Evening to all!

Have stepped back from trying to increase the time on my PT exercises. I think I was pushing more that I should have and that was probably my problem on Sunday and Monday. Will start back but liken up a little.

Target run today. I go with a list and coupons and still buy more that I should. Saw some Oreo cookies (Carmel Apple) which somehow or other ended up in my cart. Of course when the package said Limited Addition you know you have to have them Go figure! I put them in the frig and will try to ration them out.

Signing off the clean up the kitchen and then bed time

How lucky we are to have those memories. My Aunt Bette lived to be 106--mind sharp and clear to the end. Aunt Lucretia had two boys and no girls. She was more like a loving, adoring grandmother. emoticon Roberta

Roberta-your aunt Lucrecia reminds me of my favorite aunt Reva!
She was childless and gave we kids extra love and attention .
She is the sweet aunt I have mentioned before who lived to be 103.

It is good to see you posting again, Irene.

Well.... those of us in our age bracket probably experienced the same treatment from adults. When we know better, we do better. Hopefully, we keep learning. God Bless.

You spoke of affectionate parents or maybe not so affectionate.
Dad had to work two jobs to be able to keep the family going. Mom had such busy days and sometimes nights.
I never could do good enough for my dad. If I got 80 in school I should get 90 if I got 90 I should of done better.
If someone told me I was pretty he knew how to put me down so I wouldn't be proud.
We had wonderful gardens with all kinds of veggies and the whole family working after dad got home from work.
We were afraid for dad to come home as if we acted up a little mom would say I'm going to tell your dad on you.

Thank you, Pat, for reminding me that my parents worked hard through the depression, too. And maybe you are right--they had a different way of showing their love by providing food, a warm house, and clothing. I just wish they had been kinder. I was always in fear of all grown-ups. Except for Aunt Lucretia, everyone seemed angry all the time and would lash out.

Today, what I want in my life, I give to myself and others--kindness, patience, a smile.

It's a beautiful. day in the neighborhood here! Chilly but gorgeous sunshine. I approve!

Thank you, Mani, for your blessings! We are indeed fortunate. I too had a wonderful mother-in-law who taught me everything I needed to know about cooking:)

Roberta, I can't recall much praise coming from my parents as well! But I am grateful for their upbringing. I think it was a reflection of the harsh life they experienced making ends meet during the depression. But we never felt "poor" and we always had enough food and clothing
Thanks to their gardening and canning efforts during the depression, we never suffered.
I too tell my children( all 7 of them, ) I appreciate and love them, every chance I get!

Irene, I hope you are still receiving meals from your church ladies? If they are any thing like the cooking of our family church ladies back home-you are are in for a treat!
We still go back to their pie sales:) even where we live now we seek out Church Lady Pie Sales at our local roadside stand.

Marsha, what is weather like in sunny Florida? Still hot or are you benefiting from the cooler temps as well?

Dear REE- are you taking care of your own needs as well as your DH? Please remember to
Finally Love Yourself!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Lois as she copes with her sciatica . But happy today was better.

I better sign off so I can get something more accomplished around here. I did set out the ingredients for DH to make his -now famous- molasses cookies. But found we are short on brown sugar and will have to wait for grocery trip:)

.this morning I put away dishes and shined the kitchen sink. After cleaning it I used a little Windex and a clean towel and WALA -gleaming sink:)

Our favorite WNBA team has won the National championship( thanks to our cheering no doubt)
And our favorite men's baseball team is at the top of their rankings and on the way to taking the World Series, (we hope? ) Again thanks to DH and me- no doubt !

Signing off from my silly chatter!
Pat

Hello and a warm and humid good evening.....

Well it is almost my bed time just waiting for my nurse to get me my after dinner meds. DH's done with his and is snoring already. These days it hardly takes him long to fall fast asleep. We also need to give him all his meds all powdered and then add a dash of honey....he tends to get choked when he swallows his tablets.

Irene, Pat...yes this has been a trying summer for both of you, PTL that both of you are back and are getting healthier by the day.

Pat that is great news on the doctors visit. May the Lord continue to shower you and DH with his healing.

Lois today is indeed a good day with the docs....good to hear about the wonderful progress you are making.

Roberta, guess in our days it was always told that good parents were always strict parents. Well I got married at 16 so my DMIL was more a mother to me than my own mom, I actually bonded with my mom, much later when my DD got married. All through my mom would always advise me only on dealing with and managing relationships with my in-laws...well that is just our culture.

Ree, Marsha hope you girls are doing well and have a great Tuesday, while I head to bed.

Hugs, Prayers & Blessings

The subject came up on a TV show this morning about the best advice your parent(s) ever gave you. Well, I never had any from my parents or anyone else for that matter, but one day on the golf course, my partner told me: "Don't try so hard!" I realize now that I have been trying so hard to please my parents and it never came! I get stressed trying to do the right thing! And to this day, I am still trying hard to be perfect, to please my parents, my boss, or everyone I guess. So, my motto now is: DON'T TRY SO HARD. RELAX! YOU ARE PERFECT AS YOU ARE! ENJOY YOUR LIFE!

