Oh, great idea -- cat or dog collar. How wonderful that you have a dog pal that gets along with your son's dog. I would love to have a pet, but if I were away, there would be no one who could care for it. Mother Nature loves you for taking care of those doggies. Hugs, R

R, yes, she has explained to me what she does. I need to get some elastic also. I had even thought of getting a small cat, or dog collar that would fix my ankle.

Had a great day with my Son and Finance', they were here all afternoon, she bathed Ginger, and I fixed supper for them, and we enjoyed the time together. They both texted me to thank me. I am also pet sitting his yorkie poo as he will be out of town until Wed. He is such a joy, and I do enjoy the company, he is my bed buddy. LOL Ginger and him get along really good.

They are both sleeping away. Had a big day also. Spade went swimming in the pool. :)

My pedometer did not activate when I put it on my waistband, so I found a wristwatch band made of a thick material. The pedometer works well, however it does not work when I am pushing a grocery cart, my laundry cart, or on the treadmill because I hold on to the bars, but works when I walk because I swing my arms. I keep meaning to get Pat's ankle thingy made from an elastic band for hair. I'm not saying this correctly, but you can ask Pat about hers. Hugs, R

Pedometer reads 3148, now I know I did more than that. Seems when I wear on my jeans it don't register like when I wear on an electric waist band. Oh well, will do better tomorrow.

I watched Shawn Achor on his PBS program: The Happiness Advantage, then ordered his book and this morming finished it. He speaks of the path of least resistance -- in his case, he slept in his gym clothes to make it easier for him to exercise the first thing in the morning. I've started looking at activities, that I procrastinate doing, to make it easier for me to do them. That is a challenge! FlyLady.net recommends laying out clothes the night before and then the next morning, "dressing to our shoes." Works very well when I do it. emoticon R

Yes, I also keep my cell phone in my pocket at all times during the day, orders from our Son. :)
I also keep it near me at night also, but never thought of putting my bag next to the bed with it in there. Thanks for the idea. That is what is so great about our friends here on the group. No matter how old we are, we can learn something new every day.

I text my Son the last thing before I crawl in bed at night, and the first thing I get up in the morning. He feels more comfortable hearing from me this way. He will text me back with Good Night, Love you. Good Morning, Love you.

I keep my shoes that I plan to wear in the bathroom for the next day, and used to attach the pedometer on one of them, then I got away from that. I will have to start that again. When I worked I always laid out my clothes for the next day at night, and still do the same. LOL

To make it easier for me to remember, I could put it next to my cell phone, which is in my pocket from the time I arise until I go to bed. That way, I would put it on when I put the cell phone in my pocket.

I feel it is important for those of us who live alone to keep a cell phone on our persons during the day and by our beds at night. Mine goes into my purse along with my glasses next to my bed at night. That was a life saver when I fell and could not get up because I had just has stem cell therapy on my knees. I was able to call my apartment manager to unlock my door and then call 911.

HELLO LADIES--WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY HERE NEAR THE GREAT LAKES! THE SUN IS SHINING AGAIN AFTER A VERY RAINY YESTERDAY.

WE WORKED OUT FOR OVER AN HOUR AT OUR SENIOR FITNESS CENTER. EVEN HAD LUNCH THERE WHICH WAS DELICIOUS. THEY HAVE A WONDERFUL CHEF WHO KNOWS HOW TO PREPARE NUTRITIOUS MEALS THAT SPARKS WOULD APPROVE OF.

MY BALANCE HAS IMPROVED QUITE A BIT ON THE BALANCE PODS! HAPPY ABOUT THAT.

AM UP TO ALMOST 7000 STEPS SO FAR .

pat, I am 10,212 steps so far. Just took garbage out, watered some potted plants, still have to take Ginger out later. This has been an usually step day for me. :)

Have a good evening, I have to clean out my top drawer of my dresser where I keep socks, hose, footies, etc. I can always find a drawer to clean out. :)

I MADE ONLY 5500 STEPS SO FAR
. MOST OF THE DAYI, I HAVE BEEN STAYING IN ONE PLACE-CLEANING AND ORGANIZING ALL MY BATHROOM DRAWERS. HAVE ALL ITEMS NOW IN THEIR OWN TUBS AND LABELED.

HEY DEAR R--YOU HAVE ME BEAT IN STEPS SO FAR TODAY 5571 STEPS TO NOW. AND WE DID WORK OUT AT OUR SENIOR FITNESS FO AN HOUR THIS MORNING. I SURE HOPE YOU GET TO FEELING YOUR OLD SELF SOON. TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF!

. I DID 20 MINUTES ON THE NU-STEP BUT THE REST OF THE WORK WAS ON BALANCE TECHNIQUES BUT THAT DIDN'T ADD MANY STEPS. I MAY GET ON THE ELLIPTICAL THIS EVENING AS IT IS STILL RAINY AND COLD OUTSIDE. WILL KEEP YOU POSTED.

