Despite myself (and because there was nothing on the tube to watch) I checked out the women's final (2 am, Central on ESPN2), with the "mute" button on.
It was also to prevent me from listening to Chris Evert's nasal/Valley Girl comments on the tennis (she interjects "you know" every 8-10 words - it's tiresome).
Anyhoo, Azarenka dispatched Shriekapova in straight sets: 6-3, 6-0. The male commentator described it as a "beat down" and I can't argue with that. Azarenka had Shriekapova running like a frightened dalmatian (I'd say chiuaua (sp, darn it!), but Shriekapova is a pretty tall person).
Azarenka is now #1 in women's tennis, and she won $2.3 million (some of that was bonus money). Nice payday for two week's work, woman!
Since all my picks for this tournament have lost, I may be cheering on Nadal tomorrow (just so he'll lose!).
Hope everyone's having fun playing tennis! Even if we don't get $2.3 mill for two week's work, it's still great to play!
