Saw the Eat to Live program on ETV a couple of weeks ago. Ordered the book, read it, found your group, joined yesterday and had planned to start my new way of eating today. Of course the first thing I did was wake up and grab a piece of pound cake. emoticon My Mom makes a great one and brought one over for my b'day earlier in the week and I have a bunch of bad old habits I'm going to have to break . BUT lunch is a new start and Im' going to eat an apple in a minute. I need to loose alot of weight. Whole lot. And its not going to be quick because I'm an over 50 . But I am actually excited because Dr. Furhman's ideas make sense and I really love fruit and veggies. (and pound cake) LOVE thatI don't have to measure, weigh, track every little green thing. So, hello group! I'm very happy to be here.

I can't believe it is Friday already. I have been SWAMPED this week. But it will pay off, have a couple closings scheduled and 2 new contracts accepted today.

Welcome Kerrifair! Take your time. Take it easy. Dont force yourself to do anything that will make it more difficult. Look at this as an adventure. A fun adventure. Think of all the yummy fruits and vegetables you can have. Look forward to the day when you realize that the food has more flavor than you remember. Tell us where you are having a problem and I am sure that the knowledgeable people here can offer suggestions and help. AND, I took a water exercise class this Summer that was also NOT aerobics, that was fun and it felt so good. They are closing our little community pool on Monday so then I will have to drive 30 miles to the closest indoor, heated pool after that.

Susancdavis, glad to hear it is going well for you. I would like to hear more about your meal plans.

Well, I am not doing fabulously with Eat To Live.. but this place feels so welcoming so I am going to stick around and hope to do better with the plan.. I just got home from an hour of "water exercise".. it isn't aerobics but more resistance training. It was SO FUN. The pool at the YMCA felt great... I am wayyyyy out of shape compared to all the people 30+ years my senior. Funny people.. I laughed a ton. going again on Friday... go me!

This weekend I've had a chance to puruse the postings and was pleased to see that we seem to be transitioning into this new way of eating very well.

I am preparing to start week 2 and this week I want to focus on daily meail plans that are no more than 12 gms of fat per day. The main source of fat in last weeks meal plan were the Flaxseed and Soy Chips, the vegetarian refried beans and the Tasty Bite Beans and Lentils so I am going to try something different in those areas. I am busy today so will not change anything until Tuesday or Wednesday. I have meetings downtown Monday afternoon and will go visit the mother ship (The Whole Foods West of downtown Austin) afterwork to look for alternatives - also need to stock up on my favorite green tea Allegro China Clouds and Mist (highly recommend).. I do plan to make a few things Dr Fuhrman's Slaw and Julie Berg's Power Lunch ( a Vitamix recipe).

Last week I lost 4 lbs. Not sure what to make of this just yet I had already been dieting (Nutrisystem) since May but but my weight loss stalled in mid July. I went on vacatioin and was a bit lax - gained back a few lbs that came back off almost immediately, but seemed to halt my weight loss - not a single pound lost in August even though I went into plateau busting mode. Eat to Live is not so much about weight loss for me as it is aout health. I am having blood work done this month so we shall see.

Hiiiii....haven't been around the past few days because it's been non stop work for me. I work at a local radio station and our town has seen the worst flood in the town's history. People are devastated, and we've been broadcasting around the clock to get information out to people. Luckily the area my house is in was not affected by flood waters. We were without power, but that is only of a minor concern when you think about what other people are dealing with right now. It REALLY puts things into perspective for me. I'm rethinking how I think about life and my work now...it's a lesson I'm happy to be learning when I'm in my mid-20s as I am adjusting to the "adult" life still (even though I am 4 years out of college).

Hi Stephanie, sorry to hear about your kitchen troubles! Darn that mother nature!


Do you have a microwave to cook with? Have you ever tried the Glad (I think they are glad...one of those companies anyway) Microwave Steamer bags? They are AWESOME. You can steam pretty much anything in them!! Great for microwave cooking. Back when I ate meat, I made chicken in them all of the time. Just throw a little mrs dash on there and cook in the microwave. BUT you can use them for all sorts of veggies. I even imagine you could cook some veggies up in one, put them in a food processor, add in some veggie stock, then put that mixture in a bowl and back in the microwave for a few minutes and you'll have some pretty nice soup on your hands :).

Hi everyone!

I've been away for a long time again. The digits on my scale got a little higher while I was gone. Booooo.

I had some damage in my kitchen due to heavy rains and wind last May so I have been without a stove, oven, and sink since then. I was eating a lot of vegetarian fast food -----triple poooop


Finally I decided I would buy Naked Juice smoothies and add pre-ground flax. That is helping me drop some weight. Down 8 since August 1 so everything is going in the right direction. I can't rinse beans easily so I am just eating tofu with greens for the time being. I seem to do that 1 -2 times per day and that is helping to cut some stubborn weight.

If anyone has suggestions for this situation let me know!

Good Morning! I have been doing fantastic with my food choices for the last 16 days (except for the bad day with the Lay's Potato Chips) and....yesterday....! I had an incredibly busy day at work yesterday. It was Move In Day for freshmen at the College I work at. There was food everywhere I was not a good girl. When I got home, I even ate pizza from pizza hut as my husband had bought it for a treat for him and dd. I was very disgusted with myself when I reflected back on my day. But, today is a new day and I am not going to let yesterday undermine my progress. I have consistently been losing weight and I am going to continue on the right path. My goals for September are as follows:

1. Continue to Eat to Live
2. Continue a minimum of 2 boot camp classes each week (hoping for 3 if my work schedule allows)
3. Walk each morning for 60 minutes
4. Add in Hot Yoga classes at least 2x a week.

Hello all -
I'm using this long weekend to get started and have had a really good first day. I did have some sorbet that had non-fat yogurt in it and I forgot to weigh this morning but other than that I've stayed true to the program and feasted on one pound of raw vegetables, one pound of lightly steamed vegetables, four fruits and one cup of beans. I ordered a Vitamix which arrived yesterday and it is made it easier to get all those greens in. Since this is more of a lifestyle change than a diet I did not track my food in the tracker. I am curious to know how others living the ETL lifestyle are using this site.

As for my Sept. Plan. I am starting a new weight training routine. It is 12 weeks long and Sept is 3x per week while body. I plan on rocking it. Oh and I get to go back to the gym!

I am almost ready for this week. Got a little more cooking to do so that we can then "coast." I may try one of Fuhrman's ideas---adding roasted eggplant to hummus to reduce the caloric density.

BTW, the 3 Incredible Steps package has a nice recipe book with new recipes I hadn't seen before. Some of them were contributed by members on his website.

I watched the cooking video in the package, and I think the "No recipe" people would like it, because he explains the principles of how he invents his recipes, for example salad dressings.

The most effective health-care is self-care.

Nutrition is the prescription.

You can literally stretch your lifespan by shrinking your waistline.

Nutrition and other lifestyle factors that you can choose are a more significant determinant of your health than genetics.

Filling your stomach with high-nutrient foods is like by-pass surgery without the surgery.
