Amy - sorry! I'm the one with the mind lapse! It was Michelle's walk and I think she even posted pictures! I told you I was tired!

Michelle - Happy Anniversary!!!! What a blessing. We that are married know that a marriage takes a lot of work, so I pray that God gives you many, many blessings!

I'm going to do my errands on foot, I hope. I will at least do some of them. We'll see how long it takes. I also have volleyball tonight, so I will get my exercise in.
Time for a quick nap, and then off on errands.

In CHRIST I can!

Good evening ladies from up north...
What a day this has been. But I am so glad that it is at an end. It has been trial at work. But the Lord is moving. I must keep moving, I just got done with class, and am ready for bed. Love you all See you in the throne room. Esther

This will be my last check in from this side of the ocean. I will check in next week from Russia.
We arrive on Friday and hit the ground running. The women have a meeting scheduled for us me on Sat and Dale will be preaching on Sunday. I hope we can hold off on construction until Tuesday and take Monday as an off day to regroup. Lots to still get done so no time to chat. Please keep us in prayer as we travel.

Good evening, ladies! Well, today was definitely NOT a relaxing day. I've been going pretty much non-stop since 7am. But it has been a very good day. Today was the last session with my piano students and had a "good-bye" luncheon with my Bible study ladies.....gradually ending ministries and crossing things off the list. It's a good thing, too, since I leave two weeks from today.

Amy, God instituted the sabbath for a reason!

Michele, I just prayed for your boy.

Esther, Alaska is one state I haven't visited. I hear it's beautiful!

Good morning,

Congratulations OMA!

Michele, good job on the walk. And I'll pray for your boy.

Michelle, how is your relationship with Tready today?

Julie, a day to relax? What is that? Just kidding, I think we all need them from time to time. (Well, at least I do!)

Our weather has been pretty stormy here lately. We got about a 1/2" of rain on Saturday and over 1 1/2" on Sunday evening. Yesterday ended up being rain-free but it was very hot & muggy then. Not a good day to run in the afternoon!

Praying for all who are stopping here to chat. God bless!

Oma, 6 hours in the mountains sounds really nice! Recovered fine with no big pains from my 4 hours on Saturday. Hoping to post some photos later today or tomorrow.

Going to town to see some colleagues who just came in and some others on their way to the States.

Would you all join in prayer with me for my middle boy. Lots going on in his life right now. He's 14 going on 30. Slightly rebellious, not interested in spiritual things.

Thanks!

Good afternoon ladies...
It is amazing beautiful here on mainland Alaska... but what part is not... I can't help but love Alaska, even the fog and rain. Which I do not see very much of any more. In fact it finally rained the last few days and I had to pray for it. It reminded me of Kodiak. Thank you so much for all your prayers. The Lord is truly faithful. I must keep moving, I am taking one class this summer, and I haven't done any homework over the weekend. See you all in the throne room. Esther

Shel - Thanks for the party!

Hi Esther emoticon

Julie - how fun!! emoticon (no handbells!) - I played handbells in college and it was so much fun. I love playing and listening/watching them. My DD and I sometimes play the rims of glasses together for different occasions which is fun, but you have to tune them and they have to be just right, etc. Same principle as the handbells though.

Today I went on a 6 hour hike in the mountains. The first part was the hardest but it was a fun day. Mamasuds' family came with us and we had good fellowship while burning lots of calories - I was wearing my Garmin watch and we burned 1522 calories in that time!

Good morning, ladies! I'm sitting in bed with my laptop on top of my lap. (Is that why they call it a "laptop"?????) This is the first slow morning I've had in I don't know how long. I joked with someone that I may even stay in my pj's for the whole day. Won't really, though. I need to do some cleaning and laundry today.

