Well once again I am at 118.8...this is so acceptable for me..
I leave tomorrow for LA to spend the night and then get up Sunday morning and run the marathon.
My sis and I are sooooooooooo excited, I just hope I can sleep well tonight, because tomorrow night I probably won't sleep well...
Hope all have a good weekend
I think that the fact that we continue to post and talk about maintaining, THAT is what will help us to stay on target..at least it does for me...

So far so good. I have been maintaining since last May and find the biggest factor is staying with SP and weighing once a week to make sure I'm doing the right things. I tend to log in at night so that I can see how I did for the day on my own. I don't know what I'd do without this place!

Thanks for the Birthday Wishes. I have been informed by my loving hubby that I WILL be taking tomorrow off from work and I will NOT be doing any chores/errands/work around the house.
As far as the fluctuating weight goes...round 4 lbs seems like quite a sway but hard telling...I have seen 2-3 lb diff from day to day and at first got tweaky...after a while I got used to it...no I'm just grumpy cause it seems to just be going up and up. ARGH!
Donkey, I'm with you...third time's a charm each day.
Crazy behavior, lol.

I always weigh myself 3 times to make sure that the number I'm seeing on the scale is what I'm supposed to be seeing.

I suppose weight could fluctuate that much, especially if you have had pasta w/sauce the night before (both of which tend to make you retain water). My weight's been zig-zagging between 132.0 and 129.5 the whole week.

I know this must sound silly but did you check more than once to see if the initial reading of 116.4 was accurate?

Is it really possible to fluctuate this much?
I mean I once checked my scale against another and it seems very close.
Yesterday I weighed 120.2 and today 116.4???
Is that really possible?
I mean even if I had run a little extra or somehthing; when in actuality I did not run for the past 2 days??
I've been eating what I think I usually eat....
so I don't get it....
Anyway, glad to see we are all doing well..
One week from Sunday Is MY MARATHON...I am soooo looking forward to this...can't wait...
I'll be sure to post any of the funny or more interesting things, when I am done...

Fellow Birthday Girl...TWO Birthday dinners on Friday? You're just tempting devilish ways there, aren't you? Good plans for the week tho...definitely keep on the fitness routine and be a good girl all week and two birthday dinners shouldn't be bad, really.
I'm not sure what's on tap for me for Friday....joined my family for lunch today to celebrate my and my baby brother's birthday (his was the 15th and we're 11 years apart).
I am not looking at a two pound loss for my birthday...and ended up with a two pound gain instead with the bad foodie activities of the last week plus. ARGH.
Spring has got to come soon here in the Northeast as I'm suffering from the Winter Blahs and not sure how much longer I can hold on, lol. I'm a pound over my 'comfort zone' right now.
Keep up the good work...you'll hit 127...

Week #1 of 6 went good for getting back down to 122. I'm proud of myself for hitting the gym 4 days. And I just had my weekly "Health Meeting" (with myself) and I'm planning on going 4 more times this week! It's my birthday Friday, so I planned to eat a little less all week so I can eat a little more for my 2 birthday dinners! I think I'm all set to hit 127 this week!

Am I at goal and maintaining in February?

I'm calling it four months of maintenance although I put on a few pounds over Christmas and on my US travels. I got back to Germany on Friday and it feels so good to be back in my own kitchen, preparing my own meals and - yes! - even tracking. All the restaurant meals and buffets of the past couple of months are behind me. I want to get the extra pounds off by the end of the month, so I plan to track till then.

I'm not actually sure how much "damage" has been done - I'll weigh myself tomorrow on my scale for the first time in weeks, but it's in the 3-5 pound range.

I agree about new goals - I've been getting into jogging intervals during my walks so am considering doing a 5K race in April, maybe a 7K in June. Now that my travels are over, I can be more structured about training.

Hope everyone gets a good start on the new week tomorrow!

Blessings, Michelle

I think it is hard to keep up the momentum in maintenance, and there will be the ebb and flow of energy and desire to continue the healthy habits when the goal is to stay the same, not to see a big change in the scale. After so much focus on losing weight, it's really a big change to try to stay the same. I think one way to regain some momentum and motivation is to set a different type of goal. If you are training for a marathon, that is probably enough of a goal, and to echo what Emily said, maybe the focus shouldn't be to lose more weight. If your clothes still fit well, and everything else is in line, then maybe that's just where your body needs to be at your activity level. If not, then I guess what I did when I was out of the range I wanted to be in was refocused on the diet and exercise. It did take me a number of months to find the motivation to do that, I will confess, I had gained because of new job stress, and just didn't have the motivation to change my night time binging until that leveled off.