Actually, looking back, I never had any hugs or affection from my parents--no "Atta Girl--no "Good Job"--no "I'm proud of you." I guess in "those days" that wasn't thought to be necessary. The closest I ever came getting affection (without hugs) was from my Aunt Lucretia--I spent many summers with her as a child--my only happy memories. Later in life, as an adult, I told my children "I love you" after each conversation. My son is now with God, and I told that to him twice on the day he passed. I tell my daughter how proud I am of her, how smart she is, and other good words.

So here's to a happy, enjoyable, and successful day to all of us. You are perfect as you are. Much Love, Roberta emoticon

Pat, good news on your doctor's report.

Today was a little better day. It actually wasn't my leg that was causing the pain, it was the sciatic that seemed to flare up. I went to Occupational Therapy today and was given an A+ and don't have to go back. I can not put a stocking on my right foot so my doctor sent me to OT. With the help of a very nice young man we got it figured out. I was beginning to think I would have to hibernate for the winter. Now hopefully the sciatic will calm down and I can get back to try to increase my steps and get back to my PT exercises.

Hi , greetings in mid-September!
We are having a cold drizzly rain here today but have promises of better weather ahead.

Sorry to hear of the troubles others are having! Just keeping on caring for ourselves and our bodies miraculously heal themselves! One day at a time!

As you may recall, after years of seemingly perfect health, both DH and I , we have had quite a summer! It all started with pneumonia for both of us and went down hill after that. It culminated with I my prolapse bowel surgery and DH suffering diagnosis of kidney stones. I am healing nicely from my problem but DH has to have another scan. On Thursday.

Today I had my 3 week surgery follow up with our family doctor. DR. Was very impressed with my progress and said I looked fantastic! Nice to hear. She did say my cholesterols was a little elevated but would not recommend MEDS. At my age:) she did recommend over the counter- Zertex-for my allergy symptoms. I have only 2 more days of bland soft diet, and then can add one salad a day for first week.

So take good care of yourselves, FLy-Finally Love Yourself, Irene, LOIS,, Marsha, Mani Roberta and REE! And me too! We can do it!

Good Evening everyone....

Have had a nice weekend....we had a special church service yesterday in honour of the Mother Superior of the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph's of Tarbes...the convent which is attached to the church, turned 100 yesterday. I never realised the dear lady was 100, I thought she must be my age or just a couple of years older.....Have known the Rev.Mother Olivia, who is actually an Irish nun since the past 40 years ever since she took over the running of the convent and the orphanage. A very friendly an jovial lady with whom I have spent many an evening sipping coffee and cakes. I was requested to speak a few words and felt blessed and honored to do so as I am genuinely fond of the lady. I was then requested to join them for a hight tea and the cake cutting at the convent, my nurse and my DGDIL had to accompany me as by then my essential tremors were acting up and I was feeling extremely shaky. Feeling much better today with the meds, exercises and a massage. Infact since lunch yesterday to breakfast today my nurse had to feed me as even spooning food into my mouth was becoming a challenge. But managed lunch myself today.

Irene, I have only 2 children, 1 son who is 67 and a daughter who is 69....and both of them are still around. 5 Grand Children between 51 and 44, 13 GGC & 7 GGGC with 2 more expected soon. Indeed a relief that the church is there to help you.....Look forward to reading your blog.

Lois hope the leg feels better soon.....leg pain is a part and parcel of my life now the good days are when the pain is not very bad and bad days are when the pain is un manageable.

Roberta, but do be careful with coconut oil as it is high in cholesterol. Try a piece of fresh coconut itself and see if it has the same effect. Fresh coconut without being cooked is very good.

Marsha, Pat....sending both of you warm hugs....

Have a great new week....

Hugs, Prayers & Blessings

FYI: I just noticed that a chunk of cold Coconut Oil relieves that gnawing sensation in my stomach--you know when you have that restless, dissatisfied craving for something that you cannot define. I cut off a chunk and let it dissolve on my tongue like a piece of chocolate. Seems to work every time. Roberta emoticon

Welcome back, Irene! You have been missed.

Not sure what is going on, but today has not been one of my better days. Very uncomfortable to put any weight on my right foot. Am prayer that weather is playing into this discomfort. As a result I have had to limit my walking, Just looked at my pedometer and it show that I haven't been very mobile today. Tomorrow is another day and hopefully can get my act back together again.

Wishing all a great new week!

Right now I am alone. I will have home health and PT after I see my new doctor.
The church is bringing in food for my first week at home at my request and most has been delicious.
Someday I will write a blog about the whole ordeal.
Thanks for your and the teams prayers.

Good Evening from cloudy Kerala....

Well today has been a cloudy day drizzling almost the entire day.....the weather has done it's trick on DH too...so he refused to get dressed even at 10 to get to church....so it was just me with Nathan & Edward and their families. At church we were in for a pleasant surprise....the Mother Superior of the convent of St. Joseph'e of Tarbes who seldom joined us for service was there today and she turned 100. So there were other church elders from the parish and we had a lovely church service in honour of Rev. Mother Olive. A lovely lady and indeed I was honoured to be asked to say a few words about the dear lady....whom I have known for the past 40 years....she is an English lady who never returned after India gained independence. She has done a lot for our parish and the charities the convent has done under her guidance. There was a high tea which I stayed back for with Chanda and Natasha and had a good but tiring morning.

Roberta, yes I got married early, I was 16 a mom at 17 and a grand mom at 35.....in fact all my 5 grand children are grand parents too...Praise the Lord.

