That's one thing I LOVE about going to the parents' for the holidays. Left overs are not a worry. I just turn down the offer of bringing food home with me.

It's still one day, one meal as long as you don't get saddled w/ the leftovers. Of course, turkey can be a good healthy lean meat, so maybe that leftover wouldn't be too bad.

We never had anything green at our tradtional midwestern type T-day dinner, unless you count the "salad" that consists of Pistachio pudding mixed w/ cool whip, mini marshmallows and a can of fruit cocktail. Thank goodness for the green bean casserole that has slipped in to our "traditional" meal. And we seem to have added a real salad w/ lettuce, tomatoes, etc.

It's nice to have some better choices on a day devoted to overeating.

My family actually got tired of doing the same "traditional" foods for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Last year, we actually did Italian. It's more about family than food, anyway. Unfortunately, this year only my immediate family will be getting together and my father (who is a major foodie) whined until my mother agreed to cook (and I was hoping to avoid THIS holiday meal!).

Yep, Kayotic, that was me!

We don't have stuffing or mashed potatoes, but instead of have rice pilaf. We don't have sweet potatoe cassarole, corn (with or without butter), birthday cake, or pasta.

Of course, we do have cranberry bread. And occasionally we have sarma (grape leaves wrapped around either ground beef or ground lamb). We'll have a ham, as I'm not a big fan of turkey.

We do have salad, though. I was wondering if my family was odd in that respect (like, rice pilaf for mashed potatoes) as my in laws don't do salad. Of course, their Thanksgiving is stereotypically Midwestern. Everything is covered in a sauce.

For me, it's less about Thanksgiving than the fact that I'll be on vacation for a week and on the road for much of it!!

I love Cooking Light, and their T-day menus always look tempting.

I wouldn't eat a lot of the stuff on that menu either, but may eat more of some stuff on there, for instance I would not limit myself to 3 oz of turkey! I'll skip the B-day cake, but I usually see a pecan pie at my house, can hardly resist that, and like the other poster said (was that Sarah?) we have other things to substiture for what I wouldn't have from that list.

Thank goodness it is just one day, and I'll leave the leftovers at my Dad's!

I am using a menu from Cooking Light. I plan to have a little of everything. I will try to eat a high protein high fiber breakfast and other filling foods throughout the day so I won't be as tempted to overeat.

Egads!

At first, I went through the list and thought "nope, don't have that... don't have that..." until I realized "hey, wait, my family has OTHER things instead. Don't get all smug about that!" (For instance, we don't have mashed potatoes, but instead we have homemade rice pilaf).

Food for thought!
What is your plan?

94 WW points = Portion controlled Traditional Thanksgiving meal
And that's without second helpings!

For those of you who count calories, ONE POINT (Weight Watchers) on the average is 50-60 calories, but can be as high as 120 calories if the fat grams are high and the fiber has 0 grams.

6 cubes of cheese = 3 points
4 crackers = 2 points
Turkey, 3 oz. = 3 points
Gravy, 1/4 cup = 2 points
Stuffing, 1/2 cup = 4 points
Mashed potatoes with butter, 1/2 cup = 2 points
1 roll - 3 points
1 bisquit = 8 points
Butter, 1 tsp. = 1 point
Salad - 0 points
Dressing for salad, 2 TBS. = 4 points
Cranberry sauce, 1/4 cup = 2 points
Sweet potato casserole, 1 cup - 8 points
Corn with butter, 2/3 cup = 2 points
Pumpkin pie, 1/8 slice = 9 points (pumpkin pie, 1/8 slice without the crust = 5 points)
Apple pie, 1/8 slice = 9 points
Birthday cake celebrations = 12 points
Wine, 4 oz. = 4 points
Ice-Cream, 1/2 cup, premium = 7 points
Whole wheat pasta = 3 points
Vegie tray = 0 points
2 TBS. dressing = 4 points
Fresh fruit, 1 cup = 1 point
Green beans, 1 cup = 1 point

Good to remember:
It's a holiDAY
Not a holiWEEK!
