Racism on any level against anyone is wrong. Period. It really starts with each individual realizing that when cut ALL blood runs red. What a wonderful speech! Makes me proud to be a union member! UAW Local 1999 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Well said! I try to find something to learn from everyone I meet. Sometimes it may only be I've learned how ugly hate is. But usually, I learn something better. Yesterday, I learned the difference between a montage and a collage from a lady who describes herself as half Irish, half native american, and half heathen! Her words! LOL!

I think people like me, who are very obese, go through something similar. Now please hear my heart on this. I'm NOT minimizing racism and that struggle. I cant imagine how traumatic that struggle has been over the centuries, for the individuals involved. I think the movie Roots should be required viewing for every child, before graduating high school. But, I notice there are two kinds of people. When someone approaches me for the first time, that is. There are people who see only the fat, and that's what they respond to. They are talking to "a fat person", and make that known. They will inevitably, right after greeting me, mention a friend who's trying to lose weight and tell me about their diet, or stare at my stomach and look away when they get caught. That kind of thing. And then there are people who seem not to notice it, and talk to me, the person behind it. Over the years, I've often wondered if that's what people go through who are biracial, black, etc. The primary difference is I've never felt hatred from another person over my looks though. That has to hurt .. I hope this makes sense and expresses what I was trying to say, without offending anyone. If I have, please please let me know..
I agree. It's not a direct comparison, because I am white, but I am half Jewish, and I absolutely hate when people try to pigeon hole me. Usually people try to tell me I belong to the "other". Jewish people tell me I'm Christian (which I'm not!) and Christians tell me I'm Jewish.

"Loose" is the way your clothes might fit after you "lose" a lot of weight.
I am biracial (black mom + white dad = me). It is a constant irritation to me that Obama is referred to as only African American. At what point did he become 51% black? The same point Halle Berry and Mariah Cary did? It's crap. He is BIRACIAL and represents BOTH ethnicities. To fail to recognize that is to admit bigotry.
Throughout this election, I've been receiving emails addressing the racism in this country, which frankly is Obama's only stumbling block. The problem with the emails I've been receiving, while I agree with them, is that they are just as divisive as the racism they address. In essence, they are insulting racist people for their attitudes, which is just, but not the way to get people to vote our way.
The President of the AFL-CIO gets it right. He is not at all condescending in his call for people to put aside their racist attitudes and vote for the good of their own lives and for the good of the country. THIS IS A VIDEO WORTH PASSING ALONG!
