Hi AshhyMae,

Welcome to the East Coasters group!

I'm not sure why you're having this problem, unless it's because you're typing the password with the wrong case (upper or lower case letters). Passwords are case sensitive, and that is often the problem. I'm not sure what kind of tablet you have, and you may have to use the mobile version on the tablet if the regular web version causes problems.

Hope to see you around!

Jo

Just a general question if I may. I just started today and started on my laptop but I want to use my tablet as well. I downloaded the app but when I try to log in I can't, it says I have the wrong username, password combination. What am I doing wrong? emoticon

Hey gang!

I'm still around, and still working a lot on recovering from grief. Some days are good, like most of the days in this last week, while some are just plain awful. With My Guy passing away, some of the food issues and eating disorder I've developed over the years have gotten worse, so I finally reached out to my psych for help. I already know these issues will be childhood-based, but at least I'm finally starting to work through them.

Spark on!

Jo

Yes, my house guest is finally gone! WOO-HOO!! Friday night after work, he & I transported nearly all his things from the storage locker, leaving a bed, a coffee table and a very heavy TV console for the next day. Saturday morning, he packed up the last of his things except the dog and we made that drop-off and the final pickup from the storage locker. After all that, it was nearly suppertime, and since My Gal had to work that evening, I drove Toddy and Chippy to their new place. It's been a quiet 2 days since they left.

Yesterday, My Gal & I took the day off, and we started to clean up. The bed Toddy used (and that Chippy chewed up) and Toddy's old bed (he has another one) were brought back to the house and we burned them up yesterday. Two things I learned about that:

Beds go up in flames WAY faster than I thought possible! Be sure to check your smoke detectors in the house!

Black smoke. And I mean a LOT of black smoke comes out of burning mattresses & boxsprings. I'm glad the neighbours didn't think my house was on fire. :-P

It was good to help him out, and it's better now that he's on his own once again.

Hey everyone,

I'm so sorry for not checking in sooner. The only excuse I really have is that a project I've been working on at work is about to go live, and it soaks up a lot of my time, especially the time I spent on SP.

Just an update, I'm still not tracking much. There's something in my head that's stopping me from getting going, and if I call a particular psychologist we can find ways to find my mojo again. But I haven't called, which isn't good either.

Is anyone else tired of winter yet? Raise your hand. *raising mine high to the sky* I know Fredericton hasn't had as much as Moncton or Halifax or the entire Rock on Nfld, but geez, I'm just downright sick of it now, and I haven't really tried my snowshoes other than to use the snowrake around the house.

I hope everyone else is doing well, I miss hearing from you.

Hi, Everyone! Happy New Year! Okay, so I'm a few days late but the wishes are sincere. Christmas was quiet this year. That's okay though. The weather was horrendous; I felt trapped in the house much of the time.

Anyway, I am just coming back to Spark. I gained back all the weight I lost before when I found it so hard to move with my bad knees and feet. Baby steps. I'll just get started for the last time, I hope.

Hi Jo emoticon

I will try to do better at getting in here for a few words....
Right there now ...not a good day...my SIL died this morning. ( She was 75 & had lung cancer diag. just 2 months ago )

Other than freezing temps....we are fine.
I went out this afternoon to the shed to get some xmas boxes so I can finish taking down my indoor decorations...
YIKES....almost froze to death! I stopped to fill the squirrel feeders....and by the time I was done it was ALL I could do to get the shed locked up again and get back into the house!

One of our kitchen pipes froze last night.,..weirdly enough it was the hot water one,..cold ran fine as did ALL the other taps in the house!
The old hair dryer did the trick though!! emoticon

I am starting a challenge this coming Monday on Spark....Sure hope this one works out better than the BLC ones I was on ( way too many lamenters and way too many cheaters ) This BTS challenge is being hand picked so hopefully it will be good.
BST~~Beyond The Scale

Promise I will try hard to keep up here with this thread...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Roger, you are dedicated! :-D

The holidays went well, overall. I still missed My Guy, but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. My Gal & I have started some new traditions, and she really enjoyed the season this year. That made it easier for me to cope as well.

And now the hard part begins -- getting back to healthy eating and working out again. Although after 5 days straight of shovelling snow last week, I would hope I didn't gain. Unlikely, since I found myself eyeball deep into 3 different boxes of chocolates. Once again, I don't do moderation very well when there's chocolate around. As I sit at work, looking at the salad I made for lunch, all I really want is that big box of Turtles that are half price at the pharmacy. *sigh* I need to remember to look into the Sugar Detox article/challenge that was posted some time ago on Spark, because I might need it.

Stay safe, and stay off the roads if you can. Fredericton is getting mostly blowing snow now, but I'm not looking forward to the drive home.

Fredericton didn't get it too bad yesterday, but Saint John got hit hard. My Gal & I went to SJ yesterday for some family business, and we drove through the worst of it. It's snowing now, again. I'm just happy I have a snow blower. :-D

Are you all done Christmas shopping yet? I'm down to the last few, and I'm hoping to get all of it tomorrow, since I have the day off.

Well, that was a heck of a storm! At home, we got over 30cm of snow yesterday. It's been a while since I've seen high snowbanks like these early in the season.

How did you make out in the storm?

He's Loki. I bet he made a deal with Lucifer. :-P The movie was good, and the company was great. My Gal really needed the boost, she's been feeling rather blue these last few weeks.

