That's a great picture.

I finally feel like I'm starting to get used to the new missal. At mass this morning, I only had to check the reference card a couple of times, and I noticed that the congregation as a whole has been getting better at remembering. I'm hearing fewer "blends" with some people saying the old words and others the new.

We'll catch on with time and practice.

We had a visiting priest celebrate with us, as ours is on holiday. I was lost for a bit during the Eucharistic Prayer. Visiting Father had begun with the third Eucharistic Prayer, then switched to the fourth one halfway through!

I was confused for a few minutes!

ACECHURA - that's a wonderful way that it was done, to prepare the faithful for the changes. We did that here, too, with the postures and the musical changes and things. We saved the actual wording changes until the first week of Advent, but we had prepared quite well with booklets and explanations from the pulpit, etc.

CATHOLICCORGI - I agree. Balance is great!

I was talking to some priests the other day about sin, and about the sacraments, and they were telling me that all sacraments take away sin. I agreed, and said that I was aware that the sacrament of the Eucharist removes venial sin from our soul. One priest seemed impressed with my knowledge, and shared what I had said with another of the priests. The second one said, "Well, we don't distinguish between different types of sin, the Eucharist removes all sin." I did not argue with him, but said a silent prayer.

I was thrilled that my 13 year old daughter was able to tell me that venial sin is washed away with the Eucharist, but we need to go to confession (or have perfect contrition) in order to wipe a mortal sin from our soul. Thanks be to God!

I love the changes! I think perhaps the Church is getting back to a balance... some went over the deep end with Vatican 2... We are going back to the basics again, and the traditions that should be kept... I like the more reverence and worshipfulness of the "new" wording. I remember the Latin, and still love it, too!.

I really like the new changes. our parish opted to slowly integrate portions prior to advent with nice explanations of the changes prior to Mass and printed in the worship aids, so the first weekend of Advent went fairly smoothly with a few mistakes throughout the mass. Christmas, there were lots of mistakes though. Probably many of whom hadn't been there since before we started practicing.

That's foolishness! Most of the "changes" are going back to the wording in the 1962 Roman Missal! Unless they have forgotten the long ago past, which is pretty rare, they should be able to recall most of it. "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof" are the exact words we always said in the 50's for heavens sake!

I love the changes especially during consecration. Everyone seems to be paying closer attention so the reverence is there. Still a few minor slip-ups from time to time, but for the most part, things have resolved.

I'm annoyed with myself - I keep wanting to pay special attention to the part of the consecration wherein the priest now says, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for MANY for the forgiveness of sins," and I keep missing it! Love it --back to basics and it follows the Spanish format which never changed so I am happy. I teach in a catholic school and we had been practicing the new forms since last year-- the kids got a thrill of the word consubstantial in the creed!! I could even say it at first!!!

In our church, the things that have been changed have been pasted into the front and back of the hymn books. I also have my own missal as well as the monthly missalette.
There were a few flubs last weekend; the bishop who was presiding said if we were worried about the changes for us 'please pray for me', lol!
I do like the changes; I just have to get used to them so I can remember them wihout having to read them.

I would not want to go back to Latin, but I love
the "New" Mass, which is basically the "old" mass.

Our priest doesn't "allow" the misselette.
We have limited ones with mostly music in them,
so you HAVE to listen and pay attention.

We did have a small 4 page "card"
that had the changes but most acted like
they weren't aware of all the changes.

I would say most might have gotten 1 of the 4 "and with your spirit"

Before I became Catholic, I looked at the Catholic Church as being very repetitive. Always doing the same thing with not much spontaneity. It is good to have a change once in a while.

I think this is a good time for us to reflect on the words we are saying and why we are saying them.

Don't take offence. Even if the Church went back to Latin, I would still go every Sunday. To where else would we turn?

As a relatively new Catholic I feel so blessed to be a part of this. I am so grateful to the Catholic Church for the education it is doing as we all struggle to learn the new mass. While I am a convert of two years I have been attending mass for the last 25. I so much appreciate the changes. I know it may take us awhile to adapt but even the priests are so understanding and accepting of the struggles. We will all get it soon enough. Blessings to all.

I am one of those "old people"! However, this "new" translation IS the old translation for the most part! lol! I still have and use my 1962 Roman Missal which has the prayers in English on one half the page and in Latin on the other half of the page. Anything that makes us think about what we are saying is very good. The holy sacrifice of the Mass is so wonderful and learning more about it can only be a good thing, imo.

I really like it, I think it shakes us up and for some folks i think it helps us hear the mass again instead of just giving timed responses.
Did anyone see the article on Yahoo Sunday about the changes? It was a little funny and i thought sad that so many people apparently are mad about the changes and threatening to leave the church over it.
There was a 51 year old woman who was quoted using the D word who basically said that there was no need for the changes. The poor thing must have just left mass and she was that angry over it.
I have to wonder just how upset people were over the changes that came with Vatican II and they were a lot more than just a few words changed!

I got one right and mumbled through the other three. I didn't know we said it so much. I had trouble finding the creed in my missalett so lip sinking became a new art for me.

We aren't that old of dogs, so we can be taught new tricks. It just may take longer.

I went to a class our local parish had. It was amazing. There was a scholar theologist who explained so much about the history of the mass. I was terribly sick the entire weekend and missed mass. Everyone was ill including the dog all week and weekend. My new Missal has not been delivered yet! I can't wait to get it. †

I attend the 4pm mass on Saturdays. there tend to be a lot of older people that don't have the greatest vision so they struggled to read the new changes so they just responded with what they knew. It will take time, but the important thing is we be mindful of our faith and share it,

it was amazing, beautiful, and new for many who still said, "And also with you" mixed in with "and with your spirit". It will take time.

We were traveling home and in Linville, NC and the priest was very good at his new prayers. The mountains in the big window behind the altar with heavy clouds nestled on it's tip.....it was an appalachian morning!!

We were like children, practicing before Mass , with our Msgr. going over it with us the last two weeks; and yes, during Mass there were a few mistakes. It appears to me that some of this "new" is actually a return to what it was when I was much younger and we had the Latin Mass first set aside for the English. Anyone remember?

It was all very interesting.
Father John kind of struggled with the new Eucharistic Prayer. I am sure with time it will flow better.
We flubbed 2 out of 4 "And with your spirit". That will take some time to get it right.

Any 'bloopers' in your parish?
Which Mass version did each parish use?

My answers:

I enjoyed listening to the new Eucharistic Prayer.
