meals. So if I want fruit, I eat fruit, and if I go out with friends and REALLY want the burger, I get the burger. I've found I rarely REALLY want the burger anymore -- a salad or fish is usually way more appetizing.

I am starting to feel less compulsive about measuring everything, and trusting my eyes. I know I have to measure from time to time to keep my eyeballing true, but I know that 1 or 2 extra cherries is not going to pack on the pounds.

I noticed now since I've been at goal for two months some new behaviors--one being I don't feel the NEED to weigh myself every day like when I was losing wt. --though It DID help me at the time!!! What behaviors--new or changed---do you notice happening since you reached your goal weight? emoticon
