Nell-I also find that fast on/fast off works with me. Thank Goodness!

I am always amazed at how fast weight comes off if I catch it immediately. I always gain 3 pounds when I go on vacation. Any vacation, any length of time. This last trip, however, was 2 1/2 weeks and it was FIVE pounds. Two pounds came off the next day, so it was water, and I have dropped the other three in one week of the same exchange plan I used years ago.

If I had waited for any reason, I don't think those 3 pounds would have fallen off in a week.

Does anyone else find that it is easy to lose that pound or two fast rather than put it off?

Nell

I'm doing better all the time, too. My weight goes up and down, but I don't worry about it. I just eat a bit less for a few days, and voila! all better again.

I am learning how to eat for maintenance and for health. I am up 1.6 pounds over goal but I am sure it will not stay long. I am still exercising regularly but also still need to get motivated to do weight work.

Good going, SBates. Glad you can do it even without the tracker!!

It is hard for me to decide if I want to try more intuitive eating (or Weight Watchers' Simply Filling) or continue tracking. Tracking works and it is a small price to pay really. However, it would be wonderful to have the freedom and to be so in tune with my body that I could control portions through monitoring satisfaction. Hmmmmm.

My Mom is here, and I rarely get to the computer. Serves to wean me off the nutrition tracker for a while. I had gotten so that not tracking was making me feel very guilthy and insecure. I am eating well right now, coupled with lots of exercise. I hope to get where I can track and measure sporidically without all the mental baggage.

I am still dealing with the need to eliminate chips (due to high sodium), ice cream and chocolates because all three make me just want more. There is no "enough" or "satisfied" with these.

I did do something last night that I need to do every night. I tend to graze starting in mid to late afternoon. Last night after my dinner and some fruit for a snack, I still wanted to eat. So I had a piece of homemade whole grain toast with some no-fat peanut butter. I stayed so full for so long with it that I didn't even want any more to eat. Toast and PB is my new best food friend.

Got on the "bad thing" in the bathroom this morning, and all was OK. I haven't lost any weight, but I haven't gained any either. What do you expect? I have been exercising a lot, but eating ice cream on a daily basis. Once my company is gone next week, I am going to hunker down and start eating better again. But ice cream (frozen yogurt in ice creamy flavours, actually) is good when it's so hot out.

I am still in my maintenance range after coming home from a 10 day vacation to Pa. Dutch country! I even had ice cream 3 times while away. I am so happy I didn't gain above my range. I had in fact lost a pound when I weighed myself Sunday morning. It's good to be back home and back to Curves. We are having pizza for supper tonight, but I am counting it all in according to my WW points allowance.

Have to take Thor to the vet at 4:30 for his blood sugar. It's been 3 weeks already.Last time it was too low again. Hope his numbers will be better today. He'll be blogging later tonight. emoticon

Remember that posed shots are just that: posed. My sister went to modelling school back when she was too young to know better. They made here stand in the most awful positions, and use clothespins to make the clothes look perfect.

And that was before Photoshop. You can bet that the pics in magazines are touched up. Not the bodies necessarily, but no slips will show, the pants will be exactly the same length, the hair will look good, and her skin will look great.

And everyone looks better when they are happy.

When looking at others, think about what they are wearing and where your eye goes first. There are tricks to dressing that accentuate the best body parts while making the not-so-great parts look their very best. Just putting on a structured jacket and buttoning it makes anyone look so much better. Also things that fit without being too larger or too tight anywhere make you look the best. Anyone putting out photos is going the pick the very best ones.

Just a case in point--has anyone ever gone to Glamour Shots? They really do make your photos look fabulous.

Sullis, I was just wondering the same thing. Did you ever notice that you look different in pics than you do in the mirror? I think I will get hubby to take a picture of me in my skivvies on the digital camera, and take a good look at myself from another perspective. I think my profile pic looks pretty good, but I don't believe in my head that I look like that.

I saw some pics in a magazine the other day - readers who had sent in pics of their transformations. Most weighed within 5# of where I do, but WOW did they look good. I'm wondering if it's all the extra work they are doing - or if I'm spending my time on the wrong things - or maybe a bit of both.

