Aloha and a big welcome to the newcomers! I'm a newcomer here also (just found the group a month of so ago), and have found that checking in is something important to my maintaining this style of living.

I have reached goal and now at a point where I will begin to maintain this style of living - what I like to think of nurturing the Mind, Body & Spirit.
I've done this in the past - gained and lost - and regained and lost. And I am a very slow loser so each time I started this journey, losing that regained weight got harder and harder.

It's taken me 20 months to lose this 50 lbs!! That computes to just a few lbs a month. When I am tempted into thinking that I can eat this or that (refined and processed foods that I dearly loved), I think about regaining that weight and having to start over again.

I'll be 68 next month and can honestly say that I am healthier than I've been for a very long time. Also, happy and content.

Thanks to all for the support and encouragement this team provides.

Oh wow, so I guess it's confirmed that we get the shows quite some time later than they're actually being broadcasted! emoticon
I didn't know about Furhmann having a show on PBS, I'm so behind the moon here, living overseas! LOL

I was looking at his new book; too pricey for me right now but hopefully in the US I'll be able to get it from the library to read!
Do you happen to know if the 2nd edition of his ETL book is having more recipes? I only have the 1st edition..

I saw him on Dr. Oz show about a month ago, it was about his new book . Furhman also had a show on PBS channel.

I argee I wish they had the whole show about furhman.

Did anyone watch Dr. Fuhrmann at the Dr.Oz show? I was so excited to see him this morning! (We're getting military broadcasted tv here so the shows might be a few days older than they were shown in the US, not sure!?)
I only wish he'd have kept him as a subject for the entire show! There's a board on Pinterest with more of Furhmann's recipes though: pinterest.com/doctoroz/fuhrman-recip

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the team but not necessarily to E2L. While I don't follow it to a 'T', I'm a vegan and eat a ton of veggies and fruit as well as whole grains and try to avoid anything processed so I hope I can still be accepted here? emoticon

Hey Jenn, Way to commit! I lost 10 lbs my first week. I am currently finishing up day 12. Will weigh in on Monday. I did slip just a bit while I was at the game this evening when the band director offered me chocolate cake on the bus ride home. My daughters play in the band and I do half time announcing. I made do with 4 bites instead of the whole thing. Otherwise, I've been Mr. stick2it. This is my first time on E2L. Trying my hand at making some sort of indian dal tomorrow. All the best! -Pat

I joined a few friends for one last (or next to last) exercise in our community pool before they close it for the Winter. We might get in a dip tomorrow, but I'm not sure. It was lovely and the exercise was so good for me. I will feel stiff and sore tomorrow, but that's okay. It's good for me.

I have been on the 6-week plan now...for about 6 months. I lost about 30 pounds and then lost motivation. I am working on the motivation and trying to get a place set up for me to get some exercise in at home. Primarily, I have stuck to the 6-week plan 90% of the time, except my favorite cheat foods keep calling to me. I will recover from the slippage and will get back on track. I felt more energetic when eating according to the 6-week plan, with little food cravings. And I liked that energy and not thinking about food all the time.

Salad is the main meal of the day. Great mantra!

When I talked with my daughter-in-law over the weekend, she said cancer doesn't usually hurt, at least not in the early stages. She has just finished nursing school and is a registered nurse. She is also going back to school to become a Nurse Practitioner. So since I am having pain, I am going to take it that it is not cancer, but I don't think I will change my diet, except to maybe cut down on the broccoli, because the same diet will help my vision, too.

With that being said I do have some improvement with the right breast. The skin is softer than it was at the doctor's office.

I'm actually going to say goodbye for a bit- I know this plan can work but I want to focus on exercise and sticking to E2:L right now is not going to be the best for me- I'm not saying it does not work- I just have some crazy stuff going on.

I'm still floundering, but not due to any issues with the Eat to Live Plan. I start out great in the morning, but then after lunch I go into 'munchies' phase. My family isn't interested int he plan, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to keep the trigger foods that they love, out of my reach.