Had a neat experience last night.....we have a music team from Colorado ministering in our churches this week. Because of an injury/trip to the hospital yesterday, they were missing a couple of members when they came to our church last night. They invited me to join their handbell choir for one song. Wow!!!! I have ALWAYS wanted to be part of a handbell choir! What a joy! Not so happy about the circumstances which led to the opportunity, but thoroughly enjoyed helping out. I also enjoyed being able to sit and soak during all their other musical selections. They will return to our church Thursday for an outreach concert, then we will have an area-wide service with them next Sunday with all our sister churches. What a blessing!

I went to Cedarville during the days when dresses/skirts were required during class hours. I worked in housekeeping in my dorm and sometimes had to squeeze in work between classes......changing into jeans would have been permitted while doing my job, but sometimes I just didn't have time!

Michele, well done on your walk! I'm sure your friend appreciated the companionship.

Melinda and Esther, welcome back!

Amy, my parents are looking for someone to put a new roof on their house. Your DH is one of those have-hammer-will-travel kind of people, isn't he? Just kidding. It looks like it may be an insurance job because of hail damage. My dad could do it, but at his age, he's not too keen about being on roofs anymore.

Janice, your travel time is drawing near. You leave this week, don't you?

Shel, sorry to hear about the difficulties in Levi's life. Praying that things get resolved.

OMA, what an accomplishment! What's your next goal?

Have a blessed day!

Julie

Hello ladies
How is everyone?
It is a slow but steady progress back to my normal schedule. I am now working in my daily Spark time. Which means I can check back in daily again. It is so good to see all of you on here, I have missed all of you so much. I don't have time to read all the post today, but I will tomorrow. See you all in the throne room. Esther

Hi Ladies,
I just re-joined the team, I had deleted a bunch of teams last night in an effort to regroup but want to keep this one :D

I cut back to one team for a bit, didn't have much time for sparking, but I really need this part of my life right now, I need to be taking care of myself if I want to help anyone else.

I hope you are all doing well,
Melinda

Julie - I think you told me once where you went to college but I had forgotten.

Michelle - ya, we do some really crazy things. I basically stayed in a skirt all day unless I was training with the volleyball team or working. All that changing of clothes made me weary. I still put on what I am going to wear for the day and be done with it - until I started working out. My clothes would be way too sweaty to wear anywhere.

I did my run, have a cake in the oven for tomorrow (which I won't eat - it has 2 sticks of butter, cream, and 3 eggs just in the filling! My cholesterol started to raise just looking at it!) and am making hamburger rolls. I still need to run to the store and do some gardening too.

Good evening,

Beautiful day here today - although this morning it looked as though it was going to rain at any moment. Never did see any rain though.

Hubby got the last 2 (out of 3) new windows installed today. These are all located in our basement level of our home. I'm hoping & praying that we can get the lower level all fixed up how we want it and then in the next few years can start doing some fixing up to the upper level.

We'll be putting a new roof on this year as well.

Well, I need to soon go to bed but I have one more e-mail I need to answer before I go there.

Good night to all & God bless.

I went to Piedmont in North Carolina. After class when I was there oh, so, long ago, you could wear slacks but never in the academic wing. That included the library. So just to return a book you would have to change. Many a time I donned a long winter coat with my pant legs rolled up to go in to the library. Oh, the things we do.

Tomorrow I'm walking with a group of church ladies including two American missionary friends in a fundraising marathon. I'm not participating to raise money, just to accompany my missionary pal who is walking the whole 40 km. I'm walking the first half with her and my other American pal is walking the second half so our friend has a walking partner the whole way. Hope to do well. I've hit 13.5 km on most of my big walks in a little less than three hours. I plan to walk the 20 km in about 4 hours tomorrow depending on my friend's pace.

Take care ya'll! Sorry about your bad news with Levi, Mama Llama!

