So I finally watched the Jones vs Gustafsson fight and it left me wondering... Does anyone else think Jones should have lost that fight? With strikes and takedowns, I saw Alexander winning the first three rounds. Jones picked it up towards the end of the 4th and I thought he had what it takes to win the 5th, but not the whole fight. I'm not a hater, I love Jones as much as the next cat, especially after he fought Quinton Jackson. I'm just wondering if anyone agrees with this or if I'm not taking something into consideration? Thanks in advance. :)

It sucks the Barγo fight ended the way it did, but I thought Ricardo Lamas was very impressive. He had such heart and determination, plus I don't think they were highlighting any of his clean shots to Aldos face.

I'm so glad Overeem won! I think this is because I finally didn't wear his shirt in support of him, unlike his last two fights. I just think he could've finished the fight if he wanted to. My favorite fight was the Varner fight in the beginning, it was a "slobber-knocker". lol

Wow!! That was an amazing card this weekend, even the prelims were amazing. In the first prelim, one guy was like a piranha as soon as the match started. Once the co-main event got past the first round, I knew there was a real fight going on. But main event was everything I hoped it would be and more. I normally feel ripped off when I get a PPV with Silva in the main event, but his last two fights had me standing in excitement, followed by pure amazement. emoticon

All the main fights turned out the way I wanted except the main event, they were all amazing fights regardless. I was bummed with the Henderson loss too, but I won't argue against it. Vitor was a beast that night and I'm not sure if anyone would've beat him at that time.

I think Sonnen talked so much smack to/about Jones, that it just added fuel to Jones' fire. I've never seen Jones ground n pound like that...beat Sonnen at his own game!

Crazy night of fights last night! Eye gouges, a broken toe and a smashing of Sonnen by the one and only Jonny Jones! Happy that Bones won but wouldn't have minded it going to round two.

He came out more aggressive than usual. His demeanor seemed a bit different this time. I think he just wanted to get er' done.

That was a wicked fight all around. Dos Santos didn't seem in it and Velasquez was just too much for him. Although Junior has an incredible chin because I thought he would've went down from all the shots he took.

I like Belfort but why is he getting a shot at Jones? I understand Jones doesn't like Sonnen but it shouldn't have been his decision to turn down the fight. I am looking forward to Bisping and Stann locking up thought and hope it will remain standing. Also Benavidez and Johnson square off to be the 1st titleholder for their weight class.

Just read an article today about how they are changing the judging for MMA.
Here's a listing of the changes:
• Effective defense is no longer a criteria for scoring. This means that defending takedowns or blocking submissions and strikes don't count for anything. Under the new rules, the only advantage that defense brings to the table is that it keeps you from being finished by offense. The only way you can actually score points is through offense.
• Striking and grappling have been given equal weight. In the past, striking was always listed first as a scoring opportunity, thereby giving it more importance. That's not the case anymore. Striking and grappling are, from this point forward, to be viewed as equal offensive measures.
• Heavier strikes will be given more weight than number of strikes landed. They're now classifying damage as "effective damage," which means strikes that do more damaged will be weighed more heavily than an overall strike count. Of course, this is still a visual thing, as judges don't have access to in-fight statistics.
• Grappling moves that are scored heavily: Takedowns, reversals, submissions, transitions, activity and threatening moves from the fighter on the bottom and attempted submissions that lead to the threatened fighter being tired. In theory, this will put more weight on guys who play a great guard game and constantly threaten submissions off their back. Witness the Miguel Torres vs. Demetrious Johnson fight for example. Torres consistently threatened with submissions, and used plenty of sweeps and reversals from the bottom, but Johnson was awarded the fight because he was on top. This, to me, is one of the more significant rule changes.
• Effective aggression is now defined. Aggression in the cage is now defined as a fighter moving forward and using legal techniques. Attacking with submissions or strikes on the ground is included.
• Control is also defined. "Octagon control" means that a fighter is dictating the pace and position of the fight in the cage.

A couple of fights that went to a decision where shockers for me. I am almost certain that the judges don't know what to look for in a fight at times. I think it would be a whole lot better if the judges were people from the fight game.

I was so impressed with Sonnen the first time they fought. But your right, that strategy of a long grind is just too dangerous with Silva. I guess he was lucky to make it five rounds the first time, but realistically it could of happened anytime.
As we saw...
One of the prelims (my memory is....well...I dunno I forgot) was a complete shocker decision...

Great fight last night for Silva. We were rooting for Silva all the way and though Sonnen talked a good game he didn't back it up. His strategy failed him and he is now another name added to the list of fighters that have tried to take the belt from Silva. A few fights on the card though I had to disagree with the judges' decision on the winner.

