Yesterday was Cardio Strip night. My daughter had the van so I took my bike. I'm still learning to ride again so on many of the uphills I ended up walking. So it was 45 mins of cardio, 15 minute intense abs workout and about 20 mins of biking/walking.

I also did a few other strength training moves, some triceps dips, V sits with twist and reverse plank for 3 min hold.

I got up early and went for a run, it took me about 15 minutes. Tonight I have a softball game and that will make up the rest of the time (the game is about 1 1/2 hour long)

My son forgot his lunch so I did a round trip 20 min walk to bring it to him and an hour deep water aerobics class. It really works me out and my arms were SO tired after all the gardening I did on the weekend. Still lots more to do but I made some headway.

Our weather is still bouncing all over the place, Saturday was hot like mid-summer, Sunday was a more spring like day and today it's raining. I have put in some flowers but I will save my tomatoes until next weekend just to be safe in case there is still a frost.
the BHG website has lots of great garden plans for starting from scratch. I started from scratch here about 7 years ago, it's still a work in progress.

I have no idea how many calories I burned off yesterday, but I was in the valley and it was hot! At least 10 degrees hotter than on the coast where I live. I dropped my daughter off at the college, parked the car and walked to the stores to shop. 20 minute fast walk each way. Then I walked around the campus for another hour waiting for her. finally picked her up, salad lunch and shopping. Several hours of "mosying" around the stores, and did I tell you it was hot???

don't know if I burned a lot of calories, but I did burn a big hole in my credit card...

I didn't do anything cardio yesterday, but today I got in the pool for an hour and did laps. I've been trying the deep water aerobics as a laps exercise without the buoyancy belt and I find it really raises my heart rate. I also have hope that I'll be able to do the class without a belt. But Spark shows water jogging as less calorie burn than breast stroke. I don't think so. They must mean with a belt to support you because without I find I'm much more winded than doing breast stroke.

My daughter studied there last winter so she has to go back today for marks and all that, I will walk there while I am waiting for her for 2 hours. Long way to go for just two hours, but they want all the students there. It is a cute town and I always enjoy looking at different scenery when I walk.

Well I got a 40 min walk in the sunshine this morning. I had to drop the car off for maintenance at the dealer and walked back. Chilly out but quite nice, lots of gardeners in their yards.

I've got cardio strip this aft with a chaser of Fab Abs so that will give me my hour plus the 40 this morning and I might even take my bike for a spin if the weather stays nice.

Yesterday I did my deep water aerobics class for an hour. I'm almost at the stage of trying to do it without the buoyancy belt. Only one woman does that, and she is a world class paddler so I'm not sure if I could do it.

Today I got to the pool and did an hour of laps. I want to get a push on because I haven't lost any weight in a month and I'd still like to lose 7 or 8 lbs. I practiced some of the deep water aerobics moves without a belt and some of them are hard to do but I'm sure I can build up to it. I'm really fast in class now so if I go without a belt that will put me in with the pack and not ahead anymore.

I also bought Rodney Yee's Yoga Burn DVD. I was at Chapters and saw it and couldn't resist. I keep borrowing it from the library and I really NEEDED my own copy.

I am not one for dance bars for the same reason but this wasn't too bad. Everyone left us alone to dance (just us girls) and the place wasn't too crowded. I didn't like all the music (too much dance and techno) but it was fun anyway though. No drinking for me though, I had water all night!

Oh wow, I love to dance! I can dance all night long but I hate bars. Too many desperate and predatory vibes for me. I've never found one where I don't get hit on by someone who is drunk or a foreigner who doesn't speak much English and think he is God's gift to women.

I got my 60 on the Nordic Track today so I'm happy. (and yucky sweaty! Blech!)

I only got half hour walk in yesterday, went with my son on a field trip and we walked to and from the Sportsplex for the Police Exhibits. I did do some strength exercises. I find they are easy to slip in in a moment or two. I do one legged squats and I did triceps dips on the footstool in the livingroom.

