So glad you got her heart rate monitor. I know you have been looking forward to getting it.
Where are you going camping this weekend?

Last night was a very stressful night at my house. I dealt with it and even though I ohhhhh sooo badly wanted a cigarette I did not give in. Boy that was hard! emoticon

Today I am sooo dragging @ss!! I was up for 20 hours straight yesterday, had worked out 2 hours and then only got 4 hours of sleep last night that was not very restful. I was up in time to go to the gym this morning, but I had no ummpphhh to make myself go. I have to get some fitness time in today somehow.

My heart rate monitor came today and I used it. I got this because I was not convinced that sparkpeople calorie calculator is accurate. Well, it was accurate today. I will have to see when I go hiking next if it is accurate. I also realized I am not walking at the intensity I need to. In an hour of walking I was in my target cardio heart rate for 5 minutes. Yikes! It was a little uncomfortable to wear, but I will adjust it tomorrow and see if it is better. Overall I like that instant feedback on the intensity and calories burned.

I am looking forward to my camping trip this weekend. (Oh, and I know I have mentioned this a zillion times, but I am pretty excited to be graduating).

Thanks I will have to check into it. Been thinking of signing up for water aerobics class at Roy. They have one that starts as soon as I get off of work. But I do need to switch up my routine. I walked 3 miles again today on the treadmill & then came home and did yardwork. Was doing good until I had to run an errand and when I went to get out of my car...I was stiff as could be!

At the Clearfield Aquatic center they have two pools, one for recreation and one for laps. It hasn't been too crowded when I have gone. It might be worth checking into.

They have changed the hours at the base pool and it is only open from 6 am to 3 pm. I work from 6 to 330 so I don't have enough time to go anymore. I tried doing the open swim at the Roy pool and it was so packed I could never get into a lane. I just haven't tried the clearfield pool yet. It always looks packed. It's sad because I love swimming! Maybe I need to look into the clearfield pool more.

Just take one day at a time and do the best you can that day. I have realized that if I break my day up into smaller chunks that I do a lot better.

Have you tried swimming lately? It might be just the change you need.

I went swimming on Saturday with my sister. I had a good time. I wish I was a better swimmer though. One of these days I want to compete in a triathon.

I am slowly getting myself back in the groove. I am going to go to the gym tonight and do some cardio. I need to get things in gear so that I will be ready for the 5K I am running this weekend.

I have gained 5lbs in the last month and I want to burn it away.

Thanks Angela. I am determined to kick things up a notch. My weightloss and inches I am losing have stalled and also not happy about that. I have hit a workout plateau I think and need to add some more Umpphh to it to make progress on my weightloss and my stamina.

Thank you for your encouragement Erin. I know I won't be the slowest, but I do want to work on improving my time. A couple of months ago I was at a 18 or 19 min mile so want to get back to that. Kind of let my cardio slide a little. Was more upset with letting it slide than anything else. I've got 4 weeks basically to kick it up a notch so there shoudl be some progress LOL

I know that frustration of not being faster. I swear I can walk as fast as physically possible, but no matter what it ends up taking me 17 minutes a mile. But that is alright, it is for a good cause and no one cares if we are slow. I bet we won't even be the slowest.

OK so this morning at the gym I figured I had better start getting ready for the 5K next month. It took me 60 mins!!! emoticon I even jogged for 2 of those mins. I wasn't out of breath from it but talk about shin splints. OK so I am really going to work on improving this time. I know it's not bad for walking ...makes it about a 20 min mile. I will get there.

I signed up today for the race. Woohoo! And I ordered my heart rate monitor. I ate a giant lunch at Javier's that made me feel like garbage, and I will not have time to hike tonight- boo! But hopefully after tonight I will be done with homework FOREVER!

Nicole, I guess I will have to check it out. I have a 5k on the 21st of April, but that it in the morning. Maybe I will make it over the Ogden Nature Center after the race is done.

I am glad that you are making progress with your smoking. I have never been a smoker, I can only imagine how hard it is to quit. I am recovering alcoholic though, so I can relate to how hard it is to "be good."

The weather has been nice up until now. I should have gone outside for a walk earlier this week.

I will be signing up tonight for the 5K. I just tried to do it from work and the page will not load here. Darnit!! I was happy to see though that there are a lot of walks to sign up for on that site as well. I think I might try some of those too.

Also looks like the Ogden Nature Center has some fun stuff planned for Earth Day on April 21 from 12-4. Angela looks like some fun activities for the kids. Gosh I miss having little ones somtimes.

I have to say that I have had a very good week this week. I am getting my sleep in, my workouts in and eating right on top of quitting smoking last week. I wasn't sure if I would be able to stay on track with not smoking, but found out that working out more is a good way to make me not want a cigarette.

Erin I am going to have to check out your blog on the places you are finding to walk. I want to check some of them out. I did an awesome 5 mile hike last year that I want to do again down in Provo Canyon up to Fifth hot springs.

Hey, I will be walking it with you. I started taking glucosamine about 3 weeks ago, and I went for a walk today and could really tell a difference. None the less, I am not ready to be doing any jogging anytime soon, although I think by the end of the summer I will be.

Took my dogs to Kays Creek Parkway in Layton today and I barely got done before that hail and thunderstorm hit. It was close! Hope you all are having a great week.

