Thanks so much you guys, you made me feel a lot better!

All of us have been through counselling...when Don got sick again, we had no idea he would go so quickly. We sent him to the hospital on Dec 23rd, and from what I heard, he was extremely lucky to have an amazing nurse that did everything she could to keep him with us.

He got out, and we just went on - Don did what he could, I did what I could, the kidlets had all the love they needed. But it didn't last for long. He was in so much pain, ok, I won't post more...sorry.

Anyhow, I really appreciate your support - we are going to get better for sure!!!

Hugs,
Trish

Hi Trish, sorry to hear on your loss. My husband was killed in an auto accident many years ago. When my daughter was young. She is now grown with family, of her own whom live close by. I never remarried, not that I didn`t have opportunities. Anytime you feel down you can always send me an email.. They did not have grief counselling when I was widowed. I think grief counselling is a good thing, you can be open about your feelings, sad, anger ect. I did go to the library for books on surviving widowhood. Of all the books in the library I found one to be very helpful but I can`t remember the name of it. I have been widowed 33 years and the years are starting to play tricks, with my memory... emoticon

Hi Trish, so glad to see you back but sorry that's it's under these circumstances. I've had a sprain like yours and over the years, between the two ankles, have sprained them 5 times. My advice is to take it easy. Sometimes, we cram so much in, trying to run from the pain. But we can't. It takes time and we just need to work through it.
I lost my brother suddenly in Aug. They didn't find him until a day and a half later and now it's been determined it was on his 65th birthday. He had so much to look forward to and was just beginning to enjoy life. He had found his passion. It is still hard to believe that he is gone. I cry almost every day but at least it is not so often now. You lost your dear husband through a long battle with his illness. The final outcome must have never seemed possible but it did happen. Let out your sorrow. A friend advised me today to be extra careful because in grief, we miss things that cause accidents, kinda like what you experienced.
You're going to have to work through it, a day at a time. I had depression and it was from my circumstances. Remember to take care of yourself. Your kids sound amazing. They have yours and Don's strength. Watch some funny/comedy movies with your kids so you laugh. When I was visiting friends last week, I was ineptly trying to dial a number on my cell phone and one of them went into hysterics at the beeping sound it made. It got me laughing too. It felt really good. I hope that in some small measure this helps.
Hugs, Barb

ps. Have you joined a grief support group? I wished I had after my mother's passing. I also found it helpful to read some of the online blogs or articles on grief, in my case, the loss of a sibling.

Hey guys, I am gonna jump back in here...need some help getting my life back in order!!!

Some of you know, but most don't...my husband passed away in the spring. This summer was INSANE...we did Disney, and a ton of other things...only home for 7 days all summer.

I have been saddled with a back injury for a long time, and while in Osoyoos managed to do a 3rd degree sprain in my ankle...gotta love it when your son dares you to do a cannon ball!!

Josh and Missy love the teachers they have, and are thriving...

I am not, battling depression, and have no idea how to get through it.

If all you get is all you give, then you should only give all you''ve got.

I'm getting my life in order after years of overload and burnout. Late June I returned from an East African 2 week safari, then on the return, a visit to a friend in Switzerland (who I met on my Galapagpos trip) and a 5 day trip to Florence. Florence had our summer heat but was extremely humid and noisy. It was good to see my friend and the Safari was fantastic (except for the other passengers who were a bizaare group).

Back after being away for 4.5 years, with all my weight back. Started walking and using my elliptical again. Using the trackers again. Lost 3.6 pounds this week! Good start. Now to just keep going....

Even though it is not active now, it may become so again. There is so much history and it is listed on many friends teams. it's how we can find each other again.
BC Girls is too wide a group. This was started for the Okanagan.
We all dips and valleys at time. Please don't remove it. I will be very upset about it.

Hi all! this is the first time I have logged onto SP in quite a long time! Too long, in fact. It seems that it's been awhile since anyone posted on here. How is everyone doing? I am going to throw this out there to all of you: what about closing this team and anyone who wants to is welcome to join the BC GIRLS team who has a motivated, active, busy but dedicated leader? On one hand I feel bad about suggesting this but then I think about it a bit and realize that what is the point of all you Spark friends being a member of a team that is stagnant? That is not helping you one bit. It would be more meaningful to be a member of an active, motivating team if you want to continue to aim for your goals and be successful.

