While going through Catechism and RCIA, we always had snacks at the end. We always said our quick prayer:
Bless us Oh Lord for these our gifts which we are about to receive from our bounty through Christ our Lord, Amen.
I love it because it's a short prayer, but once, we were a little hungry for pretzels and their dear story in Lent, and forgot the blessing before. Our dear sweet Deacon Santi then changed it to "Bless us oh Lord for these our gifts which we are receiving,"
I think that it's really a great prayer anytime something good is happening with the modification, not just when one is praying before a meal. Adds an extra rejoice in with the wonderful things that happen in our lives.

JESUSLOVR - funny! I like that prayer too.
LOBOTOME - great prayers. Thank you for sharing those. I am wary about what ways God will have of emptying me of me! What obstacles or crosses will He place in my path in order to practise relying on Him?
I often pray for patience - and get tough opportunities to practise!

Another lovely prayer I discovered
Drain Me of Me
Father, I am so full of myself. I know that if I truly wish to serve you, If I truly wish to share your word and your love, This must not be the way.
And so today, Father, I ask you: Drain me of me
Of all the self-inflated ego Drain me
Of all the harsh judgement that comes so easily Drain me
Of all jealousy and resentment Drain me
Of all the desire for attention and adulation Drain me
Of all attachment to the flesh Drain me
Of all that is not of you Drain me
And when I am emptied, unencumbered by The stuff and nonsense of the world, No longer weighed down by the heaviness And burdens put upon me by myself Or the dark forces of the evil one
Fill me with your Spirit, For your Spirit has no chains, Your Spirit recognizes no boundaries, Your Spirit is lightness and light, Your Spirit allows me to soar As on eagle’s wings.
And so, Father, right now, this moment I give you permission to Drain me of me, That I may be more like you Through your Son, Jesus Christ In the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen

@ JesusLovr(hope i spelled it right)I loved this!! You made me laugh too!
I also love the "He must increase, I must decrease" quote. Now THAT's awesome! It can be taken literally too! I'll remember that one. You should put it as your signature in your posts :D
As to ONE of my favorite prayers because it's ONE of my struggles.
Litany of Humility
O Jesus, meek and humble of heart,
Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, O Jesus. From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, O Jesus.
That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be praised and I go unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
There's also another prayer that I've just started praying, but I think I'll put it in another post as it's fairly long as well.

The "O my Jesus" said during the Rosary and the Jesus prayer. I must share this: I used to use the pool at the YMCA a lot (but my irritable bladder stopped it) and as I'd swim a lap I'd repeat the Jesus prayer to myself all the way. Suddenly, I realized I was saying "swimmer" instead of "sinner", I laughed so hard I nearly swallowed half the pool. I also0 use "He must increase, I must decrease" a quote from St. Paul, as a breath prayer.

Good question.
I would like to begin the next one after this next one (that's confusing!), for Oct, for the month of the Rosary.
I'll do the math ...

edited to add - How about we start the next one on July 26? Then, the one after can be started Oct 1? I'll get a thread going for intentions asap.

I didn't know the Memorare until I was introduced to the 54-Day Rosary Novena here in Catholic Critters. I now love it, too.
Kate - was that the prayer you were trying to think of before? The 4 chant words? They're beautiful. I want to meditate on those next time I am at Adoration.

At the Mass I went to while back in my DH's home town, I heard a sermon which has stayed with me, at least to some extent. The priest was from Jordan, and a little bit (but not too much) hard to understand. He said that the following was from an old chant: trust, surrender, believe and receive. I've found that these four words are a great framework for prayer. If we trust Christ to be who He says He is, we can surrender whatever our needs are. If we believe that He can take these and work them out to the best things for us, then we can receive all the gifts He has in store for us. I have taken a number of concerns and prayed about them with this. Kate

Please share dear Kate..the Prayer for Negects.. I would like to share the following which we all say regularly..I finally have it memorized after all these years..
Hail holy queen our life our sweetness and our hope to Thee do we cry, poor banished children of eve to Thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears Turn then oh most gracious advocate Your eyes of mercy toward us and after this our exile show us the Blessed fruit of your Womb, Jesus Oh clement oh, loving oh sweet Virgin Mary Pray for us oh Holy Mother of God That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ

Hail Mary. Does any one know "At The Cross Her Station Keeping"? (Sabat Mater)
I only know it as a song though.

I enjoy the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and in connection with that, the prayer of St. Gertrude, as Gobbler recommended. I pray that one almost every day!

Yes it's in my Pieta prayer book. I say it before bed along with this one:
PRAYER FOR DAILY NEGLECTS
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with all its love, all its sufferings and all its merits.
First --- To expiate all the sins I have committed this day and during all my life. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Second --- To purify the good I have done poorly this day and during all my life. Glory Be, etc.
Third --- To supply for the good I ought to have done, and that I have neglected this day and all my life. Glory Be, etc.

Is anyone familiar with the Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great ,which is said to release 1,000 souls from purgatory each time it is said?
"Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen".

What an excellent idea, to say that prayer throughout the day! I'll have to try to remember that.

Our old priest said we should say this prayer throughout the day, it's the only prayer that doesn't ask for anything but says so much.

I don't know that one, GOBBLER. Thanks for sharing it with us!
I like the Hail Mary as well, and also the Fatima Prayer (Oh my Jesus ...).
