Same for me. It's been the only reason why I hung in here for so long. I wish you success. Remember: once you figure out what the issue is, it's easier to deal with. Since I figured out that I was eating too much grain everyday, it's been easier to deal with. Sure I still want bread every meal, and it's real hard to say no and stick to my guns, but today is a real success story for me and I kinda proud of myself. I even turned down popcorn, one of the hardest things for me to do because it smells so good. But I have a goal in mind and It's getting closer and I'm determined to reach out and take it and not let go.

Have a good one.

Amy - I'm going to stop participating on this team and let it die. It's been you and I for quite awhile and now I'm the only one participating. I know how busy you are and how life crowds in because I'm in the same boat, so I'm just going to let this team go.

You can find me on the QOTD team and Water Aerobics. I hope to see you on one of those, especially the QOTD team. It means Question of the Day and I ask a question you can answer if you like, but we a small team, with a few core people that participate often.

Join us if you wish.

Have a great one.

Ready to go to the pool and it's only 4 a.m. Hope the weather doesn't change as it looks like it's going to be a great one. The northerners are returning already. Feeling great and ready to go.

Just got through with the 5 articles we have to read in order to get 25 points. May give up points from now on. When you go to the bottom of the page and click on the next page or the GET YOUR POINTS button, an ad pops up, irritating me in the first place but when it gets stuck and won't give the points until the commercial is over and it's for Bridesmaids, which apparently is with one very large rolly=polly woman who is an exhibitionist to boot, it just gets raunchy and disgusting and I am extremely offended by it.

I have always gone along with SP putting on the commercials in order to keep the site free, but I am really wondering at this need to put on more and more ads. Four at the top, about 3 on each page and one on the left side and now we have to deal with the popup commercial on the bottom of most if not all of the articles and even popups when looking at the recipes. If I quit SP, it will be because of those obnoxious and irritating ads. I don't need a near naked anyone dancing all over my screen. What if I had grandchildren right here? it just isn't needed, required, or wanted at any level and I'm pretty hot about it.

Guess, I tell someone in SP that might be able to do something about it.

I also notice Chef_Meg has been missing lately. Another interesting aspect of our favorite website that seems to have gone off the deep end.

Okay, I'm done ranting. have a great one.

Washed the back side of the house today. It was green! It is green, Green paint, bu this was green algae. I need to see if I can find something I can spray on it that will kill the algae longer.

I'm pooped. But we got that side of the house washed, the rest is alright, except the carport and I can wash it by myself as I have time.

Doing more stuff with peaches today. Tonight we are having yesterday's recipe of the day, Pork Chops & Peaches.

Last night we did the recipe of the day for Saturday, Salsa Chicken. I make our own salsa. We use Robert Irving's (Chef on Food Network) Salsa recipe. We made some yesterday and it was so fresh and great tasting. Anyway, the chicken came out so good. It was for four breasts, but I only had 3 in my freezer packet that I thawed so I only made three. It was so good. And when you think about the fact that you know exactly what is in it, and you can just track it so easily cuz you have the recipes or various ingredients in your tracking system, it just makes it better all the way around.

I had to tweak the recipe I had put in my recipe box so the tracker comes out right. We put one jalapeno pepper in our salsa, and Robert Irvin's recipe doesn't have any. It made it a tiny hotter, but so good.

Anyway, all really low cal and really low carb. I couldn't get over 100 carbs yesterday no matter what I did.

Having stomach problems this morning. Haven't been able to function for two days at least, I think it might be 3 days. Absolutely no urge yet and it's scaring me. If the coffee doesn't get it going in a bit, I'm sending the DH after something. Don't have any ill feelings, just a little bla and gaining weight which has to be that fact as I'm not eating anything that would put tonnage back on.

Hope you have a great day!

Doing stuff with peaches today. Bob bought $12.00 worth of peaches from the local produce stand she gave him a basket. Kinda farm style cutsey - unfortunately, I'm ridding our lives of all the stuff we have collected over the lifetime.

Super job on the exercise, and the grocery shopping and produce run. You're doing GREAT!

I sort of fell off the wagon for a day and I'm paying for it today. Bread! I got a real low BSL 69 and I felt so shaky and weak and all I wanted was carbs, quick. I practically stuffed a loaf of bread down my throat. I didn't care at the time, but I knew I would care later. I do.

Only thing to do is get back up, dust myself off, look at what I did to cause the carb fest and learn how to not do it again. I think I have it figured out now so have already made my plans on how to combat the BSL crashes. A little scary from in here, too.

Live and learn. So keep up with the super great work! emoticon emoticon emoticon

WOW! You are doing awesome!

It's much cooler and no humidity today so I went running. I ran about 3.3miles. It felt really good. Now I must get some housework done. Did my grocery shopping after my run so that's done. Now I need to run to the farmer's market this afternoon and pick up some produce. I am craving some crispy apples.

Have a good evening!

Already got my time at the pool. It's cooler here, like in the mid 80s and the water is a little chillier, but still warm enough to jump around in. I always think the cooler water gets you jumping a lot earlier.

I did another day of 60 minutes non-stop walking and 45 of water aerobics.

Seems to be the normal for me now, which is good, except to extend it means two hours of hopping around.

Have a great one!

I agree with you about canning. You know what's in it and it is rewarding to have a pantry full of food you processed. Makes you feel somewhat self sufficient. I would like to do some red pepper jelly. It always good on crackers with cream cheese, and with the holidays coming it will come in handy.

I am sorry to hear about your training. I think you could probably find a physician's office or dental office that needs help. You never know what you may luck into.

We have had a heat wave here. 98 degrees Tuesday and 94 yesterday. Today is rainy and in the 70's. Tomorrow is supposed to cool down to the 50's...ugh..

Working this evening so time to eat some lunch. Have a great day!

We used to have a pear tree in our back yard. It had been neglected for decades, so we pruned it, knowing nothing of pear trees, but we really didn't care one way or the other, although we were not out to kill it. The thing grew more fruit, lusher fruit after than before. We canned pears, gave pears away, had some stolen by a neighbor that I scared her socks off, but she knew what she was doing.

I think I canned more stuff in 1999 just before the millennium scare not because of that, but the crops were so productive and cheap that year that we were canning like crazy. We ate on it for quite awhile so I know that if even a portion of those predicted things came true, which none did, we would have made it through on the food anyway.

But it is so rewarding to eat it later and know you canned it and it is so good. Besides, you know whats in it. I've got Bob convinced that canning is something we are going to do in the future, too.

Well, I'm on the hunt for a new company to do data entry for. The one I am still interning with has convinced me that they are not going to pass me and were "rigging" it all against me from the moment they realized they "hired" a person without 5 years medical experience. Talk about irritating for me. I don't consider it wasted. I am looking for another company that hopefully will not be like that. But when they bold face lie to you, you know to read between the lines and they stink.

Anyway, I'm looking so things are little on hold for me and my husband is not helping by his constant little remarks about having to find something by the 1st of January. That doesn't help at all. I am looking at anyplace that has a doctor (even vets) or rehab centers, anything. If I can get it done from home, even better.

Have a great one!

Sounds like you got yourself super organized for the week. We had a busy weekend too. Friday night my husband and I picked at least a bushel and a half of peaches from his parents trees. We took a bushel home with us and canned them on Sunday. Saturday we spent the day with our friends at their cottage. We took a peach pie with us. This canning thing is getting out of control. This summer was a great year here. A friend of my husband's asked him to come out and pick some pears. I see more work in my future.

Have a great day!

