Downtown Shreveport is filled with stories—from deadly turn-of-the-century gunfights to hangings in the courthouse. So many bodies needed embalming that multiple buildings did duty as morgues, and some still have the original ‘gut sinks’ to prove it. The ravages of sorry sanitation in a frontier town were a precursor to 1873, when people started dropping dead in the streets. The Yellow Jack, as the deadly Yellow Fever was called, claimed the lives of 25% of the city’s population before subsiding. How many of those spirits still walk our streets and stalk our buildings?
I do! and I would LOVE to go.... but I can't afford it this year!! :/
