Libby if I had the strength to I would join you in starting protest myself. I sure do miss the marches and the protest my mom had us kids go to. Only to be that healthy again.

Jeannie.....et al.
I too, for health and chronic pain issues, am confined to home most of the time.
But, also like you.....I have signed petitions, for all liberal and human and animal causes .... I pass along emails to all interested parties.....I send money (as much as I can afford) to liberal candidates.

You are right...action is needed. That's why I'm so frustrated. Where are the sit-ins, the huge crowds....I llived in Wash. DC during the Civil Rights days....and during the assassinations of MLK,Jr. and Bobby Kennedy. I lived through the riots....the fires.....the massive sit ins on the Mall....the Poor People's Campaign etc. There was a righteous fire in people's bellies. Now, I sense only apathy -- from grassroot liberals. It's like they don't believe anything will affect them personally.

Well.....I can only pray that President Obama will win in November - and then he can enact his policies without the burden of running for another election.

If I had it in me (physically) to march.....I think I'd start one from NY to Washington - picking up people along the way. Stopping along the way for speeches by well known liberals....THAT would attract some press attention!!

Buckle your seatbelts, friends........we're in for a bumpy ride!!!

You can't just sit on you computer and rant about our rights being taken away and do nothing yourself. Growing up when our housing right were being taken away my mom and her friends went to Washington D.C. over six times to protest, we went to the Minnesota's capital and protested there and a few years in a row slept in boxes, under bridges every October. Our voice were heard by our action. There was news reporters at all of the protest and bridges that we slept under. If you want a protest you have to do it yourself and not wait for others to do it for you.

Personally I'm doing what I can the best way I can. I have health issues that confine me to my home but I have signed petitions for animals, the economy, the environment, children and women's rights. I have in returned received emails back from my local government. With each email I receive back in return I know my voice has been heard. Senator Al Franken has become one of my favorite politicians, due to his responses.

Thanks for post. Need to hear that passion because I, too, sometimes wonder if the average American is 'asleep' about what is at stake in November. Volunteering for the local campaign is thereputic for me. So is checking in on this Sparkteam. Glad you are here.

Each day, I get more and more depressed and irate as I listen to the poison and filth spewing from the GOP 'candidates' mouths. They are feeling more and more emboldened to advocate for revoking basic human rights. And there's no visible push-back!

This war on women is the most depressing of all! State by state - women's healthrights are being legislated away!! How could we have let the government force their way into women's genitals!! How did this all happen?? How did we lose a whole century, in terms of women's rights? How did the people who advocate 'small government' - turn into 'big brother' under our watch?

On my dog walk this AM, I met two, TWO, people who were relocating outside the US - permanently- because they couldn't stand to live in this atmosphere of hate and slander another moment. They are willing to give up their passports, if they have to!!

So----- I ask ----- Where is the outrage?? Why are moderates so quiet, while our very freedoms are being attacked? Why aren't there huge demonstrations; marches; boycotts; speeches at the Capitol, etc. Martin Luther King, Jr. must be turning over in his grave. He knew about peaceful protests! He wrote the book. He would take up the cause!

How do we light a fire under these complacent moderates? Do they really think the GOP can't win? WRONG!! The right-wing extremists will creep out of the woodwork to get their candidate elected..... They seem to be falling apart now.....but we'd be foolish to think they can't fire up their 'base' and organize.........and their base is huge!

We have to begin to fight back.....in a big way. There is so much at stake!

(Whew.....I needed that!!................)