Amy - thanks for the encouragement. I do wonder why I even thought I could do this, but when they accepted me without any experience in the medical industry, I figured they knew how to train me. Now I am not so sure, but I have learned so much, it is so very interesting, I really like it when I am into the research part of it, and I've come so far, so I just don't want to give up. However, it's pretty hard to be an intern forever and that's what I feel like is happening. It get's very frustrating and you are not the first to say that doctors have mush mouths. I know it is only because they make their lives so busy trying to make the money they feel they should command that when they get to the dictation they take shortcuts. I was working with one doctor's dictation for several months. He would eat while dictating. You could hear him swallowing and chewing and it was disgusting to me because I was always trained to not talk while eating or with your mouth full.

Another was a PA that would sit at a desk, probably the doctor's, and dictate with a voice drama that drove me nuts. I tried to like her, figured she was doing her job to the best she could but she was dramatic, and someone would come in to put something on the desk and she would start talking to them, so it was all twisted into the dictation. Instead of going back to find the place where she was off dictating but left the machine running, she would just keep going and you were often times not sure where the conversation ended and the dictation started again.

Yet I can understand a lot of the multitasking while dictating. They are trying to catch up and keep going because they have 8 or 10 or more patients to see still. My doctor used to book them in every 10 minutes. That's way too many. We would sit out front and when the room got full, the receptionist would disappear for a few minutes, the line at her desk would grow out the door. She would come back, have to rush to get the people through the line, and suddenly the nurses would start coming out and calling people. When it was you being called you discovered they were clearing the front waiting room into the back waiting rooms. You still waited for over an hour total time. I pitched a fit with the doctor about it and I know others were, too. He is still apologizing for being late to me and I know he apologizes to others, but even after making policy to book patients in every 30 minutes, he's still backed up and they aren't doing it every 30 minutes, they are doing it every 15 minutes. 32 patients a day is nuts. There's not time to dictate for the record, they don't have the time to back it up and fix their blunders and they are human, they make mistakes.

They also have an attitude, perpetuated by the transcription industry of, "I don't care what it sounds like or what the transcriptionist hears. It's their job to figure it out and as long as they get it right, fine. Don't bother me!" Unfortunately, someone has to go back to the doctor and ask them what they actually said in a particular spot, which means they have to get the patient file and try to figure out what they scrambled. That's wasted time for them. They aren't making a penny on researching past work. But it has to be right, it has to be done, and it has to be quick. I just think they should have to be trained in how to dictate, at least the basics.

So enough with my rant. I will get the test back with all the corrections and information, but I am also going to ask if I can go back to English as a first language doctors.

Have a great one.

Tomato Butter is really just jam. It turned out pretty good. I had it on an English Muffin with some peanut butter and it was good.

Sorry to hear about your test. Hopefully you will get a comprehensive report so you know where you missed. Don't let it upset you. Transcription is tough. When I worked for the ENT's the transcriptionists would often ask me to listen because they couldn't make out a word. Sometimes you just can't. Other times you can figure things out very easily. It's not a super easy job.

Your day at the beach sounded perfect.

Not sure I would appreciate tomato butter, but it sounds interesting enough to taste it and I am pretty sure my husband would like it. He pretty much likes all things tomato!

I took the test, Know I did not pass it as it would have taken me a week to untangle some of the words she mutilated, scrambled, and twisted up. But I will at least get the results back and who knows, I may have done better than I think - but not passing. I had a lot of clicking, pops, and squeals through the tape, too. I am supposed to type in garbled in bold where I can't hear anything because of the noise. I don't know if they count it as an error - I would not - it's not the transcriber's fault the transmission came with extra crap. And I figure if it were work that you get paid for, you'd have to go back to someone to get the answers to that part anyway.

Have to wait for the answer though.

So today was more relaxing for me. Bob had no appts to go work on today and we went to the beach for a few hours. I wrote storyline in a notebook with a pen while he fed fish with shrimp. He caught a little perch and threw it back. Looked like a cute saucer. I also fed a kajillion ants a french fry. We stopped at McDs for lunch on the way out and I got a quarter pounder with bacon and cheese. It was done very well and I got it on the dry side without all the stuff they usually put on them. It was a change from the hard work I've been putting in and it felt good. I'll pay for it tomorrow on the scale, but for today, it was a nice treat - so I'll look at it that way.

Have a great one and hope your Tomato Butter came out super great!

PCRM=Physician's Council for Responsible Medicine. It's a good website, lots of good information. Each month they have the kick-start. Look it up.

I would be frustrated too with what you are telling me. Hopefully you will feel confident enough to take your test soon. Unfortunately doctors are mush mouths-Americans being the worse sometimes. I'm sure your practicing will be of benefit. You can always rant to me and I will listen:)

I am making tomato butter with my mom today. It's more like a jam. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Have a great day!!

Great plan. I don't know what PCRM 21-kickstart is. Is that on SparkPeople? It sounds good cuz I eat lots of fruit and veggies. My stomach has never been real happy on fruits and veggies as I always have so much gas from them, but my mouth likes them, and actually, I think all of me except my stomach likes them.

Off to the pool now. Then I attempt to finish this awful test I am stuck with. It is so full of noises that I can't hear what she is saying and I know they save the absolute worst dictation for tests. I am sure they are looking for people that just won't give up. I've been trying to do this for 5 years and just got done with the last education they gave me which helped a great deal, but then they turned around and gave me English as a second language. I don't know if they will give me back to an English speaking doctor. This Spanish doctor is really hard to understand and I can't sit here forever practicing on the easy ones to be down the tube on every test due to lack of help, education, and attitudes. I am so frustrated with it and I have no place to go with it so I just keep working on it.

Sorry to dump a rant here, but I am frustrated and the DH does not help.

I is very disappointing to go into thinking you can do it because you can see how far you have come only to be cut down by garbage that should never have been accepted. I don't know how doctors think they can work putting out garbage for dictation and then be able to survive a legal battle. I know, without a doubt, that if this one particular dictation is ever challenged in a legal situation, she won't be able to get herself out of it because a great many of her words are so mispronounced and garbled together that even she won't be able to figure out what she said or what she meant. I have also found where the transcriptionist has mistranscribed and no one caught the error so it's in someone's medical file somewhere. I don't understand giving someone a pile of practice files that are wrong and then expect them to be good at what they do on a daily basis. This is what I am dealing with.

When I ask a question, I am told, just follow the key. Funny, that won't work when it comes to the test because it's wrong.

Okay - I'm done. Have a great one.

I did work all weekend, it was my holiday to work. It went quickly as it was very busy for a holiday weekend. Off today and need to do some housecleaning and laundry. I will be doing some cooking too.

I too have a challenge. I started PCRM 21-kickstart. It is a vegan kickstart. I have to start eating more healthily. I have been letting too much junk back in to my diet. This is a chance to refocus on eating a whole-foods, plant-based diet. I am hoping to shed 10 pounds and then keep on till I reach my 30 pound goal. I turn 50 in January and I need to have my weight and eating in check. It's more about health now. I could look and feel much better than I do.

It's raining here so it is a good day to get lots of things accomplished. I also plan on getting a workout in too. My husband has decided it is time for him to lose some weight and change some bad habits so we are walking after dinner as many days a week as possible.

Have a great day!

Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend and didn't have to work all of it.

We had a nice restful one here. We stayed home, the beaches were packed and we don't enjoy them when you have to fight to get to them and then fight to find a place to park, to sit, to walk, to do anything, especially use the latrines, and then fight to get back home. We went to the pool and were nearly alone. It was nice, too.

Lots of thunder and pushy clouds, but no rain. We stuck to our menu and I was pretty proud of myself. I've got a new personal challenge going, no grain products (bread, pasta, rice, or anything with grain except for 1 portion a day. I blew it when I ate 3 graham crackers yesterday without thinking. Bob put them beside me - he's not trained yet - and I saw them and ate them then remembered my challenge. I kicked myself several times to no avail and then just accepted my lack of thought! Will it ever change?!

However, through it all, I lost the 6ounces I had gained and so I am really sure my challenge is working for me. I was within all my limits except fat and I can't see to change that setting, no matter what I do. Sometimes that tracker just does not make sense.