Marsha, good to know that you are feeling better....hope you enjoy church today.

Pat...you are inspiration to me too...guess we need to encourage one another to keep going....when I read about all the household chores you ladies do...something I haven't attempted in the past 4 to 5 years....

Lois my DH too takes shots in his eyes for Macular degeneration and he takes it easy for 3 to 4 hours after that.

Irene, good to see you posting and I second Marsha, take it easy and post whenever you feel like it. Stay rested....

Hugs, Prayers & Blessings

Had a good Saturday! Coffee group morning and then this evening I had dinner with my daughter and my great-grand daughter. At least once a month my son-in-law has to work all night and my daughter usually have dinner and tonight we were joined with this little charmer.
Just to explain about the eye injections, I have macular degeneration and have eye injections every 5 or 6 weeks. It is very painless, just a little discomfort when the numbing wears off. I have been doing this for over two year and probably will for the rest of my life. So far my vision is good and only have to use readers for reading and the computer. Needless to say I am so thankful.

Thanks Pat, you got a lot accomplished today. I have done what I expected to do, and so glad that I got it done, my back isn't happy though. Just going to rest it when I get off here.

I got my bed linens washed, dried and put away, and new linens on the bed. got the comforter washed, dried and back on bed. Hung some curtains I had washed in he stairway going upstairs. I knew I had a pair, and found them when straighening out the linen closet. :)

Had cottage cheese and fruit cup for lunch. Going t have a frozen entree for supper. I have really sweat today. My neighbor lady walked over for a little so got to rest a bit.

Have a great evening, and take it slow on the cleaning, remember you are recuperating. :)

Mani, that is a great idea--chair yoga. Right now I am going through the SAGE physical therapy at a local hospital and when finished, I may join a class--WOW--Weights for Women--at a local Parks Department gym class. I am starting in slowly on my exercise bike--slow, long, and with some resistance are what the PT advised to build up stamina.

BTW, you are the second women I know with great, great grands! Congratulations! That is very special. You must be a very interesting person to know and be around. Good for you.
Love, Roberta emoticon

Good evening everyone....

Had a lovely but exhausting evening....great grands and great-great-grands were all here....so much of noise and fun...and yes our DGD Edna brought along an old picture album, DH & My 50th anniversary pics....

Pat belated BD wishes to your DD and heart felt blessing for the dear child for taking such good care of her parents.... Pat a great verse from the Bible....makes me feel wise...well I have never been the type to hide my age....never coloured my hair or stuff like that.

Marsha hope your tummy is feeling better than last night....

Lois that is great news about your health check-up....good luck with the eye shots...DH too takes them every month.

Roberta, I do chair Yoga, our yoga instructor has some nice videos that she has shown me on yoga for seniors and have also adapted it into my PT routine....All I do are chair exercises other than the strolling....

Have a lovely weekend .....

Hugs & Prayers

Pat, I am going to look that up in my Bible and highlight it. :)

Hope you had a good day, and have a great evening. I had a pretty busy day as I took my friend Lew to the doctor this morning, her daughter couldn't, and she called me last night and asked if I could. Then we went for hearing aid batteries. She is 93, and such a lovely lady. We usually go out to have McDonald's oatmeal when I take her out somewhere in the morning, but this morning she said that she was worn out, and wondered if I would mind not going. I told her I had eaten some toast before I picked her up, and no problem.

Hugs and prayers to all.

Lois, glad your doctor’s visit went well. I go next week I believe, I have to look at my calendar.

I know what you mean about wrinkles when getting older, and yes they always show up in the face.

I have to go and take a dear friend to the doctor this morning for blood work so gotta go, be back later.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Saw my primary doctor today and the visit went well. I wanted to check with him about the weight loss and he said that if I am feel good I am at a place. To stay in the safe zone I could lose another 10 to 15, but I think for now I am happy where I'm at. I have enough winkles and my face is always the first place that shows the loss. Also, got my flu shot. They now have a stronger vaccine for people 65 and older which is what I got.

Signing off and heading off to get ready for bed. Have a great Friday

Pat,, enjoy that filling. :) I took a little nap. I kinda wore myself out yesterday, and then this morning I had the Ladies Circle meeting a church. We disgusted our Fall Bazaar, and yard sale. I ordered some kits for us to make Cross key rings to sell. We have a lot of crafts left over from last year. The Catholic Church near us is having their Fall Craft show, and we can rent a table from them.

I don't know what I am going to have for supper yet. Stomach is kinda upset, or heart burn. UGH, I hate that.

Have a great evening everyone. I will be watching The Biggest Loser as one of the contestants is from Tampa, FL.

Hi! Fun to see you all talking about shoes and winter clothing!
I had to make some changes in that department too.
since my surgery on AUG 25 I have been wearing only my hospital type footsies.
Today I made the big switch to my Sketchers Sport shoes.
Grey with purple soles and shoestrings:)

Also,as many of the rest of you, our temperatures plummeted from mid 70's to a chilly 54. Suppose to get down to the 40's tonight and cooler all coming week.
So I too will get out my warmer clothing .:) longer pants and a sweater will do.

