Not sure if anyone still stops in and checks this group out, but here's the skinny on me!

I'm still attempting to lose enough weight and get physically fit for the United States Marine Corps. I'm exercising 3-4 days a week and currently in a weight loss challenge for work (I'm currently leading! Lost 3.6lbs this past week!)

I hope everyone else is reaching their goals! I hope to hear from you guys!

Ooh Rah!

Soon-to-be Army recruit Here. I've got a few problems. First, I'm not sure if I want to enlist as a 35M (HUMINT Collector), a 35P (Cryptologic Linguist), or 89D (Explosive Ordinance Disposal). Second, I know that I want to end up as Special Forces (SFOD-D/"Delta Force" if at all possible), but I'm not sure if I want to be an 18C (Engineer Sergeant) or an 18F (Intelligence/Assistant Ops Sergeant). Most importantly, I want to qualify for SF training before I finish AIT, even though I'm not going straight into SF. Hopefully this group will help me accomplish that one.

Hello Team,
I am trying to get into shape to join the Air Force. I am currently 59lbs over the maximum weight limits. I was debating on trying to join OTS, or just straight enlisting. I am currently in the last few months of my BS in Accounting degree, so AFROTC is not really something I am looking into. I spoke with one of the Captains in California, and she recommended Officer Training School. I know that this would be my best bet. Trying to reach my goals to make this dream of mine come true, on the other hand is getting at the best of me. I have been really fluctuating on my weight loss. I started at 238 back in Dec. 2010. I managed to get down to 170 by the following summer. However, I got back into the routine of sitting on my butt, and eating junk. I ended up gaining back almost 40 of those pounds lost. It's been a scary cycle, and I am ready to break it. I need to lose at least 59lbs, but I have the will power to lose more. I know I can do it with the right motivation. I think this team is it. Sorry, I'm practically writing a blog. But anyways, I just need some motivation. Hopefully, I am in the right place. ;)

Starting fresh....

Hey guys,

Figured I'd start it off with a quick hello!

I've been in this team for quite some time and even took over the leadership position. Unfortunately I've slacked in this regard, but now I am attempting to make amends for that.

I'm a future Marine, and am getting my body prepared. I have 55lbs left to lose, and once I do I will become a Devil Dog.

I hope everyone on here that's posted before will reach their dream as well :)

When you have nothing left, maybe it's time to go right.

Hello Everyone,

Thought I'd repel into this group and offer up any advice I can give. As a Marine we always take care of our own, and that also means fellow future brothers/sisters in arms.

As a Formally Active Marine, Forward Observer and Fire Direction Controller, as well as Fitness Coach.

Let me know if I can be of any help to anyone with questions on the military, health, fitness, supplements, whatever... just drop me line.

Semper-Fi,

Nick

Hi everyone
Im new to this team. I have reached my goal weight my problem now is endurance for long run and building muscle. I've been working out 5 days at week, 3 days on weight lifting and 2 days on cardio. I'm trying to add another cardio day but its just hard I need to exercise my brain too lol. Besides that Im studying for my Asvab since I have not done math for years I'm kind of nervous.

I'm joining the USMC once I drop my weight (16lbs more to go!). I want to score 1st class on all my pft, but I'm not sure how well that will go, but if I can get my butt running I'm sure I can score high. My goal is to be able to join in May. I'll keep you guys posted though. The one thing I'm not worried about is my ASVAB. I score high on practice, and when I took it in high school (5 years ago) I scored a 94 and my practice tests still go around that number (flucuate btwn 78-96)

When you have nothing left, maybe it's time to go right.

Hi all... I am going to be joining the Navy once I lose the weight. I have spent so much time letting my sig others tell me what to do I had thought that I missed the opportunity. I may be overweight, but I will do it this time. I am doing it for me and my two sons... and I will do it.

I enlisted in the Air Force today!!! got out of MEPS at 2pm, now i'm just so tired I'm gonna go sleep!!!

I've got many months of DEP ahead of me!I didn't have any problems with any of my tests, and everything went really well.
I had a funny time with the other female enlistees, rocking those paper gowns and otherwise goofing off waiting for our physical.

A long, long day, but I'm glad I finally got to swear in :)

I enlisted in the National Guard this morning!!!

I leave for basic training on April 27th. I'll miss the end of the school year, but this way I can be done with basic and school of music by the beginning of next school year.