So, have a great week ahead! emoticon

I used to make a granola from Ball Jar Canning Book, but since I gave the book away, I have not been able to find that recipe and I've kicked myself several times for not having written it down first. I did checkout their site and didn't find it, but going to try again.

I did pool walking today for a whole hour without stopping and no pain so feeling great about it all and went down a pound from yesterday's 45 minute walk (got chased out of the pool by a T-Storm) but not today.

Hope you are having a great weekend.

Ball Jar Site had a canning book out that I loved. When I moved to Florida the DH said, "We'll never can again so get rid of the canning stuff. I did then I kicked myself every canning season for the last 10 years. Never say "Never" again!

The ketchup sounds great. Made me want some. Girl, sounds like you got a lot of tomatoes. We can't get them to grow here. Don't know why as our neighbors get them to grow. My DH has tried to grow them straight in the ground and in the earth boxes and they grow up giving us hope then croak. Right now he's trying spaghetti squash for me. If it grows I'll bug him for hubbard next year. Love that Hubbard.

We got a few tiny string beans this year. About enough for a meal. They were not very fat and my DH fixed them for dinner and didn't string them and I can't stand eating them with the strings! He really didn't know how to do it or that you had to string them.

Well, I'm going to look at a few blogs for this team and see if some of my replies can garner a little more participation on this team. It just feels so dead as no huddles and no one, other than you and I participate. Not sure if I can change that but I can only try.

Have a great one!

I wish you luck on your test. I'm sure when you feel ready you will do fine and pass with flying colors. It's important to feel confident before you take your test.

You sound like you are back to yourself and exercising up a storm. I need to get back in gear, my vacation threw me off. I picked a bushel of tomatoes and made a batch of ketchup and some stewed tomatoes yesterday. I still have a half to go so I plan on making some salsa today. Then I think I may be done for a bit although I would like to make some dilly beans and probably could do another half bushel of tomatoes. I guess I will see how I feel next week. The ketchup turned out very good. It's pretty spicy and tasted yummy on my egg sandwich this am. I took the recipe right off the Ball Jar site.

Well I had better get moving on these tomatoes. Have a great Friday.

So trying to make my jitters go away by continuing to listen and practice. I basically have the written part, it's hearing what she is saying. Sometimes she says it so mashed and even after looking at the key I wonder how they got what they got from her dictation and sometimes I discover that the transcriptionist got it wrong when I finally hear it. Apparently no one really checks these although they claim they do from the get go.

But for now, I am subject to being checked very closely so they can pass me on the test or not. I am fairly sure I will pass, but its a case of nerves - which testing never helped.

So I've been doing my exercises and yesterday I did 45 minute sin the pool walking and jogging for about 10 minutes of the 45 without stopping at all. Made me feel pretty good and I know I'm back to normal or what I was before in the exercise department. But if I'm going to keep eating as I am right now, I'll have to do more.

My blood sugar levels lately have been low. Yesterday I tested at 74 before my morning snack. I was shaking - it was too low and it wasn't the first day it was so low. I don't like it that low. It's nice in the sense of being low, but when I feel weak and shaky and dizzy, it's too low.

That was after breakfast and exercise.

Anyway, off to go find something for breakfast. Have a great one.

If I take the test and make over 3 error, I fail and I can't take it again until I go through 80 more practice files. I get no money until I pass three tests with less than 3 errors. I'm still trying to pass the 1st test. I have made no money yet and the budget is getting dryer and dryer.

Besides, I'm getting tired of not having Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays or anything else because we have no money for it and it bugs the crap out of me that my DH books us into trips we can't afford and then expects me to enjoy it and complains about no money afterward. Yes - one of those things.

I refuse to become a harpie on this stuff, but it really hacks me off when he asks, when are you going to test again?

Anyway, on the lighter side - I went to the pool this morning, did 45 minutes of constant walking and about 10 minutes of jogging in the middle of it. Felt really good, too.

Have a great one!

We were buying our lobster from a local lobsterman. He lives a few minutes away from my sister and steams them for you if you want. We had him steam them and we cooked the sides at home and ate there. Much cheaper and more delicious I'm sure.

CT will be nice in October. I'm sure you will find some reasonable lobster. I guess they are very plentiful this year.

If you take your test and don't pass are you able to re-take? Do they tell you what you missed? Sometimes it's best to take the plunge and do it. I bet you are very prepared and will do fine. I took a certification test a few yrs ago and was afraid I wouldn't pass. I just bit the bullet and took it and passed. Sometimes we just psych ourselves out. Good luck.

Off to get some groceries,

Glad you had a great trip to Maine. Lobster sounds great!

We're going to CT in early October, but while I want to go on up to ME, we won't be able to this year. Maybe I can find a cheap lobster joint in CT.

I am so ready to take my next test on Medical Transcription but I am so scared,, I can't push the button to take the test. It's kind of strange too because I feel more confident in what I'm doing, but I'm more nervous than before. I feel like my stress is up to about a 9 today while its been about 2 for a couple of weeks now.

I don't understand why I feel like I can pass the thing, and yet I am afraid to go at it. Something is holding me back and I don't know what it is. Guess I'll work on that today.

Back from Maine. We had a lovely time. The weather was perfect. Lots of beach, lobster, and fun. Off today so we can put everything away and do laundry. Back to work tomorrow but it's ok after a nice break.

Time to work on portion sizes again. I am motivated to start losing again. It seems portions have been getting bigger so I will be working on that.

We are having a gray rainy day today so it's a good day to get some work done.

Have a great day!

Getting working correctly can be almost impossible, but I am succeeding in a few things I am working on. Not the yoyoing, though. However, I'm not giving up - I'll still work on it every day.

One thing that I am working on and seeming to get somewhere with is positivity and happiness. One seems to breed the other. anyway, I'm enjoying a lot of things right now.

Hope you are too.

Right now we are using our oven for a dehydrator. It works pretty good. I'm going to try the toaster oven instead so less space is heated and I can take it out on the patio so the heat stays outside, too.

Anyway, it works pretty good - maybe we won't spend the money on a new dehydrator.

Glad you got some tomatoes canned. I think the chicken soup sounds great, too. Gave me an idea there.

Your jam sounds really interesting. I love jams on pork and chicken. One yr my in-laws had a bumper yr of peaches and I did a ton of peach jam. I did some with jalapenos which was very good. I got 4 quarts of tomatoes yesterday. My hubby picked more last evening so I will do more tomorrow. I need to get more lids.

I love vegetable soup with okra. In fact I love Campbell's Chicken Gumbo soup. It's tasty and low in calories. That would be a good soup to make now.

My mother and I made a tomato jam a few yrs ago which was very tasty. It was great for breakfast on English muffins with egg. It was a lot of work for little product. I would love to make it again though.

I agree with you, after canning you get a good feeling of accomplishment. I always hate to see things go to waste. Sometimes gardens can go crazy and you can't keep up all the produce. I feel so much better being able to can or freeze. I actually bought my husband a dehydrator 2 yrs ago for Christmas. I would like to use it more to do some veggies. That may be my next project.

Well better get moving here, have a great day!

I usually make jams, too. I'll make jam out of any fruit that catches my fancy. One year I made green jelly from something and added Creme D'Minth to make it a darker green. I gave it to my Dad so he could have it when he ate pork as he loved it like that. it was pretty good and it was so colorful for a Christmas present, which he loved.

I made ketchup one year, with my Mom when we were doing Weight Watchers. i got the recipe so we tried it. It was a good tasting recipe. We only got 2 bottles of ketchup from it and I'm a ketchup lover. Problem we had was that we had to do so much work for it, it was expensive, and it sort of spoiled it when we only gleaned 2 bottles from it. Buying was cheaper and not that much different when you compared nutrition labels so I never made it again.