So............your thoughts anyone?
Maybe I will check back at the end of May, one week tomorrow and take things from there.

I am sorry for not being on SP more lately; life is very busy but in a good way.
Take care all of you!

I don't know what combination of stuff I've done but it's like I've 'woken up' finally this last week or two - longer days, more sunlight, early morning light or a change to when I take my vitamins. But whatever it is, it's good!
Problem is, I have so many things on my plate, I get stalled sometimes. I just have to what I need to do a bit at a time.
Have a great week!

How is everyone doing out there? I hope you're staying on track and getting closer to or reaching your goals.
I can't believe my weight keeps going down and while that is not a bad thing, I am just working at coasting with my weight rather than losing. I am happy though and feeling great.

I am really enjoying the Jillian Michaels Shred With Weights video. Has anyone else tried it? I am just working on level 1 as level 2 is pretty crazy hard. I just increase my dumbell weights a bit in Level 1 so I get a bit more difficult workout. It's half an hour, it makes me sweat and it really feels like I've worked my whole body when I'm finished which is what I really like about it.

Take care and have a great day!

GFNOMAD, I would love to be able to travel! One day........when I am retired............we will be able to! I can't wait! I too have made some good friends on Spark People, it has been such a great support for me for this past 9 months or so.

Did everyone have a good weekend? It snowed a lot here on Saturday which really threw a wrench into my weekend plans of going riding and stuff but I hope the weather is going to smarten up now for good.

Have a great night everyone!

Hi All,
I've been on Spark since Jan 2, 2006. Back then, when I entered my foods and kept track of fitness etc, I lost weight on Spark but I find it takes so much time for my usual foods that I don't get anything else done. It does keep you on track though. That was also when I was new to the Okanagan so I didn't know as many people and was not involved in as many activities and volunteering. I know what to do, I just need to do it. I'm back on the exercise bike. I have a trip in June that I must get fit for ( and there's that darn hanging preposition).

I've made some great friends on Spark. They are from all over several countries. I love that! Posting everyday stuff on this forum is a great way to get to know each other. I don't participate in the challenges or games. I don't have time and when one belongs to several teams, it's just not workable for me. I belong to this team for connections to where I live. I like finding out what is going on in our corner of the world and what people are participating in.

I am a celiac and have been on a gluten free diet for 31 years. Much of my time is spent on support for the Celiac community. So much else is spent cooking, baking or looking for gluten free foods. Generally they have twice the calories and 3 times the cost of regular food.
I've had a number of other health issues over the years due to multiple concussions and carbon monoxide poisoning but I act as if there is no reverse gear and keep moving forward after each setback.

I love to travel. When I was working, I would take my annual vacation around my birthday and spend it in a different country/city each year. What a great way to celebrate your birthday. I've been retired for a few years now and life is so busy, when is there time to take vacations? What a problem to have. Check out some of my travels in the links below my signoff or in my spark photos.

Good morning Okanagan Sparkers! Hope you're having a great start to your week! I cannot believe the weather here this morning: it is COLD, it is SNOWING and it is BLOWING! I thought spring was supposed to be here. emoticon

Way to go NED333 on your weight loss, it's a great feeling isn't it?! I too find that now that I have the tooks from SP to eat healthy and exercise regularly, it is diffiuclt to fit Spark People into my day along with everything else. But for the next little while I am committed to making time for this team to get things rolling again.

ANN478, how are you doing? Anything to share about yourself?

Anyone else have any little tidbit about themselves to share so we can get to know each other better?

I have two kids: Daughter 16 and son 21. He still lives at home. Me and my daughter love horses and have one. I think we are going to get another one too. We love spending time at the barn where we keep him and she hopes to do some showing this year and some jumping too. I live on an orchard that my husband owns and on the weekends when there is work to be done there, I like helping out. Life is busy. Full and fulfilling but busy.

Speaking of which, I better run and get some stuff done!

