Anja and Olive - WAY TO GO GIRLS!!!

Well done indeed!

Don't worry about the couple of boo-boos. The weekend our three all got their Rally Novice titles, Arwen got her 4th 'insurance' leg under Cheryl even though I cost her 21 handler error points...... It definitely was not a pretty run through at all, which is why I need to go to classes, even more so than do the beasties! In our case, it's the 2 legged idiot half of the team that is the problem.

It's fun to find a discussion about dog sports! I've done a little bit of beginning work with my Shelties in both Rally and Agility. I'm a retired dog trainer, so I haven't been as serious about my dog training as I was in my younger years. :-\ Anja, hope you enjoy your final Rally class. What will be next? Kathy, I remember you were showing your collies when I was active on the boards a few years ago. I've been inactive here for a couple of years, much to MY disadvantage.

Hi Anja! Glad you had a nice break! Where is the park you were at?

I've never heard of it before ( but then, I am not a camper....). My summers as a kid /young adult were spent in Muskoka (Bracebridge / Huntsville area) where we had our family cottage.

Hi Kathy
Just came back from vacation - a weeks camping at Kilbear provincial park - kust plain awesome
Thanks for the info on Cheryl Bishop at Elite , we live quite close to her about a 5 min. drive away and a few of our neighbours have gone to her and have had nothing but praise as well
Tomorrow is Olive's last class for the Rally - then we do another session of Agility so I may check Cheryl out in the New Year
Thanks emoticon

I used to belong to a dog training club in St. Petersburg, Fl, but moved to Texas 6 ys ago and there is NOTHING dog friendly about the town I live in. My beautiful Australian Cattle Dog did Rally (I had him dual registered with AKC, UKC and WWKC so I could do all the shows) and we were just past Advanced Rally when we moved. Either WWKC or UKC didn't do Rally at that time, I don't remember which one. Sadly, I lost my boy to lymphoma at the age of 8. I would love to set up a rally practice ring to work on with my current ACD, but there would be no one to do it with, and thats part of the fun, the camaderie with other dog people.

Anja, it IS a small world! hahaha the next time you come to London, let me know and perhaps we can get together.

I would highly recommend Cheryl Bishop as a trainer. (http://elitedogs.ca/) Her # is 342 - 6231, and email is info@elitedogs.ca She is a licensed Obedience and Rally judge - but I don't know if she also does Agility. She is one of our favourite judges both to exhibit under or steward for.

She's based out of Kitchener. If it weren't for the distance factor, this is who my daughter and I would be going to ourselves right now. ( Okay, also the $$$ since we have all 3 dogs mostly ready for Rally Advanced as well as Open (CDX) in Obedience )

Anja that's too funny - I'm just a hop and a skip down the 401 from you. I live in London.

I stand corrected on the Rally vs Rally O name - DD tells me that there are still lots of competitors, both Canadian and American, who call it Rally O. According to the CKC though, it's just called Rally......

Who are you training with? We know several trainers down that way, so just curious.

Sending some big old wet lickie - lickies, woofs and tail wags too from my Roughs to your Beardie.

Up here (Canada) it's just called Rally now, and is an official title that can be earned.

All 3 of our current guys have their Rally Novice titles, but before they move on to actually competing in the Rally Advanced or Excellent levels, I need to take some classes. I find all the footwork to be very confusing, and while I have no problem with my dogs failing.... I do object strongly though, when I am the one who causes us to fail.... My daughter doesn't have nearly as much trouble figuring out how to do all the different exercises all by herself, but I really find some of the more difficult ones a real challenge - even the dogs do way, way, WAAAY better than I do !

Good Luck!!