However, canning veggie soup sounds wonderful. I'll have to discuss it with the man who likes to do the canning more than I. We can get okra here. I am not an okra lover unless it's sliced on the thick side and dumped in soup. Haven't ever done soup, but love it Campbell's veggie soup.

I like to can. It's so rewarding to know you made it and know what's in it - or what isn't in it. Like cleaning your kitchen spotless and that feeling you get afterward of a job well done. All sparkly clean and healthy. Wish it would stay that way, but then we wouldn't get that feeling after cleaning it, cuz we wouldn't have to clean it.

Okay, I'm wandering. Have a great one!

I usually do stewed tomatoes also and I plan on doing some of those. I just wanted to use up what is ripe by doing the plain ones today. I only have a few hrs and figured that would be easier than cutting all the oions, peppers, celery, etc. I love having the tomatoes after they are canned. It seems we go through them pretty quick. I did a bushel last yr and it seemed they were gone by January. This yr I will do more. They do make a difference in what you are making. I have a friend that cans vegetable soup and spaghetti sauce. I thought both would be nice. I would like to make ketchup this yr too. I have always made jam out of strawberries and peaches but havn't this yr.

That is really funny about Y2k. All that hubbub. My kids were young the and I let them stay up till after midnight as my husband had to go in to work that night. When nothing "happened" it was all for naught. I never bought into it all either but at the last minute some people started to scare me but at that point it would have been too late. Oh well...

Milling your own grains sounds pretty cool. Did you grow them as well? I usually buy some organic flours and have them on hand like spelt and rye. I like making bread every once in a while. I used to make bread all the time yrs ago when I was thinner and following a more whole foods/vegan diet. I always loved sourdough the best.

Have a great day, better get moving. I have to work this afternoon.

Have a great day.

The tomatoes with sea salt and fresh basil sound good. We always made "stewed tomatoes" back home every year. We'd do about 30 quarts for a year and we'd be out by the time it was the season again.

We would use minced garlic cloves, green bell peppers, celery, and onions along with the tomatoes and we did it outside. We'd do it like an assembly line. Bob would always do the tomato blanching to get the skins off, and I'd be chopping onions and putting it all in the biggest pot I could find along with the green bell peppers and celery. Garlic would go in last and then it would get all mixed together and spooned into the jars with a tomato juice from the pot, that was hot. I'd put on the lids and rings and then they went into the hot water bath. I never had problems with them leaking or not sealing. We used them for all kinds of things, soups, spaghetti, stews, you name it - if it needed tomatoes, our own tomatoes were the star.

Haven't done it down here in Florida since we moved down as I gave away all my stuff. This year, we'll be doing tomatoes again. We miss them so much and we don't have to travel across state to get them either.

In WA we would go to eastern WA and go from farm to farm collecting fresh tomatoes, green bell peppers, onions, celery, then take it all home and can it. We'd go back again later and get a huge crate of "applesauce" mixed apples that this one farm did. That applesauce was excellent! We'd get peaches and can those; pears grew on our tree in the back yard so those got canned, Sometimes we would get apricots, string beans, carrots, beets, anything that looked interesting and fun went into our canning.

When 2000 was looming and all the doomsayers were predicting huge failures in money, food, etc. my girlfriend and I used it as an excuse to get busy and can like crazy. We even did squash. We didn't believe the doomsayers, but it was a great excuse to be ready with our canning.

I hope your tomatoes come out great. It makes you feel good about growing a garden because you can harvest it and you don't have to worry about wasting it.

My girlfriend got me into milling grains - she had a little mill and she made her own flour from spelt and whole wheat. Now I just buy small bags of various flours at the store as I don't have the mill and I'm not going to buy one.

We are going to buy a dehydrator, but I need $150.00 for the one I want. It's so much fun and you know what your eating. Sure it's processed, but it's healthy processed cuz its home processed.

Have a great one!

Here's the site that I used from Better Homes and Gardens. Sorry the link is weird but my mouse is not working and I am relying on the touch mouse which is terrible. Anyways this is the site I used and the recipe is the very first one. I had bad luck with pickles too in the past but I have tried a few times before I have had success.

There are lots of other recipes to try as well. I need to can some tomatoes, my tomato plants are spitting out tomatoes left and right. So I am going to try cooking up a batch of tomatoes today. Probably just tomatoes, sea salt, and fresh basil.

Have a great day.

Great job on the pickles. My mom used to can dills and sweets every year. We always had a cupboard full of pickles and always an open one in the fridge for a cold one after school. I loved them. I made some one year and they tasted like gasoline, the lids did not seal properly and since they tasted so bad I threw them all out, cleaned the jars and stored them until I found something else to put in them. I never tried making pickles again.

Now I can find some I like in the grocery store and I figure, why should I go to all the expense and work of making the things just to throw them away so I buy mine already made.

Have a great one!

Made my pickles, they need to sit for a week but I have some extra in the fridge that I didn't put in a jar and they taste pretty good.

Have a good one.

Sounds like you are doing well. I am off today and think I may can some pickles. I need to get to the farmer's market and pick up some cukes. The weather here is downright cold, a good day for a project inside.

Happy Wednesday!

Still hanging in there. Feeling great and doing well. Can always do better, but I don't want to kill myself trying so I'll just keep going along as I am cuz the wheel don't need fixing yet.

New day, still tired from yesterday, but going to the pool shortly. Another humid hot day here. You can sweat all your water out just standing out there and breathing.

Glad you got some you time and enjoyed it. I haven't been to a Crate and Barrel, but it's on my bucket list. I saw an add for it one time and cruised their website. Looked like a great place. Haven't found one around here, but will probably look again some day.

I am doing well. I have been losing a couple of tenths of a pound each day for the last two days so can you imagine what I would be doing with the food I am eating and being able to go whole hog on the exercises? I hate having to do baby steps again, but no choice so will not complain just make statements. I'll be fine and I am losing so not complaining.

Tonight, had some popcorn for a snack. Now I'm feeling like I had too much something wrong. Pain around middle, like where the diaphragm is. Has to be gas. Will I ever learn? Yes, but slowly, just like my exercise plan. Oof!

Time for bed. Have a great one tomorrow and a happy night tonight.

Sounds like you are doing well with your eating plan. I wish I could lose. I am stuck where I am at. I will keep trying though. I think your pacing your activity is a good idea too. You know how you feel. By pacing yourself you aren't overdoing anything. Great idea.

Our trip to Cleveland was fun. We went to a fabric store as my friend is having her couch and loveseat re-appolstered. We saw some beautiful fabrics and came home with some samples to see how they looked in her room. We also got to look around in a few stores, one of my favorites which is Crate and Barrel. We both bought a cool little gizmo that cuts the corn off the cobb by running it down the side. I also bought some new glasses as we are down to just a few. We finished the day by going to Trader Joe's and stocked up on some things. We don't have a Trader Joe's but we do have a very nice grocery store here but nothing beats Trader Joe's.

I can't believe it's August 10th already. Where did summer go? We are planning a trip in about 10 days to see my sister and her family in Maine. It will be a long weekend but it will lots of fun. The kids start school the next Monday after we leave. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Got lots done this week on my days off. I was able to clean the carpet in my dining room and had my oven fixed. I am so glad I didn't need to buy a new one. I have to work this evening but I can't complain as I have had some nice days off.

Have a great Saturday!

I agree on the Heaven aspect. I've been having fruit and fresh salsa for snacks lately. Doing real well. Even if I OD on bread, occasionally, I'm burning enough to maintain or lose a couple of tenths. That makes me happy cuz I feel like I can eat a little whacky and still lose some weight. On the days that I really stick to it, I feel better and keep pushing that feeling in front of my nose so it spurs me onto losing more faster. Trying to lose about 2 pounds a week. Doctor says 2 pounds a month is great. My mind says, too slow! We'll see where I end up. Of course strenght training will trip it up too as muscle weighs more than fat and if you lose a pound of fat but build up your muscles my a pound you aren't losing - just fat.