This is my caretaker DD'S BD. So to celebrate we had a blueberry pie for lunch dessert. ( her favorite). As I am still on my bland diet for another week- I only eat the filling -
REE, Marsha, LOIS, Roberta, Mani, -- you are ALL an inspiration for me to keep moving and to choose my foods carefully anyway!
Hugs, Pat

I see the topic of conversation being shoes....well I am blessed that with Saris I wear only flat sandals. Have now shifted to Flitflops and yes wear them with socks, thin cotton socks, ankle length in the dry days and warm woollen ones, calf length for the cooler days....Yes my size too has gone from being a size 7 to a size 8....while I have shrunk in height, I am now ono 5ft 2"...have lost 2". Well as my DGD explained that as we age our feet tend to spread to take our weight and then they expand....well...I rally don't understand but definitely can't slide my feet into a size 7 sandal....

Pat good to see you being so active you are such an inspiration....I did almost 2.5 hours of exercise today - 1 hour of walking and 45minutes of PT & 45 minutes of chair yoga.

Marsha, Lois, Roberta....have a great day....

Evening to all! Not much going on today and then my DDL called. She came over and bought up my winter clothes from my locker and then took me to lunch. She is one of my angels.

Now my shoes of choice are Merrells. Back in the day I could dance all night in spike heels and probably that tells the tale of knees and back surgery. If I knew then what I know now, I still probably wouldn't have changed a thing.

Sending good vibes to everyone.

I ordered the Grain Brain Cookbook and Atkins Cookbook yesterday and am eagerly looking forward to trying some of the recipes.

Had a great session with my SAGE PT today--discussed shoes: what to look for, how to test the fit, where to buy the best brand. Looking forward to having warm shoes for winter. All I have right now are sandals! BRRR!

Oh, geese! I hurt all over--more this morning than yesterday, the day after my SAGE evaluation on Monday! I have another session this morning, to talk about shoes! I would cancel my appointment, but I have a hard time finding shoes that fit my foot and this session is important. At my age, my feet are growing! What's with that!!! Oh, well, it is what it is and I am out of shoes! The only ones left are sandals and winter is coming on! I tossed six pairs of perfectly good shoes yesterday, and more to go--all high heels with pointy toes! (I hate pointy-toed shoes as much as I hate bras!) I noticed on Monday that the PT had some comfortable looking shoes on--hopefully I will find the perfect fit.

Way to go-LOIS!

Not only have you lost 35 pounds but you have the positive attitude that got you there.
Chalking up your trip to the laundry room as good exercise is an example for all of us.
Thanks!

Yes Marsha, that FlyLady is a little much for our stage of life but we can still learn from her.
She does say Make your lists and go from there! And slow and easy is the way to go.
Checking off our accomplishments ( rewarding ourselves) we can all do that!

Today my list of to do's
To use what energy I can muster to help my DD.

Up at 6:00- As planned I went to kitchen and emptied dishwasher-filled with last evenings dirty dishes and shined the sink.
Then returned to our bedroom and after brushing teeth ,washing face , using my inhaler-shined that sink and mirror :)
I made the bed after Dh got up. And Watched the morning news.

My planned household chores are done for today..
Late I will purposely walk to chalk up afew steps.

Severe storm predicted here today. Too.

Enjoy your day everybody.
Pat

Thanks for the comment on my weight loss, - now I just have to maintain. I see my primary doctor on Thursday and anxious to hear which he has to say about the weight loss. I haven't seen him since my preop appointment late in April prior to my surgery. I was 19 pounds heavier then.

Pat, great suggestions - now I just have to get my act together and do some baking.

Laundry day which is kind of a big deal. We have a laundry room on each floor with two washers and two dryers. It really doesn't take so long other than my trek back and forth from my unit. Between cane and my little laundry cart, I do get it done. Of course it does help to get some steps in.

Hope everyone is surviving all the bad weather. We are expecting some weather tonight, but hope they are wrong.

Thanks Pat for the suggestions. Every little bit helps. I have to watch my Whole Wheat, It just doesn't agree with my digestive system. I eat rice, or corn cakes. I use oat bread, etc.

Hope you are having a good day. Waiting on UPS to bring me an overnight envelope and hopefully before the bank closes.

Hey Here are some ideas on how to make baked goods recipes twice as healthy!

Change 1/2 the flour called for to WHOLEGRAIN flour.( or what ever grain agreeable to you)

Cut the amount of sugar to 1/2.

Double amount of spices called for: (this adds extra sweetness without the calories )

Cut fat in half and use equal amount of applesauce .

And use - 1/4 cup egg replacer for each egg called for: ( gets rid of cholesterol)

Skip the salt entirely- there is sodium in the baking powder.

Enjoy better health. Pat

I hardly every cook for one, I usually cook for 2 or more and freeze individual servings just for me. Yesterday I made a big pot of chili with ground turkey, and ate one bowl for supper, and froze 5. Nice to go to the freezer and take something out that you know there is not a lot of sodium in them. I do buy a few frozen Lean Cruisine entrees, but very few.

Keep up the good work.

Just to prove I didn't move much yesterday my steps were 575. So far today I am making up for it - so far I'm at 1919 and not quite ready to turn in. I also got on the scale today and found I have lost another 2 pounds. Way back when I started at 210 and my goal then was to get under 200. The goal was 185 - never thought I would be at 175. These past few month have made me change my eating habits especially doing more eating at home. Even though I don't like cooking for one, it seems to be working.

Pat, nice that your husband stepped up to help you, but know how good it feels to start doing some of things for yourself. Just don't overdo!