MEPS was not as bad as I thought. There were only FIVE of us there today, being a Saturday, and from what I hear that made it a million times easier. I was on the road by 11:30, home by 12:30.

I was extremely close to being disqualified. I failed my hearing test twice, and from what the girl said, that's supposed to be all the chances you get. She gave me a third chance, and said she could tell I was faking it, but somehow I pressed the button enough at the right times to barely pass through. She was a little stern in her mannerisms, but was in reality doing me a huge favor. She was supposed to disqualify me after that second failed test. At first, I wanted to be like "DOES THE FACT THAT I GOT A 94 ON THE ASVAB COUNT FOR ANYTHING?! CAN'T THAT MAKE UP FOR MY HEARING!??" ..apparently that is a good score, I didn't really know what it meant.

As far as my previous surgery goes, the dr. didn't seem to really care. He just wanted to clarify that I wasn't in pain from it, and that all of my Pap's have been normal. He didn't even notice my scars....makes me wonder if I should've just not disclosed it in the first place....but maybe then I wouldn't have gotten such a lenient hearing test administer. I guess it all worked out.

Now to get ready! I've got 7 months!

Well, I'm not pregnant.

My physical is scheduled for September 26, with my ASVAB on the 25th in the afternoon. I'm nervous about my weight, which has shot way up in the past 3 months. Hopefully they'll let a few pounds slide if I'm not going to basic until May!

Well, I'm just checking in...to say that I'm checking out! I have been waiting for a medical waiver forever, and I still have no information. My husband and I were originally planning on trying to conceive around this time, but were willing to put it off another year if the army worked out. The fact that it's taking forever is making both of us wonder what's really meant to be, so we are trying to conceive. If I get pregnant, the army is OUT. If I don't get pregnant quickly and something pulls through with the military, then we'll reconsider things. For now, I'm proceeding as if the army is a no-go - I've been waiting since March, I'm not putting life on hold anymore. Good luck to everyone with their goals!

Hi everyone. I'm new to the page but not to spark. I'm currently getting into the best shape of my life. I'm heading for a career change and plan on joining the Army as an RN. My biggest fear is failing an APFT, so I'm working hard to make sure that I kick butt.

Welcome, Katie and Nichole! Just know that you CAN do it. I couldn't do a single regular push-up when I first auditioned into an Army Band in March - and by May, I could do enough to pass basic! ...I don't know if I still could, I've slacked off lately as I wait for a medical waiver, but I at least know I can do it.

That's great, Nicole! My recruiter called today and he's found a PT buddy for me, too. I'm a bit nervous, but excited. I haven't worked out with people since high school. I hope I don't slow him down too much.

Welcome, Katie! What branch are you looking at? As for tips, run! Watch your calories, carbs, and protein. According to the info I got from my recruiter, you should be eating 3 servings of carbs a day, and 50-75 grams of protein. Only 1-2 fruits. And when you run/exercise, shoot for 30-45 minutes in your target heart rate range. Hope that helps!

Thanks!! I went by my local recruiting office the other day. I talked to some of the guys there.. we talked about the weather, cars, random stuff, things about the military and some not so clean topics.. lol ;) but over all they just gave me a push to really work hard to get where I want to go.. THE MILITARY!! One of them even gave me his number and since then we have worked out twice. It's just a great motivator. I can't wait to join!!

I PASSED MY PHYSICAL!! Finally got the results back. Now just have to set before officer boards, get an age waiver and pass PT test. I can pass the PT test, so the other two are up to the Army if they want me back!

I wish I could do even 5 push-ups at once! Going to run now, hopefully get some strength training in, make supper and clean up, head to a rehearsal. I think we should do a challenge that involves push-ups....but I'd need a modified version! ....or perhaps something that helps develop muscles used in pushups...different dumbbell exercises? If I create a dumbbell challenge, how many people have the resources to participate?

I am trying to do push-ups every other day in sets of 25+ at a time, trying to do 5 sets a day. Plus other strength training. I think when the PT test comes around I will be able to do more.

This morning ran 3 miles in 27 minutes, was feeling better as I got to the end.

I've slacked off a lot on my push-ups. I haven't done many for the last two weeks. I think I'm going to restart the Hundred Push-up program on column 2 or 3, doing modifieds until I can do 100 with good form. I'm also going to start doing 20 wall push-ups every time I hit the head.

My run time is currently 2.5 miles at 34minutes. Not great, but considering I couldn't run for a full minute back in October, I think I'm doing ok (especially since I slacked off in Nov and Dec.)

