Yes! I have had a hectic month and got really stressed out over a second master's program I began March 3rd. I will have doubles going on until the end of April. I have kept on target with exercise and am trying not to let my anxiety prompt me to eat...biked 45 miles today on our tandem with DH so got today's exercise taken care of.

Yes, but I saw a weight on the scale this morning that had not been there for a LONG time, so I must immediately reign in the bad stuff (I know I am eating too many sweets) and get back on track!!

Hello to everyone, I reached my goal and I'm very nervous about maintaining. Never been over 10 Kg (22 P) above my reasonable weight, and this time it was 8.5 kg (18.5p). I thought I could never loose weight again but here I am. Although they changed my calorie range, each time I eat a bit more or more interesting I fear that I will put on weight again. It is so tedious to still be dealing with this issues at this age. They must be very deep fears.

Hi, all!

I had reached my weight goal at the beginning of March, but I have added a few pounds back trying to figure out my Maintenance Numbers - obviously they were off... LOL

My Maintenance Weight Range is 122 - 126 lbs, meaning that I want to keep it down to 124 but I would allow myself to go up to 128 lbs, especially during my "experiments" with calories/exercise balance.

I am now almost back to where I was, so I thought I should come back to the team and get involved in discussions.

I agree that the 2 pound range that WW and other people us is a bit restricting but overall I think that it is good because it also acts as a reminder to get back to basics if you go over that 2 pound mark. Plus it is easier to lose 2 pounds than 5.

I hit the 3 pound over point today so I am refocusing on the basics and tracking again (something that has fallen by the wayside lately). It seems to be easier to stay at 2 pounds over than it is to stay at my goal weight. Maybe I am eating a few too many small treats? Having my family over for the Easter weekend is what did me in since they love to have all the sweets so there was alot of temptation. I will have to work harder next time not to give in to the temptation as easily.

Thanks Sparkpeople! I could never have made it without this website and all the people I have met through this site!

Hi All...
It's getting to be super sunny here in SoCal...
I guess I am becoming more at ease with maintaining, although it still can bring me angst. It occurs to me that I think without realizing it, I have arrived.
By that I mean, I think all this time that I feel on edge, it's really just being cautious and I need to recognize more that I AM MAINTAINING...I don't know...
I am trying to find an amount of time gone by, so I can truly say that I'm doing it..and WILL do it...
so as much as I am cautious I also know that in essence, with vigilence, I can continue to do so.
Now that the marathon training is over, I'm still running 5x per week...I ran 10 miles on Sat and 8 miles on Sunday..the rest of the week is only 5 miles, but I think it's enough...
Hope all survived Easter..as I have no family really...
there was no BIG dinner to contend with...
Best to all of you
Cathy

I'm right there with you Mimi! Just at the top of my range, and trying to really watch it to get back toward the mid/lower end. I'm really more comfortable there, but don't freak out if I creep a little higher. I just see it as a guide to really clean up my habits, and get back on track.

I don't do WW, but the idea is similar, so I know what you are talking about.

I'm so glad I've learnt here about the 5 pounds range.
The 2 pounds range of WW was too restiricting for me so I switched to the 5 pounds range and it's wonderful!
I'm now on the upper range so it's time to go to basics and get back to the lower range.

Another idea that I like a lot is the "Red line".
In the 5 pounds range I put a "red line" on 3 pounds above goal.
This is a warning signal for me to watch better my eating habits and exercise routine and to go back to my lower range again.

Did you know that WW international in England does follow the 5 pounds maintenance range? (only if someone is more than 5 pounds above their goal weight has to pay).

Mimi

emoticon I'm smiling today at the thought of the kitties who are joining their humans in living healthier lifestyles! Elaine, your exercise program with the feather toy sounds like fun and a great workout!

I'm 1/4 Irish and will be wearing green tomorrow. I teach the first day of a week-long cross-cultural workshop at the language school, so I may take a few minutes to talk about the holiday, and the general importance of holidays in a country's culture.

I won't be drinking green beer (or any color beer for that matter)!

Our cats are also currently watching their weight, Elaine. They haven't noticed yet.

I am not even the slightest bit Irish and yet I grew up in MA! The city of Boston has a holiday on March 17, called Evacuation Day... the day the British left the city. I call it "the day the city legitimizes getting very drunk."

Do what you can, Elaine, and have fun with your kitty!