Yesterday morning Levi shared with me some bad news, that the mother of his youngest child is wanting to lay claim to practically his entire income. He asked for prayers, as he prepares to go to court. He is more than willing to take care of his daughter - but her mother seems to be wanting to leech off Levi while she sits on her behind and collects assistance. My thought is, let the man she left Levi for support her; or if Levi is being asked to give all he earns, let him have full custody. I would appreciate your prayers for this little soap opera. Shel

Good morning, ladies! Got a late start on my list for today....unexpected things this morning robbed me of some valuable time. BUT even that did not take God by surprise. Now I have the whole afternoon and evening at home. Should be able to make a dent in that list.

Amy, I still say that whole basement thing is ridiculous. Hope things get resolved soon.

Julie - where did you go to school!?
I actually once went to the ice cream parlor on campus in my swimsuit, under my long winter coat with boots to cover my legs. I am sure that would have been a ton of demerits! And once drove to McDonalds (through the drive thru) in my Pj's - with the winter coat cover up. How stupid I was!

Today I mowed the lawn, have laundry on the line and I actually don't have a lot of pressing things to do today. I'll probably work on some pictures for the slide show for the wedding in August.
Oh, and today I weigh less than I have ever weighed since starting spark 3 years ago. Only .6 of a pound before I reach the lost 40 status and am no longer obese!

In CHRIST I can!

I think we're now at the point of having some of the blueprints redrawn to move the laundry room to the basement and create a third bedroom so it is a 3 bedroom home instead of a 2 bedroom home. Thing is though, their living room is going to be in the lower level (basement) so who knows how that will fly with the appraiser since the house won't have a living room. (Although the room marked as a dining room on the blueprint could be considered a living room and the breakfast nook could be considered the dining room.

Oh trust me! I have a dress on under the coat, plus most likely a sweater as well!

The house process is so frustrating. The bank says the loan is approved and the money is sitting there waiting for them. But now the appraiser needs to come back with their appraisal. And things have changed since I was in real estate. Now, any part of the home below ground (even if it's only partially - such as in our case with our house being a bi-level with a family room partially below ground) - that part of the house is not able to be counted as living space. Even if it's only below ground on one wall! The whole housing industry has gotten really crazy in the past few years. I'll be glad when this is all over. And since anything below ground level is no longer counted in the size of the home, our house has gone from a 2600 square foot home to 1352 square feet! Oh well, I plan to live here until my life is over so I don't think I have too much to be concerned over. There is no way I would build a house today except if I didn't have to borrow money from a bank.

Well, that's the update - oh, and we're looking at 3 or 4 weeks yet before they have a final answer.

Amy, when I was in college, I heard of fellow students wearing their pajamas to class - under their coats. That would definitely be better than no dress at all! Any news on the construction of your in-laws' house?

Good morning,

I don't sweat so I struggle when it's humid but I love the heat. I don't tolerate the cold well at all. In fact, I rarely get to wear "summery" clothing to church because they keep the A/C too cold in the summer. It's not much better in the winter - I rarely shed my coat - for all anyone knows, I may not have a dress on under my coat! HA!

We went to a builder's appreciation dinner last night and thankfully I remembered from last year that it was very cold in the building. I took a sweater along! There were some other ladies that didn't know/remember and were cold. I don't really travel anywhere without taking a sweater or jacket along with me.

My lower back is feeling funky today - not sure what got into it but I hope it soon leaves. I can hardly bend over - I feel like I need to be stretched from my mid back to the tailbone.

Well, I must keep moving today and get some things accomplished so I can enjoy the long holiday weekend.

Good afternoon, ladies! I have finished two ministries this week in anticipation of my furlough. Feels great to have some responsibilities lifted from my shoulders! Tomorrow will be a work day at home - prayer letter, Sunday school prep, laundry, fixing food for the weekend, etc. Probably have more planned than will fit into one day!

Michele, my doors and windows are almost always open, too. Some winter days, it's warmer outside than in my apartment.

Janice, how fun to have some time with those grandboys!

OMA, I played volleyball in school but haven't played in years. Enjoy!

Michelle - I don't take the heat and humidity well, so I am thankful the Lord put me where he did.