That's why I threw strength and running into the challenge. We all need to be able to do them.

a personal trainer would be nice. What I really need is someone to just force me to get to the gym and work out with me.

(I am really hoping the Army and PT will finally push me over the top!)

It will get better. I'm having a horrible time with running. I'm lucky to be able to run half a mile but I'm working up to it with a set schedule. I can pump out modifieds but standards I started with 11 or 12 and can now get close to 15 without breaking form. I got lucky and have my own personal trainer when I go to the gym on base. He's been a big help even though sometimes I want to throw a dumbbell or two at him.

Thanks!

I'm trying to build up by doing modified push-ups ,keeping my knees on the floor. As far as standard push-ups go, I could do ONE at the beginning of the week - now I can do TWO - hah!

My 2 mile run is supposed to be at 20:36 to get a 50. Today when my time was at 20:20 I was at 1.45 miles. So, I have a little work to do!

I have trouble with them, too. I've found that working on upper body and arm strength is a big help and practice makes perfect! Welcome to the team!

Just keep working on the pushups. The number you can do will rise quickly.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Christine, and I'm looking to join a National Guard band. My audition is on March 7th, and from there we'd get the ball rolling with everything else. I'm a music teacher, so I'm hoping to go to basic training in late May or early June, in time to return in August and start school all over again...and then School of Music next summer to complete training...

I am a few pounds under the height/weight standard, so I don't need to worry about LOSING weight, but I seriously need to kick my butt in shape!(and make sure I don't gain ANYTHING!) I'm most worried about push-ups. Here we go!

Whatever floats your boat. Josh hates it and can't wait to be out. Not sure it's the job he hates so much or the Reserves. He's been there from when they were a SOCom unit to when they switched to actually being in the reserves command and it has made some big differences. I hear the AD side isn't so bad as long as you don't mind Ft. Bragg. I did not like that place one bit. Ft Bragg and No Hope Pope are two posts I never want to be assigned to.

Maybe hard to believe but I have made an argument that with an undergrad degree in Psychology and a doctorate in law that if JAG didn't have openings PychOps might be a good fit....

Heh, only if you're looking for a PsyhOp slot. He's actually not trying to become a civillian, just transfer over into te same AF unit I'm in so that we can work somewhat together and not have to coordinate so much.

Home from oral surgery, whole bottom of mouth and lips are still numb. Other than that still feel pretty good. I am trying to be confident that I will be back to exercising, at least the aerobic, tomorrow, and strength training by Sunday.

I have completed all the tasks I needed to re-join the Army! Now I just need to get the ball rolling!

(I didnt see the challenges for this team were created!! Sorry I missed them, next month I will get in on them, my real hope would be last month as a civilian!!)

Great to see some participation here! My apologies to everyone for being a little slow on the boards this week. Little one had strep throat, husband went back to work (first real job since he got home from the sandbox) and I think we are buying a house. It's been a heck of a week and now that hubby and I both have a three-day weekend I am doing my best to catch up. How is everyone's program going? Setbacks, progress, motivation? Clue me in, let me know. What can I do to help? What team goals/challenges can I set to help everyone out?

Very nice to meet you, Mariyta, and welcome to the team! Tonight I am working on the team and trying to rouse some of our other members. I'm brainstorming some goals and challenges for us to start so please contribute your ideas and let me know what some of your personal goals are so that we can incorporate them! I'm always reachable and I check this page and my mail repeatedly throughout the day. I'm here for you!

Hi there. I just joined (looking to join the Marines in October), so bring on the challenges! I have a lot of work to do in a short time, so I'm all for it.

I have a meeting with a trainer at the base gym next week, so far that's as far as I've gotten. Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. It's been an extremely hect two weeks with the holidays and all. I will be on here daily from now on. Really though my plan is mostly watching what I eat and spending some quality time at the gym. I'm lucky I live close to Whiteman Air Force Base and have their fitness center at my disposal for free. I found that they offer strength training and cardio 101s so I asked for the strength training one. I go in Tuesday to meet with a trainer that is going to give me a microfit test and show me how to use the equipment correctly. He's also supposed to help me design a workout plan to get me where I need to be.

Hey folks, I just wanted to see if anybody was still checking this team at all? I was interested in starting some challenges or setting some goals with anybody who's interested. Please contact me if you are interested. I'm really disappointed with this team; I was truly hoping to find some great motivation on here.
