I love spark too! But, I don't like calorie counting, blah!

Because I'm watching what I'm eating, and running, there can be several days in a row where I'm going into the next day with a 500-2000 calorie deficit, the basic math states that I should have lost two pounds in the last two weeks, and I did lose one pound and then found it again. I took having lost it for two consequitive days as real loss and although I didn't do anything to deserve it, I gained it back again. I refuse to put it back on my ticker.

Through learning to stop my binging cycle my new normal weight is 3-5lb less, but with an additional 4lb gone I lose the smooshy around my waist and hips. I did think at the time that all those ice cream sandwiches and McDonalds lunches were worth it, little did I know how long it would take to get it off again.

I have a three day stage race coming up in the middle of next month (50k, 50mi, 20k), a few weeks later I have a 44mi, and a few weeks after that I have (my first) 100k. Squats, lunges and planks are the key for me, replace the smoosh with a layer of muscle.

Hello team. Well I've been maintaining for 10 weeks. I'm still working on my emotional eating when it pops up. I find that when I deal with things as they come up and get to the root of the problem I'm better off. I now have more days on plan than not. And when I do go overboard I dust myself off and try again.

Way to get back on track, Irene! I'll be on a trip next month in a place where I'll fear both the food and the water. If anyone has advice for surviving Indonesia without GI distress, let me know!

I was away for 5 days . The hotel meals were not ones I would usually eat but I chose the lightest option every time, I was shocked to find I had gained 3 lbs but I know it's only temporary , it was right back to my healthy eating plan as soon as I was home. I had planned to step up my exercise minutes but I returned home a bit heavier and suffering from a bronchial cold. So my exercise is basic only for now. I tell myself This too shall Pass! emoticon

Yes, your plan sounds healthy.

Today for my exercise: 30" of walking, 30" of treadclimer, 10" setups this = 425 calories burned

Karen, I too at 54 have a hard time doing more than 60 minutes on more that two days a week. I can do it once or twice, but I prefer to evenly space out my workouts. My back suffers if I do too much. I have found that I don't have to lower my food intake by a whole lot to make up for it, though I wasn't trying to work out 120 minutes each time! That's a lot! And for me it's not sustainable, which is important when we're maintaining.

It's awkward to say this but I'm trying to gain a couple of pounds (muscle weight?) as I'm not comfy at 158. At 6 ft tall, I like 162.5 as my max with a 21.98 BMI. Craziness! BUT it tells me a lot about myself and that's a good thing! I've maintained my weight now to the point where I can do this healthily and according to my run activity. Through all of this, I've enjoyed my normal eating routine.

I reached a birthday and maintenance anniversary on Sunday, and am fighting binges. I gained a few pounds over the weekend, though I'm losing it already. I didn't even track my weight because I was sure it would go back down after the weekend passed. I hate when I record my weight fluctuations and then SP congratulates me on losing the same pounds over and over again, so I'm going to not record every up and down.

Leslie, I looked at your profile pic and I see that you've come a long way, and I can't imagine that you were comfortable in your skin before. I imagine someone who was self-concious and who often felt out of control, as opposed to the person you are now that is admired by people.

I'm not going to try to analyze you because clearly I don't have the skillset, but your post makes me wonder whether your career is fulfilling enough or there's something in your life where you're missing the praise (for lack of a better word) that you seek. Maybe even a volunteering activity where an elderly person is dependent on you and appreciative of you, I don't know, just a thought.

You look great and people aren't going to continue to tell you that they do, just like supermodels don't get told they're beautiful every day, people realize you know that you look great and don't need to hear it. You're one of the skinny kids after all.

Way to go, Celia!

I've been back on track for 48 hours and it feels good. I hate the feeling of being out of control. I'd like to be able to remember that when I'm tempted to cut loose and binge.

Today, I have a pizza lunch date with friends, we will be admiring their Model ‘T’ and its recent paint job. She made a request for sausage pizza so I checked on ordering the family size and a small combo. So today is my day of rest.

