Still using my little I-phone timer to get my 5 minute walks in. Today i swiched my walking to actually doing needed household chores. It only took a few 5 minute sessions to completey clean my bathroom! 5 minute clean then 5 minute reading my cirrent book. The things i di to trick myself into effortlessly doing anything😀

I am trying to get my exercise mojo back, it's too easy to make exercises, I am not very mobile but trying to do few minutes seated exercises daily or a short walk,

Both yesterday and today I did my 16 different PT assignments.and after each one I walked 5 minutes. Total walking time each day-80 minutes.💃🏼😰

I read that the minimum purposeful walking we should do daily is 21 minutes. I completed my 21 minutes around 4:00 pm doing so in 7 minute intervals

Worked in kitchen all morning- baked 4 Texas sheet cakes and did dishes and clean up!
My contribution to party. Getting ready for 60 some guests tomorrow.
Pretty good for an 89 year old.

I did the chair, upper body, lower body and stretches - instructions from my PT. Then walked for 7 minutes. ( i will add a minute every day til get to 15 minute walks)

Did my first set of strength exercises this morning. 5 different ways of increasing muscle strength in lower body-repeated 15 times each exercise. Then i used the walker indoors-15 trips to kitchen and back from one end of house to othere.

15 seems to be the magic number suggested by my PT for now!
It helped me reach my goal of 30 minute walk-anyway!

I am so proud of myself:)!
I set my timer for an -in house 2 minute walk- every 30 minutes- and have done 9 so far today. !!! My goal is eventually reaching 30 minutes daily.
Remember-anything I can do-you can do better!!!

Will I am back on line. After coffee hour at church I went to Best Buy and got a new Dell laptop. Nothing fancy, just simple that I could set up and get on line.

Hope everyone is having a great Mother's Day. Geo. will be here Tues. to pickup Spade. He and Karen went out of town for a little R & R, which they both needed, Spade is a great entertainer. :)

My exercise for the day, I get up every morning and start unpacking! The only organized room is the bathroom. The rest is CHAOS! In spite of all the exercise, I have not shed more pounds-- I've been loading up on carbs to get going. As soon as I get the hang of using the new stove, I will start cooking again. And I will visit the exercise room every day.

Things have improved since moving in May 1, and soon all will be organized and calm.

Added one minute on Elliptical every 30 minutes. (My first time back to Elliptical since surgeries!total so far-4 minutes!) So proud of myself!

Also cleaned and sorted one closet and starting on second.
I think I may be trying to out do Roberta. ! One bag of giveaways and one bag of tosses.
And my first closet looks very nice and organized!

WooHoo- my tracker lit up with two lites today! First time in a long time.m
DH and I shopped for 2 flats of flowers. At his favorite hardware store.
One flat of 18 blue and white pansies and another flat of 18 bluebonnets.
Came home and he helped me plant the pansies in pots across front porch and he also dug
The holes in front lawn and we planted the bluebonnets. Our bluebonnets from last year had to be mowed down to be rid of a nasty weed that had taken over!
Starting over is always an option.!
So my gardening will have to count as exercise!! emoticon

Another semi-urgent matter taken care of: On phone and computer right out of bed this morning! Car license tabs and auto/home insurance all coming due next month--just before I am to move! Had to pay car tabs for the entire year! No choice! No beneficial extension! Auto/home insurance premiums will be less--a bonus! License fees for car plates will in less than here. Another bonus. (From 8:30 to 11:00!)

This morning's efforts will pay off. I feel a bit frazzled. I did take time for breakfast, as it was lunch time.

It is 6:40 pm, and I'm still feeling frazzled. Had a late lunch of bacon and eggs, all that protein should have boosted my energy. Guess I will start my bedtime sooner than usual. I will be back to feeling good tomorrow after a good night's sleep. I've been sleeping better these past few nights since drinking a glass of milk before retiring.

Our cleaning lady came today so my main job was to get the clutter picked up ahead of her.
which besides cooking and dishes is about all the "exercise" I got done today.

Pat, you are my inspiration!

I did more de-cluttering today, but forgot to notice the time to log it. There is another good sized item to put down in the "free" area in the basement. Added more stuff to be shredded at Office Depot, and more boxes of stuff to go through!

Twenty-eight more days to my goal of having things cleared out. April 15 is my deadline. Then the rest is last-minute activities. "Phil" will be here 03/23 going through everything to be moved, and "Alyssa" will be assessing valuables to be insured and will be here 03/25.