I am still not following my own plan on the exercise tho. Yesterday I walked too fast at Walmart and had belly muscle aches all afternoon - strong ones. I was nearly to tears at Walmart. Makes me upset with myself - but only one thing to do, ice it, which is a very cold ordeal, and take Tylenol. Did that and it still took hours to settle down and be comfortable again.

My biggest sweat over it is a hernia - don't want that. My scars look like cat scratches, except the belly button one which is a weird looking thing but it'll look like a bruise for years, I think.

Other than that, I'm doing great. Don't allow myself to sit more than 1 hour at a time, have something planned every hour on the hour, which forces me out of the chair. I've gotten used to it it, I just say I can't sit still. I cleaned my office for 10 minutes every hour the day before yesterday. Seems like a strange idea, but my office got dusted and vacuumed and looks good again and I feel great about it.

Sometimes I do a load of wash or make the bed and kp for 10 minutes. Doesn't matter what it is as long as it's on my feet and active.

We don't have much of a garden. We have wild rabbits that come by and eat anything we have planted out there. So anything we want for ourselves has to be screened in and over so the rabbits (cute as they are) can't get to them. I have some fennel they don't care about but a huge black butterfly was flittering around them yesterday, too. I was trying to get him to land on me, but he didn't want me, just the fennel.

Gotta go. Have a great day! Hope your Cleveland trips was super.

It certainly sounds like you have officially healed. It's amazing to think that all those muscles, fibers have to come back together after being cut. No wonder you were having all those weird feelings in your belly. You sound like you are being wise about how you are increasing your activity. Having a hernia repair doesn't look like fun. I have taken care of plenty, they all seem to have a lot of pain that first night.

It's a gorgeous morning today. It is going to be a bit warmer than it's been, guess I better turn the ac back on.

I have been incorporating a ton of fresh fruit and veg in my meals this past week. I feel lighter. We are starting to get tomatoes now so I have made some fresh salsa. I love this time of year for so many reasons. To me this would be heaven if it would stay this way for 365 days.

Have a great day!

The trip sounds great. Hope you have a fun day. Nice way to unwind and destress!

I got done what I needed to get done and the rest just had to wait all night as I was too tire to give a hoot about it!

I am feeling much better today - yesterday I was feeling like something was haywire, but today, I am officially done healing = according to the surgeon who said 41 days to completion. This is it!

At least I don't have those feelings I had where it felt like I had a giant worm inside that was moving around, or like one muscle was sliding over the top of another muscle. think everything has finished lashing itself in place and life is going on.

I have been going to the pool everyday and doing my 10 minutes of walking slowly. Today will be another day of that, then I will up it by 5-10 minutes with a rest after the first 10. I think my body is used to that routine now and will expect it. But I am feeling it's time to kick it up a notch so another 5-10 minutes after the rest and we'll stick to that for awhile. When I make it all the way to 30 minutes again, I'll kick out a rest and see how it goes.

Would like to get back to water aerobics, but will wait until I feel like I can stand to jump and do all the moves without popping something out of place. i don't want a hernia so I am taking the long way around to the end results.

Enjoy your day!

That was really interesting that the hospital contacted you and apologized. I have never heard of that happening. Usually they wait until a complaint was made and then apologize. I also very much appreciated your kind words about nurses and healthcare workers. Sometimes it seems like patients are indifferent with nurses when in fact we are the patient's advocate. Most of us are nurses because we care and want to make a difference. It's nice when someone recognizes that. So thank you...

Did another 12 hr shift yesterday. Working an 8hr eve tonite then I am off for a few days. My friend asked me to go to Cleveland with her tomorrow for a little day trip. She is hoping to order a piece of furniture that she saw a few weeks ago so I am going along for the ride. We will probably have a nice lunch somewhere and stop at Trader Joe's before we come home. It's about a 1hr and 20 minute drive and it goes quick when you get two gabby gals together.

Hope you got your work done last eve. Have a great day.

Today is a crappy day for me - pain in the head and the rest of me feels like I have the flu, which I do not, but it feels that way.

Think I am going to go back to bed. Tried the busy doing things to rid myself of it already this morning, but it did not work.

Anyway, I hope you have a spectacular day today!

Oof! 12 hours! Long shift! Hope it goes easy for you!

The first thing I wanted when I knew I could eat something was bread. They told me I could have a roll. I ate two of them. Not sure why, but kept thinking that I would feel less iky in the belly if I could eat some bread. I didn't think I would get it, but the guy from the kitchen brought me two rolls. I was on low fat and he brought me 1 pat of butter. I didn't use it but ate my two rolls with nothing. I also got 3 slices of roasted turkey with a little gravy on top, I scraped off as much gravy as I could and ate the turkey, I had some green beans that I ate and there was some jello or something I didn't eat.

The next day I was back to liquids as something wasn't right, the third day I wasn't eating anything as I had a stone clogging up the pancreas and we were working (they were) on getting it past the spot it was in cuz I was having pancreatitis that day. I remember feeling like I didn't care about anything. Then on the fourth day - felt much better.

I guess I had three or four doctors pretty scared. I had pancreatitis for 1 day and was lucky I did not die. I was told that if the pancreas can't function, it's the same as not having one - you die. Had no idea. Still was never scared, just didn't like some of the stuff that happened because it wasn't pleasant, but had to be done, so just lived with it, until the end when I was so bruised and swollen from blood suckers constantly stabbing me with 20 gage needles.

I got a call and a letter from the General Manger of the Hospital and the Supervising Manager of the Phlebotomy department. They were both upset that I had the experience I had and asked me questions about who did what, etc. I told them what I knew, which I didn't think was enough to do anything, but they seemed to know who it was and said they were going to discuss the issues with him and make sure he was trained properly so nobody else would have to deal with what I did. They apologized profusely for the pain I went through.

Wish they would have cut a chunk of the bill off, but no offer of that - different departments at any rate. Anyway it was nice to hear their concerns even if nothing happens. I had the best room and loved the nurses. They worked so hard. Even the lady who kept my bathroom and room clean was a super lady and the guys that brought my food trays were great. They wanted to know if I could name an employee for employee of the month and I told them I had one from every department. Some I didn't know their name, but they were nominated from me. I felt horrible if I made a mess and remember apologizing to the nurse for having to do something I thought was gross. She just laughed and did her job. Some of the crap you all have to do to get us well enough to go home. Yuk! But thank you.

I lost all the weight I regained, which was 6 pounds. Now I have to go on. Seems like I'm yoyoing right here, but I will get it down. I don't mind reading labels to get no or low fat meals, but sometimes it's hard to look at something that has a lot more fat in it and stick to what I know is right. It's the little-girl personality and I am really sick of her. Working on getting past her. Want to leave her in the past and never see her again.

I know I can do this and I'm going to do it!

Have a great day tomorrow, too!

Thanks!

I think bread is easy on the stomach. I know when I am not feeling well I tend to eat toast/bread as it is easy to digest. It seems carbs are more desirable.

Working a 12hr shift today. Off I go, have a great day!

The fact that you lost inches, is the exact same thing as losing weight! Great job!

I think your plan on going to Y is great, too. As long as it isn't uphill both ways! (My mom used to tell us that she had to walk 3 miles to school everyday and it was up hill both ways and her stepfather would drive right past her in both directions and not stop to give her a ride! Okay, what part is true?

I think you will figure out your "hangup" soon. I am doing better with my meal planning, too. I did it all the way for everyday, except next Saturday I still haven't figured out lunch! I have my snacks planned and all my meals.

Today I ate too much bread so I'll probably gain. Why do I do this? Rats! Well! Nothing to do but go forward and work on staying away from the bread. Today was willy nilly on the meals = no planning whatsoever. But I met some great people today and helped my DH in the process.