I am taking a chance and saying Chael will beat Silva....if he has his game plan together. If he shows up like when he fought Bisping then Anderson will kill him. This has the potential to be the best event of the year! I hope it is.

I actually would like to see Chael win. Which is totally the opposite way I felt the first time they went at it.

UFC 147 may have been a hacked up card with all the injuries but it was pretty good. Congrats to Rich Franklin for his win over Wandy! That was a great fight!

If you like BJJ watch the Qualifying match from the 2012 BJJ world championships Open weight division. Arguably one of the most exciting in BJJ. Check out youtube search "Buchecha" Almeida vs Rodolfo Vieira 2012" This is really an amazing, on the edge of your seat fight.

I am looking forward to this card as well. Although I am shocked that Cung Le is fighting Rich Franklin. It seems that he is being taken lightly after losing to Vanderlei Silva in such a decisive fashion. I am hoping Cung Le gets in shape for this fight and looks a lot better than that one.

Not to change the subject, but what I'm really looking forward too is UFC 148.
What a stacked card.
Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen (oh man)
Dominick Cruz vs Urijah Faber
Forrest Griffin vs Tito Ortiz
Rich Franklin vs Cung Le
Michael Bisping vs Tim Boetsch
And others....

I would like to see Hedo pull this off. He has elite level wrestling skills and a huge right hand. That said, with his disadvantage in reach and lack of physical strength (compared to Jones) I think it is going to be a tough fight for him. He is going to need to come at Jones, get him backing up, and control where the fight goes. A tall order, but worth the price of admission to see if he can pull it off.

Whoa! Jones is fighting Henderson next? It would be impressive if he could actually submit or KO Hendo. That victory would be far more impressive than his pointfighting victory over Evans. It should be a great fight because Hendo isn't afraid to stand with anyone. GO JONES!

I watched it and was similarly disappointed in the main event. However it seems like most of the fights where Evans encounters someone with a strong wrestling background he seems to do more point fighting until he finds an opening. I noticed this same approach when he fought Rampage earlier which resulted in a boring fight as well. IMHO.

I enjoyed the rest of the card though.

I did get to see it. I was at a grappling tournament all day and stopped for dinner on the way home and they were showing the fights, so we stayed.

Rory McDonald looked great. The main event went about as expected. Not the most exciting fight, but two great fighters for sure. Rothwell looked hurt then threw and amazing punch.

An enjoyable evening of fights...

I have to agree that Mir has one of the best ground games in MMA today. If an opponent leaves a limb available for Mir to grab then the fight can be over just that quickly. I was hoping to see how Overeem did against a fighter that was in shape and truly prepared unlike Lesnar.

As far as I know, they have not officially announced what the new card is going to be. I have heard that it will be Mir (who I like BTW), but have not seen it confirmed yet. They may be holding off to see if Overeem asks for his 'B sample' to be tested. It will be interesting to see what happens.

So it is official that Mir is going to get another shot at the title? I am disappointed because it was a refreshing thought to see the new champion fight the newcomer to the UFC. However Overeem blew it. Junior better perfect his striking game because Mir shows that the ground is not wher Junior wants this fight to go.

Am I reading this correctly? Instead of Overeem getting the shot at Jr Dos Santos it is going to be Mir? I don't know whether to cheer or cry. I think that Dos Santos stands a better chance against Mir than Overeem. However I really wanted to see if he could retain his title.

It was just a matter when it would be detected with Overeem. He put on like 40 lbs of muscles in just 2 years when he was with Strikeforce. In my opinion, it just validates the accuracy of the testing in the UFC. Now, the question is who takes his place.

Finally Faber's team won one although not as impressive as Cruz's team. I have to admit I was wondering if Faber was actually coaching any of these guys. His morale is great but his guys don't seem as prepared when it comes fight time.

I am hearing that there is already controversy about the premiere. Anyone know what is going on? I watched it and thought it was pretty great with most of the victories either by submission or knock out. That fact made it a super start because I'd rather see wins that way then going to the judges for a decision.

I did spot one ringer though, Cristiano Marcello, was the BBJ coach at Chutebox in Brazil. He was the one that choked out Crazy Horse at that Pride event backstage in 2005. That guy is the real deal. Here is the video link, AWESOME!

Saw it and it was great overall. I like it when the matches end via submission or knockout and not the judges. Some of the fighters looked like they shouldn't been there but that was the purpose of the fights. Weed out the weak and keep the strongest performers.