Thank you all so much for the recognition and goodies for my birthday and maintenance anniversary. You may see though that my anniversary is really on Jan 8 and I've already celebrated this once. Something got mixed up in the records of when I started. I'm not sure how to fix it.

I'm working today on breaking off from the sweets I indulged in for three days around my birthday. I am seeing that I was having a feeling of "I deserve to have my favorite sweets this weekend" attitude. Now I got it out of my system and want to move on.

Is it part of a normal cycle of eating and cravings to not want sweets for a long stretch of time, then want them, eat them and then feel satisfied, and go on to another stretch of not wanting them?

Leslie, hope you get better sleep tonight. Sounds like you need some serious pampering time.

Getting back on track after the weekend at the ashram. The food may have been vegetarian/vegan, but it was not all low-calorie, and I ate far too much of it.

Today I am Tired of this. Actually I have been tired of this since December, but today I am also fighting a restless night with not enough sleep. Maintenance is truly so much more of a challenge than the trip down. Everyone has stopped commenting on my weight loss again, I am just Me now, the thinner person. I suppose I should do something motivating like take some new pictures of myself in some of my smaller clothes and replace the ones from a year ago that are on my sparkpage. Just leave the other one from 2004 when I weighed what I do now, and a new one. But I am Tired

It's never over

Wow, Gen, it's hard to believe the weight hasn't come off with all your running and the strict attention you have to pay to nutrition for that activity. I like your idea of not looking at the scale so often. Is the weight you gained mostly muscle?

Although I don't come on here very often, I know when I do I'm going to find people keeping on track, and it always motivates me to do the same. Karen, everyone has their ups and downs, you'll get there - we have faith in you.

I commented around 4-5 months ago that I was happy to have gained 5lb, because I learned a valuable lesson to what could prevent my binge eating. Here we are now and I still haven't lost the weight. My husband was out of town all last week and I strictly controlled my calories and by the end of the week I eagerly stand on the scales and --- nothing. Then I run 30 miles on Saturday and by Sunday --- nothing. I run 15 miles on Sunday --- nothing. And now here we are on Monday morning, and typically I would add calories back and snack more, but I have to remind myself that I've followed that pattern for months and instead i need to continue to restrict calories in order to get my weight down a few pounds and more importantly my body fat percentage. (don't worry, my definition of 'restrict calories' is different on days I run that long).

At my gym a number of years ago they had a group weight loss challenge with a personal trainer. For six weeks I continued with my running, but added weight training 3x a week and stuck to rigid calorie counting the entiire time, and it wasn't until the final weigh in that I lost 4lb that one week. I have a tendency to think that if I wake up hungry, the scale should reward me, so in reality I should not look at the scale so often!

Self-respect...You can do it! I am learning that I over-think working out and often give myself too many excuses and end up not doing anything. I'm finding the best thing I can do for myself is just dive in when I find an opportunity. (when I wake up while I'm still in bed I think of what workout would work for me that day, since walking depends on the weather for me; if it's nasty out I think about which DVD I want to do. but sometimes when it gets to the time to do it, I change my mind which one I will do.) I don't do well with having a set schedule for workouts, planned out a week in advance. Maybe I'll try that again. I only work 8 hours a week and have so much flexibility to my schedule that I can't even call it a schedule. So scheduling workouts isn't my style.

I haven't been sticking to my exercise routine and it shows and I can feel it. Promising myself to get back on board with it this morning and going forward.

I believe in myself, I am a strong woman. I will reach my goals, NOTHING & NOBODY will hold me down. I will live my life with integrity and intention. I will set a good example for my daughters and my son. I will be a woman that makes my grand children proud when they look at pictures of me long after I've left this earth.

Actually the cupcakes didn't taste so good. She uses coconut oil in the frosting and cake and I made myself politely eat one mini cupcake. I do not like the flavor of coconut oil. She knows that but she did it because she makes vegan, gluten free food.