Have a great one! Enjoy the weather, too!

Congrats on the weight loss! A loss is a loss! Keep up the good work. I have been stuck where I am for weeks. I added strength training last week. No change in the scale. I measured myself again yesterday and I have lost some inches so that is somewhat motivating.

The weather is beautiful this morning and supposed to be warmer today. So it should be a perfect day. Planning on walking to the Y and doing some strength training and walking back. It's a 2mile trek to and from, down hill and then up.

Have to do some meal planning, obviously I need to change something up to get some results. It's a bit frustrating but I am trying to stay on track.

Have a great day!

Feeling great today. Down 2 ounces from yesterday so doing something right! WooHoo!

I've done no exercise for the last two days as I've been letting my stomach muscles relax - totally for the last two days. Needed to slow down a bit - so close to being done with this, but have a couple more days to go according to the surgeon.

Today, I may go to the pool but I want to stay away from the water aerobics as I know I'll just get into it and hurt myself.

If the weather is good this afternoon, when the DH returns, we'll go and paddle around a little. It's amazing at how much muscle you use in you stomach doing nothing but walking slow. Really shows you how much the water can help or hurt. Love water walking, so it's hard to not do it for awhile yet.

Had more energy, too. Been working on lessening the stress in my life, so things are moving along.

Hope you have a great one!

Amy - hope you have a great day at work and I hope you get your warm weather back. It's really disappointing when summer feels like a day long or even a week long. It hits and you want it to hang around a lot longer. Seems like Fall always felt more special when we had a "long hot summer" back in Seattle, which is nothing like it is here. The funny thing here is, everybody seems to have to complain so when it's Sauna weather, you hear - OMG It's so hot! Then when it rains you hear - Oh! We need this rain! I always remember back in Seattle it was just the opposite. It's funny how we are never satisfied with your weather.

Have a great day and enjoy it!

So glad to hear you are able to go back in the pool! Sounds like you really enjoyed it! I'm sure after time you will be able to add back some of the fattier foods, it may just take a bit of time.

Our weather here has been cooler after our heat spell of a few weeks. Hoping it gets hot again. I don't want fall to come too early.

Going to work this am, have a great day!

Yesterday, I called the surgeon's office and got permission to go to the pool. Bob and I changed clothes and ran to the pool. We nearly jumped in, but I actually controlled myself, as though I was afraid, and calmly, slowly walked into it. Then I walked slowly back and forth on the shallow end, which is the entire length of the Olympic sized pool we have access to. It was a wonderfully clean pool, except you don't know what germs are floating around in it, but I just walked and enjoyed. I made it for 30 minutes of slow walking with a couple minutes of break in between. This morning my stomach muscles feel like I tried to do 10 seconds of crunches! Ouch!

Going again in a few minutes. I feel so good right now. Still working on what I can eat and finding out things I can't handle, wondering if I'll ever be able to eat anything with fat in it again, like nut butters, which seem to cause my stomach grief - for some reason, too much fat, I think, it doesn't like even a small amount of nut butter.

Trying to stay away from bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, too. They cause my bsls to sky rocket and I'm sort of tired of messing with them, trying to find something to eat with them in order to counteract the fast rise, but I can only have 1/2 cup and it just isn't enough for me so having always been all or nothing, that's where I am. Nothing.

Got a lot of things done already this AM and looking forward to the pool in a bit.

Hope you are having a beautiful day to enjoy. We have very warm sun, blue skies, and Sauna weather - sweating to breathing. But so glad I'm not sitting in a rainy area.

Have a great one!

I think I have. I am learning (doing quite well, too) to listen to my body and it has learned how to wave flags at me where before it didn't do too well on the alert system. Apparently I never had a siren so that can't go off, and the lights and horns were not functioning, but I think they are back on line now. Plus the guys in the control center were not following protocol by pushing the system meltdown alarm for me. I was probably too busy to catch on, too, but now I think we are in tune. emoticon

Anyway, I was going to give the surgeon's office a call later this week and ask. Maybe I'll just do it now. Why not.

I was off the route with my eating and gained everything back that I had lost just before and after surgery. When I went for my follow up with the primary care doctor I had lost 4 pounds by his records and he didn't know that I had dropped 9 total so he thought I was doing great. This morning, I am down 8 of those 9 pounds I gained back. Boy when my appetite came back - it came back! So glad I managed to get it in line again. I am not eating potatoes, trying to not eat bread, although today I had some at lunch, but I can't figure out how to eat a turkey dog without a bun. I have decided to try to substitute raw broccoli for potato chips and fries. I analyzed why I like fries and chips and it was the crunch as I'm trying not to eat much in salt, fat, or sugar. So all that was left was crunch. Broccoli, carrots, celery, any crunch raw veggie I can eat will replace the fries and/or chips. So one hurdle down, emoticon

Gotta get on with it. Glad you are having a stretch of good days and I hope that stretch lasts a long time. Have a great one!

I did have a good day at work...After about 2 weeks of pretty much downright awful days I am on a stretch of having some very nice days. Days which aren't terribly busy and I am getting out on time. Hopefully this cycle will continue for a bit. I am off today and plan on getting some housework done.

My eating has been a bit out of control and I need to reign myself back. I have been stuck at my current weight for a number of weeks since vacation. It is clearly time to get back on track and start losing. Exercise is good and I have been doing strength training too. Now if I can control my food choices I will be golden.

Your surgeon's office should be able to direct you as to when you may swim. I bet it's not too much longer.

Your "puppy play" sounded so cute...Nothing cuter than puppies. I'm glad you are feeling better. This has been a long haul for you. Hopefully you have finally rounded the corner.

Have a great day,
Amy

Hope you had a great day at work. I'm not real good with Nutella - well I wasn't until I got the pain. Now I've decided no nut butters at all since I had tiny amount of peanut butter today on a cracker. it did the same thing to me. Don't know why I can't have nut butters right now, but figure it has to do with fat.

We went to the pool this morning. I sat in a chair at a table while my DH swam around in the pool all alone. It was quiet and peacful and he enjoyed it. I did, too even though I wanted to be in the pool. It will happen soon. Incisions are almost healed over and looking good, but I am not sure when I no longer have to worry about little organisms invading me through them.

I was energetic enough to get a bunch of housework done today. My DH said, "You're feeling better." I am. We were watching TOO CUTE on the Animal Channel and they had puppy day today. I was trying to nip him like the puppies were playing with each other, biting and making puppy sounds. He couldn't figure out what I was doing so I told him we were puppies and playing but my puppy sounds weren't right. He cracked up and started nipping back at my arm. We were laughing so hard we couldn't do anything. That's when he was sure I was feeling better.

Anyway, I hope you have a great day.

I hope you are feeling better today. I don't blame you for wanting to be home. That's a scarey feeling I'm sure.

I don't know if I could have Nutella in the house. I'm sure I would have to eat it until it was gone. I have no control over chocolate.

I am spinning my wheels currently. I have been lax with tracking and going over my daily limits. So I am getting back on track today and ready for the week with some good recipes.

I have to work this afternoon so I better get my day going here. Have a great day.

I'm sitting here alone while my husband is at a memorial service for a neighbor. She went real fast - thank God - and so most of us are at the service. I went, but sitting there waiting for the service to start, I had to go visit the lady's room. Felt like my insides were going to fall out by way of birth canal. Finally made it back to my seat and told my DH I was leaving. He just called to check on me and told me the service was over, but now it was lunch - we took a crock pot of zitty spaghetti made as healthy as we could make it.

It was pot luck and the table with the sugar was the first to overflow.

