I lost my spark for a while but got very active in local AA. Like Angy, I had some health issues side track me. Why does it seem that after quite a few 24 hours under my belt I am still struggling with balance?

Went to a meeting last night and we read step 10 out of the 12x12. There was talk in the 24 hour reading and the 12x12 about fear, anger, and resentment. Good thing I got a new sponsor in March that I am able to open up to and talk with about all the garbage I have been carrying around for many many years.

Glad to have my head out of my butt. I can see things better this way.

Hugz

Love ya lots and lots and lots Whole bunches WHOOO!!! HUGZ

I have never been so happy to see a rainy weekend as I was this past one. It rained and rained and rained and the fire ban is lifted. Some crops may be able to be saved too!

There was great news when we got to our provincial park. The fire ban was lifted Friday night due to rain the day before, so we were able to have a fire both nights. The fire ban had been in place since June. Unfortunately, at my home, 3 hours south of where we were camping, there was only a bit of drizzle. Rain watch continues.

When I went camping in June, we were unable to light a fire as well. It was weird to be camping with no fire.

Camping sober is easy for me since I never camped while drinking. The only problem is that there is a complete fire ban due to drought conditions. Not even a charcoal BBQ. I will miss our campfire and cooking over the open fire, but I would never do anything to jeaopardize our parks and forests.

I had a wonderful weekend. My hubby was working so I was free to wander the farmer's market and talk to the vendors about their wares. DH likes the market, but not so much the learning about the food. I went for a long bike ride in the country and a walk with a friend. I love the summer, brief as it is. Life is good.

First and foremost, congrats on being sober for a year. Isolating is something we alcoholics tend to do. I hear it from so many people. Have you tried AA meetings, or support groups. It really helps to be among people who understand what you have been through, and what you are going through now. Stopping drinking is only a part of living sober. There are people out there to help you. I know AA works and you should try it. I would not be alive today if I hadn't.

I have been sober for one year this week and when I decided to stop drinking I thought all my problems would be solved unfortunately this was not the case and my depression swelled up again and put me back into an intensive outpatient program. I have just completed the program and I am at home everyday isolating, I know this is one of my biggest problems I need to find new friends it's just so hard for me. I'm socially awkward and I feel like I will always embarrass myself any advice?

Good luck with your plan. Don't be too hard on yourself if you can't quit smoking at the same time. Glad you are enlisting the help of others. It is one of the keys to success in staying sober.

I worked the last day before my four weeks vacation. Then I chopped u a lamb... neighbour asked if I wanted to buy one she had to slaughter and I said yes. A lot of work and I am not sure that I am doing it right although I looked in my old cookbook. Ended up with two big steaks - could have been four smaller but I could not figure out where to part those hind legs, one saddle, one piece of lambchops - "lamb rack" and a lot of meat that I am going to make ground meat of today....or maybe I should save some of it for crock pots.

I took an extra day off on this long Canada Day weekend. I redid a garden that had been long neglected and worked in the yard for hours', just enjoying the simplicity of playing in the dirt. I am so happy to be sober.

Good luck with the caming – in Sweden that is a very alcohol-oriented activity for many people, I went to a camp site with a friend and our children after two years of sobriety. No problem then but the first summer it would have been hard.

Yesterday was midsummers eve in sweden, a holiday when you are supposed to eat new potatoes with dill, herring and sourcream with chives. And vodka and beer with it...As my daughter was not with me I stayed at home and enjoyed my own company.

I will be going on a camping trip this weekend and I will be with my Husband's family. They will be drinking alot during this trip and my husband said that he would talk to them about keeping it on the down low. I am pretty sure I can handle myself. I no longer have the desire to drink and I really have never liked beer. I know that I will be strong and I will get through it.

Finally back to the real world. Our cruise was wonderful. I ate way too much but am at ease enough with myself not to be bothered by it. Good food is a part of life. I will get back on track now. I am grateful that I love myself enough not to beat myself up for enjoying myself.

Unfortunately my mother-in-law, who had terminal cancer, passed away while we were travelling home. Because of being sober, DH and I have no regrets and were able to handle the grief, the funeral and the boozing relatives. Life sure is different now.

One swedish well known entrepreneur who has been in the gutter for alcoholism, became sober and was sober for nine years (with AA) has decided that he can drink socially... the day after he said this in a paper it became known that his wife left him for adultery.