Cheryl, don't worry about how little you do, work up to it. I lost 35 lbs over 3 yrs and I still remember starting out when a 20 min walk around the pond was a BIG DEAL for me. I remember how hard it was to talk myself into it. Now, 20 min around the pond is a small workout for me, I usually do an hour around the lake and when the rink is open I'll skate an hour in the day and then often will do deep water aerobics later.

It is nothing for me to do 2 hrs of cardio. But the point is, you start where you are at and work at it and get comfortable with that level of exercise. When that becomes ho hum easy, then move it up a notch, add 5 more minutes or sometimes depending on your daily life you can add a walk to somewhere or whatever. If I can go from nothing to 20 mins daily to where I am today, I'm sure you can do it.

If anything I think if you push too hard that you get discouraged or sore and then you won't want to do it. Hang in!

Theresa

I actually enjoy walking, when it's warmer out. the gym at work is great and I like not having those muscle bound jocks and pert little teenagers around like at the public gym...nothing against those people, just that I feel my own imperfections more when around them. the one thing that I still have trouble with is taking the time for the strength exercises...

Yesterday I did 30 mins on the rebounder in the living room. I started with the Caribean workout girls but they stopped cardio and started weights so I just kept bouncing. 45 mins of Cardio Strip class and 15 minutes of abs workout plus another 15 minutes of strength exercises. Lots of exercise. But lately my motivation is so low. Crappy rain.

I'm doing my own version of circuit training today - bowflex, AB video, and then gazelle! Just heading to do that now, I'll make sure to get at least 30 minutes in.

I managed to get 6 of the exercises in today and after work i worked out in the gym (it's new) at work, 15 minutes on the bike and 15 on the treadmill inclined. It felt great. I had to work off that slice of pizza I had for lunch, though i was surprised when I entered in everything I ate today that I hadn't really gone over my goal. Shrimp kabobs for supper...they were great and six shrimp only have 32 calories. I love them!!!

I went for a run last night as I had a busy day. It only took me 17 minutes so I didn't get my 30 in but I did do 70 minutes the day before so I'm covered.

I got up early and took the dog for an hour walk around the lake. Beautiful and quiet. I should have brought my gloves though. Chilly.

Good job DAle!

I took the dog for the same walk but at a more leisurely pace. I have had a long day! It took me about 50 minutes.

I've been pushing myself more to get the strength exercises in regularly, I tend to get the cardio in ok, but I am so bad at the other fitness exercises. i made up a challenge for myself to get those in as well. I did them first thing this morning, 2 reps of each (10 exercises) and I feel great about it. Now to push myself to do it again tomorrow.

I started running some because my dog is big and really holds back when we are walking. Sometimes she will push me with her snout. I ran a 5k for April Fools Day with one of the teams (really walk and run) and that is how I was doing it. I use telephone poles though. I run for two and walk for one or if I'm on a downhill or nice flat I'll just run as long as I can.

Today I got on the bike my boyfriend gave me and did a run around the lake with my son. Not bad for not having ridden in 20 years or so. Then I took the dog for a walk to make up another 30 mins of cardio.

Ok, haven't been getting my cardio but did the Ab workout yesterday and the bowflex. Today my goal is cardio of some sort!!

Merab, thats really great though! I really wanted to try running and I hear thats how you're supposed to start, with the run/walk intervals. I don't think running is going to be in my future though with this back of mine. If I ever manage to get my weight way down I may get some good shoes and try it just to see if my back can take it.

I took the dog for a psuedo run today. I want to be a runner but I hate running! anyway, I ran for 5 walked for 1, ran for 5 walked for 1, ran for 5 walked for 2 then ran another 3 and walked another 1. total of 18 minutes running adn 5 minutes walking. I still need another 7 minutes to make my May challenge target but I have time even at dinner I may go for a walk!

I'm still sick and having a hard time getting my exercise in. But I've been closer to the low end of my calories for two days which is a big challenge for me.

I did the 45 min cardio strip class and tried to really work it. 15 minute abs strength and another 15 mins of other strength at home (push ups and one leg squats.

It is beautiful today and I should walk the lake.