When Phil is here, I will call my daughter to ask her questions--speaker phones are so handy. She has experience moving, so she will have questions I would never think to ask.

I keep forgetting to go to the store for food and staples, and tell myself to make time to cook. Thank goodness for protein smoothies. Will stop off for chicken and veggies Alfredo tomorrow. My favorite dish to cook and eat--so easy and so GOOD!

Great, Roberta! I wish i could say as much. My cooking , cleaning and emptying and cleaning
My containers cupboard doesn't quite qualify as exercise but necessary jobs done anyway.
I did get in a little of my walking but not as much as yesterday.

I did leg exercises and crunches before getting out of bed this morning.
Then did three sets of ten of leg and body exercises while in the kitchen waiting for my tea water to boil and at the stove cooking bacon and eggs later on. Also, I do leg and ankle exercises while sitting watching TV, but I forget to time them!!!

I did several walks around house like yesterday but spent most of my active time in kitchen
Cooking. Vegetable broth from scratch and then asparagus soup using the broth.
Also get a workout shining up our new pots and pans !.

I am setting my timer to walk around my house and deck -just once-for every 30 minutes through out my day! It's a start to get back to my purposeful walking since surgeris, again!

I didn't go to Jazzercise today, but I vacuumed our whole house which involved lots of walking and moving furniture, so I feel like I've had some exercise. I'll be back at Jazzercise on Monday.

Thank you, Fay. What seems to be working (so far) is when I have a few moments pause while waiting for tea water to some to a boil, or something on the stove, I do my "counter balance" as Pat named it. When I am sitting at my computer or watching TV, I tighten my abs and butt, and alternatively move my legs or feet which ever way I can to keep moving. Then at times, I will get up and swing my arms (bent 90 deg) and march in place, just briefly, just long enough to rev up my heart a little. Every little bit helps.

Good for you for making it to your mailbox. That is a great start. Pat adds a few minutes more to her exercises every day. She sets an example for me.

Since my exercise has been almost nil so far this year, I wanted to record here that Mark and I walked for 35 minutes today. I've been afraid to walk outside beyond our court as to get my mail because my legs have been a bit wobbly. Of course, I need to wait until my feet hit to ground to realize if it helped but so far they seem stronger. emoticon

Roberta and Pat, I glad the 2 of you remain active and encourage each other.

Pat, you are fortunate indeed to have the companionship of your husband, family, and pets. That makes a big difference. I expect to be moving in a few months to be close to my daughter. Since my son passed, there is nothing to keep me here. Our building is now up for sale and that was the final nudge to make changes.

Both your exercise routines and your bedroom ritual are great ideas., Roberta!
I will have to add the counter balance action to my walking routine.

As for sleeping, I never have a problem with that:). Once Brooklyn Is in her cage side of our bed, and lights are out, I am too( til 3:00 am that is-potty run-). Back to bed and sleep TIL 7:00 AM usually. But if I wake earlier I get up , catch up on my I-Pad and then prepare BR.

I kept moving yesterday and racked up 11,373 steps. Plus, slept much, much better last night--99% for sleep efficiency--that is a miracle! I dim the lights early in the evening in the living room, turn on the fan in my bedroom, and play "rain" CDs all night, the TV is turned down low and on a timer. All these TO-DOs are working together to improve my health. I feel SO Blessed and SO GRATEFUL!

I just created an exercise for myself (probably it is out there somewhere): at my kitchen counter, I touch the counter with my fingers for balance, raise up on my tiptoes, tighten butt and stomach, and hold for 15 seconds, three sets.

Regarding# 7- I think I have found a way to keep moving Inspite of my
Health condition.
I set the timer for 1 hour , drink 1glass water, and walk 10 minutes.
I am up to 50 minutes completed and 5 gasses water consumed:)

The only activity I got in was the work in the kitchen, cooking, cleaning and dishes.
Still only 1 lite on my tracker);f
But I am proud that my sinks are all shined almost every time I use them. Learned that from FlyLady. Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Today_ I did 10 minute walks with 5 minute breaks between.
Reached 8,364 steps to now,
Walked 190 minutes,
And best of all burned 690 calories.

The calorie burn will help with the extra goodies we had today on top of our healthy meals!
A sliver of apple pie with dollop of cool whip
A 60 calorie dark chocolate mini ICECREAM
And about3 cups of popcorn tonight.