Snow has started in the last half hour, nothing big so far, but tonight should be heavier snow. We also managed to get some lights up on the garage -- we just have to remember not to open the garage door without removing the extension cord first. Got a few more gifts wrapped, and the sooner that's pretty much done, the sooner we can put up the tree. Now I'm just waiting for an order from Toys R Us, and 2 gift cards for Costco, and I can officially say I'm done Christmas Shopping. :-D I really hope I remembered everyone. :-P

Roger, are you planning to keep running outdoors this winter?

Have a great day everyone, looks like snow in forecast tomorrow. Did you enjoy Thor Jo, saw that one last week, was good, still trying to figure out how loki survived. Catching Fire is another good one too.

It looks like they will come over tomorrow instead of today. It will still be a surprise to My Gal when they show up, because she & I have plans for most of the day. If they can cut it up while we're gone, there's a large area across the street they can start cutting and hauling hardwood over. ;-P

Gift cards are always good. I like to make the suggestions on which stores I like, and I'll try to get people the cards from stores they would like. Costco is a popular one. ;-D

Heading out to the movies shortly, going to see Thor in 3D. I'll try to only have half a small bag of popcorn. ;-)

Well, I finally made it back! It's been very busy at work, and there's a lot going on at home, too. I like to spend time during my workday on Spark, but when there are 3 people at my office door every hour, that's kinda hard. :-P But today being Friday, it's a little slower.

This weekend, I'm hoping a friend will bring a couple of the adult men in her family to cut & split some softwood millends I bought about a month ago. Some of them are too thick to be cut with a chainsaw, and I'm not very good at that yet.

How's the Christmas shopping coming along? Roger, did you manage to finish Wednesday night?

This morning was a GREAT morning! Toys R Us emailed back that the plush Minion is available online, and I ordered it pronto! I'm so excited!!! That's one more cool gift purchased!

Other than that, I did not bad over the weekend, and it had potential to be a complete disaster. I had a chocolate bar and 2oz of chips on both Saturday and Sunday, and after they were gone, I was able to not get more. It's funny how having no junk food in the cupboards will do that. :-D

I'm also working on not stressing over this Christmas holiday season. And the first thing to accomplish that is to NOT watch the sappy Christmas movies! Saturday night I watched one, and even though it wasn't the sad part, I was already in tears because I had seen the movie before (Jack Frost). It didn't help that the main character was a ghost, and the very last scene, when the wife realizes who the snowman actually is, I lost all ability to not cry. So, I'm going to pick & choose which movies I watch, and just hang in there.

Today is the start of the snowy days ahead. I went to town to see if I could find a plush Minion (from Despicable Me), but Walmart didn't have any. I might have to wait until closer to Christmas to get one, since I have one on order.

Finally - FINALLY - put up plastic on 2 windows. Still have another 5 to go. :-P

Drive safe!

I think I'll check in too, since Roger has started a trend. :-P

Today is a MUCH better day than yesterday. I slept much better. I've been having hot flashes a lot all year, and when it gets to the point where I don't get enough sleep, I have emotional meltdowns. I don't deal with them very well, and in the last year, the meltdowns always remind me of My Guy... he was one of the few who could bring me out of the mood and make me feel better.

I'm up 10lbs since last year, and I have to find a better way to get back on track. The low-carb/food-combining plan worked the last time, so I'm going to give it a fair shot again. This time, however, I will pay better attention to saturated & trans fats -- something I didn't care about last time.

Hope you survived Black Friday if you decided to go with the crowds!

Hi Jo, great to hear from you too. I usually stick with the weight watchers bread, and usually pretty good at keeping close to my tracker goals. Snoopy is doing great, got to post some recent pics of him.

I packed on a few pounds during the summer, camping will do that to you..lol but back into
my routine again. You take care of yourself, and thanks for being my friend.

Hey Roger!! It's great to see you posting again! Sorry I missed you the last couple days, but don't let that stop you from checking in. How have you been? How is Snoopy?

So, trying not to focus on just what to eat, how to eat it, and when my next work out is. I've heard it said that if we take one day to plan the rest of the week, the focus shifts to the here & now, rather than the mess going on in our heads. I already know what my workouts are M-F, but I also have to learn to plan one workout for the weekends. Food would be the same thing -- make a meal plan for the week on Friday evening, for example, get those groceries on Saturday, and prep what you can during the rest of the weekend. I now have a specific protein night every weeknight: Mondays is beef, Tuesdays fish, Wednesdays eggs, Thursdays pork, and Fridays soy protein (fake hamburger). I try not to plan a lot of things for the weekend, but that could be a part of the problem -- there are usually NO plans. And that's the part I have to manage better.

I've also decided to try the lower-carb food-combining eating plan I used in the very beginning, to see if reducing my bread intake will help. The lower-carb part is a lot like the old WW plan -- I couldn't have more than 2 slices of bread per day -- but the food combining part is different for most people. Cpmpetitive weight lifters, and even other athletes, tend to use this eating method while working out, making sure not to mix sugars and fats together. It doesn't mean I can't have any bread or pasta, but I am going to limit myself to a reasonable portion.

I'm struggling a lot these days, and not just with food. My Guy is on my mind a lot lately, and the dreary weather doesn't help. I'm still getting psych help, which is good... but some things just have to be handled by myself.

One day I'll be ok.... it's just not today.

