Mariel, You are not alone! I also suffer from depression and anxiety. My meds are definitely helping. Prayer helps tremendously, especially the Rosary - it keeps my mind busy so that I do not have time to worry.
I empathize. I also struggle with depression on occasion and a (very) mild bi-polar. I do not take meds for it but would not advise another to avoid meds if it would help them.
What I will suggest is find your local DBSA group.
That's Depression and Bi-Polar Support Alliance. http://www.dbsalliance.org They have local chapters all over the place. My husband and I went to one here in IL for 2 years. We learned a lot of things about how to manage depression and how to recognize the signs of cycling through the bi-polar phases.
It's hard to explain in this format, but just go to the web site I listed and find one near you. Go to the meetings for a while and see if it helps. It can't hurt.
I use what I learned there everyday to manage my depression.
Good luck, I will pray for you.
Also...do you pray to St. Dymphna she is the patron saint of people with depression and mental disorders. I bet if you typed in a search for the novena to St. Dymphna you would find it to copy or download. She has done wonders for me. If you can't find it, email me and I will scan mine in and email it back to you.
Just think of all the people in this group who are praying for you and your family! See a doctor and/or your pastor, if you are comfortable with him. Pray the rosary, it is soothing to concentrate on the prayers and on each bead; do the best you can, God did not make any of us perfect. I know from personal experience it is harder to concentrate on anything when you are depressed. Sit down and write out your feelings, just for yourself. It will perhaps give you a sense of relief to get them down on paper.. It may help cut down on rumination of your worries or distressed feelings. Then either put it in a safe place to refer to, or tear it up and throw it away. It never hurts to just have a good cry, either!! We will continue to pray for you; you have a family who needs you, and loves you! You are so important, get help, and your pain will lessen perhaps slowly but surely.

I am in need of prayers. I am really emotionally struggling with life. My depression and anxiety has gotten so much worse. Its the worst it has ever been. Please pray for me and anyone else who has these illnesses. My anxiety is so bad that I feel like everyone is after me, I feel like I am going to get fired from work...etc... It haunts me at night and when Im alone. My husband works from noon till 9pm Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday and Saturday. I am without him from those times and with my 6 year old son. I need prayers for him as well. We found out his allergies and asthma are severe. Thanks to everyone who can help. May God Bless you all!
