Favorite doctor is David Tennant - but just started watching the series a month ago and only just finished the episode where ten regenerates... oh the tears... totally lost it when I heard those four knocks... so he's my favorite right now.

Anyway, looking forward to watching the Matt Smith's series - and will be properly caught up by August 23rd!

I'm a new day rising - I'm a brand new sky to hang the stars upon tonight!

Keep moving forward!

Hello everyone! I'm Alana, and my favorite doctor is David Tennant. I've not watched Classic Who, but I'd like to.

ETA: My favorite companion hands down is Donna Noble. With a close second going to The Ponds.

All time - #5, Peter Davison, probably like other people said - you never forget your first Doctor.

New series - David Tennant, but it's always been an ongoing cycle:

1. "I don't like this new Doctor."
2. "The new Doctor is okay, but he'll never be as good as the last one."
3. "I really like this new Doct- wait, what do you mean, there's a new one coming?"
4. See #1.

Hi,

I was introduced to Doctor Who shortly into Eleven's reign but the episode was Ten's "Silence in the Library." I was thoroughly confused because I had no backstory and went on Amazon to figure out what was going on. Ten is so impossibly charming that I had to like him best of the new three, but Nine was a close second. Never quite believed Matt as an authority figure, although he was quite fun. I actually liked Amy, River and Rory more. Of the earlier Doctors, I'd have to say Four - probably because he was ahead of his time in his combination of wisdom and goofiness. ;)

May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Matt Smith for sure (his doctor was just so epic and his acting was amazing....he pulled off 1000 year old man inhabitting a baby-faced body so well). Tennant is a close second. I never really got into Eccleston...but that may also be bc I never really got into Rose (though I did like BP as the Moment in the 50th.

I may be going slowly at my own pace, but I'm beating all those watching from the sidelines.

My favorite Doctor is the first Doctor I was introduced to, Tom Baker. But I also really like David Tennant and after all....the Doctor IS the Doctor, so I guess we should like them all, lol!

I'm just an Eccleston girl. Going by the fact that we were missing a Doctor for years, I supposed that makes him the 10th after all this time. LOL. I love David to pieces and he was AMAZING; probably the best for the role since Tom Baker. But just as my favorite T-Shirt says:

"You never forget your first Doctor."

I never did like Matt Smith. He just seemed to "mad cap" for someone who had been through so much. Ironically, after watching the 50th Anniversary show, I have a greater appreciation for his character choices. When Rose describes him as the one who "chooses to forget". It is a coping mechanism for the tragedy of he Time War.

David Tenant is still my favorite. Do we have to renumber them now. He was 10. Is he now 11?

I plan to watch the Anniversary show again this evening.

Tennant is my favorite! He was my first doctor. I stumbled upon "Silence in the Library", and stayed to watch Alex Kingston, who I loved from ER. Of course they didn't show part two of that episode. It then wasn't until Feb 2010 when I watched it from the reboot start. Found it on Netflix while I was off two weeks from work, sick. Because I didn't know anything about the show, when I watched "Rose" I stopping almost right at the beginning cause I was like, those weren't the people I saw in that one episode...googled the show and found out the show was about a regenerating timelord, and the guy I saw was in the next season. Went back and watched season one and was hooked even before I saw another Tennant episode.
Smith is my best friend's favorite doctor, so he's going through what I did when Tennant regenerated. I'm excited to see how Peter does!

David Tennant is definitely my favorite! I haven't really been able to get into Matt Smith as the Doctor, always seemed like he was trying to imitate David or something. I do like his newest companion, Clara, though. Glad she is coming back and excited to see what the newest actor with do with the Doctor.

10 is my favorite of the new Doctors - David Tennant is brilliant. I've watched some classic Who also, and Peter Davison (5th Doctor) is my favorite of the older Docs. I was at Time Traveler weekend at the PA Renaissance Faire this past weekend and got to meet (people dressed as) The 2nd, 4th, 9th, 10th and 11th Doctors all at the same time!

