Thanks for the suggestion, SKINNYJENNY!

I know it's late, sadly I don't check into the team as often as I should. I would love to see a Current Events section/thread, to just discuss what's going on in the Catholic world. I wanted to come to our group and start a thread about what everyone thought of the new pope so far, and couldn't find what I thought was an appropriate place.

PS: I am DIGGING Pope Francis. :-D

I've been checking this thread regularly during the last two weeks and want to thank everyone for their thoughtful suggestions. Wow! There are a lot of talented people on this team!

During the coming week, I will be sorting through the suggestions and chatting with my other co-leaders to develop a plan for our team.

Meantime, if there are more suggestions and considerations for us, please advise via Sparkmail.

I will be sure to report back to this thread soon!

That's a wonderful idea, Andy. I belong (not actively anymore) a Team that was all about travelling to different places. It takes a bit of time to set up the distances and places and things, but once done, it "runs itself" as people who choose to participate just keep track of their own distances and post them when they have reached different spots along the way.

Here is a link to that Team if anyone wants to check it out, the challenges, the posting, the pics along the way, etc.:

That Team's challenge basic info:

I like your idea of a virtual pilgrimage as well Andy. I don't know how difficult this would be to set up but I think it would be both spiritual and fitness motivational.

I really like that idea, Andy. I mean, if we can have virtual 5 and 10k's, why not a virtual pilgrimage? Perhaps we can develop something of a "travel/spiritual guide" along with it. That as members hit specific so many steps/miles, etc, we have a Catholic related sight to tell the history about, and perhaps some Scripture that applies to this journey. It could be a great way to motivate our fitness goals.

Okay, just another thought...

This is a great Sparkpeople team to be with people who share the Catholic faith but do we want this to include more health related activities.

What about seasonal challenges that connect with our faith. Perhaps a walk to Jerusalem, starting at Bethlehem, and then maybe to Rome, or Lourdes, or Assissi. Our fitness minutes or steps could take us on a virtual pilgrimage to special locations.

But then again, maybe people prefer this particular team to be more about the Faith and less about activity.

I think a "topic" where we can pass along interesting links would be nice...
I listen to EWTN(CH.130) and the Catholic Channel(CH. 129) on Sirius radio.
Also, I found some cool apps for my Android.

I just joined the team and haven't had much time to peruse yet, but I'd vote for the "beliefs and traditions" forum. I struggle sometimes with the differences between catholicism and other christian faiths, and would like the chance to hear different points of view.

Wow, have I missed this topic or what!!

Change is ALWAYS good and these ideas are great. Been on Sparkpeople for a few years and still do not know all the ins and outs of it. The team pic of the week sounds great ANDY, and also Catholic news around the world with EWTN. Traditions and rituals can really encourage each other in their faith walk, so I'm looking forward to that.

Prayers for the conclave this Tuesday and maybe some thread about this would be great too. Any body who knows stuff about cardinals, the Vatican, Vatican city, news reports and the new pope...who ever the Holy Spirit chooses will be a great thread

In my humble opinion! Lenten blessings to all!

Okay, I just discovered something new. Have any of you noticed that there is a Team photo page. Just to the right, below Team Stream it shows Blogs, Links and Photos.

What do you all think about posting a photo on that page as part of a team building challenge?
Possibly changing each month or season... Photo of your church, Photo of the inside of your church, pics throughout the seasons. At our church we have amazing banners that go up through the year. I will see if I can take a pic after Mass today and post them here.

What do you think?

Since people seem to be interested in Catholics in the media, does everyone out there have access to EWTN? www.ewtn.com

I HIGHLY recommend watching "World Over Live" with Raymond Arroyo. It's news from a Catholic perspective, and there is always a segment dedicated to reporting persecution of Catholics here in the US and around the world. Incredibly eye opening stuff!

Also, if you can find it, search for Arroyo's interview with Hugh Jackman & Tom Hooper about Les Miserables. It's just awesome (and if you haven't see Les Mis, SEE IT! It's the most spectacular, moving, and positive view of a God centered life that I have ever seen on film)

Two very good suggestions. I must admit that I have never studied the sticky topics area enough to even know how they, or more specifically, how I work them.

A path to monitor the media is a great idea. I am appalled at the level of anti Christian "media" is out there. Christianity is chastised, Islam is celebrated. Upside down, if you ask me.

I know the sticky topics are troublesome, but more so in the forums that only allow 3 topics to be shown on the main page.

Just quick check - does everyone know how to see all the topics in a forum? Some of our newer members may not realize, but we can view all topics in a forum (dozens usually) by clicking on "see other topics" under the forum headings on the main team page.

Good day all.

I feel there are too many sticky topics and there are times I would like to see what other's post also at the top of the list.