Shel - I know you seem to do well on the exercise bike. I have one, but it is now collecting dust in the basement. I've sweat plenty on it but I now love to run/walk outside. So I traded in the bike for my running shoes. Not ready to get rid of it totally, so it will remain in the basement.

Janice - wow, lots of losses for your family. So nice that you could rock your GS to sleep. How long will they be in the States?

Today I already cleaned the house, watered my plants, did some grocery shopping, and paperwork. I will be taking my neighbor to the hardware store this afternoon. Then I need to do my ST and we play volleyball tonight.

My daughter and I filled the planters at the cemetary on her daughters grave, my previous husband grave, and my baby brother's grave. My sister will fill the ones on our parents graves. All will look good for memorial day.

Our son and his family arrived home from Ukraine. They have been gone 10 months. I got to rock my new grandson to sleep tonight and also gave his older brother his bath. He told me all about the planes and trains they traveled on. I love being Gramma.

Too busy to track but still doing well.

I used to not be an outdoor person at all. In fact my friend read a comic that had a lady that only cleaned all day and never got out. Her friends took her to the mountains and as she got out of the car she said, "It smells just like an air freshener!" That used to be me!
Now I get out almost every day. I have run in rain, hail, snow, sun, etc. I have learned to love nature. It has to be intentional though because I live in a city of 1/2 million.

Even if I don't exactly have time to enjoy BEING outdoors...I have a mural in my room, a river scene, and the other walls are painted a deep green so it feels like you're in a wooded area by the river...All's I need now is a recording of chirping birds and running water! Shel

The scales went down I am happy.
Another busy day planned as we prepare for departure in 8 days.

We live in a house surrounded by woods with a lovely deck outside that is up 30 ft from the ground. Living room is above the garage. I do not get to enjoy it as much as I would like but it is a great place for morning quiet time.
I enjoy camping but my dh does not. Last year we have friends camping nearby so went out to visit the and enjoy the campfire. I thought it was great but my hubby does not see what is great about it. He is the B&B with hot tub kind of person.

We love camping, but have not made time for it in several years...I like an air mattress in a tent, cooking over the fire and singing around the campfire...good times.

Cleaning day yesterday turned today into a cleaning day as well...good exercise tho!

Scale is down a little...hoping I can make that the trend for a long while!

I like the little bit of nature I have here in the middle of a busy town. When I sit on my balcony, the perimeter wall hides the busy road and all I can see are trees and mountain. It is my little haven for my quiet time...or for reading...or for handwork...I even move my "office" out there some days. I think I would go absolutely crazy if I couldn't get outside almost every day!

Shel, I agree, the outdoors is relaxing. It was kind of funny - when we returned the key to the cabin to our friends, she remarked about how much they like the porch. I never even stepped foot on the porch she was referring to. We spent our whole weekend out on the opposite side of the cabin in the open! It's funny how people can go to the same place & see things so differently.

To say I have a preference of tenting over cabin or anything else, I cannot say I have a strong preference for any one form of being out in nature. We've already stayed at a B&B that's located in the woods (with a hot tub!) and I enjoy that as much as I enjoy any other form of being outdoors.

As I was typing the above, I've realized that I fail to really appreciate our own personal "outdoors". We chose to live in the woods on purpose but with all the pressures of life, I think we fail to really enjoy our wooded area. We hardly ever take the time to sit outdoors and enjoy the sounds of the woods and night. So, I guess that's why I appreciate the time away from our home so much! I'm thinking that some day there will be less pressure on us and we'll one day be able to enjoy our home more - at least I hope so!

Amy, great story!

My farm-raised Mom taught us to appreciate nature, but I didn't go camping until my uncle took me and my sisters, first to a "tamer" state park, and then to more of a wilderness. I loved roughing it! When my first husband and I were married we thought we'd do some camping. Did only a little. When the kids were older we did a bit more. Mostly my son and I went on camping trips with friends from other churches.

There is something so relaxing about being outdoors.