Must say I like them all, but 10 is my Doctor. I was introduced to Who with 10, one episode and I was hooked and went back and watched all of them until I was caught up. I had a very hard time loving Matt Smith I think because I thought he was a bit young, but he grew on me. Looking forward to what 12 will bring. :)

New to the group. I love all the Doctors. Each one brings something to the table that makes the character more dynamic. Ten was my first Doctor and he does have a special place in my heart but Eleven is my favorite. He's in my favorite episodes (even though Ten has some really good ones) and there is this darkness him that I think is just startling and awesome all at the same time.

I don't think I could choose one. I love them all for different reasons. 9 and 10 were hard to let go of... and I know 11 is about to finish up soon and it makes me sad. I've grown to love his playfulness a nd his awkward sexiness. This show is the best.

I saw a really funny clip on YouTube today with David Tennant and Catherine Tate. He uses his Scottish brogue in it and I loved it.

SHEEP : Do they dream about 10? Happened to me this week...pleasantly strange ( I have to say ). Possibly, I've been watching WAY too much lately (said no one in the history of time and space lol) SEXYMOMMA: I'm in about the same place, just finishing season 4 and I'm losing my mind because it's such an awesome ending but I can't bear to say goodbye to 10! (though since you say he's alright, I guess I can give Matt Smith a chance)

So, I must say. David Tennant will always be my favorite. I actually JUST finished season 4 last night. I literally put off watching part 1 and 2 of the season finale, because I convinced myself that if I didn't watch it, Ten would forever remain the Doctor. Seriously, I'm slightly obsessed with Tennant. But.. I finally finished season 4 and started season 5, and I gotta say, although Matt Smith is no Tennant, I'm enjoying him. He's pretty funny, and the first episode of season 5 with him going through the food was just HILARIOUS.

Seriously though, I mean, the end of season 4 was sad enough since 10 would be no more. But when he said "I don't want to go" I lost it. My heart broke into 100 million pieces and I bawled my eyes out.

Christopher Eccleston hooked me on Doctor Who, but I love, love, love David Tennant. Lol to LeanAndFree with the tongue thing. My husband and I watch to see if he does that at all as the Doctor.

I am new to the series (like about a month) so I haven't seen 11 yet. I can't imagine loving him the way I do David Tennant though.

Eccleston! My first Doctor was Tennet but I never really got into him for some reason. Smith is my 2nd place though! I am just about to start the very beginning of the series ( netflix has it on their instant) and look forward to seeing it all from the very beginning.

My favorite doctor would definitely have to be David. He was my first doctor, and I've loved him since day 1! emoticon The first episode I ever seen was The Waters of Mars. Then, I'd have to say Eccleston. I'm going back and watching his episodes in order right now since I got newWho seasons 1 and 5 for Christmas!!! I haven't really watched any of the older series. I did watch the movie...Most people probably would tell me I'm crazy for kind of actually liking it, but I did lol! I love Matt too, but David will always always always be my Doctor!

Favorite Doctor would have to be Ten. Don't get me wrong I adore Matt Smith but David Tennant just did it for me. I've only watched 9, 10, and 11 though so if I ever have a chance to go back and watch the classic Doctor Who episodes my opinion might change but it's not likely.

Eccelston is definitely my favorite. I was very sad to see him go, and found myself not really liking Tennant at first because he was replacing him. But I like him now too, just not as much :)

Hello all. I've loved Dr Who for years.I remember watching when I was a ki and I'm so glad to find this team. I don't have anyone to talk to about Dr Who. My daugher rolls her eyes at me when she sees me watching it. She calls ms a geek :) My favorite Dr is Tom Baker. I did like David Tennent (was sad when he left) but I am liking Matt Smith more and more

My first and favourite Doctor was Tennant (I even had my DVDs autographed by him!).

But I started watching "original" series and I really fell in love with all of them, lol. emoticon At the moment I'm at season 12 and I just find Tom Baker fantastic. emoticon

My first day as a member of this team. Since I've been a Whovian for many years I have to say my favorite doctor (like for so many) is my first - Tom Baker. I knitted the scarf 3 times - for a good friend, for my brother (his daughter wishes he still had it so she could raid it), and for me.
Of the 3 new doctors I would say David Tennant is my favorite but they all have good points. "Fantastic!" and "Bow ties are cool" are great lines.