Abortion: Mayor Cuomo is allowing late term abortions. We need to pray! It sickens me also that the unborn child is not protected by drug users.

You may not want to hear this but we need to pray for this country and the world. The politics are directly effecting the use of the words God and Christ in government. Separation of Church and state is only that one cannot rule the other. Taking God and Christ out of schools and government is hurting the faith in this country and I am tired of God losing a place, HIS place here on earth.

The monthly news I receive from the Blessed Mother in Medjugorje is critical. Her last response was very important.

www.medjugorje.org/messagesall.htm

I would like an area to post a "Faith in the Media" so we can see where God's work has prevailed! Some media actually have good stories. I have a lot of newsletters about babies being saved, for example from Catholic prayer groups.

Thanks for asking!

I am wondering if it would work if the Novena thread could be novenas, prayers requests, etc. but even now looking at the novena thread, could the three stickies be combined into two so one spot is open for new intentions.

Would it work if the new header could be all things Catholic? And the discussion could be about traditions, books, questions about the Faith etc. But perhaps it doesn't need a sticky as topics would surface according to interest. I would be up for a book discussion if others would as well.

Perhaps General discussion could include the games, healthy living questions ...those things that are General or health related but not specific to the Faith.

I would prefer that each message are has one or two open spots so tht stickies do not hide any new topics that pop up though. Even under the introduction thread thee was a question that came up about what parish do you belong to but it is hidden under th stickies that are currently there.

Just my two cents. I appreciate all that the team leaders are doing.

Wow, thanks for opening this up for discussion, JC! I have only been in this group for a short while, but absolutely love the opportunity the leaders have provided to meet and communicate with other Catholics.

Here are some suggestions I'd like to humbly put out there for people to consider:

On the subject of timely general discussion/topics:
* Would love to see a "Catholic News of the Day" kind of thread
* A "Living the Faith Throughout the World" discussion group - a place to discuss international Catholic charitable causes, humanitarian efforts, and ministries
* Updated reports on the fight to end Catholic persecution throughout the world, particularly in predominantly fundamentalist Islamic and Eastern societies. (Happy to help with this; it's one of my bugbears)
* A thread devoted to the upcoming conclave

This could fall under "general topics," but I'm separating it out, because it's one I'm particularly passionate about (since it is in my professional field) and could be a forum as well:
* CATHOLICS IN THE ARTS, ENTERTAINMENT, & MEDIA - would love to see several topics here: discussion of both positive and negative portrayals of Catholics, accuracy/inaccuracy of portrayals, Catholic reporting in mainstream news, inspiring stories of faith for professionals in these fields and how they incorporate Catholicism into their craft, I could go on and on. But then again, this happens to be *my* field, so maybe it's only interesting to me! Hehe.

Definite thumbs up for CATHOLIC RITUALS AND TRADITIONS; I'd really like to read about and discuss not only how people live their faith, but what ministries people participate in, and possibly a photo album where members can share photographs of weddings/baptisms/First Communion/Confirmation, etc.

A PRO-LIFE forum would also be of interest, but I would like to respectfully request that if people are amenable to starting this forum and subsequent discussion groups, that we specifically include a thread regarding the fight to end the death penalty.

Hope these suggestions help!

Hello and a Blessed Sunday to all our Catholic Critters!

The Leaders have been talking about ways to improve our Team and encourage more discussion and participation. It feels like some of our topics may be getting stagnant and that perhaps they are crowding out other, more timely and interesting topics.

We are considering reorganizing the team forums and discussions to liven things up a bit. And we'd like your suggestions and comments on how to do that.

Please consider the following:

The General Discussion Forum includes a seasonal chat thread, prayer requests, and many other topics including games (such as word association). We would like to move away from the games and include more Catholic topics in the general discussion forum.

The Introduce Yourself Forum would likely remain the same. Here is where we welcome new teams members and learn a bit more about them and ourselves!

Our Challenges Forum changes throughout the year as we develop and run different challenges. If you have not done so already, check our Lenten Challenge! Your suggestions for new Challenges are always welcome.

Our Novena Challenge is active and thriving. Thanks to CJ and all prayer warriors for keeping that going.

We have room for one NEW forum. We have several options there.
* Do we want to move the games to a newly named GAME forum?
* Do we want to create a PRO-LIFE forum and have several discussion topics there?
* Do we want to create a CATHOLIC RITUALS AND TRADITIONS forum and have several discussion topics there? This would not include novenas, since we have that covered.

Please use this thread to comment on these three questions and any other concerns you have about our team. If desired, you may Sparkmail any team leader.

We will be collecting and tabulating your comments during the next two weeks--until about March 17--before we make any changes to our team forums.

As always, Critters, we appreciate your feedback and your devotion to our team and our shared faith traditions.