I decided to try something new and pretty painless to keep me moving all day. ( it is so easy to just SIT at our age:). Setting kitchen timer to go off every hour all day and I do a 5 minute walk!
A painless way to get in lots of walking throughout the day.
Will keep you posted.m

Wow! Roberta!! Your energy really is back! Good for you! Setting goals for yourself is paying off big time.
With my current condition I am pleased to get in my 30 min. Walks before breakfast.

That was wise of your daughter to set a later date to come to celebrate with you.

Our cleaning lady just left. I told her she can come back for 2 hours every week if she wants.
She hugged me and thanked me for the job! Now that was worth it to make her so happy.
We are squeaky clean around here for the moments.

Hi Roberta! No, to answer your question, Only the two single daughters join us every year for CHRISTMAS at our TEXAS DD's and husbands house. -along with our Texas grandchildren. All the rest stay with their own grandchildren back home. It is still a very happy celebration !

Do you have any family near you, Roberta?

I had a busy day today after doing my morning walking.
Baked up a new batch of apple muffins but thud time found a recipe that' included mashed black beans for protein. ( I actually used my cooked pinto beans ) pretty good. I had to bake them longer than suggested as the were still quite moist at first.

Thank you so much , Roberta for the lovely bouquet ! It truly lifts my spirits:) I will be so happy to get this next treatment under way.

I slept in TIL 7:00 this AM . Still finally got my 30 minutes of walking in after breakfast and cleaning kitchen.
Actually continued on and swept whole main floor. ( one weeks dirt) and cleaned bathroom as well. I put DH to work too. While I was doing wash and folding clothes and putting away- he made the bed , and put my containers cupboard in order in kitchen by matching up covers to appropriate containers. Big help.
So I see I have 6 lights lit on my Spark Tracker instead of 3:)
House is looking good. Who needs a cleaning lady? Actually DD has scheduled her gal to come later this month. I will have her do the upstairs bedroom and bath . To be ready for our CHRISTMAS guests.

Up at 5:30 again this morning. Did my 30 minute walk.
Good news-I have an appointment to check my recurring prolapsed condition at Scott and White hospital, in Temple Tx. 9:00 am Monday!!
That is great considering the WACO Dr. Couldn't see me TIL January!!!

Great going, Roberta! But hope you get over your muscle problems soon.
I cut back to 30 minute daily walks now instead of 90 as before-because I am getting a recurrence of the prolapse condition that I had surgery for in August. DD here in Texas took me to family DR this morning and he is getting me a referral to a specialist in Temple. Always something! But feel great otherwise.

Fitbit's weekly report this morning (for last week) gave me a total of 68,854 steps, averaging 9,836/day, and best day was 14,379!

This week did not started off well--been experiencing muscle jerks for weeks at night just as I am falling asleep and they jolt me awake! Did not get any info on how to get rid of them, but I do suspect it is a nutritional deficiency, so I took one "Active Senior" multi last night and slept well with only one mini jerk. Mayo diagnosed me with chronic insomnia--I was getting a double whammy!!! Things are looking up!

I won't get any formal exercise today. I spent the last 8 hours in a car going to visit my family. I hope to get in some walking tomorrow before return home.

Stayed at great motel at Texarkana TX last night.
Got up at 4:00-did my 90 minutes this time of walking in motel room.
Then back to bed and alarm rang at 7:30.
Ate BR on the road in car-2 oranges from motel and egg and biscuit from McDonalds.
Where there is a will -there's a way!

Good going CUSH!
I find it is not so easy to get in and off of Elliptical either:)

I rode the exercise bike for 39 minutes this morning. It felt good. The hardest part was getting on the bike.

Stayed at nice hotel in Effingham , Ill last nite.
Set alarm and did 40 minutes purposely walking in Motel room. Before breakfast.
I was ready to travel when DD knocked on door!!.

This morning- did my 90 minutes of walking before breakfast. Finished packing car.
Had my dentist appointment at noon. DD and DH picked me up and we headed out with packed car for a Texas.
We are now going to be looking for a motel soon. . Just had a delicious dinner -got my vegetarian plate-at Cracker Barrell

Wow! great going CUSH, Roberta, Peggy, FAY!!!
You guys are amazing! You put me to shame!

But, I am trying to not miss my purposeful walking as we will be on the road for a few days- not much moving for me for a while!
This morning got up about 5:30 and had my 90 min. Walk finished by 7:00.

The remainder of my exercise was in assembling and packing today! Now that was work!!!:)

Keep up the great moving- friends!