Either way, good luck w/ the marathon!

I agree that maintaining can be harder than losing. At least with losing, you're determined on a set goal that you're NOT at yet. So you have motivation to reach it. It's so easy to get lazy with maintaining.

Those last stubborn pounds...are you sure you need to lose them? Do you still have body fat or is it all muscle from training? I'm just thinking that if you're eating so well and running so much, maybe your body can't lose the 2 pounds?? But I don't know what your body looks like! if there's still unwanted fat, then keep trying!

My body has settled in now for almost two weeks at 119.2...does not want to budge, but I still want it a lb or two lower...grrrrrrrrr
The marathon is just a little over 2 weeks away and when that is over, even though I will still be running, I want to ease up a bit on my training.
I still don't know what I can change in my diet, because I know for the most part, I am eating healthy and the few treats I still eat, are almost mandatory, because I am so religious about eating my salads and lowfat this and low cal that....it gets a bit boring, but I still don't know what to do to get those stubborn few lbs off....
Hope everyone is doing well....sounds as if you all are doing GREAT!

I've been maintaining 4 months now. The last couple of weeks I've been sitting at the top of my range because I've been lazy and unmotivated. Who would have thought maintaining would be harder than losing.

guess what? yesterday i went through my work-pants and tried them all on and am getting rid of the ones that are too big! i haven't worn them in months and i keep reading that you're not supposed to keep them around to help keep the mentality of maintaining the weight loss.

anyways, i also went shopping and got a couple new pairs and still have to hem 2 pairs i got for xmas that fit other than length. :)

it was all very refreshing

Nuts was going to be my suggestion too, I also went from skim to 1%, sometimes 2%, and I've been getting regular yogurt (plain, less sugar) and adding granola and fresh fruit for breakfast. I like the olive oil suggestion too.

Can't remember who raised their maintenace weight, but I did the same thing a while back. I had my range set at 127-132, and was really struggling, consistently at 137! when I switched my range to 130-135, I'm now more consistently in the 131-133 range! go figure! I think it was a mental thing with the weight, but it seems to be working in the new range, I think it's more realistic, and my clothes fit well, the lower end of the old range, a lot of my pants were falling off. In any case you commented on your big fluctuation, but it didn't look that big to me. Just wanted to relate that to you, good going!

You can also increase portions slightly. A slightly larger cut of meat, or cook with a little olive oil -- the article on Calorie Boosting Tips will probably give you some other great ideas:

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutriti
on
_articles.asp?id=593

You're probably not going to be able to suddently leap to your new minimum... add a little bit each week. Maybe add 100 calories this week (as Eevee said, one serving of nuts is all it takes!), then another the next week.

I continued to track every day for 4 months to make sure I learned how much I should be eating to maintain. :) I've been maintaining without tracking since October. :D

After being unable to get back down to my original goal weight, yet still fitting in my clothes just fine, I adjusted my maintenance weight to 123. I am maintaining that, although my weight fluctuates wildly from day to day, anywhere from 122 to 125.

been in maintenance for almost 6 months, and am holding within my 5 lb lee-way, on my 4 days on- 3 days off diet. When I'm "up" in my leeway, i go back to 5 days on-two days off. This is working well for me. Maintanence is easier than i thought is would be...although i would like to go a solid 5 more pounds down. guess i"m just not serious enough to get those elusive 5 more! Everyone sounds like they are doing well with their running...i admire all of you!!! I am still going to gym 5 days a week...it is the secret...to getting it back off on those "off" days!!!

