I found out a great way to releive lower nack pain without pain killers,(I still take them)but this little trick helps me when the pain killers quit before their time. I lay down on my side with a plush pilow between my legs and an ice pack on the back of my neck. This little trick helps me get off the couch and walk for an hour and a half yesterday. I had plenty of rest stops but I still walked the farthest I've done all year. I can only, usually walk just four city blocks and back again. John/ LNY

Hello all, My name is John and I live in New York. I have thirteen herniated discs in all three different sections of the spine, Three in the cervical spine, four herniations in my thoracic spine, and three in my lumbar spine.All from an injury ,on the job. I was working as an HVAC/R company. I was working on a condensor unit on "I" beams,well a large board fell from the roof from the next building. And of course, it hit me on the head and knocked me off those ''I" beams onto the roof of the building next door. The fall was about forty feet down. I was very lucky to have landed on some construction debris or I wouldn't have survived. I must have twisted in the air and landed on my side. I was told I was knocked out for a few minutes then hopped up on my feet and got back up to the roof I was working on. About that time, I began to feel the pain. We packed up our gear and took off for a hospital in Westchester(near where I live,the road, of course, had plenty of pot holes and I REALLY felt every one. I now have bone spurs touching my spinal cord in my cervical and thoracic spines. I'm going to have to get them removed. I've got to talk to my Neurologist/Neurosurgeon to see what's involved. I know we can't actually give specific exercise ideas because we are not drs etc, I tried getting workout ideas before while injured and failed. I had my surgery yesterday, a microdiscectomy of L4-L5 and also may have to get more done down the road. I am paying for a gym membership that I'm unable to use, and right now I can't do any house work or anything, basically just walking around the house. I think most of us in this situation would just like stories of people that have been successful losing weight even though their activities have been limited. I'm just hoping not to gain while I'm limited and unable to work or be active. Maybe some tips from people that have had some success, or some motivational stories? Those are the best ideas I can come up with,as I am new to this group. Hope this helps!

I am hoping to find some useful info on here as well as inspiration from others suffering from back conditions. I have been dealing with a herniated disk in my low back for over a decade witch has lead to other problems. I would love to be active and loose weight and be able to move around and enjoy life like others but even the smallest of jobs around the house take me down. I have tried pain meds and injections. No surgery as of yet but I'm sure it will happen one day. I would like some great tips on exercises strengthening and cardio that I would be able to do. Thanks for stepping in as leader. Good luck
Hi Beth, Thanks for being willing to take on this team. I was hoping to find more support here earlier this summer as I had surgery July 9 so I'm happy that someone is trying to get this going again. What kind of ideas are you looking for? Ways to get people more active on the team? Things to do? I saw a way to apply to take over as team leader, but with my surgery I just didn't have the time for it, and honestly I have enough responsibility in real life so I didn't want to add anymore. Now that I'm more recovered I'll be glad to help you if I can. Good luck!
Sandy - I am not sure of how it is to be done. Spark People Admin contacted me & asked if I was interested. They said there were not any active leaders here any more - I sure don't want to start out stepping on any toes.

I am sure many of us are trying to wrap up the summer, either by having fun and/or working. So I am going to lay low until after the holiday weekend in regards to starting new challenges and such.
I will do some "house cleaning" to the boards here & will get a game plan together for the team

My name is Beth I am 50 yrs old. Married, 5 Grandkids :)
I have a serious spine injury that has totally changed my life! It changed it for the worst, but I am now trying to turn that around.
All my L & S disks are "gone" - herniated and/or ruptured. Now my T disks are going 1 by 1 as well. I have RA, bone spurs, DDD and major nerve damage. I have drop foot but I go for treatment 1 time a week to try to keep it from getting worse.
I walk with a cane all the time and if I am having a really bad day I use my walker. On super bad days I use my wheel chair.
There is more to my story but this will do for now
I really want your ideas of what you want this team to do. Please share anything you want me to do. I have a few ideas of my own after reading posts and spending some time looking at different members spark pages. Not spying lol just trying to get to know members better.
