I empathize. I also struggle with depression on occasion and a (very) mild bi-polar. I do not take meds for it but would not advise another to avoid meds if it would help them.
What I will suggest is find your local DBSA group.
That's Depression and Bi-Polar Support Alliance. http://www.dbsalliance.org They have local chapters all over the place. My husband and I went to one here in IL for 2 years. We learned a lot of things about how to manage depression and how to recognize the signs of cycling through the bi-polar phases.
It's hard to explain in this format, but just go to the web site I listed and find one near you. Go to the meetings for a while and see if it helps. It can't hurt.
I use what I learned there everyday to manage my depression.
Good luck, I will pray for you.
Also...do you pray to St. Dymphna she is the patron saint of people with depression and mental disorders. I bet if you typed in a search for the novena to St. Dymphna you would find it to copy or download. She has done wonders for me. If you can't find it, email me and I will scan mine in and email it back to you.