Hi! Try to get here as often as I can but sometimes by the time I log my exercise, track my food and check a couple things out, my time is up! I'm a mom of three kids aged 8, almost 5 and 16 months living on a farm in Armstrong with my husband of 13 years. I've been able to lose over 35 pounds and just trying to find my 'happy' weight now. Just started clean eating a week and a half ago and am starting to feel the benefits (and the pain of detox). Looking forward to learning more about you all in the coming days and weeks! Spark on!

HIi All! I have been taking some time as co-captain to make myself more familiar with our Sunny Okanagan of BC Team. I have been looking at previous topics and posts and trying to get some ideas on how to ramp things up a bit on this team and get us Sparking a bit more.

It seems there are a LOT of old topics in the various categoires in this team and I kinda wish I could tidy up things a bit and delete old topics so we can start fresh but alas, I cannot. SparkPeople hasn't got it set up that way.

So the best we can do is start fresh from here. Bear with me as I learn the ropes. For starters, I have removed some topics as "sticky" topics so as we create new topics, those older ones will move down the list, from what I understand.

And in order to get things going on here, I would like to encourage any of you who would like to, post a quick Hi in this General Team Discussion Forum. Share with us one or two things about yourself or a success story or a struggle you have been facing..........ANYTHING AT ALL! emoticon I would just love to hear from you!

It is my hope that by doing this, we get to know each other a bit better on here!

Stopping by this General Discussion Forum to say his is one challenge for this week.
The second challenge for this week is to look at the team goals which are in red on the main team page. I would love it if you joined one or two or all of these goals and tracked your progress! If you have any questions about these goals or how to track etc, I will be happy to help out or you can always ask a question on this discussion forum and any other members will be happy to help out.

Thanks everyone! Talk to you soon!

HELLO! GFNOMAD

The dampness in the spring, burrr and the higher humidity in the summer, I find it unbearable down on the coast, when I go to visit friends and relatives. When I moved up here 20 years ago, I forgot my umbrella when packing for the move. I did buy an umbrella a couple years ago, when I was down on the coast. Thus it sits in my car for when I go down there.

thanks for the thought Ann. Aleve is ASA based so I cannot take it since I've had reactions in the past. I was at the coast for a week and boy, I don't think I had one good night's sleep. The damp there made it so much worse. I've also found releif by using a Tens machine.
I'm so glad to be back in the Okanagan.

GFNOMAD ~ Have you tried Aleve? One pill every 12 hours. Though the pain relief usually starts to work in about two hours. I have osteoporosis and it does help. Little things, can cause pain in arm and back. Such as a heavy grocery bag. If they pack them too full, I ask to have my reuseable bags, repacked more evenly. Walking for extened periods at a time causes back pain, gardening causes back pain ect. If most of your pain comes at night try taking an Aleve around 8pm to get a good nights sleep.

I got back on my exercise bike after having a lapse in commitment. I have been walking on errands. i would like a treadmill but don't have space. i think I'm developing arthritis in my hip. I have pain if I walk for more than 2 miles and it hurts all night sleeping on my side. Unfortuantely I have nightmares and snore when sleeping on my back. All this is not good for having energy during the day.
I've been consistently working at mountain of tasks I have. Not much time on Spark. Barb

Hello Sunny Okanagan Team!
We are a quiet bunch!
What is one healthy thing you did this weekend for yourself?

For me it was taking time to exercise on a Friday night when I would otherwise want to curl up on the couch and veg all evening. I played wallyball with some friends for an hour and then went on the treadmill and ran for a mile and did a bit of ST with weights while on the treadmill. I had the BEST SLEEP I have had in a long time last night, from 11;30 pm straight through to 6:50 am and I think it was due to exercising a bit later in the evening last night.

Anyone else care to share?

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Everyone! Just dropping back in. I don't have much time on Spark but I check in once in awhile to stay in touch.
Ann, thanks for the reminder oabout Eucalyptus oil. It was noted recently in another article I read. I'm putting it on my shopping list.
I still am working slowing at my long term tasks and am back to getting on the exercise bike while I watch the evening news but I am not good at setting goals. They always backfire so instead I visualize stuff and work towards them but I don't write them down unless they are tasks within specific project. Everyday things don't count in that.
Time to get off Spark here. I was working on my backlog of 600+ eamils. Barb

GFNOMAD - My father worked in the pharmaceutical field. As a kid often when winter colds arrived, my father would bring home Eucalyptus oil. A few drops in a bowl of hot steaming water and a towel hanging over one's head, cleared the cold away, quickly.

