I met my goal in the beginning of September and I told myself I wanted to keep tracking my food for a while just to be safe. I think I only ended up tracking for 2 weeks after I reached my goal. I've been doing good ever since. I'm so glad I don't have to track anymore, I knew I couldn't do it for the rest of my life. Now I know what works and what doesn't.

I met goal in August, but I am still tracking. I pretty much know how much food I can eat, but I still feel like I need to keep the level of control pretty high. When I feel comfortable enough that I will continue to maintain my weight, I'll try stopping.

I stopped tracking 2 months or so ago for the most part and am doing good with it. I track a day or two per week or if I add something new to the menu. I am like Bethany and eat the same 2-3 breakfasts and 3-4 different lunches. Some think its boring, but I know what the counts are for those meals and it leaves me open to add a bit to dinner. I have also lost the couple of pounds that I wanted to.

I only reached my goal last week but I think I will continue tracking for a while. I don't think I actually need to, though. I eat the same breakfast and lunch most days, have a couple of snacks that are about 100 calories each, and try to follow the "bikini diet" idea for dinner. This pretty much guarantees that I will stay in my calorie range. I might not track everything from now on, but I will try to track indulgences to make sure I don't go overboard.

I've been maintaining since March and I did fall off the wagon (not tracking) and paid the price, I put on 7 pounds.
I don't think my guesstimating skills are as good as I'd hoped so I shall carry on tracking.

I think I am afriad of not tracking me calories and expercise. I am so excited about my progress and fear that if I didn't track, I would allow myself to cheat more. Looking for a way to make it automatic, as I have become dependent on the accountability of tracking.

I've been maintaining for almost 2 years now and just 2 months ago stopped tracking. I've stopped before and my weight crept up to my "trigger weight" so I tracked for a month this summer. I weigh daily, so I can go back to it if I need to, but now I consider it 'punishment' for straying away from a healthy lifestyle.

Best of luck to you on your maintenance journey!

I hit Maintenance in May and I still track and log in daily. I have decided to keep it up for 1 year. I have quit measuring everything and try to keep portions on my own. I do weigh and measure once a week to keep myself honest.

I have been tossing this around for the last couple of weeks..sometimes I can calculate in my head the calories when I eat very familiar meals..I follow the core plan with WW so we never had to track food on core only NON food items. I have been tracking on sparks for over a year but sometimes I feel obessive about knowing sometimes I think people think I am crazy knowing my calories, protein ect per day..I consdier myself an athlete now as well so somedays yes I need to know where I am with carbs and protein.

I'm continuing to track because I'm trying to expand my food base. I was eating healthy, well balanced meals but was getting bored with the same entrιes and side dishes. I need to be careful as I step out of my "comfort zone" of familiar foods.

As for the late night cravings for something sweet; I like to add a couple squirts of Starbucks sugar free hazelnut syrup to a cup of decaf coffee ... it's sweet, and has no calories, carbs, fats or protein ... just 25 sodium. It's not a nightly thing, and on the occasions when I do indulge it doesn't cost me anything.

I have been maintaining since June. I find that I need to track everything everyday. I track calories, a few key vitamins along with exchanges as I struggle most with eating too many starchy things and not enough veggies and fruit. Checking the exchanges before an unplanned snack helps me make an "informed" decision. I can choose to stick with what I am short on (fruit and veg) or go ahead and eat whatever else I am thinking of. Also, just knowing I am going to write it and check off the exchange boxes helps me think twice.

Lately I am really struggling with night time cravings for sweet bready snacks... Tough to resist. Have put on some weight and am really trying to regain control. I am trying to make sure I have eaten enough during the day so that I am not too hungry, but those cravings are still getting me! Sometimes if I exercise in the evening, then have a bunch of water it helps... That is what I am trying this week.

The belief that everything should be done perfectly or not at all is the enemy of consistency and momentum.

I have been weaning off tracking for the last few months and I was still losing regularly and appropriately. Now that I am in maintainance, I think I will try to track once or twice a week to keep myself accountable and I will definitely start tracking if I gain any weight. I feel like I have learned to eat the appropriate amount of food for me. I have learned what "full" should actually feel like and I have stopped eating out of boredom (used to be a big problem for me). I have also been pretty successful at portion control, though I will probably always measure foods that I have a hard time estimating (cereal, pasta, oil and salad dressing, cheese, etc.). I like not tracking all the time. It makes it easier when my husband and I create new recipes (which we do a lot). Good luck to you in maintenance.

One day a few months ago I just woke up and felt done with tracking. I'm still tracking fruits N vegies but nothing else. The system has it's ups and downs.

I've been maintaining since June and am still tracking. I like trying new foods and broadening my food base but don't want to lose sight of my calories and nutrients. I wouldn't have to track if I ate the same things day in and day out, but I don't. I have built such a large date base of foods that tracking isn't really cumbersome, so why stop?

I have been in maintainence for several months now and with the exception of a few days here and there I still track pretty much everything. I don't get crazy over it though, if I forget to track something I don't go back and put it in, but it helps me to keep up with what I've been doing for so long. Hopefully there'll come a day when I feel comfortable not tracking and trying to do it naturally.

I have been maintaining since June, and I do still track. I am too afraid I will gain if I stop at this point. I mostly track in my head, so I could probably eventually quit tracking otherwise when I get the nerve.

I've been on maintenance for 3 months and have continued to track daily. I don't know when I'll be brave enough to go by instinct (I think my instinct is what got me into trouble in the first place).

I'm a numbers person anyway, so it's not an obsession, just an enjoyable accounting.

It's not just for the calories, but for specific nutrients as well, like Vitamins C, D, and calcium.

I stopped tracking about a month ago. I'd been at goal since the end of June, and had gotten to a point where I was fairly easily maintaining. I knew how to eat to be in my maintenance range.

If my weight goes more than 3 pounds either way from my goal weight, I plan to start tracking again until I'm back at goal.

I am a MARATHONER!!!
Tacoma City Marathon (3 May 09) - 3:49:13
... and I'm BOSTON BOUND!!!!
Capital City Marathon (16 May 10) - 3:36:52

...and instead of running Boston, I had a kid! And then 2.5 years later I had another one.
BUT, I've never stopped running or racing!

One of these days, I'll re-qualify for Boston. And tackle Goofy's Race and a Half. Maybe an ultra. Or a half Ironman...

Funny that you ask. I just started not tracking last week. I have been maintaining for 2 years in December. I just seemed to be really focusing/obsessing on food and it was becoming a very unhealthy relationship. I am still measuring and will do so with trigger foods like cereal, cheese, pasta, bacon bits and salad dressing, ice cream & sweets or fatty meats. I am not sure that part will leave me knowing that it is part of what led me to my weight gain. I did enter my food for yesterday to see if I was doing as well as I thought and will probably do that ocassionally to make sure. I feel so much better not obsessing over what number I am at for the day and how much protein do I need. I really only think of food now when my stomach growls. I weigh myself daily and if need be I will go back to tracking since it is quite useful as a tool. But not so much as a lifestyle for me right now. I feel like it is time to pull out the crutch and put all I have learned into use. Time to stand on the solid base I have created!

Hope this helps you.

I am curious... tracking calories really helped me to take control of my weight, and yet it's becoming cumbersome to have to weigh and measure everything that I eat.

I am wondering... does anyone only track if they start gaining a little? Is anyone looking forward to (or already practicing) just eating "naturally" and healthfully, and maintaining without needing a written record? What are your thoughts on the subject?