What are some of your favorite lunches? Do you actually weight your veggies to make sure you're getting enough, or just eye ball it?

Week 6 day 2 and I finally hit the 10 lb mark. I feel so good. I upped the water and added more vegetables like lentil soup and brown ri e and rye with vegetables. I think I may not have been eating enough although I wasn't hungry. I also switched to oatmeal w/ water in the am instead of a smoothie. I also have been to the gym 3 days this week. Who knows what helped with all the changes but I needed that inspiration. Thanks for all your encouragement.

Just checking in. I am trying to be more consistent with diet and exercise otherwise I am going over the same ground. I started exercising 10minutes in the morning and also meditating 10 minutes in the morning and it sets the tone for the whole day. Once I got a habit going it wasn't so hard to add time after awhile. I am taking it a day at a time. Started Spark Coach and that has helped too.

It's a nice Labor Day here in Florida.
I made the Spark recipie of the day - Herbed Bulgur and Lentil Salad. Since I have given up wheat, I replaced the bulgur by increasing the amount of parsley. I put in the whole bunch so I ended up with a lentil tabouleh. I am very happy with the way it turned out and have it aging in the fridge.
I made no weight loss progress ths week. Maybe increasing my calories was not a good decision. emoticon

I was going to get a test done to diagnose the problem I have - infection or breast cancer. Once I checked into the test - a mammogram, ultra sound, and biopsy - I decided against the tests. I am going to stay on the ETL diet - sort of - and just wait for my own results. The radiation of the mammogram would have put me at risk for breast cancer if I didn't already have it or make it worse if I did. The ultra sound would not tell anyone anything and would need the biopsy which would allow air into the area which would have made it much worse. What I wanted was a thermagram, but was told it was not done anymore, because it was insufficient. However, Dr. Joseph Mercola, says it is very safe and sufficient. I am just going to stick with the diet - raw food - and I know with God's help that it will be okay.

I had a beautiful, wonderful, happy day yesterday. Other than signing checks for our community (I’m treasurer) and to drop my car off at the home of the man who does detailing, I had no other responsibilities. So I spent the majority of the day working in my yard. Mostly weeding a bank that I let get away from me. I had a perfect food day and the scale confirmed that this morning. Now I am set for another day just like yesterday. More work in the yard before the storm rains reach Tennessee.

Oh, and I am down 1.4 pounds since yesterday by having perfect ETL food and more water and exercise.

Good news! I hadn't visited my heart doctor in 5 years, so I finally did the appointment. The stress test says NO blockage. At 70, I think that's excellent. I attribute it to ETL.

I use onion powder, garlic powder, mrs. dash, dill weed. a little vinegar, lemon juice.

And I use alot.

Curry Powder and Masala mix are both great seasonings for all veggies and beans. Some of the ingredients in these mixes are especially good for you -- turmeric, coriander, cardamom, cumin. If you like spicy use chili powder, cayenne and/or black pepper.

I haven't cooked with salt or added salt to food at home (unless it's a small amount in some mixture of spices) for years and I find when I go to a restaurant I always react badly to the salt in the foods and retain water and therefore gain weight.

I have done without salt for some time. Once in a great while I may put salt on something. I heard that lime juice is a good salt substitute, too. It works for me,, or just put another seasoning in the beans, like cumin, chili powder, or garlic. I used to put butter and salt and onion in my beans, then "garnish" with ketchup or vinegar. But I also put fried potatoes and cornbread under them, too. Won't be doing that any time swoon.

I know some foodies won't agree and it probably doesn't work for everyone, but Dr Fuhrman says it, and I have experienced it personally: if you go without the salt you will eventually learn to taste and really enjoy the underlying food. Our senses have all been overhyped on salty/buttery/sugary concoctions. We are craving those tastes but there is a wonderful diversity of other flavors to be experienced when we wean ourselves off them.
I make many dishes with no spice type seasonings, just the whole food ingredients.