Jo

You too? Yeah, I'm seeing myself fall into that trap as well. I'm working on a plan, though, to put food back in its place, and not the forefront of my mind. I'll try to get back on here before the weekend's out and explain it, assuming it works. :-P

Sorry it's been a while. I'm still exercising away, though I've slacked off in the food tracking department. I don't know what I'm going to do about that. I didn't like it that in order to lose weight, what I eat and how I exercise has to become the focus of my life. I have a lot of other things on my mind that are more important...parenting, homeschooling, etc. I don't want to make excuses, though. I am determined to figure out how to do this without it taking over my life.

Yeah, those workouts are tough, but I have to keep my muscles guessing so I burn more calories. The soreness is ok, and it tells me that the weight gain I had last week is related more to the sore muscles than anything else.

And you're doing WATP? AWESOME! I found a few of her videos at Wal-Mart for less than $10, and I LOVE her spirit, her motivating words, and if you listen closely, her Christian values. Her videos are my go-to workouts when I haven't or can't do anything else. She has several 30-min videos, but when you're ready for a little more, try the 3-mile (45 mins) & 4-mile (55 mins) workouts. If you didn't sweat during the 2-mile walks, you certainly will with the others!

Does anyone wear a headband to soak up the sweat on your forehead? Or am I the only one stuck in the 80's with this notion? I wear mine at work, but I have an extra one at home that I use for outdoor chores. I tend to sweat after 15 mins worth of gardening/landscaping (including mowing), so this lets me continue for a full hour without droplets landing in my eyes.

Wow, those sound like some challenging workouts! Whatever the scale says, you are doing something good for your body. :)
I am just doing Pilates and walking (following Leslie Sansone on YouTube) for about 30 minutes/day. It's not much, but it's more than I was doing before, and it seems to be working so far. I need to have energy left at the end of my workouts to get through the day with my three little ones. :)

Well, it's good & bad to hear I'm not the only one who's up. :-S I've been doing new to me workouts, like Tae Bo, kettlebells & Shred Level 3. Just about every muscle is sore, and I'm hoping that's the reason for my gain.

Sorry I haven't been here much, sometimes I wish my cloning machine were fixed. :-P

Sounds like a great hike with the kids, Nelle! Great job losing pounds and an inch! Don't you just love when your clothes start to fit differently and you get to tighten up your belt! I am down a pound today. It felt like it was going to be more this week but I'm not disappointed. Any loss is a triumph in my book!

Hi Ladies...I'm back from a little trip to NB. Saturday I took a 2 1/2 hour hike with the kids. Other than the 30-lb baby on my baby on my back, it wasn't too strenuous. Kids are always stopping for something...a worm in a puddle, a map, a little snack, feeding the ducks. But at least it was 2 1/2 hours of not sitting down. :) Sunday I relaxed.
I didn't take my own food...my family would have been horrified, I suspect. I just did my best with what was served. At least they're not big on sweets, and always have a lot of whole grain bread around (my dad's a baker). I don't know how much over my calorie limit I went, but my total weight loss for the week was about 2 lb, so I was happy. I also lost an inch. A week ago I could only just barely buckle my belt in the last hole, today I used the second hole.
Off to a good start today...exercised for 30 min. and ate a good breakfast and snack. Have a great day!

Thanks Jo for your response on my blog about the protein thing! Greatly appreciated! The vegetarian thing is new for me. It's a lifestyle change I've wanted to make for quite some time now. I had tried about six years ago to go vegetarian but found it too difficult where I was living at the time because the community was small and the little grocery store didn't have the greatest selection of fresh produce, legumes, or really anything else for that matter! Plus I did it on my own without any support or resources to help. So I'm finding it much easier to do this time with so many choices at the supermarkets in Miramichi, a friend who is vegan, and of course all the support and tools I have on SparkPeople.

We will probably get about a dozen kids tonight. I'm looking forward to seeing my nieces and nephew's costumes. I'm not at all concerned that I'll want to eat all the leftover treats. So it's all good!

Hope everyone is having a healthy and happy Halloween!

Kellie, I responded to your blog about the protein thing. I didn't know you were following a vegetarian plan. Is this something new for you, or you've always been a vegetarian?

I finally reached a point in my knee injury that makes doing the Walk Away The Pounds videos difficult to do. Specifically, I can't do hamstring curls -- or at least, not big ones. I tried Shred, kettlebells & yoga, and none of those causes my knee to hurt. My massage therapist reminded me to stretch after each workout, and to take the time to hold each pose at least 30 seconds. Even with that, my knee is still hurting. So today, when I did the WATP, I did kickbacks (hamstring curls) nice & low. My knee still feels it, but nothing like last week and the last month. At least I know what makes it worse now. :-P

Any plans for Halloween? I'm expecting a few kids, and since there are only a few, I always get cans or bottles of pop -- this year, it's cans that were on sale. I also need to put up my pumpkin lights on the porch, so the kids know there are treats at my house. I also haven't decided if I will dress up for Halloween at work tomorrow. This time last year, I wanted nothing to do with Halloween, since My Guy had passed away only a couple weeks before. I haven't decided yet what to do about tomorrow, though I'll make up my mind tonight.

Good for you Nelle! I'm finding it really hard to motivate myself to exercise and I don't have three kids, so that's really awesome!

