One thing that I found out at one of my local grocers is that (if they have a salad type bar) you can purchase small amounts of things they have on the bar. They weigh it and put the price on it. I wanted to try feta and blue cheese but like all of you, did not want to pay for a big package just to end up throwing it away. I was able to purchase a dressing container full of each. I love the blue cheese but not crazy about feta.
As for eggplant - the only 2 ways I like eggplant is battered and fried (not a good idea) and in eggplant parmesan.
Squash - I like winter squash better than summer squash. I like to bake an acorn squash and just add salt, pepper and butter. Sometimes a bit of cloves, cinnamon, and brown sugar. The only summer squash I like is zucchini. I like it raw and cut into rounds or sticks to either each as is or dip in my ranch dressing. Pairs nicely with carrot sticks, cucumber and cherry tomatoes for a healthy snack.
That's awesome! I used to be really picky, too, but I did the same thing and now I'm excited to try new, strange tasty treats. I mean, I wouldn't eat tomatoes, mushrooms, pickles, peppers, olives...oh my goodness...so many more. But, now, all of those things are part of my regular diet. It took a lot of convincing myself and trying them in different recipes, but it did work for me.

I am also a very picky eater. VERY! lol ;) I don't like trying new things as I hate to waste the $$ if I end up not liking it. The sample idea is a good one.
I know at the deli they are really good about letting people try cheeses, meats etc.
The only way I like Zucchini is in Zucchini bread lol NOT a good idea ;)
Squash was a no go for me. I can say I did give it a honest try several times and made it several different ways.
I do think it's good to try new foods. I had sushi for the first time this year and to my surprise I really liked it. I have had it about 3 times since then. I don't love it but do look forward to having some once in awhile.

I am a picky eater but I have been trying new things. I have never had feta cheese but maybe you can ask to taste some at the local grocery store before you make a recipe with it. I have had eggplant parmesan which was very good. You can also look on the spark recipes and they rate them which always helps. I looked up squash recipes and they had some that really looked good.

Ok, one of my goals for October is to step outside of my comfort zone, and try different foods. So far, all I've tried is Oikos strawberry greek yogurt, not bad. I want to try a recipe for stuffed chicken breasts that calls for feta cheese, but I don't know what feta cheese tastes like. Has anyone tried it, and if so how did you like it? I have never eaten squash or eggplant, and I'm kind of curious about them too. Has anyone tried them and liked them or didn't like them? And if you did like them, do you have a recipe that you would like to share? Or suggest the best way to cook them. Thanks.