I didn't get a chance to exercise today but after my walk to the dentists office yesterday I also walked the dog to and from the post office and after that a 40 minute walk with a girlfriend so I am covered. I still feel guilty for not exercising today though.

I was bummed yesterday as weigh in had me 5 lbs heavier than my low weight. On our yahoo weight loss group the leader doesn't show gains because you can gain and lose the same lbs each month with fluctuation, so only the low is kept till you lose again. Less depressing that way.

I got my deep water aerobics class in and I was good about my eating so this morning I'm back on track. I find the deep water is the most intense exercise I do all week and it feels great. I also did my regular strength training and I'm concentrating on doing one set of max reps for each exercise. I don't do weights so it is hard sometimes to find exercises that use body weight and can be adapted as you improve. I'm still working on it.

And my son forgot his lunch at school so I did about a 20 min walk in the sun to bring it to him.

So, total exercise was 1 hr 50 mins, 1 hr 20 mins cardio. A good day for me. And I need a few good days, I've been stalled at weight for some time now.

bowflex is mainly strength training. I really did see a difference last year when I was using it. The only part of mine that would work for cardio is the rowing exercise. I really like the bowflex. I've wasted money on other machines but this one is a keeper.

Could you consider the bowflex cardio or do you think it is strictly strength training...like I said, I am thinking of getting one.

Yesterday I was beat from driving my kid to a paintball tournament and back. All day laying in the back of the van waiting for him to be done.

My boyfriend called though and wanted to walk around the lake and I was so glad I went. I really enjoyed it as the wind had died down and watching the sun go down was so beautiful. It was a nice walk. So I got my 60 mins in.

I love the fact that heavy cleaning is counted as exercise because it is very hard work and often goes unnoticed. Good for you!

I took a 40 minute walk with the dog and at 6 pm I have a 2 hour football practice...

Hi there

yesterday I did the Tony Little Ab workout. I can definitely feel that today. That was only about 10 minutes so I didn't get the 30 min in. Today though I worked up a sweat while house cleaning!! I checked that in the fitness section and according to that 1 hour burns more that 300 calories! I did at least an hour of heavy cleaning today.

Today isn't looking good for exercise. I have a birthday party to go to tonight, themed alcohol and ice cream and it is raining out. I've got a splitting headache so just moving around the house is a pain. Oh poop, I hate this.

I only got a 30 min walk in yesterday. I started up to Mic Mac and then the sky opened up and the dog and I got soaked. I had to go see my daughter acting at Dramafest so I didn't have time to do any more set cardio but I did walk a lot through Halifax and up and downstairs at the arts building at Dal.

I also did 30 or so minutes of strength training.

How did everyone else do?

I do walk fast but I love the wind in my face. I haven't gotten up to jogging yet, I don't seem to enjoy that as much.

I got my cardio over with early today. I have a busy day so I got up an hour earlier to take the dog for a 40 minute brisk walk!

I did my 45 min cardio strip class, 15 min fab abs class and 15 mins each way walking to and from the sportsplex for 90 mins total. Whew!

You definately got your 30 minutes of cardio (and it was just cardio). Yesterday I went for a brisk walk (about 8 k) and it took 60 minutes. I still have to do my exercise today but I will do it!

Is it cardio or both cardio and strength?

I did about half an hour of strength exercises, one leg squats, one arm side pushups, V sit and twist, back extentions, triceps dips and a weird move I don't know the name of...I laid across the footstool and held on and then raised my feet to the ceiling (for the back and the hamstrings)

I walked 20 mins around Sullivan's Pond and then 60 mins around Lake Banook.

I aim for 60 mins of cardio every day, so is it ok if I just say what I did and make that my challenge?

Okay here is our first real challenge. I challenge everyone to get 30 minutes of exercise a day. You can double up the day before if you know you can't exercise the next day but you cannot make up your exercise on the day after. I would like everyone to post here the exercise they do everyday and for how long. Of course if you don't want to take part in this challenge then there is no pressure to do so but it can only make you healthier!
