I am a very picky eater,I have always been, Ready for this??

I have a problem with textures! Mixing foods are out of the question. I don't eat any mushy foods (i.e. mash potatoes, bananas). I cannot let my food touch each other on my plate. I don't do any casseroles at all!!

What I like: 2% milk, raw carrots, green beans (cooked or raw), lettuce, and corn (no cream corn), apples, oranges, strawberries, raspberries, pears, grapes, pomegranates, cranberries, eggs (scrambled only), poultry, some pork, some beef, shrimp, ketchup, mustard (kind of), steak sauce, worcestershire sauce, peanut butter, grape jelly, pork n bean, hot dogs (wieners), and bologna.

I stress eat, and that means the wrong foods ( cookies and candy). I would like to try and find a meal plan that works with what I like without people laughing at me for being such a picky eater.

Any ideas???

MARTIWINKS, I could never be able to do that cooking....well, one thing, I can't cook. DH is our main cook, I do better baking, but not much better. Mushrooms! Yuck! Texture, know what you're saying.

At least you can do it for others. I tend to cut onions too small because I hate them or water down certain things, like tomato soup, more than others would like. Spaghetti sauce needs to be watered down as well.

My hat is off to you for dong all that......You are a busy one! Florial design, daycare.

so enjoyed reading your post, Martiwinks. The detail was much appreciated. We did not eat a varied diet when I was a kid but basic meat and potatoes, "feed the workin' man" sort of fare. I did not like strong flavors and was called picky and considered myself to be picky. But as I experience more of the world, I have tried more and certainly in comparison to many folks, I do eat a lot of foods. Both mushrooms and seafood would be in the top 10 of foods I love now. Tho I still don't like vinegary, mustardy, or very spicy, what I really can't stand are bland, white, creamy sorts of things like mayo. Even milk makes me gag. You are fortunate in having the opportunity to try some new foods. Be brave and I think you will find there are more options in your repertoire!

I am new to this group and the whole Spark Team. I am glad I found this group. Have been a picky eater my whole life and my youngest is too. I presently work 2 jobs. One is at a daycare full time and then I now work at a banquet hall. I signed up for on call floral design. Somehow I have become her main cook. Now, to have to cook all kinds of things when you are a picky eater is interesting. I am not a spice person at all. Nor do I eat seafood. I am finding myself having to cook all kinds of things I would never eat. I am also a texture eater. So cooking stuffed mushrooms, spicy feta dip, hot crab dip, texas salsa, among a large range of main courses and side dishes is quite comical for me. I have to admit, other than the salsa and mushrooms, I have tried a lot of this stuff. It is not too bad other than I have sensitive skin that reacts to spice so I paid for eating it But I am really trying hard to try new things. I am learning a lot and am hoping to broaden not only my eating habits but my sons as well. Will see how successful I am. Some things I just CAN NOT try.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that!! I'm not surprised your miserable and wanting a new doc!

It took 2-3 years of pushing to get my family doc to put my dad on blood pressure meds and then another year or 2 to send him for sleep testing(turns out he has sleep apnea and would stop breathing at least 60 times AN HOUR so basically once a minute my dad would stop breathing in his sleep)
back in 2006 I fell rollerblading-scarred my shoulder, scraped my knee and screwed up my jaw-I didn't shed one tear, I got up, took my rollerblades off and walked the rest of the way home.
this past august I fell just walking(half stepped in a pot hole and went straight down) it looked like someone had taken a barbie sized ice cream scoop and dug a hole out of my knee. I'd didnt cry at all.

in january I had knee pain flare up, at one point it was so bad I was sobbing like a baby! well before that horrid flare of pain I'd experience some rough pain while walking around walmart. so I took a 400mg ibuprofen. it didnt even touch it. so what did my doc suggest for if the pain flares up again? TWO 200 mg ibuprofen!! last I checked thats the samefricking thing!! so luckily I had a friend give me 4 t3's. guess how many I still have...4! I don't like taking meds but like having the cushion there if I need it.

My Yesterday VENT......