Discovered that I can not eat Nutella right now. Not even in small amounts. Must be too high in fat as my stomach would hurt like an ulcer after eating a couple crackers with Nutella on it. Trying to be good and not feel like I can't have anything. It is difficult sometimes to make the choice between low carb and low fat. Right now, low fat has priority, but I don't want to eat something that is super high in carbs in order to do low fat. I ate yogurt this morning so I could get some of the good "bugs" back in my system. They killed every living thing inside me at the hospital. Not complaining, just stating a fact. So I waited, on doctor's orders as I was not eating any dairy except 2% milk and now I can eat basically what I want, just be careful.

Day before yesterday, my stomach started to hurt and everything I did was useless. I was at a point where I was going to go to emergency if things didn't change. I was getting scared. Anyway, it subsided, I went to bed and around 3am I puked. Instantly felt better. Went back to bed and slept like a baby until 7am.

Then yesterday it started again and I started going over what I had eaten. Nutella was the common thread. Thank God my stomach did not hurt as bad yesterday and I didn't have the episode of purging the system as I did the day before and I slept well last night without pain. Woke up this morning with absolutely no pain and still don't have any. Testing my theory without the Tylenol today. So far, so good.

Have a great one!

Off from work today and need to get a bunch of things done. I plan on going grocery shopping after I do some meal planning for the week. I would love to make some gazpatcho.

Looks like it may rain later today so I need to get my walk in.

Have a great day,
Amy

That's too bad about your cabin. I can't believe how ignorant people can be.

Hope your pain has subsided. Pretty soon all will be behind you. You have a great attitude. Keep pushing forward.

Have a lovely evening,

I'm working hard to be a winner today! I know I can do it, so I'm going to do it!

Low Fat, Low Carb, staying in range all the way and tracking my food and fitness.

Did not get my walk done today - too much pain in the stomach area. Made it about 14 houses down and had to turn around cuz I felt like a broom handles was pushing into my stomach. Not sure what that was about, but came home and relaxed some. It's gone now.

Will go to the clubhouse this afternoon to walk the treadmill for a while. I have to get something done today cuz I don't want to break my little new streak I have going.

Hope you have a great day! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sounds like you have some great plans ahead. We used to have a place in the woods in WA, but I sold it when we moved here because I knew what it would look like in 10 years of neglect. Just before we moved here, some jerks broke in, took all the electrical things, the refrigerator (that didn't work), the stove, the converter out of the floor, a TV, and I don't know why they didn't take the stereo out of the wall. They even took my expensive kitchen curtains, talk about creeps. If I would have found them, i would have called the cops then scared them so bad they would be lucky to have dry pants by the time the cops got there. I really dislike people that are so useless they feel it is alright to steel from others. They didn't steel to make money for drugs, either. They were outfitting their home at the expense of others.

Anyway, my appetite came back with a vengeance and I'm having a hard time controlling it period. I gained the 9 pounds I lost back and now I have to kick myself in gear and relose them so I can keep going. I will get to wonderland sooner than later cuz I plan on kicking myself every step of the way!

We did our 1 mile walk again today, 3 days consecutive. I started out feeling great, but had to slow down as my "stitches" started aching. I marked the time when we left and when we got back and realized I had done the mile in 22 minutes. That's way too fast for me right now. I think it would have been a 20 minute mile, but I slowed way down at the end because of the pain. Never realized I was walking that fast and always thought i needed to speed up. But with the work he had to do on me while getting out the GB, I am taking a lot longer (age is in there too) than what I would have thought would be needed.

My "scars" are nearly healed, but will not be going back to the pool until okayed by the doctor, which is another 2 months.

So recovery is coming along and I'm feeling more energized again. I can look back and see how out of it I was after the surgery. I can also look farther back and see how I was progressively getting worse without realizing it. My charting is coming in handy and I am loath to give it up. I have given up some of it, but am thinking about resuming it as it could all come in handy somewhere a long the line and it's kind of nice to be able to go back and see patterns.

Well, gotta go. Good luck on your journey to reach your goals. I right beside you. Have a great one!

Aww Pat no...I am sorry. I worked last week and then this past weekend we went and stayed at my brother-in-law's camp for the weekend. It is a nice little get-away. He bought it in March from a friend of ours who lost her husband. It's a trailer and needs some work but it's in such a beautiful spot you can somewhat overlook the unattractiveness of the inside lol...like the moldy musty smell and ugly carpet and furniture lol...My brother-in-law is over-extended with his 6 kids and can't keep up with what needs to be done there so my husband has been going down every other week to cut the grass and check on things etc. It's about 35 miles away and is a pleasant drive.

It sounds like you are recovering from your surgery and are keeping on track. I myself have recommitted to my eating and exercise plan and pledge to lose 5 pounds over this next month. We are visiting my sister and her family at the end of August. She lives in Portland, Maine. I am looking forward to getting another trip in before the fall and ugly weather returns.

While we were in Florida my husband's cousin who was with us got engaged so we have a wedding next May. They are getting married in Cancun so my husband and I have vowed to lose some weight before. I am tired of going away and wishing I was at my goal. It's time to just do it.

I hope you have a great day,
Amy

Another day - another new slate to write on. Doing meal planning today in what feels like forever as I wasn't meal planning through all this surgery and recovery stuff. It was basically automatic - biggest goal was to have as little fat as possible.

That's still my goal, but now I'm trying to balance it a lot better as in putting in some veggies and fruit. I was living on fruit and chicken. It was okay, but I'm getting a little board with it.

Read my Chicken Blog for a great recipe I made. It's one of the easiest and yummy recipes I've had in a long time and to think it came out of my brain. I don't usually even attempt to make a recipe all on my own. I usually use other recipes as inspiration to something and change out sugar and fats for something I can use. But this one was totally out of my head and it came out great.

I did gain a few pounds back this week, but I'm getting the off again and moving on. We had a celebration on Wednesday and I learned a couple of things - one I had too much fat in the form of cream and a sneaky butter attack. I ordered shrimp on a bed of bowtie pasta. I read the entire description - now where did it say, sauteed or scamp. So I ordered it. it was Scampi and alfredo sauce on the bowtie pasta. We waited almost an hour to get it and I was starving by then as we had gone for what turned out to be a hike before dinner and I missed my snack and was actually hurting from too much walking. i wasn't a real happy camper, but as time wore on, I was getting more upset than anything else.

I should have rejected the entire thing but didn't want to make a fuss and wasn't going to wait another hour for something else. My stomach hurt like the flu when I left the restaurant and I really thought it was all going to come up. I managed to get past it, but i knew why I had it, so now I'm real careful on what I eat and I will never eat shrimp scampi and alfredo sauce in that portion again. I am sure it would have fed 4 people. I have no idea what the nutrients would have been so can't even count it. I gained 4 pounds from that meal alone and wonder if the exercise before hand kept me from gaining more pounds.

Anyway, live and learn. I got it.

So I'm being extra careful now - but trying to do meal plans again. Sticking to turkey, chicken, and fish to be real safe. I can have 2% milk or 1% or Skim, but we normally have 1% milk in the house. I don't know why but I have a craving for donuts and cookies and i've had it for almost two weeks. Pizza, too. I'm dreaming about pepperoni pizza.

After the Wednesday problem, I won't be eating pepperoni pizza in a long time. Too much fat and a pile of cheese. Why does it have to look and taste so good? And wouldn't you know, Little Caesars has a new pepperoni pizza they are pushing and while I've never had their brand, if it weren't for the no fat diet I am working on, I'd be in line for their new pizza. Resisting 8 corners of caramelized cheese and pepperoni is extremely difficult. I am extremely glad I don't even know where one of their shops is!

So another day to plan and live on. Have a great one!

Yesterday my computer must have been haunted - I couldn't get it to do much and it was driving me up a wall trying to figure out what was wrong and fix it. Today, I turn it on and it's just fine. Not sure what the heck was going on.