I've got a week down of tracking food, following the vegetarian plan. My challenges seem to be eating enough calories and protein, and exercise. I made a goal this week to just do 10 minutes a day. And so far, I've just done 10 minutes a day ... but it's 10 minutes more than I did last week. emoticon

Nelle, I'm thrilled to hear you worked out!! It must be an extra challenge to get exercise with 3 little ones running around like crazy!

I'm doing ok today, but still not tracking food. I really need to wrap my head around that again, if I'm going to see results and meet my goals.

How is everyone else?

No plans for Halloween here. We usually get anywhere from 0 to 5 kids at the door, so I'll have to make sure to have something in the house for them. Thankfully, my dh will take care of the leftovers. I don't take my kids out. There's nothing I like about Halloween...death, gore, scariness...too many sweets. Thankfully they're still young enough they don't know to want to go out, so I don't have to deal with it yet. So we just don't do it. Don't worry, they have a happy life without it. :)
I exercised today! First time in a long time. It was a challenge, with three little boys bouncing around me, but I did it. I also tracked my calories, and managed to stay within the target zone. I was thinking I might still have to tack 500 on (for nursing), but it seemed to work out ok for now. I'll tweak as I need to.

It's funny how different motivators bring us here. Kellie, if you haven't written a blog yet, this would be a wonderful first one.

So I'm still struggling with actually tracking what I eat. Since My Guy's passing, I haven't enjoyed cooking or baking, and I finally allowed myself to admit that. I often get frustrated and angry while I cook, especially if it's not toast or something in the microwave. So My Gal is doing a lot of the cooking, and we plan the meals together, but I'm still not writing it all down. The fitness, however, I'm right on the ball for that one! I am so proud when I surpass my calories burned goal for the week! Now to just find that motivation to write down what passes my lips.

Anyone have any big plans for Halloween this year? We get maybe 5 kids at the door, so I'll pick up some bottles of pop to hand out. If no one shows up, then we get to drink them. At least it's not candy or chocolate! :-D

Thanks Jo! I haven't been doing a great job of checking in here my first week, but I plan to get more involved. My Spark first lit about 12 years ago when I was unable to walk because of arthritis. I was diagnosed when I was 28, but the first years I didn't change my lifestyle. I have a high threshold for pain so I believed mind over matter, by sheer stubborn willpower I would push through. Ironically, I wasn't overweight then. I was malnourished, unhealthy, but my weight was fine. Every day I did more damage to my joints until I got to where I literally could not get out of bed. Moving was excruciating pain and my knees frequently locked up so I couldn't straighten or bend them. I struggled with that for about six weeks before I finally admitted to myself that I had a problem that wasn't going away unless I acknowledged it and did something about it.

I started doing tons of research about arthritis. The first step was to take the massive amounts of ibuprofen that my doctor had prescribed, so I could start moving, even if it was only ever so slightly. The second step was to cut certain trigger foods from my diet like nightshade vegetables (tomatoes mostly) and to start eating healthy, increasing nutrients. The third step was quitting smoking. I had smoked quite heavily since I was 12 years old. By the time I got to this step I could move enough to walk on a treadmill.

I continued eating healthy and walked anywhere from 45-90 minutes every day on the treadmill, but my metabolism disappeared as my body adjusted to not smoking and I started to gain weight. And I gained, and I gained. It was awful to watch my body grow, but I tried to stay positive telling myself that being fat and healthy was better than being skinny, unhealthy, in constant pain and stuck in bed. It took a full year for my body to feel anywhere near normal after I quit smoking.

It took another six months to wean myself off the meds because I only suffered the occasional flare up which would pass with a few over the counter ibuprofen and some joint rest. I learned to listen to my body and know what it needed.

And then I knew I could lose the weight, the cigarette poison was gone and my metabolism was returning to normal. So I found SparkPeople and started tracking food and exercise, reading more articles about nutrition, finding healthy recipes and blogging a bit. I dropped two sizes and plateaued. That was about half as much as I had gained. And I've stayed there.

I was on track to bust through the plateau and reach my goals when I met my husband and jumped into a toxic relationship. I was walking at least 6 miles a day, wearing a pedometer religiously, working out at a gym with a personal trainer, eating very healthy, smoke-free for so many years I thought I was done with it forever. Then I met my soon to be husband, moved to the States to live with him on the road for his job in a 5th wheel trailer and basically turned my life upside down. I stayed with him for two years, started smoking again, started drinking red wine quite heavily every day, never got any exercise and sometimes ate healthy but sometimes ate fried chicken and waffles for breakfast. I didn't gain any sizes, but I lost my health.

Two years ago I returned to Canada for what was supposed to be a visit of a few months but when my husband tried to come meet my family at Christmas, they wouldn't let him into the country, and then when I went to return to the USA, I wasn't allowed back in either. I had never educated myself about travelling to the USA and we didn't realize there were forms that were supposed to be filled out, VISAs to be applied for, it sounds so stupid now, but I was naive. It was a very stressful time in my life. And then about a year ago I discovered my husband wasn't being faithful while we went through all the legal processes to get back together in the same country. Lie after lie after lie became apparent. And the lying, finding out that we weren't a team, was the final straw for me. I broke off the relationship.

It took about another year to heal enough to finally start feeling like me again ... then the menopause symptoms started happening a few weeks ago and I knew I had to get the jump on that and not make the same mistakes I've made in the past. So I've been researching and I've decided I need a healthy balanced diet with more plant than meat protein plus exercise of course. So I caught the Spark again! And that's the long version of my story.

