Sandi - nobody has been here at all. Maybe you are right about February being busy for everyone. I know it feels like I've been almost running in circles for weeks, yet can't remember half of what I've been doing in all that time....

Over the next couple of weeks things are only going to get worse too, what with all kinds of medical appointments mostly for DH , but also a couple for myself too.... the perks of getting old , blind, deaf, and senile I guess! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Then both boys are going in for dental cleaning and extractions on March 10th. Poor Arwen will really get bent about them both getting collars, leashes AND going in the van while she has to stay home. She will know they are getting special treats and she won't be ...... emoticon emoticon emoticon

Debra, just take the easel outside with some paints and paint, it doesn't have to be an epiphany just a painting, I'm sure once you get started the juices will flow.

I've never been able to master watercolours, I think it is probably one of the hardest mediums to master. I'm going to start with watercolour pencils and see what trouble I can get into. I love to sketch with pencils, coloured and plain, but my favourite are acrylics.

I love to do anything with my hands, from knitting to sewing, cooking to preserving, DIY to gardening.

Hadn't noticed this topic before. I have just been mailing back and forth with a Sparkfriend who does wildlife art. I had started wondering how much work I will have to do to get to drawing well enough to get into some of the juried shows around here at fairs and the Stock Show. I haven't painted for several years and never was all that great at the drawing, but had just found out about a way to use a graph to enlarge a drawing from a photo I took, which is how I drew my last painting I was working on of my horse. Now I just have to start trying to get the color right again. I never could match it. My main media is oils.

We are having snow today and the temperature not over the mid teens. They had predicted we would have 1-2 inches by this morning's rush hour, but it hadn't started yet. With this weather you wouldn't think anyone would be thinking of planting their garden, but I was down ordering some seeds and transplants at the Recreation Department. I hope I can get the things to grow right this year.

I too used to be a pretty good painter and sketcher. My husband bought me clay, acrylic paint, watercolors, a drawing pencil set, paint brush set, clay working tools, all kinds of paper, etc all for Christmas. (which I had on my wish list) Now I just need to get past my creative block! I am finding it hard to get started creating. I feel guilty becauser he invested so much in these tools! Why is it so hard to get started? I just don't know how to start! I really need some kind of diversion and creative outlet. We were snowbound all weekend and all I did was some housework, TV and movie watching. Cooking and playing Scrabble with my husband. I could have started a painting or drawing but the supplies just sit there and mock me! emoticon

By the way my picture here is a painting my son did. He is an award winning artist and tattoo artist.

Thanks Kathy, it's amazing how such a little ball of love can have such a traumatic effect on you. I still miss her terribly, she was a fearless little dog, so very loyal and never knew when to stop, no matter what was wrong with her

Jules - Thanks for the offer of some real Aussie sunshine. I sure could use some real sun to brighten my days right now. All we see this time of year up here is what I call watered down sun - pale and useless.
I did not know that you had lost your adorable little Maggs. I am so very sorry that she has crossed The Bridge - maybe she and my Lucky are up to no good there together, along with other friends and family who have gone in that direction too. This Monday (Jan 27th) will mark five years since I had to say farewell to Luck. I grieved so much for him myself, that I felt as if the other 3 beasties didn't even notice his absence, which at the time made me feel even worse.

We have had others who have very obviously shown us just how lost and miserable they were after one of the dogs have passed. It was very hard to watch them and not really have any sort of ways to reassure them - just lots of extra hugs and snuggles and doing little fun things with them.

Well, we did NOT get all the snow that was forecast for last week - that is until yesterday..... Man oh man, did we ever make up for it over the last 30 hours or so! NOt only did we get a ton of snow, but there were also really heavy winds which made for lots of drifts too.

DH had to shovel a path from the patio doors to the steps off the deck before the beasties could go out this morning. The drift at the end of the deck by the steps was way higher than their backs - and Phoenix is 26 1/2 inches at the shoulder! Some parts of the yard were drifted over high enough all yoiu could see was the occasional Collie ear tip, and other areas had next to no snow at all , you could see most of their paws.

Phoenix tried turning around in one deep spot and lost his balance. We had to go out and rescue him, because he just didn't have enough space to get his feet back on to solid ground underneath him. Ever try lifting a roughly 85 + pound dog out of deep snow, who seems to think you've found s new way to "torture" him, so does not cooperate one single bit??? emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm in So Cal and it's been hot & dry. Where I'm at it's been in the mid to low 80's during the day and 40's at night. Definitely not winter weather, more like late spring/early summer. The news is saying this has been the driest year on record for California and I believe it. emoticon

It's snowing AGAIN! Only supposed to get an inch, but I have a feeling we are going to get way more than that. I am SO sick of snow. And it's only January! At least it is a warm 23 degrees though.

Marie it's funny you said that, we actually use less electricity now with the solar panels than we did before. We use the power we generate over the summer (we get power rebates here) to pay for our power usage in the winter.