7605 steps for me yesterday. I'm still recovering from that "flu" and my metabolism is really low, but am working on building it up. My morning temperatures have been 96.3 for the past two mornings, which is an indicator. I have missed two Fridays at the hospital, but needed more rest. Surely by next Friday I will literally be back up and running--errands that is. emoticon emoticon Love, R

(I have given up on vaccines--either they don't work for me or they make me sick!)

I just walked at the food bank this morning, and around the house, taking Ginger out several times, but it is too hot to stay out long. She is ready to come back in the AC also.

Acclerometer that means it clicks with every step rather than waiting until I start walking or running. Has a 7-day memory. The best one I have used, but pricy. I wear it on a wrist band as it kept falling off my waistband. R

Good day ladies, I wish I could find a good pedometer any one I have bought hasn't worked either. I haven't been able to walk since my knee is so bad. But I like the idea of knowing how many steps I have or haven't walked. Can anyone suggest one. Thank you all I do take your advice to heart I gave myself a smaller goal.

I reached my 10,000 plus steps by 5:30 pm after returning from my 50 minute walk with Poochie. this time remembered my sun hat, water bottle, and small bowl for Poochie. (already.
had on my sunscreen) we made it to the park bench. Sat and enjoyed the bull frogs again at the Lily pond before heading back. Other folks were there with their dogs too which Poochie loved.
Now at 9 pm pedometer reads 12900 steps which is the best yet for me yet this week

POOCHIE HELPED ME REACH MY 10,000 STEPS AGAIN TONIGHT.
WE TAKE A DIFFERENT ROUTE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD EACH TIME WE HEAD OUT. LOTS OF SIDE STREETS TO EXPLORE. FUN MEETING OTHER DOG WALKERS TOO. THE DOGS HAVE TO SNIFF NOSES!

I FOUND MY PEDOMETER ON LINE -BUT THE SPORTS EQUIPMENT STORES SHOULD HANDLE IT TOO.
IT IS A yamax-DIGI-WALKER I PUCHASED ONE WITH A SAFETY CLIP .

MARSHA, I SHOULD HAVE WARNED YOU ABOUT CHECKING THE SIZE OF THOSE STRETCHIE HAIR BANDS. THE FIRST ONES I BROUGHT HOME WERE TO SMALL TOO!

Hey Dear R-- you Are on your way! All it takes is getting started and you have done that!
We left for our workout center too late- around 8:3O I think and got only half of the PT assignments done. The machines were all full. Last week when we got there about 7:00 we had no Problem. Lesson learned. The early bird gets the worm-which we already knew of course :) I did get 15 min in on the NU-STEP. ( which is a leg pumping machine for those not familiar) then went up stairs to the therapy room and did our balancing assignments as well as a couple machines there. We plan to get there earlier from now on.
My steps are over 7000 now so Poochie and I will have to get walking after dinner to reach my goal again.
Good luck and get moving ! :)

DGD JOINED US IN OUR EVENING WALK AND WE MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE PARK, AND BACK
BONUS---. THE PARK HAS A LILY POND AND I WAS ABLE TO SIT AND LISTEN TO THE
BULL FROGS FROM A PARK BENCH.
NOW HAVE 11,809 STEPS .

Pat, I got me a pkg iof pony tail thingys. LOL Anyway, it feels tight on my ankle so I might not be able to use it, but I can get some elastic and make me one I guess. I have it on, and it is clicking the steps good, but feels a little tight. Don't want to cut off the circulations in that foot, the circulation in my right foot isn't good.

I forgot to put my pedometer on until late in the morning on Sunday and racked up only 3846 steps, but I am still not walking much. The scale is headed in the right direction a few ounces at a time, and I am grateful for that. Thanks for reminding me about wearing the pedometer again.

Yesterday, I heard a man talk about the addictive nature of sugar and how unnatural it was for humans, that the population became heavier in spite of removing or lowering fat, and that sugar was added to foods to replace fat! So that was enough to get me off sugar, too. I'm following in your footsteps, Irene.

We are having fresh corn on the cob daily while it is in season. That and cucumbers, fresh peppers and tomatoes too .we love sweet potato too and I fix one often in the micro.

Thanks Pat, it is better today. I have been resting it some. Got a good supper in the oven. I baked some chicken, a sweet potato, and made me a little salad. First meal I have cooked from scratch since DH passed.

Pat, I have had problems with my right ankle, and swelling of the lower leg. I have an appt with a ankle and foot doctor Aug. 15th. I think it could be the HBP medicine that I am taking that is causing the swelling. So my walking has been limited, but at least I will know how many steps I take.

I am ready for bed. Have to get a few groceries in the morning. Have a good night's rest.

MY PEDOMETER READING TODAY---
10,399 STEPS BY 9:30 PM

EARILIER THIS EVENING MY PEDOMETER READ ABOUT 8000 STEPS SO POOCHIE AND I WENT FOR A SHORT WALK IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. (I ALWAYS CARRY A SMALL PLASTIC BAG JUST IN CASE :) I REACHED MY 10,000 STEPS AND POOCHIE WAS DELIGHTED TOO!
