I don't know if this is funny or sad. At a Japanese hibachi restaurant the other night a little food was caught in my throat and I began to choke & cough. Instead of asking me if I was okay, the woman next to me moved away and made some strange mention of swine flu. I'm glad it subsided and didn't need help....she might have run away.

I already had the flu once this year, right after my flu shot. I hate being sick. But people are down right paranoid about this thing. I think it's good to be careful (wash hands, etc.) But I always take those precautions though. I don't know about closing all those schools before there is even an outbreak. Seems drastic.

Isn't that the media's job? Instilling panic and sensationalism into everything? Gasp..ya meannnn they're just supposed to just report facts? Since when? I could have sworn in the last few years that promoting paranoia was the main agenda..
It's true that The WHO and our own Center for disease control have to closely monitor emerging health issues and provide guidelines and that's as it should and must be for public safety. but most of this brouhaha is coming from the suppositions and embrodiering of the talking heads, not from those actually qualified folk who are in the know. I always think back to the summer of the tainted tomatoes..which turned out not to be, after the crops were plowed under. There is a kernal of truth in this flu issue..but people would be wise to turn to the CDC and WHO instead of the pundits for valid info. Even they will error on the side of being too careful rather than be wrong, however..and that's the safe way, so that's OK.