Not a bit of Irish in me, but I'll put on some green on Monday anyway. No real plans for the weekend, although I may work on my taxes.

I'm a little above my goal, so I really have to start watching it. I feel like I get plenty of exercise, but my sleep has been off lately (time change adjustment) and I'm not eating very well. Too much, too late in the evening. Even though my choices are not "bad" for the most part, I think I'm just eating too much!

Hi everyone. Just thought I'd check in tonight.
I'm doing good today. I even played with my kitty Thor tonight. He loves to chase this feather thing on a string, so I was doing marching steps and walking steps for the whole 5 minutes I played with him. We were all over the living room/kitchen area. I was a little short of breath when we were done, but I'm fine now. He got his exercise too. He weighs about 19 pounds, and I'm killing him with kindness, so no more. I'm am cutting his food back little by little. We're slowly going from 1 cup of dry weight loss food to 3/4 cup eventually. I just started this yesterday with him. I told him he's not getting food every time he goes to his bowl! Mommie is rationing it out in small bits throughout the day. He gets a full 1/4 cup in the morning to start his day since he's had nothing all night. Kinda sounds like me with breakfast!

I'm staying within my points and am feeling good. Think I'll clean the bedroom tomorrow to get some more exercise in. We'll see how the day goes.

What is everyone else planning for the weekend? Any St. Paddy's Day parties to go to? Who all is Irish? I am. Almost all Irish. What's funny is that my Mother and I both married almost 100% Welshman. Who ever said the Irish and the Welsh don't get along are wrong! emoticon

I saw an article recently about cravings and how if you don't give in a little, you will tend to go overboard. Maybe you can have a small treat here and there. It won't undo it all, unless you eat the whole bag/box/item and not just a single portion. Of course, I have to say, there are some foods I have a problem with and just can't have them in the house (chips, for example) so I will have them when they are available, but don't buy them for myself.

If you stick to portion control, I don't know why you shouldn't be able to enjoy that occasional treat, I know Robin (roloha) has said she follows a 90/10 system, and so do I, if you are eating good 90% of the time, you don't have to worry so much about the other 10%. We worked hard to get to where we are, we should be able to enjoy ourselves now and again!

Hi there,
I technically joined this group in September when I first reached my goal weight but I was busy with another sparkteam that I didn't have time to check out this one too much. I have been finding that the longer I am maintaining the more tempted I am to eat some of the foods (albeit in small portins) that I would not let myself eat when I was losing weight. I weigh myself regularly to keep an eye on things but I am worried that I will fall back into some of my old habits. Any ideas on how to avoid that? I will not allow myself to get back to my old weight but I think that I may need a bit of help along the way.

Thanks Sparkpeople! I could never have made it without this website and all the people I have met through this site!

I'm still really in a funk but since my company leaves tonight...unlike this cold, I hope things will begin to improve. Last night I lay awake for almost 3 hours before I finally got up and took some Tylenol PM so today I feel groggy, but made myself go out and run. I always feel better after I run, although tired.
I weighed this morning and I am down to 116.6 so these lbs have come off mostly because I don't feel like eating. Guess that is why my energy level is down too.
I was thinking about what my next goal might be and am considering taking Spanish at my College. I can get extra money in the work place if I can pass their test. We'll see...still adjusting to this time change as well.
Weather IN So Cal is beautiful....so it's great to get out and run..
take care all...

My first post here in this forum, so glad I found it. I am about 4 lbs below my goal weight, 1 lb above my personal goal. Got back at my maintenance weight the beginning of February and feel awesome! I bought a pair of size 8 shorts yesterday, haven't seen those for 10 years!

Thanks for your kind words.
I don't know....I still feel a bit lost, and way off center.
I am going to work today, and then tomorrow night my company goes back to the airport.
I guess we hope so much for our children, and when they seem to fall so short of that, the disillusionment sets in. I love him, no doubt, I only wish that his choice of someone to be the mother of his son, would have been better. Who knows, maybe her parents think the same. At least when they leave I can get back to my running and that has always helped me to manage stress.
With the time change, this cold (that is somewhat better today, but still lingering) and being somewhat displaced in my home (as I am sleeping on the couch) are all contributing factors. Luckily for me, that when I get this depressed my desire to eat lessens substantially. So for now, I'm not even worried about my weight as I am just getting through today and tomorrow....being at work today is bound to help.
Thanks again all of you..truly it's a blessing to come here and unload....

