BURGER WAS GOOD BUT BUN HAD BEEN GRILLED WHICH MADE IT TASTY BUT SLIGHTLY GREASY.

ORDERED SMALL GREEK SALAD AND FORGOT TO SPECIFY-DRESSING ON THE SIDE.
YOU GUESSED IT! SMOTHERED IN AN OILY (BUT VINEGARY) DRESSING.

WELL AS IT TURNED OUT WE NEVER DID REACH JACK ALLEN'S KITCHEN BUT THE THE RESTAURANT WE ENDED UP FINDING OPEN WAS CALLED JOHNNIES GRILL- IT WAS TEXAS STYLE BBQ AND ALL ANTRES WERE MEAT IN ONE FORM OR OTHER. BUT GUESS WHAT--THEY HAD ALL THOSE WONDERFUL SIDE DISHES- TO GO WITH THEM.
AND I DID JUST FINE.
SIDE DISH OF BEANS, MASHED POTATOES WITH WHITE GRAVY, COLESLAW, AND GREEN BEANS. (TURNED OUT TO BE LACED WITH BACON BITS-ATE THEM ANYWAY) TO TOP IT OFF OUR TABLE OF 6 SHARED 2 SMALL BOWLS OF PEACH COBBLER AND BERRY COBBLER.
THATS HOW I HANDLED THAT ONE ANYWAY:)

I do the best I can, I am not vegetarian so I can usually find fish or poultry on menus, though occasionally I do chose a vegetarian option. Can get baked potato and salad at most places so generally I have had too many difficulties in eating out. Irene emoticon

Good. I think you will be pleased with the salads.

They have other selections which I have never tried but my other family members have and they have given the seal of approval. Its not buffet style. You order your food when you walk in and they give you a number to put on your table. The waitress will bring your order to you. Since you have never been there you may want to look at the menu on line before you go so everyone will have an idea of what they want. It will make the process easier as they take the orders as soon as you walk in - before you sit down.

Hi ladies, --Yes Fay it does sound like you are out of luck for eating out close to home. You can still have your delicious daily salad prepared at home like we do. Our noon meal on the Nutritarian plan is a large salad ( adding a little of of every veggie in the vegetable bin:) So easy and we get what we want anyway in highest nutrient foods by making it ourselves.

Cheryl, thanks for the suggestion, I just GOOGLED NEWK'S restaurant in Waco and WALA! there it was in our MARKETPLACE . Great idea.!Another place to take our out of town guests next week.
We eat out ALOT while they are here so they can choose their own food. I will be serving them
Breakfast and Lunch and dinner is usually out somewhere.

My expectations were that if they had lobster tails on the menu, the salads should be higher quality. The only difference I saw was larger chunks of ingredients and served in a tilted bowl.

Our area is very slow in getting healthy foods on their menus. Breakfasts are known for half a plate of fried potatoes! Andbreakfast is what keeps these places in business. There was a time I enjoyed a half serving of the potatoes but other than mixed fruit at SOME of the places, there really is not much they feel they can profit from.

We used to have at least 3 quality restaurants , only one open for breakfast. All 3 closed about 15 years ago when the adults wanted to retire and family not wanting to continue. They got offers they couldn't refuse from gas stations!!!

Buffets and salad bars are a rareity here and not that practical for us as I have to dish up for both Bob and myself. So I take care of Bob, he starts eating and by the time I am ready to eat his plate is almost empty. More pleasure for me when we are served.

One of my favorite places to eat salads is Newks Express Cafe. They use the healthy dark greens and their full salads are large. My favorite one is the Simply. It is all greens - dark with various other salad veggies. The Newks favorite is also good but it does have chicken. Pat you mentioned you live in Texas. They are located in some cites there, you may want to check them out if they are in a city close to you. You won't be sorry. :-) They definitely fit the eat to live plan. [They also have good chicken salad which I used to eat before cutting meats out of my diet.]

That is what I did today Pat...a large Greek salad. But as almost all the places in our locale offer, most is made of iceberg lettuce!

I don't always find and eat healthier foods at RESTAurants. Today we stopped at a McDs and I ordered coffee to wake me up and a shake to cool name off!.

Ate at a MEXICAN restaurant and enjoyed tortilla soup. But The chicken in the soup is not on Nutritarian diet . The AVACADO, corn, tomatoes, hot peppers and all were definately healthy.

LAST NIGHT I HAD NO SAY IN WHERE WE ATE OUT. WE MET WITH RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM AT AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT. THE BEST CHOICE FOR ME WAS THE PASTA AND VEGGIE DISH. IT PASSED MY NEEDS EXCEPT FOR THE CHEESE ON TOP. I ATE IT BUT WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT THAT WAY AT HOME.

Well today we DID eat out. Chose a SHLOTSKY's for their turkey sandwich. Not ideal but better than red meat -for sure.

I agree and know what you mean. We actually have a couple Vegan restaurants close to my daughters job and we periodically will call in orders for her to bring home. But we still have to order very carefully. emoticon we will have to just emoticon emoticon

Yes we like Cracker Barrel too.
The problem is we don't always find ourselves with the restaurant of choice and we have to come up with creative and sometimes, strongly suggesting to staff what our needs are. Not easy but can be done.

We have a place called Newks here and I like eating there as they have great salads. But like you Subway is at the top of the list and a close second is Cracker Barrel.

At the Chicago type eatery there was nothing on the menu suitable. DH and I plus 2 other vegans in our group ended up with grilled cheese sandwich and they made us each a salad from their toppings:) iceberg lettuce, onions, peppers, and slaw.
Grilled cheese not on our plan but better than the sausages and burgers:)

I try to research the menu on line before going out. Then I have time to check the nutrition facts. then I decide what I want and when we get there I ask the server about any changes I want to make. The biggest thing Im looking for in eating out is the sodium content. Then I just do the best I can with my selections. I have been shocked at the amount of sodium in what appears to be a healthy dish.

I don't eat out a lot these days. Not only is the food not as healthy it just doesn't taste as good anymore. emoticon

A big problem for me.
Bob's choices to go to are mostly @ fast food type of place. Salads are mostly head lettuce so I often resort to chicken, hamburger without the roll or bean burrito. Lately at Boston Market I have been adding an extra vegetable to Bob's order and then have salad and/or fruit when we get home where I'll know I have a good assortment of F & V.
Even his 2 restaurant/diner choices where I ask about soup will have thickened soups (starch) or creamy most of the time.
If we had an unlimited budget I am sure I'd find some other choices, but I do much better at home.

I study the menu I ask questions and requests, ie. Can an I have this dish but without so and so, and can I have a side salad please without dressing? Often it works ! Not always . Ree

LAST EVENING OUR FAMILY ATE TOGETHER AT A "CHICAGO TYPE" EATERY?
WE CHOSE IT ESPECIALLY TO ENJOY LISTENING TO A FRIEND OF OUR DD SING.