Had a great session with the SAGE (Safety and Gait Enhancement) Physical Therapist this afternoon. Exactly what I need. I have six more sessions in the next four weeks. She is a jewel. Very grateful for this blessing. Roberta emoticon

Happy Grandparents day to REE!

DH and I are living a very Happy GGParents day here at the moment.
3 of our brilliant and adorable little ones are spending a few hours with our DD today while their mother works . They are so well behaved and polite. We are proud!

I checked out FLYLadies site., Roberta! Wow! She is so motivational.!!! If we didn't enjoy house work before we do now!
DD has been doing all the dishes but tomorrow morning I plan to to do them myself!

First-fill empty sink with hot water. Add chlorine beach . Let sit for an hour- then empty and scrub with Clorox powder. Rinse.clean all edges and faucets etc. With old toothbrush. Use dentil floss on all hard to reach places. After final rinse-dry and shine with fresh towel. What have I forgotten.? Oh yes, better use tongs to empty sink and or rubber gloves keep your hands out of Clorox water if you use it.

I thought I was meticulous but this lady has me beat all to shucks! Love her!!

Enjoy!
Hugs, Pat
Ps-I went to the kitchen and finished filling the dishwasher, washed the hand wash dishes and have the sink ready for the above mentioned treatment in the morning.
I want to start contributing to the chores around here to help our DD who cares for us night and day.

Good Evening,

Well nothing much happening here and things are as normal as normal can be. Spend the second half of the evenings chatting up with my DD & DDIL and today evening Natasha my DGDIL set up a conference call on Skype where all 3 of us, Susan, Sara & me and we spent an enjoyable hour catching up. My son has his check-up today & hope all goes well for him.

Lois seems like all of us enjoy jigsaw puzzles...my 8 yr old DGGGD & I love doing jigsaw puzzles together. This Saturday we worked on a 256 piece puzzle and is lying half completed on our table with the promise that she would be back on Tuesday evening to complete it.

Pat, always sad when children return back to their place of work....those cookies that you and your DH are cooking up for the family sound delicious. Good to know that you are well on the road to recovery....PTL

Ree & Roberta, goes with me too, spending time on the I-pad or the laptop....amazing how technology can have us addicted.... I really believe I would be lost without my computer.
There are days when DH trows up a tantrum when he sees me on the computer for long....

Roberta thanks for sharing your FLY lady wisdom....does make sense....however when I was managing the home I really never felt house work was a chore....was always a house proud lady and loved to maintain a spic & span home....still try to...

have a great new week....

Hugs,Prayers & Blessings

I just re-joined FLY Lady--again for the umpteenth time! Here is an excerpt from this morning's musing:

"The essential point is that until you take care of you; you cannot take care of everything else. This is why FLYing; Finally Loving Yourself is our foundation. The second crucial message is that housework is not a chore. When you change your attitude toward housecleaning to reflect your inner peace, your chores become a daily blessing to your home, your family and most of all to you!

This transformation allows you to pass on this peace and help you find your purpose for living. We are all put on Earth for a reason and it is only after we get rid of our household clutter and mind clutter that we can see our path to personal fulfillment."

This message was for me. Love, Roberta emoticon

Hello again on Monday
Roberta . Like me you spend a lot of time online. I don't know what I did before computers and now my iPad which I see as a life line,
I also had an easy day yesterday, I had slept very little on Saturday night so I had no energy to exercise, I thought a day off won't make a lot of difference , we have to listen to our bodies now,,
its Grandparents days today I am told ,so I shall pray and be thankful for them all today .
Mani I smiled at the lovely story of your husband , yet it's sad too, , it was a compliment in one way that he does not see you as fat now. Dementia is a lot like childhood , I often think I have another toddler in the house now,
Yetsetday my son Ian sent a message asking could I look out any childhood photos of him and take them later, we were going them for a meal . Well you know what happens when you are looking at photos, we kept getting sidetracked ,my poor husband kept getting mixed up saying .this is Ian . No it's not that is John and so on, but I did find some and take them . They were having a memories evening with their church group later it sounds a great idea,
Enjoy your day and week ahead . Ree

Hi friends-it is 11:00pm here and I am still up.
Well I am actually propped up in bed in my PJ's and watching DETROIT Tigers ball game.-- 7th inning and DETROIT is ahead by 5--DH is still in his easy chair and watching the same game from another room.

Our COLORADO guests have gone to bed. They leave early tomorrow for home.

Today was a good day as I continue to get stronger. Happy that I reached my purposeful walking goal. A little more today than yesterday is all I ask! My purposeful walking and mindful eating is paying off. I am losing about 1/4 pound a day .

DH and I whipped up another batch of Molasses cookies as the last batch has all been given away or eaten. This time we replaced all the fat with applesauce. Different texture but still good. Our house guests really liked them:)

Like Mani says- I am so impressed with all that you do, LOIS , as well. Your light shines in so many ways. And am glad you are adding more steps daily as well.

Roberta, you are making my mouth water ( except for the chicken, of course) with the great meals you create! I love your positive attitude and quotes!

Marsha, your jig saw puzzle hobby is a great way to keep our minds sharp. We enjoy doing jig saws too. We have some in TEXAS that we are working on. CHRISTMAS Gifts from our grandkids.