Works better for me than any cold medicine on the market of today. It can be purchased in most pharmacy departments that carry a line of essential oils on the shelves.

Thanks, to the health benefits of eucalyptus oil, can be attributed to its anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, decongestant, deodorant, antiseptic, antibacterial, stimulating, and other medicinal properties. Eucalyptus essential oil is colorless.

Ann, I feel for you. Howpe you are better now. I was out of commission for almost 3 weeks and probably some before that due to a gum infection. Fortunately the antibiotics too care of it.
What a quick transition to cool weather. It feels like it is jumping into winter. My body isn't adjusting well and I still have too much to do outdoors. Being out of commission didn't help any either.
I can say, thoough, that I am gradually (very gradually!) catching up on chores but as I do that, something else has to give. Right now is it is cleaning. But I'm making progress on the clutter and the paperwork!!!

Hello Okanagan. I haven't been on here much lately as well. Trying to get in a few min, here and there between work schedules. Oct 1st starting off moving more, eating better, being good to me. My spouse has also started today as well. Rainy day but started off with some strengthening and exercises inside for 1/2 hour to 40 min. Loosen things up for the big walk later on today. Will be doing a bit of weight training as well. I'm hoping everyone has some strength and energy to get out there and keep your beautiful body moving. Blessings

Spend some special time with loved ones. You are my SparkJourney Gems and I am right beside you. xoxo C

This has been one crazy summer. So busy and now it's fall again with all those activities starting. I haven't done so well on the weight loss. I need to go travelling since I eat control my meals and calories then.
Now I'm dehydrating grapes from my friend's garden for organic raisins. i can't wait to see how they turn out.
If I was near an orchard, I would go walking there too! I dislike walking on the streets but I am trying to get back into using the exercise bike while watching the news! I haven't practiced that for awhile but for me, it works.
cheers, Barb'

Good morning everyone, no one has written in here for awhile so I thought I'd jump start things and get people writing in here? It's going to be a nice day here, not too hot which is sad for the tourists but I'm happy enough given that I'm going to help my hubby in the orchard today. I am kind of new to spark people and really loving the site. How are things going for all you other Okanaganers since you've been on Spark People? What is your favourite way to exercise? Mine is going for a very fast paced walk around our orchard. It's pretty much exactly one mile in perimeter so I turn on my pedometer app on my iphone and crank my music and away I go. Also, the rows in the orchard are sloped somewhat so I like going up and down them, essentially getting my heart rate up going uphill and of course it slows down a bit on the downhill. Who needs a gym, hey? I think that burns more calories, doesn't it? I also love Yoga Meltdown of Jillian Michaels but it is hard for me. I don't have the good upper body strength but I like the challenge.
Well, that's all for now. Hope to see some of you writing here, it would be great to hear of your successes or challenges or whatever.
Have a great Wednesday!

Thanks Trish, what a generous offer! I can look up his info. I saw my chiro here in Penticton yesterday and since you're in tax season, I'll wait until May. I need to do my taxes too. I got back a couple of days ago and haven't even started on the box of mail yet. I'm pm'g you with my contact info. Barb

Okanog - don't feel bad. It always takes all day at least or even a week to move rooms and when it comes to computer equiment, it is usually even longer. I used to hate it at work when they changed or updated programs b/c it always messed up our schedules for implementations which meant overtime to make up for it.

To everyone else, Hi. It's so good to be back in the Okanagan. I love travelling and being on the road but I also love my home base, activities and friends. The weather put a crimp on the return home. It was cold and even if it wasn't really cold, it was really really windy. I kept losing things out of the back of the car from the wind, like at Death Valley. I wasted so much time chasing and looking for lost things or trying to keep them from blowing away.