Kayotic--Thank you for your words of encouragement. I am calling the doctor tomorrow re: my neck pain. I hope to get into see him, my regular doc. The one I saw Friday is part of the group at the clinic, but is not my primary doc. It hurts so bad, and tylenol helps a little, but I would feel better if he saw me. My xray is Tues. morning. When I know what is going on I will start walking 10 minutes a day to begin. That I can do. But not right now. Thank for keeping in me in your thoughts.

Pick-A-Name--I can't imagine running in a marathon or anywhere for that matter. How wonderful that you can do it. Congratulations on your accomplishment.
I'm sure you will find the routine that works best for you once again when your children leave. I wish you the best.

all that training and anticipation, and then it's over, it must be kind of a thrill and a let down at the same time.

And you're not feeling well and have company on top of that, no wonder you don't feel "normal!" Who would?

When the time is right, you will find a new goal, and in the meantime, give yourself the credit you deserve for completing your marathon! That is a great achievement!

Good suggestion Kay...
I was down to 119 yesterday.
Have a nasty cold and so I haven't been feeling well.
I did my first post marathon run yesterday and ran 5 easy miles. It seemed just fine and my body did not complain. I do feel somewhat depressed..there is a lot to be said about post marathon syndrome...the build up and then THE EVENT, and then the CRASH. I find myself asking "what's next?"
I have out of town company and I know that is adding to my stress...somehow I thought being preoccupied with them would distract me..but I think I was wrong.

In any case, I need to find what my NORMAL routine is again, because what it has been for the past 6 months is no more....
In any case I have only 3 more days with my son, his little boy and the little boy's mom and then I will be grappling with....I don't exactly know.......
sigh...life is complicated at times and often I have no answers...
Take care everyone and do good with hanging on to what took us so long to achieve. I know I AM!

Hang in there Elaine! Maybe you could break up your walking, and just try to get in 10 minutes here and there. Even if you just get 10 min a day, it's something, and may give you a little boost in motivation. In any case, I hope your procedure goes well, and I'll be keeping you in my thoughts!

I am 3.4 pounds higher than my original goal of 125. I need to participate more in this team rather than just posting the WW monthly tips! I had hoped to get to 120 and maintain, but I have re-assessed that and I feel it is too much stress to maintain there. If I can hold at 123 to 125 I'd be happy. I am having a lot of medical issues right now, and have not been motivated to walk or do an exercise at all. I "Know" this is not a good thing. I even have 2 walking DVD's. One is WW and the other is Leslie Samsone' s Walking At Home including the waist belt. I have to get myself in gear here and do something. My neck is giving me a lot of pain right now, and I am having a D&D and biopsy done on March 20. I know these are not excuses, but it is what I have been dealing with.

Didn't mean to write an epistle. I just wanted to fill you guys in and say I am here for real this time! emoticon

Well I am still struggling to lose those 3 lbs although I did some research and apparently this is common after a long run..due to stress and because my body is rebalancing the imbalance of salt/hydration...grrrr emoticon
Seems soooooo unfair.
Walked on both my breaks yesterday and for about 45 in when I got home--nice easy walk.
My toes are still tender, but other than that, I think my quads finally feel almost normal today.
I'd do it all over again......but NOT next week.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Hope all is well..will keep watching my weight and hope that in the next few days I get back to my 118 weight... emoticon

Thanks for sharing your marathon experience with us!!! Congrats on your great finish!

lthough I doubt if a marathon is in my future, I'm toying with the idea of joining a 5K race in April and a 7K this summer. So reading your story is good motivation!