Kellie, Miramichi NB Canada

Thanks Jo. I have been doing quite well with the sugar elimination...until this evening, when I had a cookie and a half. (I made them for the hubby b/c he's also not had too much sugar this week with me on this diet...) I'm not worrying too much about it. My baby seems to be doing a bit better, and I've dropped 4 lb this week. I know it's just the quick drop in water weight, etc. when you start a diet, but hey, I'll take it! lol
So how are you doing in the nutrition/exercise department?

Welcome aboard Kellie! I posted a little hello to your SparkPage, and I'm thrilled you've found us! I'm not as consistent as I could be for nutritional tracking, but after 11 years of being on a healthy lifestyle journey, sometimes things like that become tedious. You're in Miramichi! We're only 2 hrs away, I'm in Fredericton. So, what lit your Spark?

Nellie, keep working on the sugar elimination. It's hard, I'm not going to lie about that. I've done it in the past, and I had to do it again this fall, because like your boy, I had a yeast infection that just wouldn't go away. My sugar intake is much better now, and my body thanks me for it. Remember to choose juicy fruits & veggies when you crave sugar, like oranges, apples, grapes and tomatoes... they tend to have more natural sugars in them and are often more satisfying. I remember seeing a chart on Facebook a while back that listed out what you're really craving when you're craving specific foods. When I start craving chocolate, it's a sign I need 3 things: calcium, sugar and caffeine. I'm still working on the caffeine one.

Spark on!

Jo

Welcome, Kellie! My parents live in NB, too, but not quite as far north. They're in Notre Dame, in Kent County. (Nick the Dutch Baker...he may or may not be a bit of a local personality there, lol...)
Good job tracking this week! I bounce on and off SparkPeople, but when I do stick with it, I do much better with my goals. I've just gotten back on Spark this week, too.
Have a great day, everyone!

Good Morning! I'm Kellie from Miramichi, NB and I'm new to this group. I've been a member of SparkPeople for a lot of years but I've never really participated, I just used the trackers sometimes, not consistently, and not for a lot of years. So this week I caught the Spark for real, logged back in and I've been doing well. I really want to get the most out of the site this time and finish this healthy lifestyle journey I started so long ago by reaching and maintaining my goals. I read a lot on here that the more involved people are in the community, the more success they experience, so I'm fighting my general instinct, which is to hide and hope nobody notices me lurking, and instead I'm coming out and introducing myself. So, hi! I hope you have a fabulous day!

Ah, Jo! Still here, I see. You are such an inspiration! I need to stick with Spark that way. I'd probably do better with this weight loss thing.
emoticon on the anniversary of Your Guy's passing. I'm so glad you have the support you need.
I'm kicking off this weight loss attempt by cutting out (refined) sugar. My baby (who is 14 months old now!) has had a stubborn yeast infection type diaper rash since September. I am ready to get rid of it once and for all, believe me! Since I'm still nursing, I can be pretty sure I'm part of the problem. I can't go on one of those crazy candida diets, because I'd be way too cranky (can't be cranky with three little kids in the house!). So I'm easing into it by cutting out sugar and eating lots of yogurt and garlic. I hope it helps.
My dh also offered me lots of money for clothes for every 10 lb lost. I could be insulted, but really, I'm not. emoticon He's trying to help, and the truth is that I'm terrible at spending money on clothes for myself. This way I'll really feel like I earned it.
Have a great day! I started it off right with grapefruit, a boiled egg, and a bowl of oat bran. Time to get tracking!

Hi Nelle,

I'm glad to see you're still around, and still hanging in there. Don't be ashamed, please... there are more important issues to be ashamed of, gaining weight should never be one of them. :-D

How have you been? What's new in your world? How old is the little one now?

I'm doing ok. My Guy's first anniversary of passing was a couple weekends ago, and with the help of My Gal, I got through it ok. I didn't even have to cook Thanksgiving dinner, her nephew cooked it all... I just bought the turkey & ham, and brought the squash and carrots from our garden. :-D

Hi everyone...I'm feeling ashamed of myself because it's been a long time since I checked in. The scale is reflecting that...I have not lost any weight since. I've actually gained a pound and a half or so. :( I've been tracking today, though.

Hi Heather!

Of course I remember you! :-D I've seen your posts on shared SparkFriends' blogs, and I'm glad to see you're still the encouraging person you always were too. :-)

Thank you for the condolences. My new life, or "new normal", is starting to feel better and easier to live with. I did blog about it last October & November, if you want to know more.

I haven't quit smoking yet, I know that's one of those "want to quit" that I have to own before I can work towards that again. Congrats on being smoke-free! And don't stop working on your healthy habits -- kicking the tobacco is probably one of the best things you could do for yourself and your health (the other one is losing weight). Just remember to keep putting one foot in front of the other, in a healthy way, and the weight will come off again, with a little bit of sweat every day. :-D

I messed up my knee on the weekend. It had been locking up on occasion, but I was always able to pop it back into place. Not this time. I knelt down to clean out the fridge, and I remember feeling something painful, and saying ouch, but when I got up, there was a lot of pressure on the knee. Yesterday was filled with anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxers and cold compresses. At least today I can walk a little easier, even if it is a slow pace. Later today, when I get to the gym, I'm hoping I can find a hard chair to sit on so I can do some cardio that way. I'm taking my own advice that I have given to others when they've had lower body injuries -- do more upper body workouts. So that's what I'll concentrate on this week.