Tennant, hands down. He was my first, and you never forget your first. However, Matt Smith has grown on me. I didn't like him at first just because he replaced Tennant, but the personality that he has brought to the Doctor is wonderful.
I really need to watch some Classic Who, my experience there is lacking. Maybe once I've seen some of the other Doctors I'll have a new opinion.

I have to make a comment on Cheeky's comment about the Doctors BEFORE and teasers and all that! When they brought in Derek Jacobi and WE who had watched WHO for all those years before realized that he was THE MASTER!!!!!! I think that put the old timers a step or two ahead of the newbies.

Y'all were saying, Oh, The Master? and we were clutching our throats and yelling "NOT The MASTER!" Lol! Or at least that's how it was in our house! emoticon

A cross between Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. I had been really attached to 9 and was disgusted at the "little boy" they had replaced him with. lol, but I soon got over that. emoticon

For me, in order (I don't know enough about Doctors 1-3, 6, or 7 to say):

1. David Tennant
2. Peter Davison
3. Tom Baker
4. Christopher Eccleston, Matt Smith and Paul McGann (just because I like Paul McGann and no other reason) in a three-way tie.

Every Doctor is different. I love all of the new Doctors because they bring something new to the role. I loved Tennant because be was so emotional and tortured, but I am glad that Smith seems more playful and madcap. Although I may like Smith a lot right now because he reminds me of Hartnell and Baker, two of my absolute favorites!

At first, I was so upset that Eccleston was gone and they had Tennant, but after 2 episodes, he became my doctor. So while you never forget your first, sometimes, the next one is so much more memorable.

It took me a while to get over Eccleston, and now it's a tough adjustment to Smith... But I do like the new portrayal a lot. The episodes are more polished, though, so maybe I'm being seduced by that...

Oh I'm a 10 girl all the way, though I am immensely fond of Tom Baker. I want to see some of Sylvester McCoy's episodes because he's playing Radagast the Brown in Peter Jacksons Hobbit. I need to make sure he's a good actor.

9 was technically my first doctor, and I thought he was cool and all, I kept watching, and then I met 10. I absolutely fell in love with 10. Then he regenerated into the big chinned one...

I have varying emotions about Smith. I feel like his Doctor is really erratic, very bossy...and really aloof. After you get used to Tennants talking to people, and making friends with everyone, Smiths sudden "You're here to please me" attitude kind of ticked me off.

One thing can be said: The Doctor and Vincent is an amazing episode.

I'm a long time Whovian. Unlike most people, however, my first doctor is not my favorite. My first was Tom Baker. And while I do love him, he's not my favorite. I've seen at least one episode of every doctor except 8.

Classic Who my favorite is a tie between Jon Pertwee and Peter Davidson.

New Who is a tie between David Tennant and Matt Smith.

Over all, as the Doctor, I prefer Tennant to Smith. But I do like what Smith is doing with the role, and I really like what Moffatt is doing with the story line.

Not growing up in the UK, I was only introduced to Doctor Who when my English husband showed me some old eps from his childhood and I wasn't impressed. At all. David got me interested in the Doctor, but didn't get me hooked, either. Matt Smith I have completely and utterly fallen in love with. I love him and Amy and Rory and Riversong and the whole storyline.
I even met Karen Gillan last weekend at the London Film & Comic Con and had a photo w/ her and the Tardis

Skyfrog, you're right!! I remember thinking the same thing, and just assumed they were putting off any mention of it. Or I thought maybe I'd just somehow missed a reference.

Because David himself had been such a fan of the show growing up, he had a "feel" for the role and could bring a certain connection to his previous incarnations and companions. However, Matt never saw the show, didn't even know what it was about really, before he got the role, so his over the top antics come from a place of not truly understanding The Doctor...just behaving like a 12 year old on LSD. lol

While I do like Moffat's ability to add teasers about the future (the references to Silence from the beginning of his series), I wonder why he chose not to reward loyal viewers with those little tidbits of memory. To be fair though, CE's doctor did very little reminiscing about previous companions, etc (though he did offer some teasers). Having never seen any of the pre-CE Whos, I don't know if they made comments like that or not.

