4.16 lbs month is definitely doable! As the begruging plateaus will hit at somepoint, i'd push for more so that if you lost say 6lb the first month and plateaued later on you still would be on track to reaching your goal!

You can't exercise your way out of a poor diet!

Hi I'm new to this group. I live in St. John's and am a student in health care.
I exercise until I want to puke (and I like it). I have decided that my eating habits were not as good as I thought they were. I knew how to prepare healthy lean meals, but my will power with studying, weekend poutine and wine were enabling me to gain 20 lbs in 18 months up to 177lbs.

Since I cringe at the thought of being a hypocrite in my career, I downloaded the Sparkpeople app and just joined the website a couple days ago.

GOALS for 2012: I want to lose 15 lbs by my march break (last week in march) even though I have no vacation booked. If I reach my goal, I have a feeling that some new clothes may be in order. So far I am 170 and 5 lbs down.

A second goal that works hand in hand is my expendable budget. I was spending a tonne of money a week by eating out and not preparing meals at home. Now I rubbermaid up a storm.
So far I haven't purchased anything from the hospital cafeteria save 1 green tea.

You can't exercise your way out of a poor diet!

Oh wow.... I had forgotten about this thread!! I saw my original response to this post, and it gave me a great look back at what I accomplished this year.

But first, this year's goals.

1) Lose 20 pounds. Yes, I'm now greedy. But after last year's results, I know it's doable. VERY doable.

2) Quit smoking. So if you hear that shrill scream coming from Fredericton later on this year, you'll know it's me getting frustrated but not wanting to give into the smokes.

Why? Well, I would think the quitting smoking is self-explanatory in this day & age. i've been working up to it for most of last Fall, so this year is my year to become Smoke-Free.

As for the 20lbs, well, since I had exceeded my 10lb goal from last year, I figured it was time to bump it up, shoot for a little higher goal and keep up the momentum. Last year, I lost 27lbs, that's 17 more than I had originally anticipated.

I have 40 more to lose to reach goal. And I can't believe it's such a small amount, compared to what I've already lost. So my goal is to lose 20 this year and 20 the next, and re-evaluate throughout the years.

I can't even think about being at goal weight.... I've never ever been there.

Jo

25 pounds because for once in my life I don't want to have a BMI that is overweight or obese. My Mom got diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer last February so I want to get in shape for that reason too.

40 for this year. I already have lost about 20 pounds so far (since march). So I am halfway there.

Next year I want to lose the rest probably around another 20 to 25 depending. I noticed because I am doing so many different physical activities that I have have never done before my body is changing shape quite a bit. I currently do Belly Dance, Zumba, Aquacise and Yoga.

The why is simply to feel better, physically, emotionally and mentally.

In the next year I want to reach my goal of 180 which is 64 pounds down from where I am. I know I can do this if I push myself to get back into a healthy lifestyle.

Hi Charlene, your daughter is right, have fun, get lots of activity in with swimming, walking, hiking and just keep busy and I'll bet you come back lighter anyway! I\ve got to sit down and redo my vision plan again this year. I don't make resolutions...just to live a healthier life and get stronger. I'm going to have to sit down and give this some serious thought. emoticon

I would like to lose 25-30 lbs. I'm going on a trip to the Dominican at the end of March and it will be my first vacation in 17 years. I've been a little over weight most of my life. The only time I was small in my eyes was 24 years ago when I did Weight Watchers at Work and I lost 15 lbs in 6 weeks. The program was structured ( like Spark) and that's what I like. My only concern is working so hard to get some of this weight off before March. Then go on this trip and worry about putting the weight back on. My daughter says to go enjoy myself and not worry about possible weight gain. I can work it off when I get home.

I remember wanting to be under 300 pounds, and then under 250, I remember being able to buy my first pair of pants at 237 pounds!! I then remember being so happy being under 200 pounds. Yes, you do have more energy when you have to carry less of you around. You do enjoy life more, if you are prepared for it. Enjoy the journey, find happiness daily in who you are and appreciate how much you contribute.

I don't have a weight loss goal per say but I do want to continue being healthy and fitting into my size 4 clothes!

My personal affirmation that I created for myself when I was 300+ pounds-"I am a person of value regardless of what I weigh. I am here to make a difference!" Using the power of love, I lost 173 pounds.

I want to lose another 20kgs this year before I go on vacation next winter. I've lost and kept of 26kgs since last March but I still have a way to go. I'm now the same size I was when I graduated college before my dad passed away, but I want to be the size I was when I graduated high school 24 years ago.

I want to lose the last ten pounds. I lost them about three years ago and then fell into a depression and gained them back. I'd lost 40 and kept that off, but I remember how much energy I had when I was 10 lbs lighter. How nicely my clothes fit. The feeling that if I needed to do something I could do it. I'm pretty fit already, but I want to step it up - ditch the last ten and feel that energy flow again.

I would like to lose twenty to fifty pounds...yeah it's not very specific but I've been at this a long time. Two years ago I lost 33, then last year I lost only 14. So I'm still working on losing that last years total cause it doesn't seem to want to stay gone! I need to lose a heck of a lot more just to get out of the obese range so getting out of there would be fantastic. I want to have more energy, vitality and have less aches and pains. I'm almost fifty...in May! I've had to live like a old woman for so long and I don't want to anymore....I've been slow, careful, and unable to do much and I need that to change. I recently had my eyes fixed so I can see everything now and I'm tired of being held back by my body. Let's get moving!!

My first response would be "A WHOLE BUNCH!!" But since I know that isn't realistic, my goal this year is to lose 10lbs. When I finally get to 187, it will be a personal triumph goal -- it was my top weight when I was 16, and joined Weight Watchers for the first time. I haven't been in the 180's since I regained the weight I'd lost back then, and that happened within 2 years of losing all the weight.

Apparently I have to move my jiggly chunky butt more to get to that goal.

Spark on!
