This is a very scary story for me. We found a half dead puppy in Mexico as ugly as could be. Once he was recovered he slowly became a most gorgeous dog that every one pays attention to and he is so friendly. I am now worried someone will steal him. In Mexico I definitely was worried because some foolish people would want to breed him he is such a doll. I got him neutered as fast as possible for that reason. I am so happy that you recovered your dog, she knew where she belonged.

"The world is one country and mankind its citizens" one of the many truths spoken by Baha'u'llah and "Love is the light that guideth in darkness, the living link that uniteth God with man, that assureth the progress of every illumined soul."

Yes, she was microchipped and tagged and we were on a walk at 9;30am at a park 1 block from my house. There were just 2 ladies in the park way on the other side. Maddie was off her leash but we go there at that time so she can run around with me & she gets the exercise she needs. She is never more than 10-12 feet from me cause she has seperation anxiety and freaks out when I am away but for some reason that morning she darted off and I couldn't catch her. Never happened before and we take that walk twice a day. For a long while now, she will be on the leash as I still have no idea what prompted her to dash off. And I have no idea where she was. The vet said he would bet his months salary that someone had her cause her collar was missing and she didn't come home for 10 days when she clearly knew how to get home.
Just glad she is home safe and sleeping like a baby right now.

What a relief that she is safe and sound at home again. Do you have her microchipped? I guess now they have like gps for dogs. I had a sheltie go out my neighbors door once at night, and I was frantic, but she went straight home and was in the garage. I was so relieved.

When I take mine outside, I go out with them. We live on the corner, and I know how the kids can be. They would tease the dogs behind us thinking it was funny. No way I will let that happen.

Today we take Haley to the chiropractor school. It has helped her.

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful ideas and for their support.
MADDIE IS HOME AND SAFE. She wondered home at 3am in the pouring rain. She is in pretty good condition considering she was gone for 10 long days. Just some scratches, a torn up pad of one right front paw and a crapload of ticks. We've already been to the vet and they are taking care of the ticks and just have to keep an eye on her and off the one paw but she should be right as rain in a couple days. I am the happiest girl in the world!
Thanks again and I am still in awe of the dog detective in Dallas, that is such an awesome idea.
Happy Mother's day to all the gals out there & to all the pet owners.

Thanks for the great replys. She is on FB and luckily my brother has 1300 friends so he has really been working that angle. I have her in all the local pet stores, vets and grooming places. I am continuing to put more pink neon signs up around the area each day.
Wish me luck. Last night I remembered that I adopted her exactly 1 year ago today so maybe that is our good luck charm. Today is going to be the day she comes home!

Facebook, I do that alot for people with lost dogs. Someone just found a dog, by posting about their lost dog. Find all of the rescue groups in your area also. PetSmart has the groups in on the weekends, so give them a pic of your dog so that in case someone takes the dog to them. Find local trainers, as they travel around to clients houses.

I have seen people in Facebook that have lost or found dogs there, with a pic of the dog(s). Try that as well. I hope you find her!

It might help to take fliers to your local pet stores. They usually will put them up in their window. Hope this tid bit helps.emoticon

I would also try putting an ad on Kijjijji. (Think I spelled that right) It is a free online advertisement. Look for it in your ares.

I was digging around http://doggonedetectives.com/ some more and I think they might come to KS but I truly don't think I could afford it. I am gonna check and see if there is something similar in our area. I love the idea of having a dog find my dog.

I was thinking about going to the nearby high school tomorrow and handing out fliers and talking to some kids there. I have been going to the park where she ran off from at night and a bunch of kids hang out there and they are all searching.

Makes me think someone has her and they don't want to give her up but they have no idea the problems she has.
Well, I'm going out now to hit door to door, wish me luck.

She is probably not in the area, so travel out, these dogs can move. Another dog that we found actually traveled far. It was 30 minutes by car. They almost didn't come to see if it was her. They had so many dead leads. When the guy came, it was was a tear jerker with all of us. If I hadn't found the home, I would have kept her. She was a golden retriever/chow mix, so sweet. If someone picks her up, eventually she will be taken to the groomers, so check everything you can think of.

From what vets told me, if a dog comes in new they would scan the dog, but don't know if they even think about doing it. Because she has medical issues, I wouldn't think anyone would steal her.

Post her photos up at the local parks. By schools where children will look at it. They tend to notice stuff like that. I found a dog, and went out to the school bus stop and one of the kids knew where the dog lived.

I'm so sorry. She must have changed where she goes now. I just saw her today when I went to groom my rottie.

I am trying to find any new ideas of how you might go about finding a lost dog.
Brief history, Maddie and I were on a walk last Thursday (5/3) in the park that is 1 block from our house. It was 9:30am, only 2 ladies in the park jogging together. Maddie was not on a leash but she has never ever ran away or gotten more than 12 feet from me and POW she just darted off. I tried to run after her but she got into some trees half way across the park (about a block long) and when I got up there she was gone.

She is tagged, microchipped. I have been walking and handing out fliers. We have HUGE neon pink Lost posters we are making all over our side of town. I have an ad in the newspaper, on craigslist, facebook, 2 local lost dog sites. We have called into the only station in town (oldies) that will mention lost/found dogs. I (or a friend of mine) have been to the shelter everyday to check as well and logging on about once an hour to their site for animal control. I've been to all the local vets, pet food stores and groomers.

Any other ideas I am missing besides selling my car to pay for radio advertisements? I am desperate.

Maddie has hip dysplasia and bad knees on top of her separation anxiety which causes her to freak out and destroy things when left alone. If someone took her she would freak. She would dig her way out of a yard and whine constantly.
Do people really steal other people's dogs? If so, if someone took her and went to a vet to register her as theirs would they scan her first? Or can they put someone else's information into her chip over mine?

I'm so tired and feel like I am loosing my mind. I have taken off work the past week besides about 10 hours of busy time and couldn't miss.

Any thoughts are awesome, thanks for reading my too long post.