Spark on! (And welcome back Heather!)

Jo

Hi Jo~~ emoticon

I have been looking up spark friends to see if any of my friends are campers....
I belong to the team RV Enthusiast team and we are looking for others to join us...

I don't think you are a camper but in looking for friends I have neglected and reading through their pages and Blogs etc....

I am here to say how sorry I am that you lost Your Guy...Because I have not kept up...I missed that episode in your life....that is so sad for you.

I do see that you are still the Jo with the great big smile and the great big sense of humour! And that in itself has humbled me!!

Not sure if you remember me or not...BUT I am an East Coaster from NB and I love the East Coast! I have been yoyoing again with my weight since I stopped smoking 2 yrs ago ( this Oct. ) and put on 70 of the 90 lbs I lost! emoticon

This past yr I have been trying deserately to get back on track but seem to lose 5 to 10 lbs...then put it back again...
So only good thing is I have stopped the gaining~~ so I am still about 30 lbs lighter than I was in 2010~~

I will try to be more in touch with all the East Coasters....We are such a great part of Canada eh? EH???? emoticon

Hi East Coasters,

I hope your summer was good. Mine was pretty good, though I do miss My Guy a lot this year. Fall activities are picking up, and I'm busier than ever.

How about you?

*waving back to Sylvie* It's great to have you posting!

Summer is generally a very slow time for chit chat, especially on the East Coasters group, but I encourage you to post as often as you can and like. I try to pop in every other day, and that's my attempt to keep my computer time in a reasonable and balanced range.

So you're in SJ? I kinda figured that out when you mentioned Rockwood Park. :-P I took a quick look at your SP page, and congratulations are in order for your weight loss to date! I also applaud you for being public about your OA experience and the compulsions you battle. You're not alone, even in the Maritimes. :-D

What kind of accountability are you looking for?

*waving to all the East Coasters*

Hope everyone is well!
Today, I am doing a lil housework and then pushing myself out the door to go walking around the lake at Rockwood Park. Beautiful sunshiney day out there! Hope it's the same for you all and you are out enjoying it!

So tonight I'm not mowing lawn. Nope. It's gonna be too stinkin' hot, and I don't need heat exhaustion this weekend. So I'm going to visit a friend tonight, since My Gal is working late tonight.

Weigh-in was good, I'm 1.5lbs away from my goal, which means I had a good loss this week. Yep, there will be a lot of mowing on weekends and weeknights, if I'm going to keep up with it. I've also been working on tracking all my food again. Man, getting back to those healthy habits sure is hard!! :-D This weekend will be a good test, I'm planning to track this weekend's food, too, which is something I've always struggled with.

Have a good weekend, remember sunscreen while getting your Vitamin D, and above all else --

Spark on! :-D

Good for you!
I'm having a busy week here...swimming lessons for the boys today, then a homeschoolers meeting tonight (I am so excited! My oldest is going to be Kindergarten age this fall.). Tomorrow I'm babysitting a couple of high-energy kids (let's hope it doesn't rain all day!), and the next day I'm singing at a fundraiser.
The grass is getting long, but I'm not going to get to it till next week. A little at a time would be a good plan, but I don't even have time for that right now. I haven't run all week, either. Oh well, next week's a new week.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for your weigh-in! Sounds like you're doing well and staying consistent. I'll bet it helps to share your inspiration and progress with other people, too, doesn't it?

Thanks!! The presentation went well, but the recording didn't take. We've had problems in the last couple days with the software for online meetings & recordings, so I didn't get more than 5 mins of the presentation. Too bad, too, because it was a pretty good show. There were about a dozen who showed up, including 2 people from another section of my office whom I hadn't met before. I talked for about 35 minutes, which was good. Next time, I want to revise my notes so they're not sentences, but high-level concepts... makes it easier to ad-lib the topic that way. And I would do another presentation, later on, if they asked me. :-D

Lawn mowing is going pretty good, albeit slowly. I got another 1/2 hr in last night, back yard is half done after a total of 2hrs working on it. If Shred doesn't wipe me right out after work, I may do another 1/2 hr at home... otherwise, I'll wait till the weekend. My calories burned this week should be over 2500, possibly 3000 cals. I'm hoping. :-D And if that holds true, I should have a loss tomorrow, and hopefully close to my BL Challenge goal. :-D

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm not shooting for perfection, I'm just trying to get across the line! :-D I have a script that I'm basically using, it's a set of questions that SparkPeople gave out some time ago, and I've got 4 pages worth of speech. I'm also looking for some older pics of me, before & after, especially before. I don't have a lot of old photos, but the ones I have will do nicely.

It's good that you can recognize when you need to change up your workout. I'm so bad for not wanting to change it, especially when the plateau starts. How far are your walks/runs now?