Thanks for the camping story. I have gone camping a couple times here in Germany, but DH and I slept in the van while the kids had tents. My oldest DS went on a 3 week backpacking/tenting trip to Sweden and Norway. Woke up on the tundra with snow! Brrr. Still, I prefer the cabin.

Time for me to get some work done and off this computer. Have a great day, Ladies!

It is late so I will keep this short. Our weekend was fun and busy. We combined gramma time and some work projects and fun time too. We hired the grandgirls to help clean the garage. That had to be done before we head out. DH still has projects that need to be complete before we head out.
Our Ukraine grandsons and their parents arrive on Wednesday. I am excited to meet our newest grandchild. He is already 4 months old.

I took the girls to the local soda fountain on Saturday. There are only 3 left in Michigan. We all enjoyed Brown Cows and Boston Coolers. I know that was not on the food plan but oh it was tasty. I worked hard cleaning the garage and burned off most of it.
WID tomorrow will tell.

Oh yes, I wanted to comment on the whole camping thing...

Oma, we started camping around 1995. I bought a cabin tent at K-Mart for a really cheap price. We had it for about a year before we ever took it anywhere to use it. My family cannot believe that we continue to go camping because every time we camp (and I do mean EVERY TIME), it rains. I always joke that if an area is having a drought, they just need to call us to come camp in that vicinity for it will rain when we're there. I cannot think of one time that it hasn't rained when we camped.

Over the years, as our kids grew into teens and then adults, we purchased additional tents until we were to the point of setting 3 or 4 tents up to house us all (there was only 6 of us - the boys "roomed together and the girls did too until they decided that they wanted to be alone in individual tents). Then my siblings started showing some interest in going so we purchased another tent or so. And it rains when they go with us! (I'm surprised they continue to go with us!) They say that they go with us because we have all the camping supplies.

Last year we bought a pop up that was never used much (got it for a steal of a price - $500!) We went camping twice last year and it rained both times. Our kids still tent but we sleep in the dry and can have a fridge running (if there's electricity on the site). Some of my siblings bought their own tents and I left the kids have theirs. One of my sisters has access to a camper so she at least stays dry as well.

As much as I like to have things organized at home, cooking over a fire, hauling water, living like nomads doesn't bother me. I love it but hate the unpacking & putting everything away when we get back home. I would love to eventually get a self-contained camper & not have to drag anything back in the house when we get back home. Maybe in a few years... after all it only took us 16 years to go from tents to a pop up!

Good evening,

I typed a post out last night but it never made it here - it's lost forever in cyberspace.

We had a very enjoyable weekend with our kids & their spouses. It was a very much needed time away from home and all the stress that life has been handing us of late.

I didn't eat the very best but at least I didn't overeat. We did take a hike back in the mountain to a waterfall and then I took my run. My running app always starts me out with a 5 minute warm up so I headed up the mountain first and then ran all the way down the mountain - close to a mile. I wasn't able to run all the way back up the mountain because it was so steep but I at least got out there & did it.

I donated a pint of my blood today & felt really good afterwards (I normally don't feel this good!) I will be eligible again on July 16th and have my name on the list to donate on that date.

Well, that's all for now. I'll check in again tomorrow.

a cooler day here after a hot weekend!

it's been one of those less productive days - office work-wise... We spent the morning with our adult daughter who is struggling so hard against God and she's wearing out... she had what could have been a particularly terrible morning, and instead, she was shown an amazing presentation of God's grace - but she's not seeing it that way.

We have baby (3 mo old) this afternoon until tomorrow afternoon. My hubby's a wonderful grandpa - just got baby to sleep although Benjamin was crying and mad! Definitely have to do office work tomorrow!

Have a great week, ladies!

Roxie - at least part of your life isn't as busy!

Today I got my run in and my ST. I have 2 loads of clothes on the line, and I need to work on writing our prayer letter. I'm going to hit the shower, then grab a cup of coffee and sit down again to finish the letter. It will feel good to have it behind me.