Nothing will ever be as great as Doctor/Donna - that was an amazing season.

I don't like the new Doctor - not because he's young, not because Amy Pond is an annoying twit. I don't like him because he has no memory of his previous adventures. I haven't watched this season, but the first season with Matt Smith was like a whole new show. No memories of Sara Jane, K9, When David Tennant puts on the gas mask and ask "Are you my mommy?", it just cracked me up! And not even one mention of Rose?

I think I just really miss Russell T. Davies.

I'm not the least bit original, evidently. I adore David Tennant (and his trusty cohort and best companion, Donna). I do NOT adore Matt Smith. Fortunately, the show's writers are so good that I keep watching. Actually, Matt's not as bad as Amy Pond. I keep hoping she'll meet some tragic fate and end up in a parallel universe like her predecessor, Rose. I really like Rory and River Song (they make continued viewing worth it). While working out, I've been watching DT episodes. Matt just lacks a certain amount of credibility that comes with maturity. I know the writers want him to be childlike, but a 10 year old throwing a tantrum isn't amusing. Plus, no one does a lengthy rant as well as DT--a skill he carries into his role as Hamlet.

I also am a fan of David Tennant, he was the Dr. when I restarted watching the show after it became available here in Texas and I think he's just great. Matt Smith is growing on me though. I agree with your Little brother comment he does kind of make you think of an annoying little brother who's always getting into everything in a cute way LOL. I'm looking forward to the next season. On Netflix they have ALL the Dr. Who shows even from years and years ago when it first started. It is fun seeing how the Dr's change over the years. My Mother In Law knitted my husband the Dr. Who scarf that one of the old Dr's used to wear years ago it is like 6 feet long and striped! LOL

David Tennant will always and forever be the Doctor to me. But I do like Matt Smith very much. He is growing on me. More like a little/older brother that you want to smack upside the head and take care of at the same time. While David was more like the amazing man that you realize years later you never should have let get away.
I like Amy and Rory. Couldn't stand Martha. Am iffy about Rose. And loved Donna Noble. The doctors do so much better when they have a friend instead of a wanna be love interest along.
One thing Matt Smith has going for him, I think the writing is even better than it was for Tennant.

I have only seen the recent reboot of the show so I am not familiar with the earlier Doctors. When I first watched the show I was sure no one would be better than Christopher Eccleston but during the first episode of season two David Tennant stole my heart completely. He is so mad cap and brilliant. I love how random he can be and how his cheery demeanor thinly veils the dark side of his personality. He is my Doctor for sure! I do have to say that I quite like Matt Smith though and look forward to the coming season!

Tennant is my favorite. I love him, love him. those who think he's flippant, he's just seen a lot and he knows he can deal with it.
Smith I like because he's kind of goofy and nerdy. He's a good doctor. But Tennant is my first love.

If you'd gotten me a while ago I would have said nine, but I'm all about eleven now.

I really liked 9, his sadness and his exuberance, his fumbling attempts at morality, but I felt he was kind of dry. I really loved 10's pop culture references and silly air, but his flippant attitude toward everything, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," and the whole Martha and Donna fiascos really made me angry.

Eleven has everything I like about both, a balance between the weird morality of both of the previous Doctors, and a sort of fatherly air, very first Doctor, which is about the only thing I like about the first Doctor. There's also his obvious, lampshaded, dorkiness. Bowties are cool, and all.

Not to mention, Matt Smith has this very alien look about him. I believe it was Craig Ferguson who said he had an Easter Island face? That's just perfect for the Doctor.

I would not say I was disappointed by any of the doctors indeed I really like most of them but if I HAD to choose I would say Pertwee.

I'm torn between Tennant and Tom Baker. Matt Smith is certainly fun but he just doesn't seem to have the charisma of Tennant. But really, they're all fabulous :)

TENnant
Smith
Eccleston

In that order, but Smith is quickly overtaking TENnant. I like the way Moffat writes as opposed to RTD, who tortured 10 constantly. Although DT did tortured, my two hearts are breaking BRILLIANTLY (those EYES-squee!)

Okay love Matt Smith. Amy hopefully will go away. I like Rory as a companion he seems to balance 11 out a little.