No, I will not drink any alcoholfree wine for long now, I continue to say that I am not biological dependant on alcohol it is more some sort of lifestyle obsession. Which means that I will not get hooked if I get alcohol by accident but I need to be very observant on my behaviour.

When I was i Stockholm this weekend I also realised that I would have a very hard time staying sober in that environment. Because the friends I was visiting are drinking as a lifstyle symbol and it would make me feel so different when always reusing and choosing water... what I have done is to change my lifestyle so I very rarely meet alcohol in my everyday life. The few times I do it is easy to stay away - although there is a risk there also I suppose "it is so rare I get in touch with alcohol that there is no risk it would become habitual... No, I do not want alcohol in my life again and I hope I am sensible enough to recognize the warning signals and avoid them.

I'm getting ready to go on a long trip and a little worried about the food thing. I've reall done well since the holidays but eating every meal out for 3 weeks....

Part of me just wants to surrender and enjoy it. Part of me wants to try to control it.

Yikes.

Oh be very careful meddypeddy. I had a taste early on for alcohol free wine when I found out it was 1% alcohol...no wonder I was starting to drink more than 1 class. Read before you sip it or skip it. Lots of non-alcoholic beers do too. Most sparkling ciders are not in the same class and do not have any alcohol.

At a bix luxurous part that started with champagne and had a lot of nice wines through it - I have really aquired a tast for alcoholfree wine! As I was friving home after the party I did not get any questions about why I did not drink... The only thing I missed not having was the champagne at the start - but the substitue was fantastick fruit drinks with strawberries and small umbrellas, fantastic!

It was the most magnificent party I have ever been to arranged by a private person - I have been to some official but not many. I was a good guest and I enjoy having been there but I also admit that I don΄t need that kind of activities in my life anymore.

Safe travels! We went to Alaska a few years ago, one of our all-time favorite trips. AA was a tad peculiar, I don't think we found we found the healthiest groups....I look forward to hearing of your trip.

My husband and I, along with 12 of my family members are leaving on Saturday for a week long Alaska cruise. I can't believe it is almost here. I am glad there are meetings on board and I am sure I will hit one or two. I feel better knowing they are there if I need them. I'll tell you all about it when we get back.

I remember my first camping..and my first sober beach trip. They were hard and I as still pretty uncomfortable. Today....those things are easy and wonderful. Good for you! It keeps getting easier if you stick to it.

I went camping recently and it was my first camp out without booze.

I am so proud that I have made it this far. I hope this is just the beginning of sober days to come.

I have heard many, many times in the rooms that people are living a life now that is beyond their wildest dreams. They are seemingly ordinary people living seemingly ordinary lives, but are blessed with sobriety and that gives them (and me) a life they couldn't have even imagine existed when they were drinking.

If I tried to list all the things I currently do (that I couldn't if I were still drinking), the list would be long. It works this way to.....things I can do now that I'm sober:

1. Take care of my grndbaby.
Enough said :)

It is early in the morning, I am grateful for being able to sleep fairly well this night although I had a lot of nightmares of getting lost and delayed on my way to the meeting...

It is fascinating how similar it is to give up things I have obsessed on. For the moment a lot of other obsessions stir and wants me to take them aboard - shopping for example.I can΄t afford to go shopping.... tomorrow is the preliminary hearing about my daughter, I already know we will lose and that makes it a little bit calmer, but I can feel the tension building up and I did not sleep much this night. I very much fear to see my ex.

Yesterday was the first day of "no meat" - it was ridiculously hard, had crazy thoughts about "just this tine" in the evening.... I am curious about how this will develop...

Fabulous office and a great meeting. They asked my friend to speak who did an awesome job. We then ate lunch with a couple of the staff. It is worth a visit. We met about 20 AAs from around the country and 20 locals. I recommend it! It is probably different every week.

I am going to GSO today! I'm kind of excited. They have a weekly meeting there and we are going to hit it. I've been to NYC many times but never able to work it in on a day GSO was open. The offices are not convenient to the typical things one visits in NY. This is a longer trip than usual, I'm grateful for the extra day and good weather so we can fit this in. I'll let you all know how it is.

Aurora....I wish I would have been as brave and smart as you back then! I am sober at 52...took me a while, but I'm here and I'm pretty darn proud of me that I did.