Enjoying a quiet Sunday afternoon and evening! Hubby was out all day yesterday, from 7:30am-6pm with a 2nd grader at a AWANA Sparks camp - outside in the heat, and then all evening with teens until 11 pm - preached this a.m., and slept from 1-8 pm! He sure needed it...

I, on the other hand, played around on facebook for a bit, and then found out that my daughter's work schedule is all over the place this week - as her babysitter, it really complicates my week... who stays overnight at which house to save a trip of gas... (30 min away). Who has what car and when do we need to be available to take our 5 yr old granddaughter to school - or pick up... so I've been working on several charts, and getting a couple of plans of action for my hubby to choose from...

So - we're looking forward to a quiet week ministry-wise, but busy family-wise.

Camping? Anybody have a 5star tent? lol
We used to camp every year, but many years ago my son who was about 2, wouldn't sleep unless he was on top of me. We saw a lot during the day, but I was tired after not sleeping well. We didn't camp again for many years. We usually try to go to a KOA campground and get a cabin. Ahhh, air conditioning, pool, and campfire. That's my kind of camping. That is why I am serving the Lord where I am and not where some are. The Lord knew exactly where to put us.

Julie,
There will be camping at some point through the year.

Last year friends of our had donated a 2 night stay at their cabin (the one we're at now) to our church for a fundraising auction. I won the bid so that's why we're spending this weekend at a cabin versus camping.

One of my sisters just asked me Thursday night about camping this year. We're aiming for Labor day.

Quiet Saturday at home. I did have two visitors and a third friend who called. Ten days until my total knee surgery. I did get my bus pass to be able to use the handicapped bus system here in town...with my wheelchair. They will pick me up at the door.

Good morning, ladies! Just a quick check-in on this cool, sunny Saturday. The comforting smell of woodsmoke is coming in my bedroom window. (Yes, Amy, the window is OPEN!!!!)

Amy, hope you enjoy your weekend. (What??? No camping????)

Janice, have fun with those grandgirls!

Michele, remember to drink lots of water while you walk. You're definitely getting your exercise in!

Thanks for the prayers for my Uncle. He is doing well today after open heart surgery on Wednesday in Virginia. He is my Dad's twin brother. Both will be 74 in July.

Glad to see Darlene back and sorry to hear the bad news. Hope things are going well for you this week!

Praying for Michelle's boy's big move and for DonandMary's Don who is traveling in his big truck this week. Ah, still praying for Carolyn! Hope you've had a good week, Carolyn! Need to run by and read up on your news on SP blog!

Tomorrow I will try to walk for four hours in prep for my big walk the next week with area women. Wish me well.

Good morning,

Don't have much time for lots of updating but will let you know that my in-laws are at a different bank today trying to get a loan for their house to be built. It's been quite the ride!

I got the front yard mowed yesterday - have the back to do today.

We're going away this weekend with our kids to a cabin so I need to be getting things ready for that.

God bless!

Darlene - wow! You have been through a lot! Sounds like you are plenty busy!

Amy - happy mowing. I like using that as exercise. Will pray about the house situation (building)

I need to get some paperwork done. Have a great weekend!

Good afternoon, ladies! Yesterday felt like summer, today like winter. I keep putting on more layers to try to fight off the shivers. I am just now having my morning coffee. Maybe that will warm me up.

Amy, did you get the grass cut? Praying that things work out for your hubby to get going on the house.

Hello,

The day is beautiful & sunny. I really need to get my grass cut here at our house!

Hubby just called - he is supposed to be building a house for his mom & step-dad. (They sold their house in just 2 days back in April & have been living with her mom since mid-April). The bank has been kind of giving them the run-around. They wanted a signed contract between hubby & his parents. Now they're wanting a resume on his work! Good grief! I'll be so happy when this is all over! Please say a prayer that once the resume is submitted that it will be the last piece of the puzzle & everything will be given the go-ahead.

Well, I'm going out to do the mowing - more exercise!