It DOES get a bit discouraging to run all these miles and not see any real difference..I expect to see at least a couple of lbs LESS after running 13.1 miles today.
NOOOOOOOOOO such luck.
But I am still pleased cuz I did it in 2hrs 13min which avgs out to 10.5 MPH...I came in second IN my age group and got a really nice gray running shirt..the good kind of shirt that wicks the sweat away and is light.
I felt like I was in sprinting mode because this was a race. IN the marathon 3/2 I won't be sprinting like that.
It rained the entire time and although it wasn't usually a hard rain, needless to say we all got soaked and there were numerous puddles to run through
Now that the race is over, it of course STOPS raining but NOW the wind has kicked up....If I had to choose, I'd run in rain before the wind.
But it was for a good cause. To support an officer who got mowed down by a drunk or HIGH driver. He is a triathlete and may now be paralyzed from the neck down. So very very sad.
Will see what I weigh tomorrow and avoid pigging out today, because my mind tells me right now I need a bag of jelly beans..a big bag too..........and well we all know I don't need one.
HAHA!!
Gosh I was surprised that I passed people much younger than me..one gal was a State trouper (CHP) ...she looked about 30 ish....or slightly more...
Anyway, good to hear everyone is doing well!!!!! emoticon

Success seems to be a matter of hanging on after others have let go.

Great year thus far. My weight is down 2 lbs since Jan 1st and my clothes continue to fit looser and looser.
I began incorporating HIT last fall and that really works for me. I am now going to concentrate on cleaning up my diet even more to see the change that makes.

I've been on that plan Gail! It's ok for maintenance, but you probably won't lose any weight!

I guess I'm in the minority for loving this winter! Except for the driving, I am enjoying the amount of snow we have gotten, we have been skiing every weekend (almost) and I am getting better every time! We got a fresh coat of powder last night, along with a good dose of wind, and it is a beautiful site outside. I'm glad I don't have to go to work today, I can just enjoy the beauty.

I guess that was off topic! In any case I have been maintaining for a few years now, with a few blips up over my range back in the fall, but I seem to have it under control now, and January was another month where I stayed in range the entire month. emoticon emoticon emoticon

February is starting out well too! 3 days in range and holding steady!

lady-donkey : I am so done with winter also. I am not winter's biggest fan, and I think this year is even worse than other year, even though we have not had a horrible winter.

Congratulations on steering the donkey back on track before things got totally out of hand.

I have been maintaining my weight for a while now. For the past 4 1/2 years I have tried to stay around the 132 mark...today 132.6. But now I would like to lose another 10 pounds. I don't feel like charting calories, and I don't feel like upping my exercise since I am already running about 30 miles per week. Hummm, doesn't sound like I am to ready or willing to drop those pounds yet. :-)

I'm new on this thread, but I've been maintaining since Thanksgiving Day. December was my best (lowest) month. I had an awful January, and resorted to stress eating. Then I got sick with a sinus infection that is still playing havoc with my tummy.

Long story short, I found myself just past the upper range of maintenance (133-127, weighed in at 133.5), so I am very relieved that I caught myself in time. Also I know that this month cannot possibly be as bad as last month. And I am ready to steer this Donkey back on track!

But I am SO ready for Spring, it is not even funny. Mr. Groundhog did NOT see his shadow here in these parts, so I am prayin' he's right this year.

I'm a 2/22 baby as well, SHININGEMILY! Maybe we could join heads and focus on two pounds by our birthday together. I have been hanging 'round 112 myself for a while (nevermind the 114 today, LOL) and would like to sit at a solid 110 midrange. Something about an even 25 lbs lost and maintained sounds good to me. We can do this! I'm green with envy that you can run outdoors, Winter is wearing on me and the Dreadmill is not a lot of fun but I'm glad to have it.

YELLOWBRICKRD, thank you so much for your reply....I appreciate it as I really identify with what you wrote. I like very much being where I am, weightwise, healthwise, fitnesswise....and noticed that lately my tummy is a little more rolypoly than normal as are my thighs so even tho my weight has not spiked until today, I've been feeling less fit....make sense?
I'll do my best to jump on that motivation of stringing together clean days....and not focus so much on the next time I can have something not so good for me...
I really do enjoy eating healthy food, carrots and cukes are so satisfying, as is eating a half a grapefruit with just a sprinkle of sugar, I don't know why I let myself get hauled down the cookie and cake road-stress may have something to do with it...
Thanks much for the luck! Again, appreciate the input.

Logdiva: You are doing great! I have been in 'maintenance' for about 3 years now and in the past year I think I have started to "test myself" also - ordinarily, I would only have dessert once or twice a week at most, but lately I have had dessert or pastry-type stuff several times a week and gained a solid pound as a result - it's tough because losing even one pound that is not water weight is honestly not that easy. I like being where I am weight-wise and health-wise so much that I just can't picture letting myself slide down that ol' "slippery slope" to weight gain, so I have started to actually track my "clean" eating days. As silly as it seems, I am motivated by stringing together as many days as possible.