Its really not that far. I think you can do it! I think that there will be a lot of other people walking as well. I do not think that you will be last. My kids will be walking with us and they get distracted easily. Don't worry about how you finish, just worry about finishing!

My weekend turned out nothing like I planned. Saturday morning I started feeling yucky so I just cleaned house. Then yesterday I had no umphh whatsoever. Today I am sick. Fever and everything. Not fun. I hardly ever get sick, so I hate this.

Tuesdays and Thursdays sound great to me and 5 pm is a good time. Not sure I will be up for it by tomorrow, but I do want to start. I need to keep myself active in the evenings.

I had a great day today. Went on a long (4 mile, 80 minute) hike with hubby and dogs, and got some yard work done. I am very skeptical about the calorie counter here on SparkPeople, so for my graduation my hubby is getting me a heart rate monitor. He also bought me new trail running shoes today. Not that I run on trails, but maybe one day I will and I get annoyed with hiking shoes. My sister went home today though, so next week we can go back to hiking together. I am thinking maybe we can just have a standing plan of Tues and Thurs nights around 5:00 pm? Like I said before, you are all invited. I am trying to only hike 3 days a week and start walking 5 miles the other 2 days a week. I find walking is using much different muscles than hiking.

Tonight I am indulging- we are going to a movie and I am getting movie theater popcorn with butter- yum! This is my favorite thing to splurge on. Hope you all have a lovely Easter.

Angela I know you can get back at it. This is a 3 day weekend for me and I have so much to do that I have not worked out since Thursday morning and here it is Saturday afternoon. I woke up this morning and kept telling myself....get up and go workout, but my body refused to move. For that I am making myself go tonight...no excuses!! I have got to do this.

I haven't signed up for the 5k yet, but will this Thursday when I get paid. I have to go check the date on it too because my husband is having surgery May 3rd and not sure how he will be getting around for a few days. But I want to do it and so I will sign up and only won't make it if he is totally down, but he should be fine for a few hours no matter what. Plus what a bonus in getting to meet you ladies!!

Off to finish my housework. Easter is tomorrow and its so different having an adult child and no family around. We are having dinner together but spending the day working in the yard as a family.

My Master's is in nursing education. Probably won't change a lot for me right away, but will help open doors down the road. If any of you are interested, I pretty much go hiking everyday during the week around 5 pm. This upcoming week my sister is visiting, but if you all are interested in hiking with me (and SERAPHGYRL), send me a message and we can find somewhere to meet.

I did not go to Wendover with my hubby for St. Pat's. It was him and his best friend that took the fun bus, and it just did not sound like my kind of thing. Thank the lord for the nice weather we are having- I have been hiking nearly every day and my thighs and calves are showing the results. Looking forward to teaching my husband to play tennis this weekend, and my sister is coming to visit next week. And I graduate with my Master's degree April 20th, which means I only have 2 weeks of school left. Yay! emoticon

We can do this!!! I did make it to the track today and walked 40 minutes. Wasn't a lot but it was better than nothing. Plus I stayed on track with my diet. So overall I am happy with today.

Erin were you in Wendover for St Patty's day? I was out there that weekend also. It was a great time.

Angela I know your 5k this past weekend went well. You are so dedicated!!

OK ladies last week was a struggle for me and I can honestly say I maintained my healthy lifestyle only about 50% of the time. Between my husbands ankle and my dog being sick it just got to be too much worrying for me. We did get some answers though. Looks like my husband will either have an ankle replacement or ankle fusion surgery. He is going to another specialist for a second opinion. And found out that we have to switch my dogs seizure meds cause his liver enzymes are out of control. I was so worried he had cancer.

This week I am back on track and going to stay there. Plus I have got to sign up for the 5k at the Ogden Nature Center this week too.

Have fun at your 5K tomorrow! It is going to almost be hot!!! Had a good day today, but I am worn out from our long hike yesterday. And saw The Hunger Games, which was amazing. I highly recommend it.

Life is a fatal adventure, it can only have one end. So why not make it as far-ranging and free as possible?

I have a 5K tommorrow I am soooooo... excited about. I haven't been training as much as I would have liked to, but I still think that I will do good. I am hoping to beat my record of 35 minutes!!

It will be 75 degrees tommorrow!!!!!! WOW!

My name is Erin. My hubby and I went to Jasoh yesterday, and they sell awesome flavored balsamic vinegar and olive oils. If you make your own salad dressings or use olive oil to cook, and you are looking for some excitement- you should go there. They will let you taste whatever you want. They even have chocolate olive oil and espresso balsamic vinegar. Crazy!

I have officially exhausted my dogs. My husband told me under no circumstances was I allowed to walk them today! They are stiff and tired, poor things. So I did water aerobics and gave the pups a break. The weather is going to be real nice by the end of the week, so their break will be over.

My husband went to Wendover this weekend with his buddy. He also drank and ate a lot- but he also won a lot of money, so all in all a good weekend.

Drinking is a hard thing for me- sometimes I just want some vodka. And the problem is I don't want just one shot, a want a few, and I want some coke or some cranberry juice to go with it. Most of the time it just is not worth the calories, but it sure sounds good!

Newerin2012 what is your first name?

I didn't eat very well over the weekend either. We went out to Wendover for our birthdays and had way too much fun and food and alcohol. I was so scared to get on the scale this morning but it actually had gone down 1/2 a lb so I am back on track this week and moving forward.