LA Marathon Results

All went well considering all the last minute coordination plans for the two nephews who were running...
MY youngest nephew 19 yrs old finished in 3:30 which is phenomenal
The 22 yr old finished in 5:08
I finished in 5:11 and my sis finished in 4:44
I have 3 or possibly 4 toenails I'm going to lose and one blistered big toe..the side of it...
I think my toe nails were just too long..
Today is difficult to get up and down but all in all once I start walking my legs feel better.
both my daughter (who walked and finished a little over 7 hours) and I Have the back of our necks sunburned.
It was a bit warm for running but at least the fireman turned on all the fire hydrants in the latter part of the race, so you could run through those..I did in only a few, because I did not want to get my feet wet..
What was kind of unique, other than they always start the LA marathon with "I LOVE LA" blasting, is that there were numerous UPS trucks with their backs open and each truck had a bib number TO and FROM..you could store any of your things in their trucks by your bib number and pick them up at the end of the race..pretty cool.
People were very generous with treats...lots of really really exceptional orange slices, jelly beans, pretzels, bananas and other goodies...
they had Gu for miles 14 and 19 I think....
NO ONE had a heart attack, and no one was seriously injured...what a blessing--many were treated for dehydration... I Managed to muster a sprint at the end and passed up many walkers...too pooped to run, many of them.
It was such a great experience for all my family, with the exception of my daughter's b/f who bailed at mile 20....HE says he needs to train more..they hardly trained at all....
and the two very overweight women from my work, both finished in a little over 8 hours, walking it..
I don't think it got above low to mid 70's but for running, that is still warm and we started our run into the sun...and on a hill...in Universal City, which is where Universal Studios are....

I would strongly advise any of you who think you might want to test yourself, to try a marathon.
Whether walk or run or a combination, it is a huge milestone and LIFE altering..much like quitting smoking has been for me.....

Thanks for letting me ramble...
Yeah, we had a group of Elvis's too....and a group of Abe Lincolns...roughly 25,000 people...form where we started, it took us 7 min to hit the starting line....but all in all AWESOME!!!
I weighed myself this morning and was heavier by almost 3 lbs than they day OF the marathon...
How do you figure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ooh! Ooh! ME!

My weight has been holding steady for ages now, with the occasional slip a pound or two either way and it - and I! - straighten up and I'm back to where I should be.

I look at myself in the mirror and I see a slim healthy woman and that's such a great motivator!! :)

I was doing really well for the past 3 months, and just barely went over my range for the first time in a while at the end of February. I have started March above range, but am refocused on eating better (a vacation let to eating LOTS of sugar, and fatty food,) so now I'm loading up on fruits, veggies, and good food choices.

So, let me ask you guys this -- what kind of range typically is everyone setting themselves for maintenance mode? I planned 140-145. I was here a few months ago and decided to try to lose more. After exercising my fool head off, I have managed to stay right where I was when I left so I had some tests done at the gym and got a body comp test done and come to find out, that I shouldn't be trying to lose more. I am good with my body fat and my weight is good for my height. I guess I am looking for some good pointers on how to really get into the whole maintenance thing. My ranges seem so high. I don't want to start off eating a ton, but I do want to eventually get myself there so I don't feel like I am in "diet mode" all the time. Any successful hits/tips??? I am all ears!!! I am very glad to be here and am looking forward to getting some good tips from the group!

I'm at the top of maintenance range as well, and want to get rid of this last kilo, 2.2 pounds.

Wasn't able to fully meet my goals last week due to health concerns, so I hope this week will be better!

I too am at the top end of my maintenance range but I have all the healthy habits and motivation in place to continue to get to the lower end. And I'm pacing myself there - I hope to be to 118 (low end of my maintenance range) by July 4th - putting me at losing 30 Pounds in 1 year!!

Still on maintaince. Actually on the high end goal 140, got weighed in yesterday and was 142); so just made it by the skin of my teeth!

Would like to lose another 5 to 10 lbs. Having an awful time since I've been ill for this past month, on all kinds of meds and tests.

So bloated from all this stomach and bowel problems! Have to have my Esophagus streched every 3 to 4 months because of chronic erosion of Esophagus and stomach (on meds for this) and they had to insert ballon in this time to open it and found a large growth.

Sorry, to go on about my problem this month, but this is why I've gained a little.

Not giving up!!

I too am still in range -- at the higher end. And I think I want to try again to bring it down so that my goal weight is the midpoint of my new maintenance range.

So my new range would be 125-130 with my "magic number" of 127 (lol - it's not really magical).

How about having a fun "Staying at goal and maintaining" party during each month, right here, on this thread.
A NEW thread will start at the beginning of each month.

If you're within your maintenance range, WONDERFUL!
Celebrate it!

If not, ABSOLUTELY GREAT, because you cought it just in time! NOW! in MARCH 2008.
Evaluate what caused you to slip, the situation, and where it might have occured.
See that you can learn from your slip.

REMEMBER!!!
Slips should teach you, not defeat you!

Forgive! Forget! and Move on!

========================================

NOTE!
If you're within any goals that you've set up for yourself for maintenance, it's time for a party!