I also used to paint, but haven't for years, I always feel like I should be doing something else (useful?) instead of painting. Maybe in the winter I'll feel less guilty about sitting down and painting.

dH & I live in Buckeye, AZ anywhere from 6 to 8and1/2 months out of the year & the rest of the time in Beaverton, OR. Quite a contrast in environments as you might well imagine.

Yesterday, I picked up a paintbrush & started getting myself reacquainted with my acrylic paints .... it's been over 3 years since I drew or painted anything and I had just barely started learning when I stopped. Hopefully this time, I'll continue to learn and not give up no matter what's happening in our lives.

It's an overcast day here so our solar panel production will be way down but since overall this has reduced our electric bill, a day here or there doesn't matter. Well, that and the fact that we're more mindful of what we turn on/off and what time of day we use the electricity.

hope my fellow team members are having a fabulous day! Marie

My sympathy for dogs that grieve, just as we do, but sometimes with less formal support. We are down to one dog and two cats (the dog is young, the cats are elderly) and I'd like to get one more dog.... but the right one .... the problem is every time I go to the shelter I fall in love with all of them. Sigh.

And my sympathy on a different level for those of you coping with horrid cold and weather. We were warned here in SE Arizona that our temps might dip down to the mid or even low 60's this weekend. That's why we live here!

I feel bad for dogs when they are grieving for lost mates. There is nothing you can do but love them as much as you can. When I got a new pup the older dog resented it and wouldnt warm up to him. To this day he is still snappish to him and wont snuggle together with him.

It was -4 this morning. Can't remember a winter this cold. Looks like a weekend of hibernation for us! Going to try out a few new low carb recipes while we are stuck inside.
Can't wait for this work day to be over!

Good to know Charles is doing better Sandi.

Kathy I'll send over some Aussie sunshine for you, we've got tons to spare, it looks like we'll get some more days over the 100 mark next week again.

Bruno and Ladybird have changed since Maggs died, especially Ladybird, they've taken to wanting to sleep on my bed of a night time now and Ladybird always comes up for a cuddle when I get upset about Maggs not being there, she misses her partner in crime emoticon

Sandi - we could surely use some of your lovely Florida warmth up here in my little area of Canada. As you step outside you can feel all your nostril hairs freeze..... bone chilling to say the least!!!

I hope your hubby is doing really well, and is back to full health ASAP! Glad that he is out of the hospital and back home with you again.

Well we got about ten inches of snow and when I woke up at around seven it was 3 degrees F (-16C). It is now 12 degrees F (-11C) at almost three o'clock. Don't expect it will get much higher than that. It feels much colder due to the wind.

The schools were closed today.

You poor souls on the east coast! Here close to the Pacific, on the west coast we are having lovely temps, close to 0 all the time but thaw and freeze, thaw and freeze which makes for dangerous sheer ice a lot of the time. We have some snow but not too great an amount. We have two Mexican rescue dogs and they are in heaven(here on earth) and love the snow.

6 degrees in Northern Ohio this morning. I work at the Electric company and the linemen have a weather clause that keeps them in below 10 degrees. That makes for an annoying day for me!! They like to shop around and clean their trucks. When they clean, all the junk ends up in my storeroom GRRRRR. Men milling about getting underfoot lol.I love them all though. When it's this cold it is painful to work outside. My fur babies don't like to go out when it's this cold. They are tiny dogs so their feet freeze qhickly! Thank God for piddle pads!

I might as well join in the chit chat. I live in Hermon,Maine and we had no snow but bone chilling temps. I work outside for the better part of the day. My DH gave me a heated jacket for Christmas and I have to say it was among the best gifts that I have ever received.
One last thing is that where this is a dog site, we have two Shelties. Cedar is a 6 year old sable sheltie, and Pepper is a 2 year old bi-blue.

The groups that I belong to on here don't seem to do much for chit-chat, so I'm hoping to find one that enjoys it.

The difference between a good day and a bad day is my attitude.

No snow over here in Oz, we're into the second month of Summer here. We've just come out of a week of over 100F heat. We've had up to 110 and over all last week, at least this week it's a little more comfortable.

We were supposed to get a big dumping of snow overnight last night, but instead got bone chilling temperatures - too cold for it to snow. Right now it's - 30 C here which equals - 22 F - cold no matter which scale is used!!!

I spent the day indoors - go figure! LOL It was a lovely day - read more of the good book ( part of a series) I am into at the moment, listened to the radio and some great CDs too, and had several lovely snuggles with one or the other of the beasties.

Yuppers, a good day for sure!

Stay warm, dry and safe everybody!

or otherwise known as "Getting to Know Your Teammates" .... I guess the "Daily Chat" is supposed to be reserved for our four footed family members.

My dH's friend flew home today after spending 7 days with us, which quite frankly, was 3 days too long! If this guy never comes to visit again, that will be OK with me. Both dH & I aren't feeling all that great this evening and may be coming down with a cold. On the bright side, it was a nice sunny day here in AZ.

What are my fellow Dog Lovers up to?