Mani, I enjoy your posts so much. It seems I learn something new from your lifestyle ---each post.m. example-. I had never thought about sitting in the sun for a spell to absorb the vitamin D from your oil rubs. I Plan to apply idea. when I get back to TEXAS hopefully on another month or so.

I am glad Ree , that you are thinking about her your own health plan. We can only be of help to others if we care for ourselves first. It is great that you are taking time to exercise too. Your self care has enabled you to keep at goal weight for 2 years now. We are proud of you.,

Guess I better get some sleep.
Busy day tomorrow.
Hugs, Pat

Thanks Lois, and some days we need a day of rest. I love jigsaw puzzles, have several framed that DH and I used to do. Find it hard to do them without him here. When the weather cools off I will try one again. The evenings are so long when the time changes and it always gave us something to do, and with his dementia I wanted to keep his mind as active as I could.

Have a great week.

Evening to all! Taking a few minutes before cleaning up the kitchen and bed time. Had a lovely Sunday and used it as a day of rest. I did get 1426 steps in yesterday, but not so much today. Got caught up in my latest book and a jigsaw puzzle.

Wishing everyone a fabulous coming week

Evening! We had picture perfect weather today - plus it was coffee group day. We have a couple extra guests today - one of the gals sister from up North and her granddaughter. It always adds something new with guests. Used to walker today as my friend was not joining us today and I never know where I will be parking and/or how far I will have to walk.

It a little shopping after - came home to get back to reading my favorite author, Lee Childs' latest book.

Steps yesterday only 815, but then that is better than none. So far today it is going a little better.

Wishing all a blessed Sunday!

This is a beautiful day in my neighborhood. I just finished a huge salad with chicken, tomatoes, mixed greens, and dressing. Delish! I am trying to be conscious of the amount of carbs I eat and keep them in moderation--fruit, not bread or yogurt. I downloaded some e-books from Chris Kresser, and carbohydrate and glycemic charts from Dr. David Perlmutter. Printed out the latter two to keep in the kitchen. I have a couple of paleo books on hold on Amazon to order or not. Kresser has some good free ebooks to download. I signed up for his email, too. The bread I have made in recent past has been very tough! Must be the different wheat--the GMO being raised now. The last loaf was delicious while hot, but not after cooled. I will be able to resist any cravings for it from now on.

Time to get moving--I'm still in my jammies! I don't know what I did all morning! Stuff online as usual, I guess. Cleaned up email on the iPad for one. Ordered books on the laptop. So far, this new one is staying cool. I keep starting over or shifting gears--I guess that is a good thing--to keep changing as I learn better ways of living. Actually, if I do not consciously change to keep up, change happens to me anyway. I like being in control of my life.

I keep smiling, as it makes me feel good on not-so-good days. Love, Roberta

Good Morning....

Today is a lovely, bright and sunshiny morning....have just finished my weekly oil massage and sitting out in the sun to get my dose of Vit D and my ayurvedic practitioner insists that allowing the oil to get absorbed by the skin for at least an hour after the massage is good. So thought I'd do what I love doing most playing catch up with friends.....

Well as Pat you rightly said indeed our 4 grand kids and their children too are really working hard to keep the 2 of us entertained and not miss their parents/grandparents. Spent Wednesday evening with our newest Great-great-grands, the twins Neil & Nina who are all of 3 months and look oh so precious....on Thursday went over to spend the day at my only surviving Brother's place. So my sister, Lucy, DH & I had a lovely day with Joe and my sis-in-law Lizzy. Lizzy & I have been child hood friends of almost 80 years and Lizzy is 87. She had a fall in May and had fractured her hip, ever since she is on a wheelchair and can barely walk using a walker...but she manages to still get out when she wants to. They have 8 sons, but only 2 live with them the rest are all either in Dubai or in the UK.

Ree, I am sure that you can relate to this.... Well must tell you this funny thing, on Thursday as we were getting dressed, DH had fallen asleep and his nurse Mahesh, had to wake him up to say it was almost time to leave. He was kind of dis-oriented and wasn't wearing his glasses either, so he points at me where my nurse was braiding my hair and asks Mahesh "Who is that Aunty?" Mahesh tells him that it was me... Saying "Peri-Appappa that is Peri Ammamma" (Grandpa that is big Grandam) So he clicks his tongue and says can't be, "Your Peri-Ammamma is very fat and not so old" .... God Bless his soul...while making me feel that I've lost weight he immediately made me feel that I was very old....
This remained the topic of our amusement the entire Thursday...but I am also a bit disturbed about his dis-orientation....doesn't bode well for dementia.

Pat I am so happy reading about your recovery so glad that you are back to your purposeful walking....well you have been the inspiration for me to do the 2 rounds of half hour walking in the morning and the evenings, well that makes me feel good...despite the walk being slow and i keep looking at the distance covered to make sure I get better every day, more steps in the same time. Pat your DGD's boy friend sure sounds like what the children say these days 'a dreamboat'....But always sad to see children leaving.... But glad you got to enjoy them and make some memories.

Lois..wow another inspiration and imagine with all the things you do by yourself alone.....I am so dependent that I need my nurse to take me to the bathroom too...well that is my next goal. Good going on the Fit Bit. Lois have you tried reflexology for Sciatica...it is extremely effective...if you have any reflexology centres nearby please check it out.

Marsha, hope the new wheels have arrived.....

