Hi Beth! As far as good shoes go, I have used New Balance and now I'm using Asics. It's best to go to Runner's World online and see their recommendations. As far as tricks go, I'm afraid I don't have any :) But I CAN recommend you a program that I used when I trained for my first half-marathon (but you don't have to do this long of a race, you can just use the training for whatever). I use the run/walk method by Jeff Galloway (see link below). You can adjust it however way you want, even running for 2 minutes and then walking for 1 minute, etc. Many people use this method, from beginners to seasoned marathoners. It's the only way I've done long races. I highly recommend it!! Let me know if you have any questions. :)

I walk a bit, but no running. I've been thinking of trying it a little, though. Any recommendations for good shoes or tips and tricks for someone new to it all?

Hi everyone, my name is Michelle and I'm new to sparkpeople and to this group. Hello, fellow Dentonites! Just wondering if there are any joggers/runners in this group. That is my main form of exercise and I love it (well, 90% of the time, haha). Good luck, everyone!
