Unfortunately despite how much he loved the part, I know there was some bad blood behind the scenes, and ultimately... well, Chris is a fantastic actor but an odd guy. I would give somebody else's right arm (what? I need mine!) to see him in the special, but I knew he'd never do it to start with so... ah well.

What a bummer. It would have been great to have all three of the new Doctors in the anniversary episode. Eccleston was so enthusiastic when he agreed to be the Doctor in the reboot, but it seems like he has wanted nothing to do with the show since he decided to stop at one season.
I read that both Tennant & Piper will join Smith & Coleman in the 50th anniversary episode. Also that John Hurt (according to the report, this was revealed in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine) will be in the episode that will air November 23rd (50 years to the air date of the first episode). Also read that Joanna Page will be in the episode.

We saw our first images of rehearsals for the official 50th Anniversary Doctor Who episode this weekend, and there were pictures taken of both Smith and Tennant holding a script in their hands. It is also rumored that Jenna-Louise Coleman and Billie Piper will be part of the episode.