I lose weight when I travel and part of it is controlled eating. At breakfast I plan my lunch and snacks for the day. That's usually it until dinner. I used to do the same before I retired. I need to practice this at home. I lost 5 of the pounds I had regained in the last year. Now to keep that trend going!

It's become obvious to me that this is going to be a year of change, from home to vehicles to me.

have a great weekend! Barb

Hey Barb...

Thanks for checking into me:):) My chiro is Jason Wiebe - he is with Summit Chiropractic, and he is AMAZING!!! If you want, I will send you his info, and will also go with you to meet him. He ONLY treats the whole body, never does he adjust based on injury.

I am swimming through tax season, and am praying for the end of April...LOL:) Actually, I love taxes, but the time it takes really burns me out.

Hugs,
Trish

What a day I had today. Thinking it would only take an hour or so, to move my computer stuff to the spare bedroom. Then move things around in my bedroom, to set up the small TV that was in the spare room. What really took the time was wiring every thing back up. So far I have knocked out the internet for my lap top, lost the password for the wireless gizmo, other than that, it all came together, late after dinner! The cable cord connection fell into the wall, good thing there are a few widowers,in my building, called one and he was knocking at my door, before I knew it. He fixed everything quickly and was on his way. Got to leave him something nice at is door for helping me.

Hi Trish,
I checked a few of your blogs and see you're still struggling with the injury. I know how it is. I've written before in your blog. You know what you have to do. I wish you the best.
I think I need to get more info about your chiro. Please pm me when you have a chance.
My chiro in Vanc is super awesome - fixes me from head to toe, tells me how to fix other problems the doctors only suggest surgery for, like my trigger thumb. It's related to the fall I took before Christmas. But chiros in Pencton only treat one part at a time as if they are not related. But I can't drive 250 miles and back to see the Vanc chiro every month.

To my Sunny OK Team,
Today is the last full day in the rental RV at the RV park. I went swimming and did my aqua exercises at 8am this morning in the heated salt water pool before the full sun was on it. It was wonderful. I would do this everyday if possible but the temps here will be 97F today. You gotta pay one way or another. It's been a relaxing, restorative time that I badly needed. I'm not thinking about what I need to do when I get home but I'm sure it will start creeping in. I had a wonderful visit and dinner with a friend from when I worked in Phoenix. It was great to see her and to meet her hubby and and the rest of the family - the cat and dog.
Packing calls me and I don't have much energy when it starts heating up.
take care all, Barb

emoticon GFNOMAD ~ I know the feeling of reaching goal weight, then over indulging here and there. New clothes were feelin' tight. Making excuses that the clothing probably shrunk in the dryer. Knowing full well I must smarten up and get back on track. Which I have stuck to since the beginning of the year.

Marion, your weight loss is so awesome!!! I haven't done well. I've regained the 12 lbs I lost on my trip a year ago. They say 100 extra calories a day will put on 10 lbs a year. Well that's what I've been doing. You'd think I'd have learned the lesson by now.
It has been qiet. I've been posting a comment on the Spark Page of new members to the group. Maybe theu's jump in and post. I've gotten away from Spark. I've been low on energy and concentration since the concussion last year. Trying to catch up on years of boxes of papers. Making some success if I stay away from the computer. Barb

Hi everyone. Yes it sure is quiet on here. I am down a few pounds but definitely not enough. Still trying. I have been out walking 2-3 times a week and have started walking up the Giant's Head again. Not getting too far but I am starting from the very bottom on Victoria Rd., not just at the gate. I hope to walk up to the top several times this year. I am feeling a lot better than I did last year so here is hoping! My weight loss goal this year is 25 pounds so let's see if I can do it. Stay well everyone in this Norwalk Flu season!

Cheers,
marion

thanks Lisa. I haven't checked Kelowna Craigslist but I'll do that. I did find a couple on Castanet. One was sold and the other I'll have to go to Kelowna to check it out. There seems to be a high demand for them right now.

yes, where are all our Sunny Okanagan members. We're pretty quiet. I can't go walking when it is this cold. Have been trying to find an exercise bike but haven't been successful so far. I need more exercise! I've been gaining a pound a week even though I've been watching what I eat!