A TEN hour doctor visit, that really only took 15 mns. Yesterday was my doctor check up rom when I fell & hurt my knee. My appointment was at 1:00PM. I got there about 12:30PM. So I waite. I took along my crochet bag & crocheted as I waited. At that mommet he didnt even go in to see the guy who had the 10AM appointment. 2:00PM came & went. He finally got to the 10am guy. I waited & crocheted some more. 3:00PM came & went. He was still in with the 10am guy. I waited & crocheted some more. 4:00PM came & went & he was still with the same guy. There was 4 people ahead of me. So I waited & crocheted some more. Then he finished with that guy & moved on to the next one. She took 1 1/2 hours. Then he moved on to the next one. 6:30, 7:00 & 8:00PM came & went. In between all theses hours the wanna be MMA fighter guys came & wanted to get their check ups because they are so SPECAIL . NOT. I was still waiting. By this point I ran out of YARN, had not eaten lunch or DINNER. Luckily I was now the only one in the WAITING room. I had to whole cough to myself. I had to the t.v. on, I was watching my favorite shows. I was laying down not comfy at ALL for the next 3 1/2 hours. Then came 10:45PM. I was told am next. It took another 15 mins before he got to me. I thought I would be there for the next 1 to 2 hours. But NO I was in & out in 15 MINUTES. I was happy & upset at the same time. I was happy he said my knee looked good. No call for seeing a knee doctor, just to take it easy & be more careful. I was also happy I lost 2... TWO more pounds. But yes I did,, the first & only meal I had all day was BREAKFAST at 7:30AM. My next meal wasn't until after MIDNIGHT. I was mad because when all the other ones got 2, 3 or even 4 hours of his time,,, I only got 15 MINS. Just like by that time I wasn't worth his time. I so need a new doctor & am tired

Did You Know May 29th is National Coq au Vin Day? Coq au vin or (a.k.a. chicken in wine)

Have you ever tried this?
Do you have a recipe for this?
How do you make yours?

I have never had this recipe. I have never even heard about this recipe before today. But I do like chicken & wine. I do know that some recipes do call of meat, poultry or fish to be soaked in wine for added flavor & to help make them tender.

Holly smokes. I never thought I would see this day again I never thought my weight would ever go down. I thought it would take forever FOREVER to lose even 1 pound. Then I hurt my knee a weeks ago. I wasn't able to really move let alone work out. I thought for sure my weight was gonna go up. But this morning when I went to a friends house to get ready for church. I went into the spare room & got on the scale. I was SHOCKED when I read what it said. I got off & got back on 4 times to read what it said. It said I dropped 7 SEVEN pounds. The only real new thing I have done was drink more water & eat less RICE. I feel so good now. WOOHOO

Hello & good luck all new comers. I hope you all like it here. I know I do. I wish you guys all the luck with your goals. To anyone who lost wieght. Thats AWESOME. SO proud of all of you. But if you gained a pound. It's ok your still AWESOME. You will do it next time. Your all awesome beautiful & spceial. WooHoo go team. But as for me.....

This week is not looking good. This is why I haven't been chatting much in my groups. My left knee is still hurting, but today there was a crunchy feeling today. Then my left arm as this numb tingly feeling. I tried to take the pain but I couldn't. I ended up going to the E.R. I wasn't there long. I got 3 x-rays each of my knee & arm. Nothing is broken. But the numb in my left arm is due to a deep bruise when I fell. I might have pulled a mussel or a ligament in my knee. It all should heal in a few days to a week. I do have an appointment to see my doctor next week. Back in the 90's I already had 2 knee surgerys on the same knee. So that's why i try to be very careful & worry about my left knee.

But on a good note. This week I have been doing sit ups or as they say "Crunches". I have always hated sit ups but I gotta do something to stay on top of this diet & this time around. I did 20 sit ups yesterday. Not bad but getting better.

Well I was having a great week. I burned all the calories they said I needed to. I only went over my daily food intake once. I stayed away from my food weakness RICE for 6 full days. Then last night I fell, twisted my left ankle & banged my left knee. It didnt hurt that bad until I got up this morning. Then I couldnt take it, so I went to the Urgent Care. They gave me good news & bad news. Good news is nothing is broken cause I can still walk. Bad news is I badly sprained my left ankle & twisted & Banged my left knee. They said I need to use ice & heat on it & let it rest for afew days to a week. They said it should heal in a week or I have to go back if it doesnt. I just starting week 2 & I cant exercise the way I did last week UGH. Looks & feels like I take 1 step forward & the world knocks me back 2 steps. Well nothing I can do but use ice & heat & let it heal. But on a side good news. They weighted me in & I lost ONE pound. Woohoo ONE pound down & 49 more to go... emoticon

Today was a good day. It's the 2nd full day on my "4 week healthy" & " 8 week diabietec loss challenge." it had been 2 days I have stayed within my daily food intake & you know what am not hungry after dinner. I thought I would be but am not. Plus I still have wiggle round if I want a bed time snack. I went shopping & picked up a few healthy stuff. Skim milk, 100% whole wheat bread, bananas, carrots & celery sticks. 5 more days to go on this 1st. week

My name is Rene, and I....am a picky eater. If I don't like something or am not in the mood to get something, I eat cereal. I like it and it fills me up. Food, to me is a tool to get rid of hunger pains...nothing more. I work nights, boyfriend works days and we are never eating the same type of thing at the same time. I don't like to cook so cereal is my go to option. (BTW...this is my first day!)