Have a great weekend....

Hugs, Prayers & Blessings to all

Just dropping in to say "HI", and then need to clean up the kitchen and then bedtime.

Pat, the prayer shawls go to those who are ill, suffering a loss, and sometimes to wish good speed in new ventures. The baptism shawls go to the little ones being baptized. The little pocket prayer squares are used by the Caring Response Team as they visit the shut ins. I am now making little baby colored pocket square which are sent when a baby is born. It is a great ministry and happy to be part of it. We are also knitting small book marker with the cross in the center like the pocket square.

My steps yesterday were 1774. Was really surprised as the previous day had been only 788. I found that I need to wear my pedometer on my left hip to get a more realistic count as my right side is the one with the fractured knee cap and the sciatic issues. Onward and onward is my motive to just keep moving and hopefully increase my steps up and up.

Have a great weekend and be sure to tell someone you love them.

Good for you, REE! While you are making your health plan_ be sure to include a little chocolate! And then purposely walk a few more rounds of the house to burn the calories
Win-Win situation!:)

LOIS, your church Prayer Shawls are such a kind project Where do they end up?
Locally or away?

DD just returned with batch of groceries and spices needed for baking. Now DH and I can whip up a batch of Molasses cookies( as they are allowed on my soft diet if baked soft)

I just did my daily self assignment of purpose walking. Up to 4 LITES lit on my step counter.
Each day I plan to add one more light TIL I reach fully lit. On my Spark Step Counter.

I know Mani is enjoying those beautiful GG kids . We will have 3 of them coming on Monday. For DD to babysit for in PM. Looking forward to seeing them again.
That is the day our out of state guests return home and DH and I each have Dr. Checkups in morning.

I hope Marsha has new wheels by now! We know her son will get just the right fit for her!

Thanks for all the recent messages and goodies sent my way.
I miss Irene and Roberta. I pray all is improving health wise for them.

Hugs, Pat

Know my weakness so I have to work on that now and increase exercise . There is not much planned for weekend so I want to work on my own health plan , I am not giving up! I hope you all have a great weekend. Ree

The Lynx are pretty good and have been the winners for a couple of years, but there is it is tough to always be at the top. Actually where I shop they have stopped bagging for you, but found that if you ask they will accommodate. The rest I can do.

Evening all! The first Thursday of the month several of the ladies that are knitting the prayer shawls get together. We meet from 6:30 to 8:00 and I have finally been able to get there. It is a small group that attend although there are many others that knit for the program as well.

My second day with the pedometer on and yesterday I had 788 steps.. Will post tomorrow, my final number for today. I really should have started wearing it sooner as it helps with the motivation to keep moving.

Almost time for the 10:00 news so bye for now.

Dear Minnesota-gal-Lois!
Sorry our WNBA PHOENIX team (that our Ex Lady Bear, BRITTANY Griner plays for), beat the Minnesota team soundly(-like you care-:)

That does sound like quite a chore for you to go off grocery shopping by yourself! But more power to you! I wonder if you could ask the store management for some help in getting your grocery list filled and put directly into your car? They should be very glad to help!!

Unfortunately I have not had the good or bad experience of shopping alone
this summer. One DD or another has taken care of that because of the physical problems DH and I have had this summer!

You are right about the high cost of foods! Our bills are high but we are thankful that we are vegetarians:) the bills would probably be at least 1/3 more with meat, fish added. !

As of yesterday I am back to wearing my little Spark Step Counter. I love it because it actually
Posts my steps online and I can watch my progress.
Yesterday I did all of 10 minutes,!!
walking 2 minutes at a time
and 2 minutes rest between each Jaunt:)
I stopped at 2 lights--- liting up on my Counter.
Today my goal is 3 LITES . We will see.
Yes! Reached my 3 LITES lit up goal! Yay!

PS- Our DETROIT Tigers got beat miserably last night by Cleveland Indians .

Hugs, Pat

Busy day today! Had planned on getting out early to get groceries, but woke up to rain and more rain. Finally about noon it stopped and off I went. Shopping day are a bit stressful, because getting and out of the car is a little painful. I have a small fold up cart that I take with me along with the cane. The walker stays at home because trying to put that in the grocery cart doesn't leave much room for groceries. By the time I have made a couple different stops, I am more than ready for get home. I can't believe how families can afford to even eat, because with just myself it is overwhelming. I try to use coupons as much as possible, which does help some what.

I put on my pedometer today as I think it is about time I really find out how many steps I am doing. I took it off because of how I was walking and it really didn't record accurately. I will see how it goes now.

Just finished watching So You Think You Can Dance. It is one of my favorite shows and it is really amazing watching these young people grow and perform like professionals. Time to clean up the kitchen so will sign off for now

Hi Mani--our house guests all left this morning to visit with another DD who lives on a small lake.
They will have fun there using the paddle boats. Also for the DGD and her sweet boyfriend there is a young folks music festival going on while they are there! They will enjoy that!

Speaking of the DGD boyfriend. --guess who tapped on our door second morning while here-asking if we wanted breakfast in bed or at the table? Yes, it was he--and when we got to table, , he was alone flipping pancakes for us and no one else had joined him in kitchen yet!
This new generation of young men even know how to cook! :)

Yes LOIS, we are only carrying on our interest in certain teams from previously attending games also.
Two of Our beloved Lady Bears Basketball team that we attended in person in WACO- have now moved on to the WNBA and are now playing for the national leagues ! Now we can watch them televised !
Same for the DETROIT Tigers. We had attended games in person at the old Tiger Stadium.
Now we have much better seats watching up close and personal on TV:)!