I like DT he will always be in my heart, but Matt is so old and new at the same time.

I love them both when they are with Riversong. emoticon

I have to jump in here and say that David Tennant is my favorite Doctor. He was my first and while I have seen many others, I think he best portrayed the tortured-soul-who-has-seen-and-lost-so-muc

n-all-of-its-forms thing that makes the character of the Doctor so appealing to me. I loved Eccleston, too, and Pertwee. And Baker.

I'm not sold on the new guy. I don't think he loves anything but being weird, which isn't as compelling to watch. And I don't buy that he is 900+ years old.

Ohh, how to pick? Ten is my favorite for 'talkative and pretty', and Nine is it for 'dark and sexy'. (That's as close as I can come at picking.)

My favorite New Doctor is David Tennant.

Overall, it is a toss up between Tom Baker and David Tennant.

GinaV2 - Yeah, I heart all the Doctors in my own way. And yes, I too find Amy Pond grating. I was hoping they'd get rid of her for season 6...alas, my wish didn't come true. :-)

Netflix has a HUGE collection of DW episodes - some of DW #2, 3 and 4 are availabe on Instant Viewing too!

Nine was my first Doctor and I loved him dearly. I was actually put off by Ten when DT first took over, but then he just kept growing on me and now Ten is my favorite, hands down. I think I could really like Eleven but I find Amy Pond so distasteful that it's skewing my view of Eleven, too.

As for classic Who I've only seen One and Four, but One is awesomely curmudgeonly and I love Four's dry British wit. Apparently I have yet to see a Doctor I didn't like, though Ten is the Doctor I think of as mine. Hmm, I wonder if Netflix has episodes with 2,3,5,6,7 and 8...

I have to admit, Nine is my favorite, merely because he was my first doctor. I loved Ten's energy and his dedication to the role, I think he played it VERY well, but you'll never forget your first Dr. :)

To be honest, I've only seen the first two episodes of the fifth series. Matt Smith seems okay-ish. Ish.

Just started watching the New Docotor Who's and I instantly fell in love with Christopher Eccleston. I was sad to see him go after the first season.

I feel as though David Tennant was the best doctor of them all. I was crying when I watched Tennant's last episode. The writing is amazing! The littlest details always come back, nothing is left unanswered. Especially about the Bees disappearing.
Not really a fan of Matt Smith's, he seems to be quick to anger and bad transitions in the dialogue. But as the season goes on, he's getting more into the Doctor Who style.

This is always difficult!

I actually have three answers in different categories! I know that's cheating but I don't care! :) In truth, it's hard for me to pick a favorite because I really have enjoyed them all so much for different reasons... but here goes:

Favorite Classic Series Doctor: Tom Baker. I know a lot of people say that but he was my first and even when I go back he is definitely still the best Classic Doctor.

Favorite Big Finish Audio Doctor: Paul McGann. Say what you will about the TV movie, Paul McGann was great in it. And he's only gotten better in the Big Finish audios.

Favorite New Series Doctor: Matt Smith. I can't believe how quickly he's supplanted Chris and David, but he has. I didn't LOVE all of series 5 but Matt was uniformly amazing. Everything I'd want in a Doctor.

Decisions, decisions! Well you always remember your first which was Tom Baker for me, him and his madcap ways! I remember being totally freaked out by an episode with Peter Davison, it had something to do with a snake tattoo, brrrrr. Jon Pertwee was funny with his funky car. But I was never a huge fan, not until Chris Eccleston! Even my Mum watched Dr Who with him and she always hated it! So I think the three latest Doctors are equal for me because they have all captured and created something truly special with the character! X M

Oh, I'm so happy I found you folks! I'm not just a fan of Doctor Who, I'm obsessed! With the series and with Torchwood!

My first Doctor was Tom Baker, whom I watched as a child; it was dubbed into Spanish as "El Doctor Misterio." Since the revival of the series, I've been back to watch all the Doctors, starting with William Hartnell (thanks Netflix!), who is my least favorite. I have yet to watch any DW with Docs #6, 7 or 8 (the American movie). So, for now I'll say my favorite is David Tennat's Doctor. Though Matt Smith has managed to capture my imagination this season.