Hi Betty, my name is Tena and I'm from WV. My goals are exactly the same as yours! I don't know how long you've been here but this is my 1st day! So I'm feelin around in the dark, trying to figure it all out. And I am the same with my pickiness, I'll go without before I eat something I don't like or not fixed the way I like it. My husband gets upset with me (embarassed really) when we are invited places and they don't have anything I like. I make an excuse that I don't feel well but he knows, haha.

Hey betty! I'm the same way. If I don't want something I either make myself something to eat or I go without. I don't personally have diabetes but I do understand it's difficult to deal with if your actually trying to take care. I had a friend not too long ago with diabetes and she really didnt seem to care about what she ate. she was supposed to be giving herself shots twice a day and I think she barely didnt it once a day. So welcome to the team! :)

Hi, my name is Betty. I live in Coos Bay, OR, USA! I am the mother of 4 adult kids, have 3 dogs (well, 2 belong to my sons!) and am a picky, or selective, eater. I will go without if something is made that I don't care for. My husband recently found out that his diabetes was no longer borderline. We are trying to modify our choices of food that we buy, and trying to stay away from processed foods. We walk together ( not frequently enough) and try to support each other. Together we will be able to get it done!

I do not know myself if I am fit here, I am picky eater to the western food but not to Asian food. I just finish reading all the post here.

Did you try chicken curry with vegetables? or Chicken tinula? Myself I am not a fun of chicken that is boiled, like chicken tinula and chicken curry. But chicken adobo I eat and fried chicken and chicken barbecue. I guess I am also a picky eater too.

I am new here, my name is Cres from Philippines.

Its been awhile since ive been here. no real excuse, just been working on pics the little time im on the computer and usually pass out shortly after getting to bed. When i started today i had almost 3000 pics to go through(figure out which ones are best for sharing/showing usually gets rid of 75-90% but i still go through EVERY picture) i start with groups, the first one had 567 pics. i got it down to 71 and have edited(mostly just cropping) 20. So still ALOT to do. but I had an AWESOME day and i hope everyone else is well:)

I had a nose bleed that really made me wonder what would happen when I went biking, fortunately, no problem. As a child I had such frequent nose bleeds that they ended up cauterizing the veins in my nose. It was a real surprise to have one now especially in humid weather.

i wish you luck at the doctor. I dislike doctors and only go when i absolutely have to. only been about 3 times in the past 8 years...I've been to a walk in clinic a couple times but once again it's rare. I'm fortunate to have amazing health.

I'll be at the local park. the city stopped putting stuff on for Canada day. so about 5 years ago(give or take) a bunch of local businesses had gotten together to start a campaign to help better the city. 'buy locally owned'. and now they always put free stuff on for canada day. my fave parts are usually the car show(i'm such a sucker for classics) and the fireworks :) I'll probably post pics a day or two after. but then the next weekend is a city sponsered festival. also with freworks :D so probably a few pics posted after that too :)

Canada is celebrating July 1 so for that day I am making homemade hamburger soup. It is suppose to be 30C or 90F. It should be nice and hot in my apartment besides the cooking. I planned to do this on January 1 so I got to stick to the plan.

All your life you are told the things you cannot do. All your life they will say you're not good enough or strong enough or talented enough; they will say you're the wrong height or weight or the wrong type to play this or achieve this. They will tell you no, a thousand times, no, until all the no's become meaningless. All your life they will tell you no, quite firmly and very quickly. AND YOU WILL TELL THEM YES!

Hi everyone. Sorry it has been so long since I posted. Its been a crazy weekend and beginning of the week. Between my birthday and kids and school and p90x. Just not enough hours in my day. it makes me happy though. Now, I don't have idle time. I always have something to do.
Right now, my kids and I are eating a concoction i came up with about five years ago. A cheap cut of steak sliced real thin and put in some beef ramen noodles with some corn mixed in. May not be the healthiest, but it has meat and veggies in it and my kids love it!