You'll do great with that presentation...you are very inspirational. I'm sure people will be helped by it, even if you don't manage perfection when it comes to the time limit. :)
So far I'm just winging it with the walk/run intervals. I've done couch to 5K before, though, so that's my inspiration. Yesterday I found my mind wandering as I ran my 1.5 minutes, so I know I'm ready for 2 minutes. (Normally it seems I'm just thinking about getting through the interval.) :) It feels so good once I'm done, though...gotta love endorphins!
I ordered a dress online in size large...not sure if it will fit me yet, but I'm exercising like crazy till it comes in hope that it will. :)
I don't remember when it's snowed so late in the season. I know we're always a bit cooler here on P.E.I. in the spring. My mom (north of Moncton) can always plant things a bit earlier than I can. And I remember when I used to go to Rothesay every spring for curriculum fairs (I sold homeschool materials), it was always about 2 weeks ahead of us in terms of blooming trees.

It didn't snow at all last weekend... you must be further up the mountain than I am! LOL And I know I live in a snowbelt! :-P The lawn has swallowed up several robins as they search for worms, kinda funny to watch their heads pop up out of nowhere.

Glad to hear you're getting back to the running routine. It sounds like the same approach that Spark has for the C25K program (Couch To 5KM jog/run), is that what you're using to get back into it?

I'm a little nervous about next Wednesday. The Biggest Loser organizers at work have asked me to give a presentation on My Story, my journey through weight loss. While I'm thrilled to be giving this talk, I'm nervous about going over the time allotted, because I've never really done this before. I have a blurb written up, and I'll be using that as the basis for my presentation, including old pictures and one pair of pants. It's supposed to be recorded, so I might have my first video blog to post afterwards. I'm also not reviewing the blurb until Monday, so I don't pick it apart to snot. :-P

Nelle, remember the non-scale victories too. Clothes falling off the hips is as good as numbers on the scales going downward, in my book. I've also found that either the inches or the weight comes off first, then the other follows soon after. You're working on making better choices, and that's what it's all about. I still can't get over you have that many kids around you and you're still (mostly) sane. :-P

Spark on!

Oh, it's too cold to mow grass, anyway. :) Did it snow off and on all Saturday where you were, too? Of course, it all melted as soon as it hit the ground, but still. And the grass keeps getting longer.
I finally started "running" again (what I call my 3.5 minute walk/1.5 minute jog intervals, lol). I'm so pleased I didn't have to start at rock bottom again (4 min walk, 1 min. run). I haven't done it since before I got pregnant with Moses, who 9 months old now. People say they're noticing me getting slimmer, though the scale doesn't say any such thing. I guess it's the inches that count, though, right?
I can't seem to find my measuring tape right now, or a lot of other things...dh has been "cleaning up" his stuff for the last month, and it's all over the place. Oh well...it's got to get worse before it gets better. Good thing I'm patient. :)

Hey everyone,

Not much going on this team lately, wondering how everyone is doing. I just came back from a trip to Moncton to visit family, and Mom loaded up my little SUV with all kinds of stuff from her house. She's making good progress on cleaning it out, especially by herself. Some things I'm bringing home because I know she doesn't have room to take it with her and I know she doesn't want to throw it away.

Apparently I won't get my lawn mowed this weekend. ;-)

Enjoy the long weekend!

Hey Sparkers,

I just heard that one of our team members, ANeilson, has lost her husband to cancer last night. He battled it about 2 years ago, but it returned with a vengeance a couple months ago. The obituary hasn't been posted yet, but as soon as I have details, I will pass them on.

A, my thoughts and prayers are with you today. And remember to call me, when you need to talk.

The experimentations are to be done in social settings, which is why cooking classes were suggested. Socializing has become a little difficult for me in the last 6 months. Well, it was always difficult but no one ever noticed, but I find it's even harder now to get out there and spend time with live people, not internet people. And I think I'll give the multi-cultural organization in the city, to find out if they know of anyone doing cooking classes. I would LOVE to attend a class on Acadian foods, even though I know how to do quite a few of them, there are several that I won't attempt on my own, because it's either a really big job to make that dish, or I have yet to do it right every time I have tried it. Chicken Fricot, however, is still too easy to make. :-D But what I really want to learn how to cook is tofu and other soy-based products. I know it's not complicated, but I'm leery of buying foods that I'm not sure I'll like. Cooking class will take care of that. :-D

This weekend, I'm going to focus on driving around to the local communities, find the church & community halls, get phone numbers and find out what events they hold on the weekends, especially dances. I'm not looking to do anything other than get out for a few hours, dance for at least half of it, and with any luck, make new friends.

So that's my weekend to come, what do you have on tap?

Spark on!

Jo

Ahhh...experimenting with recipes. I do love doing that, but on the other hand I do tend to try the same types of things. New and unfamiliar ingredients don't happen much here. I like Allrecipes.com for their ingredient search. If you've decided to try something new, you could just put the ingredient in the search and find lots of great recipes. You can also filter by what you don't want in the recipe. Then you can further sort by popularity (of the recipe) or its rating. Sorry for going on and on about it if you already use this feature. :)
Pinterest is great, too.

Hey East Coasters!

Psych session went well yesterday. I didn't have a list of interests when I walked in, because I was trying to focus them on physical activities. Oddly enough, I was reading one of her Meyers-Briggs books, and when she noticed that, we started on figuring out interests based on personality type. My new homework now involves doing the research to find out where I can go to do these activities. One activity is going dancing, or to line-dancing classes. I had thought about going in the city for those, but I remembered last night that there are no less than 20 small communities near where I live, and there are at least 5 community halls, and most of them have dances regularly. So even if I don't get to dance classes, I'll take dancing my chunky butt right off instead, and closer to home. These people are, of sorts, my neighbours, and I rarely get out to meet them.