Didn't break my binge-free streak of 8 days. On to day 9!

Made it a week without a binge. No urges today. I am having a decent day. Got myself to work out this morning, which I'm finding hard to do while having company. Tonight is my granddaughter's 2nd birthday party. My daughter makes vegan and gluten free cupcakes and they're pretty good. But knowing they're not so bad for me makes me want them less!

My initial goal weight was 170. I hit that in May 2011. Since then, I've totally embraced the lifestyle (yes, that's the secret to success!), become addicted to running (in a healthy way), strengthened lean muscle, and am now in the 162-165 zone.
emoticon
My maintaining has become second nature. Mentally, I focus and surround myself in positivity. I do not tolerate negativity in myself and those in my circle of influence. IF I do experience a "momentary lapse of reason," I try to pull myself back in and vent through exercise, running, and fun activity! I've blogged when these times occur to emphasize life's challenges! NO excuses. I take leadership seriously and focus on leading by example first. I expect it from other leaders.
emoticon
Simply put, and to steal a catch phrase, "That's how we roll in the shire!" Stay strong, focused, and be well!

Today is mom’s weekly lunch date, so DH and I will be dining at a local restaurant. I will “pick my meal wisely” then head to the mall with my $10 coupon. Love those coupons that make you go to the store, this pays for the gas getting me to town. Not sure what to buy but a REWARD for myself is do. Another pound down!!!!

TOHIKEAPTRAIL~~ bring on the soft foods and best wishes emoticon

Lori ~~ I'm looking forward in reading your blogs, thanks for sharing emoticon

I need to eat soft food for two to three weeks due to dental work. I could use encouragement to eat as healthy as I can until my dental work is completed.

I am going to write a blog about how I handled a binge urge yesterday.

I have another day with weighing the same. I am still hoping that avoiding the binges (day 7 today) will result in at least a few pound loss.

Today I have a 120" cardio SP Challenge and have completed 50"... so I WILL accomplish this .

I'm down AGAIN and 10lbs to goal weight; it's been 10+ years since I've weighed this, my smaller pants are almost on.

Lorelee ~~ keep us informed how you are doing and overcoming the binges
Best Wishes

Weighed the exact same three days in a row. That is unheard of for me. I usually have fluctuations each day. I've learned to accept that as my normal. Now to get down to my mid-point of my maintenance range. A couple of pounds over actual goal weight doesn't really bother me. Weight is no longer my focus but working on overcoming binges is. I feel that if I can overcome that I will have little problem maintaining.

Getting rid of the weight put on with a couple of binges last week. Have had 3.5 days now without a binge. I'm on the right track. Sparking right now because I'm having urges to binge, but I CAN DO IT!

Thanks, Karen and Lori! Made it through last night with no snacking after dinner, but I seem to do better when DH is home. The test will be when he leaves on his next trip. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Got lots of exercise yesterday. Today is a rest day, though I think I'll take a walk. Need to keep getting those steps! (made it through the day without a binge)

Celia, I also have problems with a habit, though mine is of returning to binges. Seems they happen every 4-5 days. I'm working on streaks, made 18 days of no binges, then I've not had better than 6 days since. Today I'm starting a new streak. Maybe my reward system isn't working as well as it did at first. Time to revamp it!

Did better last night at stopping myself when I realized I was munching mindlessly. This was a hard habit to break during the weight loss phase, and such an easy one to resume. Gotta stop it!

I don't think we will watch all of the SuperBowl today. Not very interested in either team. We did all our partying yesterday. Had SuperBowl food yesterday. I hope everyone who parties has their minds set on being kind to their body and not creating guilt and remorse over poor food choices. I know I didn't do so well with that yesterday and didn't enjoy the time with family because I was consumed with consuming junk. I used food as a distraction from the stress I was feeling from being in a crowd.

Morning SP ladies,
Happy Super Bowl Sunday, enjoy your day with lots of veggies.

I will be watching the game for the commercials and chips; plan on doing a few setups and squats during half-time.