Welcome to the newbies!!! :-) happy eating, lol

Welcome all newbies. I hope you all find what you are looking for, better eating habits. We are all here to support one another. Check out the Sparkpeople recipes, they have a lot of different healthy recipes.

I don't like carrots, but found that if I steam them to tenderness and put a mixure of honey and powdered sugar, I like them now.

Hi everyone,
I am new here and I am happy to see there are other picky eaters out there too. I am not much of a salad person, don't like any kind of seafood (except tuna) and I am not really good at shopping for and preparing meals ahead of time. I kind of just cook what is in the house at the time...mostly pasta/hot dogs/burgers. I need healthier choices of quick meals. Glad to be here to support and be supported.

It ain't bad having five kids. Expensive, yes, but I would MUCH rather have five than just one. One kid takes up a heck of a lot more time. It's insane the difference.

yeah and with prices every where getting more expensive its getting harder. I really don't envy you having 5 kids...but I bet they keep you active :P my most expensive food is parmesan cheese...I always get the kraft family size which costs about 12$ here and normally lasts at least a month but since I started eating 3 meals a day I'm going through it 4 times faster :( I tend to use ALOT when I do use it. I'm also shocked that since I started putting in all my food in the tracker here how much sodium I'm getting...I'm probably getting close to 1000mg of sodium a day!! so now I really have to find a way to lower that...severely :(

Lol, yeah, I like that, too. That's cute. It's really expensive for us to eat out. With five children, it's crazy. Eating at home is expensive. I have to cook 15 eggs for breakfast in the mornings, and two whole packs of turkey bacon. It's absurd! When we would go through the McDonald's drive thru trying to go as cheap as we could, we'd still hand over $20-$25. So, I REALLY don't like to throw money away.

i'm like that when it comes to trying new foods. Like, if I go to a restraunt, I absolutely will NOT get outside of my comfort zone because I'm afraid I won't like it and will waste money (which we don't exactly have an abundance of), so I just stick to my usual meals.

I didn't season the chicken with anything...being such a picky eater(most 4 year olds have NOTHING on me! :S :P) I'm afraid if I even tried seasoning I'd waste all the food because of one part I dont like :(

I also consider myself fortunate to not be a fan of salt...all i really put salt on is fries.

A healthy alternative to salt is a sprinkle of lemon juice, really! It really ups the flavour and you can reduce or eliminate the salt.

Thanks for the warm welcome :-) That recipe sounds pretty good. Did you season your chicken any certain way? I have this little problem where I LOVE salt. Salt makes it worth eating in my book. Of course, i'm switching to kosher salt. Sea salt just isn't salty enough, lol.

First of all welcome monica! that is a handful. I don't have any kids yet but hopefully sometime soon. my parents only had 3 but my dad had 13 brothers and sisters(probably why he was adopted) :)

Secondly I just wanted to tell you guys what I had for supper and maybe you can try it sometime...it's really simple but one part takes a lot longer than the rest.

I wrapped a chicken breast in tin foil and put it in the oven then when it was cooked enough I started boiling macaroni noodles and broccoli. then I cut up the chicken breast and mixed it all together. I didnt know if my mom would like it with garlic powder but I offered it to her and she had some. I made lots so I'd have some for lunches and what not through the week.

if there are any suggestions for mixing it up please let me know :) I'm REALLY picky but I might try something new :P

well I'd headed to bed about 11:30 but wasnt really trying to sleep until about 12:30...finally at 2 I got myself a glass of warm milk(if I'd known I would have had so much trouble I would have fixed myself a cup of catnip tea) and shortly after 3 I finally crashed.
Today was GORGEOUS weather wise though! The humidity finally took a hike! and they opened the pool for my building yesterday but I didn't take the oppertunity to enjoy it until tonight. did it ever feel amazing :D

Sunny and pleasant again today. Went on another bike ride (also yesterday; I tend to avoid back to backs to help recovery) but bike Sunday tomorrow on the scenic driveways looks like a rain out. Ah well, the garden will be happy!

Have a great day everyone

I love this weather! it's currently 18C(64F) and it's supposed to get to about 21C(70F) and it's sunny with a nice breeze...It's pretty darn close to perfect. so in a but I'll be heading to dads(walking the long way even though it's still not that far) to do some gardening, as I took care of the lawn and pond yesterday :)

I know we are growing by leaps & bounds I am amazed at how many picky eaters there are out there.

I'm trying to catch up on my SP mails but as I have been sick its a little hard I need to rest every so often I hope I start feeling better in the next few days.