Yes, Pat, I am a Minnesota gal, but not too much into the sports. Back in the days when I could attend games, it was great, but now watching on TV is not the same.

Evening to all! I did a little bit better today in the exercising, but it is amazing how quickly you can side backwards. I am also finding the weather changes are making a big difference in how I am feeling. Guess I will just have to rely on my Tylenol for help.

Signing off the evening and get a little more walking in.

First off---congratulations REE on your 2 year achievement of staying at goal weight!
We are proud of you !!!

Mani--Oh, how sweet of your grandsons giving you such wonderful attention in the absence of your
Son and DDIL. I am sure you a very proud of both of them!

Marsha, you may be still waiting on insurance compensation for your demolished car. I am sure you will you will hear soon. Did you ever get a loaner car or rental? You may have said and I missed it.

LOIS--This evening we are missing seeing our former lady Bear basketball star, BRITTANY Griner who now plays for Phoenix against Minnesota in the WNBA . We are not able to access the station it is being shown on. Both she and another former Baylor BB player, Oddesy Sims , are doing great in the WNBA . I am mentioning this as I think you are a Minnesota gal.

DH is now watching a DETROIT a Tigers BB game against Cleveland. DETROIT tigers have been doing very well but are down by one so far tonight. 2 to 1 game continues.

Our COLORADO house guests just returned from being treated to a boat ride out on a Lake Michigan by our DSIL . Nice the weather cooperated. They said they really enjoyed that!

D-caretaker D has returned from her mini vacation and is back in charge to see that we are eating right and getting our MEDS:) for example I told her a short time ago that I was still hungry and she reminded me that my Dr's order sheet requires me to stop eating 2 hours before bedtime:) a See what mean. ?:)

Even though I am on a bland diet I can still get McDougell food choices in bland form. Another couple of weeks ! Whew!

Ok, I will sign off for now. Have a good nights sleep!
Hugs, Pat

Good Afternoon,

Just up after a long nap and am excited as I will have my DGD visiting us today with her 3 grand children. So am looking forward to spending a lovely time with 3 more great-great-grands. The twins are 3 months old and an absolute treat. The older one is 8 but will be busy with her homework as she has school tomorrow. She is allowed to visit us on weekdays only if she promises to complete her studies here. And yes will have a party with the 2 other at home great-great-grands joining in, 2 year old Darius & 10 month old Megan.

With both our son and daughter away, the grands are making an extra effort to care for DH and me, and the 2 of us are enjoying all their company. Yesterday morning I had both my Grandsons by my bed to take me for my morning walk, which I do with my son...I was so touched that both the boys took me for my stroll and patiently let me move as slow as a turtle...I was feeling real guilty but then also felt great with 2 young men propping old me up for a walk...I enjoyed seeing all the heads turn.

Pat, lovely that you also get to spend time with your DGD and her boyfriend...make those memories that's what our children will cherish....Oh and how lovely that your gourmet cook is also making your bland food interesting...God Bless the dear child.

Well Lois getting all the exercise and knitting is actual activity, that is how I spend most of my days and then get pleasantly surprised when a great niece or nephew drop by to visit us.

Ree...that's simply great...being on goal weight and maintaining for 2 years...Woo Hoo...

Marsha, hope you get new wheels soon....

Roberta hope you Mayo plan is working for you...

Have a lovely Tuesday...

Hugs, Prayers & Blessings
Mani

Good evening to all! Pat, it sounds like you have a house full. How nice for you as long as you are taking care and letting them pamper you.

I have had a really do nothing day. Will have to ramp up my exercise for the rest of the week to make up for being very lazy. The day consisted of reading, knitting, computer, feeding my face, and checking in with my kids. Checked in with my kids

Have a good coming week and be sure to tell someone you love them.

Happy and healthier September to all of us!!
Hi Mani and friends--yes, our COLORADO DD is here and doing a great job as chief cook and caretaker too. She is very creative with my limited bland allowed foods. Also with her is our DSIL and DGD and her sweet boyfriend. Everyone is being attentive and .helpful
They also are looking forward to visiting 2 other DD's who live on a lakes near by and also have access to Water toys. Some are off enjoying water sports as we speak. But a storm is arriving so I am afraid their fun will be interrupted today. Tomorrow is suppose to be sunny:)

LOIS, how wonderful that you got to chat with a along time friend! One of our old friends called last night to check on us. And she didn't even know about my surgery and recuperation. !!

I hope Roberta is feeling better with her new found knowledge. Glad to hear Mani's son had a good experience at Mayo too!

Marsha, any update on replacing your car? With all our house guests here we are lending them our car for trips outside the neighborhood. But they are experienced backpackers and hiking is their hobby so they are having fun exploring locally also. We are only a mile from beautiful Lake Michigan

:)

Hugs, Pat

Checking in! Nice Sunday - went to church and saw and sat with an old friend. I was the elementary school secretary and she was one of my most favorite first grade teachers Almost 30 years ago, but what fun to see her and touch base Happy that she has joined the church so will probably see more of her.