Went to the doctor yesterday (primary care) as follow up to GB surgery. He was happy with the 5 sites, said they were going to be tiny straight lines. I figured as much as they aren't much bigger now and they are still 18 days to complete healing. I told him the surgeon told me 41 days from surgery which made it August 6th and he laughed. Anyway, he told me to stick to that idea and be careful with my exercise, still no lifting, pushing, or pulling (do you realize how hard that is? Everything I do is a near push, pull, or lift - at least that's how it feels.) I can go for walks, increasing time and steps. He wants me at 30 minutes of walking a day. So that's what I'm building to. I don't have to go see a doctor now for 2 more months.

Now I'm working on getting 2 fruits and 3 veggies a day into my diet again. Feel like I haven't done that in years - hasn't been that long, just feels like it. So when I'm done here, I will go take inventory of refrigerator, freezers, and cupboards, then start meal planning again.

Doing well, just have to hold myself back as I want to run and jump with everyone else, but not allowed yet. Can't wait for the pool again. Will call the doctor and ask before I do that and that won't be until I think all the scars are really done and well. Still have a couple of tiny spots on the bellybutton spot.

Have a great day!

I'm feeling better. "Discovered" a few irritating-nagging health issues have cleared up along with the GB removal. I don't have the post nasal drip I had before so I'm not constantly blowing my nose, sneezing, and hacking up crap from my throat, my skin isn't as dry, and my dry-itchy ears aren't dry and itchy anymore. Hope it's permanent.

Strange way of telling me that the GB was going haywire. How am I supposed to figure out that it's the GB from that? No wonder I had no idea. So glad it's gone.

Today is a busy day for me. Going to Tampa for the night and I have no idea when we're leaving today, but sometime this afternoon probably. Will be nice for a night away.

Have a great one!

I can't travel very far without getting out and walking around for nearly 30 minutes, drinking a bucket of water, depositing same in the proper receptacle and then strapping myself back in for another 2 hours. We don't go past 2.5 hours at one time because my joints get so ache and my ankles and feet swell up like sausages. The DH is finding the same things happens to him now so one us makes it to a rest stop about every 2 hours. It's interesting that they are almost placed about that far apart, too. Occasionally, we'll find one that has a warning sign, next reststop is 468 miles away. That means there isn't one for nearly 7 hours away. There we make plans to stop in some town and enjoy a lunch or dinner at a restaurant. We'll usually find a safe spot to stop for a few minutes of walking around in circles if that's all we can do, but usually we find there is plenty of space and safe areas to get in some exercise.

I know the feeling on the work. It always feels good to wind down to the end of it for a day or so. Seems like I used to plan all the housework around my day off, then I decided, there's no time off, just switched jobs, so I forced myself for awhile, until it became habit, to do my housework every night after work. I still do that. I do my laundry that way, too. So I do the living/dining room (great room) on Monday, which means, vacuuming, dusting, glass and window washing, changing decorations if the mood and timing is right and furniture polishing and I do my towels on Monday.

The easiest way I found to do it was to take the areas I had to clean and divide them by 5 that way, I had the "weekends" for myself. I have two bathrooms and they both get scrubbed on the same day, but they are going to get switched to Monday cuz Tuesday am is trash pickup. So then I get all the garbage out of the kitchen and bathrooms into the trash for the week.

There is a method to my madness. It took me awhile to get it the way it worked best for me and it was easier when I had a one bedroom apt instead of a two bedroom, two bathroom, with office attached. I usually do both bedrooms on the same day as one is rarely used and it's good to go in and clean out the crap that seems to accumulate there.

Anyway, have a great one and enjoy some of your "weekend" for yourself. You deserve some time to relax and it's good for you.

It's sticky hot here and we are having our usual summer full of T-storms every day. My nephew and his two buddies went to the beach this morning. Not sure which one they went to, but hope they remembered to get off the beach if it's T-storming there. Pretty sure they will. They all live nearby each other, graduated from UConn together and like the same music so they took a week to come all the way down here to go to two concerts, one in Tampa, the other across state to Ft. Lauderdale, then they will go home the next day - another drive in less than 24, cuz they have to go to work on Monday and they will just make it.

They were so tired when they got here and it took them all day yesterday to run around and stretch out the kinks and knots in their muscles. Three guys packed into a Corolla from CT (Almost MA) all the way South of Tampa in 21 hours. Ugh!

Gotta go - have a great one!

That's really nice your nephew is visiting. How fun. We used to drive 12+ hrs in one shot to NC when we were younger. We would leave at the wee hrs in the am and drive all day. I wouldn't do it now because the traffic gets so bad in VA at certain times of the day.

One more day to work and then a few off. Can't wait.

Have a good day. We are having some heat up here!

Nephew arrived early this morning, around 2am. They drove all the way from CT to FL in one long run. I think the three of them are nuts, but it's something I might have tried at their age. They all just graduated from UCONN and they are all good kids. But it isn't healthy to fold yourself into a Toyota Corolla and drive that far for that long. Anyway, it's good to see them and I'll only get a couple days of them before they move on.

So I am exhausted this morning. Went to bed when I usually get up so a couple of hours is just not going to cut the mustard today.

Glad I do not have to go somewhere else to work and I don't even have any work to do on the computer today that isn't already done, so I can feel for you and still be glad it isn't me.

Have a great day!

I don't blame you, I would call my insurance company too and complain. If anything at least you will get it off your chest and they will know you are an unsatisfied customer.

Got a bill from the anesthesiologist for the failed attempt on 05/16. Going to dispute it because he didn't do his work and hurt my throat causing me a lot of pain for a week. I can understand things don't go as planned, but I don't think you should bill for it. I haven't received a bill from the hospital for all the trays that were opened, unused, but had to be resterilized, or the other equipment that was opened and had to be resterilized, plus all the personnel that were there waiting to do their jobs but couldn't. I know the hospital has lost several thousand dollars. There was a fee I had to pay and they rolled it over to the next week as they should have.

So why does a anesthesiologist get to charge for a job he botched then couldn't come talk to me, face me, or even come to the second chance he had? His boss had to deal with it all. So, I'm calling the insurance company tomorrow to complain about it. Don't know that anything will happen with it, but I think it's kind of gutsy to charge for it.

I guess I'm a little ticked off about it. Sorry. Not wanting to be negative or pouty. I'm back to positive and happy. I'm doing well, feeling better every day. Still have a side ache when I walk too much, but hey, something has to say, "Stop! Need a break, Please! or I'll just keep going.

Have a great one! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sounds like a great garden. We planted some beans, got blooms, lots of leaves, but no beans yet. Wait, I think i see one bean in there. Not sure what's going on. Hubby sprayed them, he says.

I am doing better every day. Today, I am tired, because we got at it early and I think i did a little too much, but how do you "stretch" yourself if you don't add a step or two more. Guess I'll have to live with being tired for awhile.

But on the whole, I am feeling better. Today I felt like I had more energy and wanted to get out there. Also my arthritis is killing me these last two days. Feet, hands, hips, knees, elbows. Can't wait to see my primary on the 18th to see if I can go back to my arthritis med.

Tomorrow, don't know what I'm doing, maybe some easy housework for me. the DH his going to have to run the vacuum through the house.

Have a great one and glad yo enjoyed your vacation. It is hard to come back to work right away. I always felt disoriented even after a few days of missed work, but it didn't take long to get into it again.

Hi Pat! Glad you are feeling better. Sorry you had complications. It sounds like you are getting better each day. Way to go on your weightloss.

We returned from our vacation on Sunday and had to go back to work on Monday bright and early. It's never fun going back to work after vacation but a necessary evil if you want more vacation. We had a great time. My husband's cousin got engaged while we were together. Lots of fun...not a lot of sun though:(

The weather here is glorious today. I think we are supposed to be rain-free now for a week. Our garden is growing like crazy. We have zucchini, yellow squash, blueberries, chard, kale, and the beans will be ready soon.

Have a great day!
Amy