Good luck to you!

Did the groundhog see it's shadow? I'm really sick of winter! The snow has prevented me from running twice this week, but today I'm taking matters into my own hands and going to the YMCA! Anyways, I'm trying to lose 2 more pounds by my 2/22 birthday, and then I'm going to spend the next while learning to maintain at 124, and not at 130! To maintain at 124, I really need to put in a conscious effort, but I know it makes me look and feel better...and eat healthier! Yahoo to all of us!!!

Happy Groundhog Day!
I'm JUST above my maintenance range today (108-113)....and I'm sure it has a lot to do with my eating habits as of late.
I don't know if I'm just complacent or I'm testing myself. I have been inhaling sweets as of late and having a hard time controlling that intake both day and night. Really need to rein myself in.
It's a good thing I am steady and on track with my exercise routine cause otherwise I'd be a good bit heavier than 114. It may be just a silly blip due to what I ate yesterday....I hope!
Maintenance is tough....but Life is Good.
Have a great month.

I am! The last week of January was not the healthiest eating time but it's NOT defeating me! My weight is where I want it to be!

My health is SO much better than it has been (I attribute this to being healthier and proper medication both, however) and I've had a healthy winter for once.

My energy levels are good.

My confidence, despite my former boss trying to tear me down, is pretty high.

Hey ya Jackie..congrats on your maintaining..
Look I only began distance running 2 yrs ago.
I joined Roadrunners in Ventura which is roughly 60 miles or so from LA..LA does have a Roadrunner group as well. We start training in Sept and gradually build our distance. I could never have gone from what I was running to a marathon without this training.
Our group meets once a week to run together--little sub groups and even walkers join our group. Then the rest of the week we train on our own. We are given a manual that outlines what we should be running and what days to rest. So I only go to LA to do the marathon..we go up Sat and spend the night in a hotel and then return on Monday..some go back the DAY of, but I like going the day after.
It is a life changing event, and I am thrilled that this time I am running it, about 15 lbs lighter...than 2 yrs ago. I think anyone is capable of running a marathon IF they put in the time and training.
Everyone have a good weekend!

Good Morning Everyone!!!

This mornings weigh in drops me below my goal range but I have been adding more cardio and cleaning up my diet so that I to be expected. Also had my body fat measured this morning and it is down from 20.9% to 19.2% since Dec 15th.

Pick--do you live in Los Angeles??? I was thinking(dreaming) about training for the marathon in 2009 but have no clue how or where to start!!! I have never run more than 20 minutes, let alone run in a race of any length. Any suggestion would be great!!!

Congrats to all the maintainers!!!! Woooo Hooooooo!!!!

Well here we are a new month!! emoticon
I am at just a wee bit higher than I'd like..still 118.8 is within my maintenance range.
I want to try and figure out why I have this perfect number in my head 118 or below and that achieving it seems elusive and anal!
However, I am doing better with the sugar treats..I seem to be able to limit myself better with just self-talk BEFORE I take the first bite, or even pick it up

emoticon

So this is my final month of tapering before I run the L.A. marathon March 2nd
I will be running a half on Sunday for a fund raiser at my work, but other than that, my mileage will decrease weekly ....wooohoooo...I'm looking forward to completion..and know that I will sometimes miss my rigorous training but also NOT miss it.
Hope all is well
KNOW that we can do this..we can be the people we deserve to be with just a little effort and self praise..

I'm at my lowest range of maintenance.
I finally got used to the idea that maintenance, for me, is doing the exact things I did to lose the weight: Eating healthy and exercise regularly are a MUST, for me, to stay at maintenance.

On maintenance 3 years and 209 days.

How about having a fun "Staying at goal and maintaining" party during each month, right here, on this thread.

If you're within your maintenance range, WONDERFUL!
Celebrate it!

If not, ABSOLUTELY GREAT, because you cought it just in time! NOW! in FEBRUARY 2008.
Evaluate what caused you to slip, the situation, and where it might have occured.
See that you can learn from your slip.

REMEMBER!!!
Slips should teach you, not defeat you!

Forgive! Forget! and Move on!

NOTE!
If you're within any goals that you've set up for yourself for maintenance, it's time for a party!
