As far as tips, exercise on a regular basis has been key. I do at least an hour a day, most days.

I don't get a lot of points a day because I'm 51 and only 5' tall, so I make sure to get in my healthy guidelines first, and save my treats for last. So, I make sure I get my 2 oils in before I reach for that Peanut Butter Bliss Bar.

I also weigh in every single week that I'm able to and stay for the WW meetings. It really keeps me accountable.

I'm lucky to have a very supportive hubby also:)

I have been busy and mostly posting in my blog, but here I am. I had nearly a 2lb gain in my second week of maintenance and although in range, I didn't like it. Still I accepted it and continued on, hoping that this week will be better. It was one night out and skipping an exercise session and that was all it took, the calorie intake was only 20 cals more per day compared to the one on the first week when the scales didn't move. This week might not be better, I have a dear friend visiting and there is the danger of eating more and more yummy. Still logging everything so feeling comfortable and not so scared.

I'm celebrating one month at goal as of yesterday. I'm still fine tuning my maintenance plan, playing around with how many calories I can safely eat. I haven't made any changes to my exercise plan since it seems to be working for me. I lost another inch off my waist this past month even though my weight stayed the same. I can't complain about that.

Claudia, lots of us decided to lose more after hitting our initial goal weight, and some of us just naturally lost more trying to figure out how much we needed to do to maintain. It's OK to stay where you are and see if that is comfortable for you and then to decide later that you want to go farther and lose a few more. I've adjusted my goal weight quite a few times, and I'm not sure I'm committed to where I am now, although it feels right to me, so I'll probably stay here, at least for a while.

Hi everybody, have been busy with annual check ups and school holidays at the cattery so I haven't showed up in this forum for a while. Have been doing my blog and logging everything and I'm in my second week of maintenance, so far so good. I have been thinking of loosing more weight, my poor body image still tells me that there is room for improvement. Will have to think about it. Wouldn't it be more reasonable to see if I can maintain this weight without heartache? What do you all think?

Could it mean that you need more calories what with all the exercise you're getting? I know that lots of people have mentioned this as a reason for a plateau.

I am in the same boat with the gain of a few pounds despite all the running. I don't know for sure that it's bad weight- it could be extra fluid retention in the liver or muscles, or some muscle gain, so I decided to throw out my scale and not worry about it.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
I'M STUCK!!!!!!! emoticon
I am stuck on 120.2 for almost 2 weeks..even after racing on Saturday for a total of almost 9 miles I never even lost an ounce.
I so want to be at the lower end of my maintenance but my body seems stuck
I have taken some drastic cuts in my cals and I don't seem to even lose an ounce
This is beyond frustration
I am about to pull my hair out..
help!!!

I was just kinda doing my thing and when I looked at my documents last week I found out to my shock that I have been on maintaince for 1 year. It has creeped quietly past me without me seeing it, darn! Well to celebrate I purchased a new fitness bag for my gear, I had to do something to celebrate it!?!

Hang in there Donkey! There is definitely a way past your plateau if you can just figure out the root problem. Do you think you might have accidentally cut TOO many calories? (Or possibly the wrong kind?) If your body thinks you are in danger of starvation, it will store fat instead of shedding fat. So in other words, if you suddenly cut your calories drastically because you wanted to lose that extra weight, your body may have slowed down its metabolism to protect you. The right approach now might be to try to stabilize where you are, and THEN take the extra weight off slowly.

Or maybe you cut all your protein calories but none of your carbs, so the diet is unbalanced? That could be another thing to check. Do you have a doctor that could help you figure it out?

I was creeping out of my comfort zone in March, and although it didn't ever stay up for more than a day or 2, it was a warning to me that I was slacking. I joined the clean eating team, and started really watching my labels, I'm really trying my best to avoid the high fructose corn syrup and the hydrogenated fats, and I have gone back into range, and actually started the month at the bottom end of my goal weight range!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Today was my weigh-in day after my first week on maintenance, it went so slow and I felt nervous all the time, but the weight was exactly the same and I'm very happy about it because I ate a bit more, had two lunches out and disaster night of chocolate that I don't normally eat because I can't stop. I logged everything I ate and it turned out an average of 1660 cals a day with exercise every second day. So that must be what I have to do. Very relieved.

I really don't have a secret...staying focused is what works for me. I have to be mindful every day and sometimes it's hard! I have noticed again and again how easy it can be to fall back into old habits and patterns.

I'm above my desired maintenance range by 4 lbs....and I do believe I know where it's coming from. I am pretty frustrated with myself. I maintained pretty well through the Winter, but the lbs have been creeping up for the last month or so. Hubby keeps telling me, 'once you get outside and start running hills again, you'll drop that weight no problem, you'll be much more active when the weather improves'. OK, but I don't want to be dependent on the outside to keep me happy and healthy on the inside. ARGH! I can't seem to stay away from the junky sweets and altho I have been doing just great on the fitness side of things I have no self-control on the nutrition side of things. Double ARGH!
I do believe maintaining can be just as challenging as losing and sometimes more difficult.

So what is your secret? How come I could maintain for 3 months but couldn't keep it up for longer than that?

Now I have weight to lose before I can maintain again!

Today is my 1 month anniversary of reaching goal - and I'm maintaining! I'm still not reaching the bottom of my nutritional range - calorie wise on a consistent basis... But, maybe that's ok, don't know... I keep trying

Can't believe I've been maintaining for 6 months now! Still getting used to it, that's for sure!

I got down to 3 pounds below goal in January, but am now at about 4 pounds over. So, I'm still at the top of my maintenance range, but if I start seriously training for that 5K coming up, and the 7K in June, I think the "extra" pounds will come off pretty much on their own. Oh, and if I stop eating one too many of these yummy granola bars I've been making!

Well it has been 4 months of maintenance for me. I still struggle but know this is part of the journey.


Starting Weight: 235 on 01/01/07

Achieved Goal Weight: 140 on 11/29/07

Maintenance Weight Range: 138 to 143

According to my new, non-weight-based definition, I am at goal and maintaining! I have been tempted a few times to get the scale out, but I resisted.

Well I'm at my maintenance range and feel pretty good. Still I can't seem to get past feeling consumed on the days when I am over where I want to be.
I hate that the scale decides my day ...and yet if I didn't weigh, I'd be even more consumed I guess.
It seems to me, a bit unfair, that yes, maintaining is a constant vigilence. I just read an article here about eating habits and they claim that it's false, in order to lose weight you have to be willing to be somewhat hungry most of the time.
What do you all think? I think, for me anyway, it's true..I just accept it.
Because I still don't eat breakfast..except a banana and a huge salad at lunch, with almost no dressing..mostly greens and veggies, and then a small dinner......now I do eat some sweets too, but nothing really huge....
Anyway, I have been maintaining now since the end of Oct-beginning Nov, so I guess I'm still a rookie?

After maintaining for 3 months, I totally fell off the maintenance wagon in March when I decided -- ironically enough -- that I wanted to lose more weight. Instead of staying within my maintenance range of 127-132, I shot up to 139.5!

Today I am down to 135.5 which is still not in maintenance range.

I maintain already 3 years and 268 days.

I still don't see any difference between losing the weight and maintaining, but I do have patience... (...smile...).
In order to stay at goal I still have to do everything I've done to lose the weight.

Maintenance for life!!!