Confidence is soooooo hard to pull off consistently.
I can say I'm comfortable where I'm at - but I'm not confident about how I look all of the time. I try to remind myself what I've accomplished - but sometimes I'd rather look like the pictures in the magazines!

That is the hard thing, being content with a weight we are comfortable with, that is in the healthy range. It is hard to be confident enough, especially as a woman, to ignore all the messages we get on what we should look like, dress like and act like. I succeed most of the time, but not always. I can feel like a million bucks one day, and like a dollar and a half the next and for no real reason I can determine.

18 - that was a great year! Though I'm not sure I would want to try it again!

I think I read a gazillion articles about ideal weight - and I'm still not sure I have it pegged right. But I'm comfortable where I'm at, at the size I'm at, and the level I have to work to keep there.

I always laugh at that formula. It would make my proper weight 120, since I'm 5'4" and of an average frame. I would be skeletal at that weight because I am so muscular. I am about 147 right now, and probably could be 140 or so, but would have to work at it every moment. I was 135 a few years ago, and it was pretty thin for me.

Did anyone read the Spark article about setting a goal? They said that the old way that I remember is still in use some places: 100 pounds for 5 feet in height, plus 5 pounds for every inch above 5 feet. Then you subtract 10% for a small frame, or add 10% for a large frame. That would make my small boned 5'4" goal at 108 pounds, and the old maintenance range would be 106-110.

BMI is easier!

Stephanie, can you really have eaten 3500 EXTRA calories every day for 5 days? Of course not. You'd have a hard time eating that much extra for one day. One pound of water, however, is about 20 ounces, a much more reasonable explanation.

My scale says I gained 5 pounds in 5 days. A bit drastic, don't you think. I will discount that weigh in, change the battery in the thing for the first time in 2 years, and call myself a maintainer. I am 5'4", about 147lbs, and firmly a size 8 or 10. I would like to lose a bit more around the middle, but I am happy with the new me. I keep forgetting that I am not 26, but 46 years old, and am too hard on myself.

I kind of bounce around within a 3 pound range, all well below my 1970 goal, but when I see a lower number on the scale my mind seizes on it and says "Yes! That should be my new goal." So goal has crept lower over the years. I am 5'4", and when I was 21 the WW goal range was 114 to 137. I chose 114. I have been 7 or 8 pounds below that for the last 6 months. And as I age (I'm 61) it requires eating less and less to maintain a very low weight. I do love being very thin, but it is so hard to maintain. I'm not sure how wise it is to have a very low goal.

Without any conscious change, in June I moved down to 142. God is good - and I want to keep making wise choices to be my best for Him! (hubby enjoys the new me, too! lol)

I anticipated gaining weight while I was out of town. I did eat a piece of carrot cake on my birthday, a small piece. Despite it all, my weight did not change, so I am still at goal and maintaining. :-) I will not do my official weigh-in until later in the month, but I trust my own scale. LOL

Reached my goal November 2009!

Weight Watchers worked for me and now I work for Weight Watchers.

I figure if I stay within 3 pounds of my goal, I am successfully maintaining. Got my sons wedding in August, so now's NOT the time to let all my hard work slide!

Four months after reaching goal, I'm still drifting downward slightly. About two more pounds during June. So now I'm about 7 pounds under goal, but still well within healthy BMI range, so YES!

emoticon emoticon Cheers for all my fellow maintainers!

Keeping steady at 120lb since January after reaching my goal of 126lb last September.

I still can't believe that I'm keeping a stable level.

I weighed in at weight watchers this morning and was within 2 pounds of my goal weight. To be precise I was one pound over my goal weight. This is my 7 th month of maintaining my weight loss of 72 pounds.

I guess I'm maintaining, but still above my goal range. I can get down in it briefly, then it bounces back up again. I'm just going to keep eating healthy food, and working out, and see if I can't start to level off again.

highest weight ever:202, SP starting weight: 143

New goal: more practical new goal, 129, update ticker to reflect that goal.

I am up a few pounds but I am trying to adjust my eating as I increase my running mileage. My metabolism is getting wonky and I am hungry all the time. Stay tuned...

I'm not at goal, but I am maintaining -- I go up and down two or so pounds, but can't get back to my goal weight of about one year ago. I could move my goal up, but then I am afraid I would keep moving it up with bad results. So I will just keep my eye on my current goal and take action.