Another activity is experimenting with recipes. I am SUCH a chickensh!t when it comes to new stuff, so experimenting with food will be a little scary, but do-able. I'm going to look around to find an organization offering cooking classes, so I can try different types of foods than I would normally try. I don't want these activities to happen during the week, I have enough to do from Monday to Friday nights. Seriously. I usually could use 2-3 clones of myself, and that was before My Guy passed away; now I could use even more versions of me getting stuff done. :-P

And they're calling for *sigh* SNOW yet again tomorrow night. It better be a stinkin' hot summer is all I'm sayin'. :-D

Spark on!

Jo

I know...it's just been you and me here for a little while, and I'm not that faithful. I'm still waiting to start a walk/run program...it seems like winter is lasting forever this year.
We went over to NB last weekend to visit family. It was neat because everyone else seemed to be visiting my parents at the same time, so it turned into a bit of a family reunion for us. (2 sisters live near Woodstock, so I don't get to see them much.)
Weight is staying steady at about 172. One of these days I'll break through into the 160's. Spring is often a good time for me to make changes.

I noticed that too!! I often head to the garage after supper, and it's nice to see some daylight after 8pm poking through the window.

Any big plans for the Easter weekend? I'm not planning much, so I'm winging a lot of it this year.

Oh.... and for those interested, I posted a blog yesterday. Just another story in my life. :-P

Happy Easter!! (and remember to not overdo the chocolate, and to choose dark chocolate when you can!)

I've been doing OK. It's hard to keep up with life in general when you're running after 3 (yes, the baby started crawling this week so I'm running after him now, too.).
One thing I've been trying to do is sit down and list 5 things I'm thankful for at the end of each day. If I don't do that, I find I don't remember the good things when I'm exhausted and feeling down. I often feel like I'm not accomplishing anything when I've spent all day keeping up with the dishes, laundry, and keeping the floor clean. Writing down these 5 things helps me to be looking out for things to be thankful for all day and makes me feel more positive overall.
Dating, huh? Have a good time with it. You do need to relax and have some fun. :)
I've been maintaining the new number on the scale all week so far, so I'm pretty happy about that! One more thing for my list.

Woo-hoo! Saw a new number on the scale today. 173. I know I'll fluctuate a bit, but every time I see a new number that I haven't seen in a long while, I get excited.
Hang in there, Jo.

BL Challenge is Biggest Loser Challenge. Not sure about being on track all the time, since I'm not having a good head day. This weekend, after I came back from Moncton, I found I missed My Guy a lot, regardless of who I was with. Today is pretty bad, too, but when I feel like this, I can't eat. It's strange, to not want to eat, that I can actually feel my stomach in knots, and that I'm not reaching for food. I'm calmer now than I was this morning, which is usually the time when I would eat. I'll have to watch for tonight.

If I can hang in there, so can everyone else. Just get through each day as best you can, that's all I can do too.

Spark on!

Jo

Hey gang!

Nelle, I know what you mean about cell phones. I was never big on them until after My Guy passed away, and that's when I bought my current one. I needed a new one because family was texting me like crazy, and I couldn't keep up with the old phone's texting capabilites. I'm just too cheap to get a data plan and actually surf the web with it. Ihave wireless at home, so I know I can jump on that and download stuff, but I need to make sure it won't try to download when I'm not on wireless.

Yep, the anti-depressant is working, and I'm feeling a lot better overall. Welbutrin is one of very few anti-depressants that actually PROMOTE weight loss. There are a few other things going on my life right now that are adding to the better feeling, but I feel better. My eating has been returning to normal since the weekend, which I'm relieved to see. On my last post, I said I was up 6lbs from the previous week. I've lost 5 of those this week alone, and BL Challenge weigh-in at work is tomorrow. I'm not going to hold my breath, but there should be at least a 4lb loss this week, as long as I stay away from jalapeno cheese poppers tonight. :-D

Well, I'm off to see my massage therapist. I just love how I feel when I leave her office. :-D

Spark on!

I'm so excited! My little sister (12-year-old I'm teaming up with to get healthy) measured herself again and she's down an inch all around. I'm so glad I could help her so far. I've introduced her to Pilates, mostly because you can do it anywhere, anytime once you learn the moves. That, and it only requires your own body weight for resistance. I was over to NB last weekend and we did some Pilates together while I was there. I think she likes it...doesn't say much but when you're #11 of 12 kids, some one on one attention is always awesome.
I went over to Woodstock to see another sister's new baby last week. She had her babe at home. Her last one came too fast to make it to the hospital, too. I think this time she was much more mentally prepared for that eventuality. She had a plan...she was going to call a doula who lives close by when the time came, try to make it to the hospital. Anyway...it didn't happen. Woke up in the morning ready to push the baby out. So she did, with just hubby on hand. Then she took her time and went to the hospital for a little checkup when she was ready. I get a kick out of her...it's all no big deal to her. I stand in awe.
Jo, I hope the meds don't end up making it more difficult for you weight-wise. I have one of those fancy-schmancy phones too...maybe it's time to keep it charged for once and do some tracking :o). My dh threatens to cut off my land line and leave me with just the cell (so I'd be forced to keep it charged and available). I never seem to be able to find the thing, and when I do, it's not charged, etc. etc. It's a nice smart phone, too, but the niceties seem to be lost on me. One of these days I'll get with the 21st century.
